Russell's is a solid breakfast spot, located right by Ramen Tatsunoya, on North Fair Oaks Avenue. I visited earlier today and it was quite busy--which is to be expected for a Sunday. I like the breakfast burritos from here, as well as the French toast. Earlier today, I had the ultimate breakfast burrito--which has eggs, sausage, cheese, avocado, as well as hash browns on the side. The prices have gone up a lot in recent years though. For example, the bacon and eggs here are almost $20. $20 for two eggs and bacon is obscene IMO. I can go to Costco and buy oversized packs of bacon and eggs for about the same price, enough for about 10 breakfasts. When I was in high school, the bacon and eggs meal was about $5. My friends and I would walk out of here and, after paying a 20% tip, our bills were less than $10 each (orange juice included). Something really needs to be done about inflation, not just here, but in society in general. read more

Decent diner spot for breakfast. You get the usual breakfast food, nothing over the top or fancy. Veggie omelette with goat cheese was pretty good. Prices are reasonable, and portions are large. The coffee was actually good for diner coffee which surprised me. We waited an hour and I wouldn't say it was worth it to be honest. We enjoyed our meals but the main reason it's so busy is the location. It's a got a pleasant vibe inside and service was very good. read more

Before I visited Russel's, I did my own research to find the best restaurant in town for breakfast. From what I read; Russell's restaurant has been a mainstay resident of Pasadena since 1930. Russell's Restaurant has an old traditional appeal with a welcoming charm. The restaurant inside appearance includes burgundy vinyl booths in the crystal-chandeliered dining room with an active dining counter. Russell's menu selections range from signature breakfasts, American classics, burgers, and some eatery traditional dishes such as grilled pork loins. This is Pasadena in a very busy area. There's a few parking structures which charge $1 for the first 2 hours. We got to the restaurant at around 12:30 and they got our phone number and name. We didn't get called until 1:40. While we waited we went to grab some coffee and walked around the area. They do close at 2, so I figured we would feel rushed but I feel like they expect the late customers. The service was great, multiple people brought our food. Everything was delicious. They have a salsa (forgot the name) it's next to the ketchup, contains habanero, soooooo good! Overall I would come again but earlier. read more

Visited this restaurant for the first time on 12/28/23 at about 10:15am. It has a decent rating on Yelp and there was a line when we arrived. It only took about 20 minutes to get in although they said it would be 45. So that was good. I noticed that they kept things moving pretty fast in this restaurant, so it's not the place to have a lazy slow moving morning. I had a special dietary need which they accommodated. I just don't get what the line and all the hoopla is about for this place. It was just a regular breakfast with slightly singed bacon. Maybe their specialty items, make them different. However, frankly I could have gotten the same bacon eggs and toast at Denny's for cheaper and avoided the line. read more

I remembered getting breakfasts during my lunch breaks 20 years ago here when I worked nearby at my first job out of college, so I've always had fond memories of this place. So glad that I now live walking distance from Russell's and can walk here for an early lunch on days I work from home. There is always people waiting for a seat outside but because I'm a single diner, I never have to wait too long to grab a seat at the bar. I'm trying to eat something different every time I visit so I can figure out what my favorite dish is - everything has been so good but the current star items are: biscuits and gravy; veggie egg white omelet; crispy bacon; well-done hash brown; and warm cinnamon roll. This is easily one of the best breakfasts I've had. I literally have dreams about the pancakes they are so good. The corned beef hash is a definite highlight but absolutely everything is fantastic. Like a lot of people mention, the lines can get long but if you go early, even on weekends it's pretty quick to get in. Would highly recommend! read more

I've been intrigued by this place because I always see a line out the door. I came by here early and got a seat at the counter after a short wait. I enjoyed the decor and at the counter you can see the hustle and bustle of the servers and cooks. I ordered a coffee and the ABC Omlete (with sausage instead of bacon). It was pretty good. I liked how crispy the hash brown was. Overall, it's a very nice place and I could see why people would come here. My bill with tip was $28 and to be honest... that's A LOT for 1 person at breakfast. read more

There will be a wait to get a table but it is certainly worth it. Place was hopping (sorry for Easter pun). French toast for me and Croque Madam for my friend. Delicious food. Ryan was our server and he was wonderful. Very attentive. Every table was full yet it didn't seem crowded or too noisy. Will go there again next time I go to Pasedena. read more

Russell's is such a good spot for breakfast in the old town area of Pasadena. We went on a weekend and the wait was about an hour. We walked around old town for that hour. They send you a text when the table is ready. Russell's makes such a fantastic omelette that literally feed two people. My dad and I split our omelette as it also comes with hash browns and your choice of bread. Highly Recommend: * Vegetable And Cheese Omelette (5/5) it comes with bell pepper, onions, tomato, mushroom, zucchini, broccoli, spinach and cheese. We always take out the broccoli and zucchini. Also add cream cheese to the omelette it taste fantastic! * Mushroom Spinach & Cheese Omelette (5/5) it has your choice of cheese, mushroom and spinach. The omelette sat Russell's are fantastic and I highly recommend them. I just wish the wait on the weekends was not as long! If you have other things you can do while you wait I highly recommend Russell's for breakfast when in Pasadena. read more

I'm sorry I don't have pictures of my delicious breakfast today. I ordered the vegetarian breakfast burrito with goat cheese instead of the cheddar cheese. My friend and I split the burrito. It was served with a side of hash browns which was golden brown and oh so good! The meal was perfect! So tasty and pleasing. We waited about 20 minutes which went by fast while siting outside. There's parking which can be validated right next door. The host and server were so kind and accommodating. This is a a must for breakfast in Pasadena. You will never be disappointed. Russell's is a great place for traditional American breakfast/brunch food! I've enjoyed their food pre-covid and takeout during covid. During covid, they offer minimal outdoor seating - small tables, distanced from their other tables, and no indoor seating. The workers wear a google+mask/face shield and no gloves. They seem to sanitize and wipe down tables and waiting areas periodically. The indoor restaurant area is used for waiting for takeout orders. The restaurant is very popular for both take out and seating - the line went back through to the parking lot!! The waiting time for my takeout order was an estimated 40 mins, but more like a little over 1 hour. Their kitchen works very fast, there's just a lot to make. I enjoy eating at russell's, but definitely do not do so that often. The food is heavy and has too much oil/butter, and this is especially apparent in their takeout. They give a lot of avocado in dishes that use them, but as seen in the photo, it's not always that fresh. The special spud dish is yummy and comes w some onion, bell pepper, bacon, and hash brown. They provide sour cream on the side, but thick layer of cheese on the top is too much and overpowers the dish. The ultimate breakfast burrito without sour cream is my favorite thing to get! The burrito is huge and easily fills 2 people or makes a great second meal. They also provide a huge portion of hash brown on the side. I ordered the croque madam for the first time from here and it was great! Definitely a lot of butter. The sandwich was a bit soggy by the time I got home bc it was takeout but the egg stayed a little runny which was nice! I think their prices have increased during covid but not too unreasonable given the measures they are taking and amount of food given. The three dishes listed above came to a total of ~$45. read more

But hey, if you're up for a great breakfast with a side of time-traveling nostalgia, then you're in for a treat. Their savory treats, like the chili omelette, makes you question: How is it so packed with flavor? Who on earth made the corned beef hash so delightful? Rumor has it their Mexican omelette holds the secrets of latin cuisine. For their other entrees. I've not personally dabbled, but the word on the street is, it's like angels dancing on your tastebuds. Craving something that'll sweet talk your cavities? Dive into their French toast. It's like a hug from a brioche loaf coated in the syrup of your choice. And the waffles? Cancel your flight to Belgium, enjoy them here without the jet lag. This restaurant will forever be my go-to for a nice whether it be breakfast, brunch, lunch, snack, dinner, whatever! My last visit here warmed my cold little black heart. We had finished another wonderful brunch here and were on our way out, getting our parking validated, and it was just about time to close up shop. Up walks an elderly man, hobbled over his walker, I don't even know where he came from, or how he got to the restaurant. He was old and alone. I was worried for him...but up he came, up to the door, and tried to come inside, but a staff member told him the restaurant was closing. A look of genuine disappointment came over his face and my heart sank. As we finished up paying and were leaving out the door, I noticed that the staff did in fact, let this old man in and enjoy breakfast. As we walked away from the building, I could see the old man, seated in a booth alone, laying his napkin on his lap, and getting ready to enjoy something great. I felt so happy and proud that my place let this man stay past closing time to have a nice meal. Russell's, you're so awesome. I love you. read more

Russell's is a solid breakfast spot located in Pasadena. It's so good, there's a 30-45 minute wait on a Friday morning. My favorite item is their Belgian waffle breakfast. Their waffles are so flavorful and the perfect texture of soft and crisp. The best comparison I can make is that their waffles have the flavor of Roscoe's. Their butter also tastes different in a good way. Very spreadable and a nice balance of creamy and slightly salty. The price point for their items is also reasonable. Definitely get their fresh orange juice, it really is fresh. Parking is in an adjacent structure, and they validate! No complaints and just a good solid breakfast. read more

Stumbled upon this restaurant randomly as I was walking around old town Pasadena. It was about an hour wait but it was totally worth it. I ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs. Russell's is a great little restaurant to go to for breakfast and lunch. My friend and I didn't realize it was a brunch place that closed at 2pm, and we showed up at around 12:30pm during our lunch break. When we got the menu, there was a huge variety of breakfast and lunch items that we were a bit overwhelmed, but in the end, we ordered the belgium waffle breakfast and the spinach and cheese ravioli to share. The spinach and cheese ravioli came with a side of garlic bread as well. The food and the service were amazing, especially since we came in close to closing. The waitress was patient with us, the food came out quickly and so did the tab. Since it was a weekday, there weren't that many people. The interior was also designed very nicely and similar to what i would assume a in a vintage British diner would look like. I would definitely come back again. read more

Service: Fair- did not ask me for coffee refill until I was done eating. Ambiance: typical diner. Lot of people chatting at tables. Place appears to be clean. Great atmosphere, great food. This place gets packed fast, there's a line outside sometimes. But it's definitely worth the wait. My Go too, is always the big one. I haven't anything else yet. The big one is pretty much the classic breakfast eggs, pancakes, your choice of sausage/ham. If you drive there, they will give you a free pass. You want have to worry about a ticket etc etc Definitely have been my go to breakfast spots. I love this place. I'm like a regular ‍ I hope you enjoy your time here read more

What a cute spot to grab breakfast! I'm always on the lookout for cute breakfast spots and I'm so glad I found this place! I stopped by this spot prior to attending a convention yesterday. A few tips: They do not take reservations, they run on a first come first serve basis. There is a parking structure a few steps away and they also validate. The service was great and the food was delicious. {Also, I'm such a stickler when it comes to the quality of bacon---and they definitely have some delicious bacon!}. I love the diner style atmosphere which felt very inviting. The next time I'm in Pasadena, I'm making it a priority to have breakfast here again. read more

If breakfast is the most important meal of the day then Russell's must be the most important restaurant of the day! It was my first time stopping by here and I must say that I am impressed. We stopped by Saturday morning and the waitlist time quoted for us was about one hour. We decided to walk around and do some shopping while waiting for buzzer go off. Since Russell's is conveniently located in old town Pasadena, it's quite easy to kill time while waiting for your important meal. After stopping by a local coffee shop copy, we finally got called to be seated. We got lucky enough to have a window seating, even though the majority of the tables do you offer window seating. The inside is swanky, charming, and smell free. I don't know how you feel about lingering fried smells, but being in a restaurant that leaves your clothes and hair smelling like food after you leave, is one of my pet peeves. I would describe Russell's as a classy yet home style feel. I ordered the ranch breakfast and substituted the regular pancakes for chocolate chips ones. My sister requested an off the menu 'loaded grilled cheese which she said was tasty. It is a lot of food for one! Everything tasted delicious. There's convenient 90 minute free parking in the parking lot between Colorado and Green Street as well. read more

We found this place on yelp and decided to give it a try. So parking was on the street. Then we walked in and order. The service here is amazing. There seemed to be a lot of regular customer they knew by name . From the time we ordered to the time food came out it was probably 10 minutes. They were very attentive and the service was fast. The food was pretty good. The price was reasonable compared to other places. Definitely would recommend to try this place. read more

I stumbled upon this little breakfast Diner and was so glad I gave it a try! Russell's opened in 1930 and appears to be a favorite spot for locals. I arrived right after they opened at 7am, so there wasn't a wait. But it filed up quickly! The staff worked together as a team, took my order, and refilled my coffee continuously. The coffee was ok, basic Diner coffee. The food was next level, though! I ordered the croque monsieur, and it was delicious! The gouda melted on top was mouth watering, and the sauce on the inside was a nice *but not overpowering) cream. It comes with either hashbrowns or fruit, and I asked for both! The large fruit bowl was fresh and sweet. The hashbrowns were crisp and perfectly cooked! The inside of the restaurant was rustic, with a modern twist. They were playing classical music (Swan Lake) and had replicas of famous paintings throughout! I saw Picaso, Rembrandt, and Van Gogh from where I was seated. One bonus for those of you who drive to eat here, they do offer to validate parking! This area is very walkable if you are staying close enough to stretch your legs! read more

Our server Kiana came up to the table with a pleasant smile and greeting to take our drink orders. I got a glass of cranberry juice along with some water. My son got the American Dream cocktail along with some water. We skipped on dessert. From 4-6pm, they have a happy hour menu with some of their cocktails and shareable plates. So I wonder since we got our order to go they purposely gave us cold food thinking by the time we get home it would of been cold anyway? Little did they know we planned to eat them right then and there...they we so gross the dam cheese was not even melted. No way the amount was worth 9 bucks, thus is not the same Russel's we remember so they must think most never been to a Russel's back in the day when they were every where. Russell's is one of those places in Pasadena that no one talks about yet everyone eats there. The staff has been almost entirely the same since me first visit and this makes being a regular even better. Ambiance: A The interior features plush deep red booths, a bar area with enough walk-up seating for 8. The wood is dark and there is art and classical music playing. Hi there, Inspired is how I felt about this place! It's been a few months since we went, so sorry I didn't post earlier. The food was great! It was very busy, so we sat at the bar which was fine, I like watching all the food coming out of the kitchen. I liked the decor as well, the Norton Simon Museum is close by I can could coming here for lunch after going to my favorite Museum or maybe on the way to the Huntington Library. My friends and I usually choose Russell's whenever we shop in Old Town. We've only been there for lunch and/or dinner, not breakfast. Our experiences have all been positive at this restaurant. Food is consistently good: Burgers are perfectly done to your liking; pork chops are tender and juicy; meatloaf dishes are homy and is the perfect comfort food. I've had the chance now to eat here for lunch and breakfast; I love this place! The Frisco burger is fantastic, especially with avocado. The prices are reasonable, and the staff is friendly. The only thing that stinks is the parking-but they do validate. I also recommend the French toast which is a really good size and is sooo nice in the morning with some coffee. I came here for the first time this weekend even though I've lived in Pasadena nearly my entire life. I had friends in town and we decided to go here for our last breakfast. the portions are larger than most and idk if we were just extremely hungry or what but everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal. The breakfast is very delicious and they have a variety of choices. The place gets really crowded and sometimes you have to wait awhile to be seated. I suggest you go really early if you don't want to wait especially on sundays. The food is good. Best breakfast foods ever, I got waffles with hashbrowns, bacon, an english muffin, sausage, and a peach bellini. BECAUSE THEY SERVE ALCOHOL TOO. Thick waffles, no better way to make a waffle. It was beautiful, and I ate every single bite of everything. You can pick up an order at certain times of the day when they are not busy; the food holds up extremely well, worth the wait. read more

I only wanted to spend around $5-$6, so I asked if I could get a small instead. I was surprised to see that the price was still the same. When I asked why, she then explained that oat milk was a $1 up charge and she didn't charge me on the large order for oatmilk. I don't mind paying the extra dollar, but I feel customers should be informed about an additional charge before being charged for it. Also, if getting a large was actually the better deal, I would have appreciated being told that. What made the interaction more frustrating was that the employee seemed distracted and dismissive while her coworker was talking to her. I ended up getting the small, even though I was confused about the pricing. The matcha itself was good, but unfortunately, because of the customer service experience, I don't think I'll be returning. I don't expect anything special--just clear communication about pricing and to be asked what size I'd like before being charged.

We waited a bit for food while the patio band played. Ambience was pretty nice. Our friend's sandwich came out first and about 5 minutes later our food came. However, the Arnold Palmer we ordered didn't arrive with the food so we asked if they'd come back to bring it, and we were told they'd be right back. We waited probably another 5 minutes but drink still didn't come so I went inside to ask about it and saw the drink sitting on the back counter. So I asked staff if I could pick up the drink and they handed it over. Our friend's sandwich (the Jester) looked pretty filling while wife and I ordered/shared the Crown Jewel with cheese and mayo on the side. The Crown Jewel was pretty meh overall. Wasn't as stacked as the Jester and the bread fell apart as I ate it, despite the mayo on the side. At the end of eating someone came by to grab our order numbers and ask how things went. I commented on the wait for the drink and was told they couldn't find us, which sounded strange because they found us when bringing the sandwich and we still had our order number. But she said we could get a free refill. Since I wanted to take advantage of the refill I went inside to inquire but the order counter had gotten extremely busy. So I asked one of the bus/wait staff outside if they could grab my refill. He directed me inside and he commented how busy they were but I said I didn't want to wait in the huge line simply for a refill, so he offered to meet me inside to get the refill. Eventually I did receive the refill and we left. Overall, for the price of the food I felt the service was very average bordering on subpar, and the food was meh for the price. I don't blame the staff as they all seemed to be working very hard, but perhaps they were understaffed which would be more of a management issue. We basically bussed a couple tables on our own and waited what eventually amounted to 20-25 minutes for an ice tea/lemonade. I pre-tipped when I bought the food, which I kind of regretted but also felt bad that the employees were understaffed so I likely would have left a tip anyways. I don't plan to go back anytime soon. Wish the food and service were better

On the positive side, the prices are reasonable, the dining room has a pleasant atmosphere, and the staff is generally attentive. Overall, it's a decent neighborhood breakfast restaurant - nothing particularly memorable, but nothing especially disappointing either. The Reyn Special - 3/5. A classic breakfast plate with eggs, bacon, hash browns, and banana bread. The eggs and bacon are fairly average, although the bacon tends to be overcooked and dry. The standout is the hash browns. They're cooked with a nicely browned, crispy crust while still remaining fairly moist inside. The real highlight, however, is the banana bread. It tastes homemade and is easily the best item on the plate. Crepes - 1/5. This dish comes as two separate plates: one with the ricotta-filled crepes and another with eggs, sausage, bacon, and your choice of fries or tater tots. Unfortunately, the crepes are the weakest part of the meal. The ricotta-filled crepes don't taste freshly made and instead resemble a pre-made food-service product that's simply reheated before serving. It's somewhat watery, heavily roasted, and finishes with a flat, slightly bitter aftertaste. It's neither particularly good nor particularly bad - just standard coffee that does the job. Overall, The Reyn succeeds as a comfortable, affordable breakfast spot with a pleasant atmosphere and friendly service.
