Couldn't believe the low rating that this Ruth's Chris had - now I understand why. Came in around 9 o'clock on a weekday- so not busy at all. Waiter forgot bread after asking 4 times, then super long wait for drinks and food. Just was totally ignored for long periods of time. No refills on drinks til the end, and dirty dishes never cleared. Food def not up to other Ruth's either. Waiter apologized at end of the meal and gave a free drink after asking for check - but then never brought check over. Had to go to front to even be able to pay. Worst Ruth's Chris I've ever been to. I recommend staying away if you're expecting same level as their other locations. read more

The steak had more fat and gristle than meat, the chicken had to be cut with a steak knife. The mushrooms were not good and neither were the Brussels sprouts (very hard and woody) The only good thing was the cheesecake and the service. read more

To start off, I'm going to tell you a bunch of things you already know. The steaks are good. The food is very expensive. People dress up nicely to go eat here. Now for some things you may not know. The sides are definitely not meant for one person. I ordered some mashed potatoes and had enough for my next two meals. The staff feels extremely fake. My parent's 68th wedding anniversary was this weekend. We decided at last minute to try to arrange celebration. I called Ruth Chris in South Bend and spoke to Bree Ballard. Bree was wonderful and went above and beyond making this happen. Bree followed up several times assuring she would make this work. Bree contacted wait staff to see if she could get extra staff to work out party. A big shout out to Kim Yanok, Cody Kaetzer and Orland Reyno who were all wonderful in taking care of us in celebrating this momentous occasion and for coming in on their day off. Kim was gracious in explaining menu to those who never had dined at Ruth Chris. The service was impeccable and the food was delicious. We couldn't have been more pleased with all the care we received. Would like to thank Bree, Kim, Cody and Orland for their outstanding service and dedication. We will definitely be back. read more

We have been coming here for years and this was the worst experience . Lamb was gamy and not cooked as ordered. Steak was fatty and not cooked as ordered . Waiter never asked how are food was , barely saw him. Plates came out and plates are usually sizzling, food barely warm and poor cuts of meat . Not enough help. Had to ask for refills for even water . Never asked if I wanted another glass of wine. Poor food and horrible service for the increased price . They seemed to have more help standing at the front of the restaurant doing nothing . Usually have a manager check in with all the tables , never saw anyone. Disappointed!!! I was very disappointed in our visit recently. We first sat for quite awhile before greeted by our server. I almost thought we didn't have one! The server was friendly enough, however he did not check on our table regularly at all. I sat most of the evening with empty wine glass and empty water glass (as well as everyone else at the table). When the server did visit us, it seemed he would just interrupt our conversation mid sentence to get in what he wanted to say. Fast forward to food. My friend's steak was ordered med well. He received it med rare. It happens, but when he sent it back, he didn't get it back for about 20 minutes! We were all done eating by the time he got his steak back. I ordered the creamed spinach. It tasted like how I would imagine hay would taste. We ordered the special chocolate cake with peanut butter. We have ordered this in past visits and usually it is excellent. Not this visit. This time, no peanut butter taste and the cake was just "ok". All in all, very disappointed in service and food. We won't be returning for quite a long time. Update: Ruth Chris's customer service informed us that there was a nationwide disruption with E-Cards on the very day that we used ours. They apologized and sent us a new gift card to use in the future. However, we don't have any desire to revisit the Mishawaka location since our interaction with the manager resulted in quite a poor experience. read more

Went for my mother's 70th birthday Celebration, and honestly couldn't have had a better time. Our servers (Paige and Reggie) were phenomenal- attentive, informed, efficient, friendly, and really just made the experience so lovely. Food and drinks were perfect. We had the tuna and crab cakes as appetizers, and both were exceptional. For entrees the steaks were of course perfectly cooked and my sea bass (one of the specials that evening) could not have been better. We never had to ask for refills on any of our drinks, and we were a party of eight. This place earns a big A-Ok. Ruth's Chris has always been known for its steaks and this place lived up to its heritage - the steaks were wonderful. The reason they fall down a bit on the rating is due to the sides and other stuff - there were some winners and some duds. We began with drinks (3 stars - the wines were very nice and priced reasonably, while the mild Bloody Mary was still way too peppery for our tastes). We shared a Tomato/Mozzarella - like a Caprese - appetizer (4 star nice and they split the dish among our diners). For dinner: One at our table had the Petite Filet (4 star very tender beef and done perfectly) along with the shrimp add-on (2 stars for the 2 shrimp that were way overdone, but maybe that is just problematic when it comes on a steak ... would not get this add-on next time). The two others in our party split the Seafood Tower for Four (3 stars - while the seafood was wonderful, their preparation still left a lot of work for the diner (Bavette's in Chicago is much better) and while this seems like a first-world problem, when you pay three digits they can step up the preparation a bit more). For sides the table split the creamed spinach (4 stars and very nicely seasoned) and the Potato Au Gratin (2 stars as the potatoes were not done - they were too stiff and not soft at all - and the dish came with just a blob of cheese on top. So they were not potatoes cooked in a lush milky cheese sauce but just underdone spuds with cheese dumped on them.) Get the spinach and pass on the potatoes. They have a beautiful dining room - very romantic, and they offer patio seating for those that enjoy alfresco dining. All in all 3 stars. Great steaks and nice wines, the rest can be hit and miss. read more

The steak and seafood choices are fresh and well cooked, the included sides are sometimes creative, sometimes classic, and the sweet potato casserole is a knockout punch. Very disappointing. Went to other Ruth's Chris Steakhouses in the past and have had good experiences. This location we had a lot of problems. First off we found an ant in the salt shaker and it was dismissed as a pepper corn. A pepper corn does not have legs. The lobster bisque was absolutely horrible and tasted like gravy.., do not recommend. read more

They don't seem to care at this restaurant any longer. We were sat at a booth that had an exposed electrical type of plate, wires hanging from TV and paint chipping. We asked for a different table as we were entertaining guest. Next booth was just as bad!! I had to use a bread plate to cover this up. We waited 15 minutes and no one came over for a cocktail order so my husband finally went to bar to order our 4 drinks. Once the server saw him he came over. This was around 8:00 and the bar area was not that busy. We ordered 2 bottles of wine and not once did the server pour a glass after initial pour. Service was terrible! read more

I was really looking forward to enjoy a wonder meal for my Birthday this past weekend however my experience fell really short. I felt like we were being rushed though our meal, my filet that I ordered medium was cooked to medium well, there was no personalization or acknowledgment that it was my birthday which my husband told the restaurant when he made reservations. We were sat in a booth in the bar and we were not given the option to change the tv screen in our booth to a basketball game. I even had my phone out to watch and the waitress saw it, but still never gave the option. Overal, it will be a long time if ever before I go back. read more

First off I want to say the waiter we had was 5 star. He could not have been more nice. However I was not happy with an incident. My friend's husband went to get us a table for 6 but was told right away that it was an hour and a half wait. 2 min. Later my other friend fiancée who is Caucasian went to get us a table and there was no problem and no " 1 1/2 hour" wait. Now I am not sure what happened but I find that weird and wonder if there is discrimination or racial profiling going on. That did not make things start off right. We opted not to say it start anything in order not to dampen and sour our night. However this dropped my expectation of the restaurant to 3 stars. The reason for 2 stars is on top of it being a fancy restaurant I really expected so much better in food presentation. Seriously if I am paying $$ for my food the quality is not the only important thing! The food needs to look elegant and not sloppy! Appetizer of crab and tomato soup was basically tomato soup with lump crab in the middle. Caesar's salad was just lazy in Prep work. The salmon was very moist melt in your mouth. But lack of care in presentation. The filet mignon with shrimp was just 2 on top. Slightly overspiced but the filet was cooked right. For the amount you spend at Ruth Chris I rather spend at Cafe Navarre or Lasalle Grill, or Artisan! It looked like no thought was put into the dishes. To be a "classy" restaurant there really needs to have that presented in the food as well. Taste wise was good but I would rather go to another upscale restaurant that is not racist and that takes pride in presenting their food. On top of good service and tasting good. I was deeply disappointed. Manager misunderstood my compliment about caring for customers' welfare that all staff wore masks (we had cancelled a reservation elsewhere when we found out their staff were all unmasked); he responded with, "Well, it's all voluntary -- next week none of us will be wearing these." Nice waiter, but got the order wrong, went back to put the very expensive blue cheese crust on top of the steak -- so it came back with a tiny dab of blue chees and way overcooked. Veggies underdone and bitter. Left having paid $80 with tip, extremely loud environment on their "patio" (an enclosed high-ceilinged area), tables all close together; it felt like everyone there was shouting to be heard. We left as quickly as we could. Covid aplenty to be shared in an unpleasant, loud -- and expensive -- environment. We will not be going back. read more

Another less than mediocre visit. Sat down to a mess on the bartop. Had to ask that it be cleaned. $52 Steak overcooked again ordered medium came out medium well, but lobster mac was great. Offered bread that never came, had to cover the wine glass and bottle myself to keep the gnats out of it...Service was garbage again. Bartender sucked....again... never refilled my glass and left me once the high power attorneys and cackling hens showed up...nice relaxing dinner was overrun by the group. First time at a Ruth Chris. Have been to so many top Steakhouses, and this becomes a top runner. Absolutely perfect table service. Perfect timing on when they brought the next course out. China was our waitperson and we must comment that she really made our meal special. She started by explaining the history, because we were first timers. She knew the menu well. She recommended several dishes and she was spot on. Interior is romantic. Lighting makes you feel like you are in a special occasion place, which you are. Prime beef. Had the Porterhouse for two, sweet potato casserole, wedge salad, shrimp cocktail, and delicious iced tea. Every item was beyond good. Perfect temperature for the steak. If you love blue cheese on a wedge, theirs is honestly life changing. I know this is part of a chain, but each is independently owned. Management is excellent here. As you can tell by my many reviews of steakhouses, I am a true lover of prime steaks and of course, fine dining. I had high hopes for the Ruth's Chris in my new town. It is located in a cute, brand new shopping center, just minutes from my house. We arrived at 6:30pm and headed into the bar area. The Notre Dame game was just wrapping up and the bar was pretty busy. We found a seat at the bar and I inquired about their Prime Hour and the bartender said they don't do that. Right off the bat I was sort of put off... her attitude wasn't great, she gave me a look when I asked about happy hour and then walked away without taking my order. My hubby was at the front seeing if we could get one of their cute booths in the bar area... success... the hostess led us past beautiful booths w/ TV's, away from the bar crowd still watching the game and stuck us in a booth right behind the crowd (and there were tons of booths, empty, completely away from them). No consideration. Our server... Will... was friendly and knowledgeable about wine. He was attentive, but not pushy or too nearby, which I like! We ordered the Carpaccio... and it was decent, though Fleming's is much better (but hey I'll take what I can get since the closest Fleming's is 90 miles away in Chicago). We ordered our "usual" Ribeyes and unfortunately mine was over cooked. Paul didn't mind, so he switched me. I've never had my steak prepared wrong at a Ruth's Chris (or other fine steakhouse) so this was sort of a bummer. The Prime cut was also not as fabulous as previous ones I'd had. I'm not sure if the experience clouded my food... but so far, it wasn't great FOOD and that was surprising. For wine we had the Pine Ridge Cabernet and a Sin Zinfandel (the zin wasn't good). The Pine Ridge Cab is to die for and we both had that for our second glass. For dessert, we opted for just a glass of Port each. With our bill @ $200 including tip... I was not impressed. I will, of course, more than likely visit again when I have a hankering for some Prime meat... but all in all this Ruth's Chris left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

Ruth's Chris catered our wedding at the South Bend Country Club - 5 star service, food, atmosphere & value! Event coordinator, Mary Beth, took exceptional care of us from the multiple complimentary taste testings as we selected a menu to match our tastes & budget, to working effectively with other vendors and accommodating for day-of cancellations, to storing our cake in her personal freezer for 2 weeks after the wedding to ensure nobody at the restaurant would eat it - LOL! We'll admit she could be a little hard to get a hold of until the week of the wedding, but once your event is next, she's 110% there for you! Chef Ivan was absolutely amazing - we loved chatting with him in the initial meeting as we selected menu options for our tastings, and my husband was impressed that he could make even broccoli taste good! The New York Strip and Stuffed Chicken were our selected entrees accompanied by a caesar salad, mashed potatoes, a veggie medley and their to-die-for sweet potatoes! I was perhaps most excited to have their butler passed hors d'oeuvres: hearty southwest egg rolls, crunchy pretzels with beer cheese, hot voodoo shrimp, and the classic tasty bruschetta.
