Didn't expect to find a real-deal Asian inside a Wisconsin Casino, but here it is! I was a bit rushed, 'cos our band was headlining the theatre, but still had time to fress. Thai/Vietnamese Spring Rolls with great sauce, the equal of anything I've had at outside Asian Joints. a Big bowl of Beef Meatball and Tripe Pho. WOW! Really good. all this washed down with lashings of excellent Mai Tai. As I was on an Artist's chit, I don't know/remember what this feed would have cost a civilian, but I would have willing to pay pretty much what they asked for-as the cuisine and service was top notch. Since we were at the casino and it was later in the evening, RuYi was a good option. They're open until midnight on Friday and Saturday. We ordered to-go which was a 40 minute wait for the food. The roast duck noodle soup was ok. The salt and pepper shrimp came with a side of white rice and a nice portion of shrimp. The udon noodles and chow fun both with beef weren't bad. All in all, it's not the best Chinese food I've had but if you happen to be at the casino and have a taste for Chinese, it'll do the job. Unfortunately, we would never eat here again. While the service and ambience was excellent, the food just did not match our expectations. I ordered the red curry and it was like pudding with a few pieces of processed chicken and undercooked veggies. It was such a disappointment. I have never had a curry that was so thick in its consistency. My husband said the bulgogi was okay but nothing special, although he did really like the hamachi roll. Basically the edamame was the best thing we ordered which is super sad since you'd think the $17 curry dish would be the best. read more

We had a free stay at the hotel so we decided to make a night of it, starting with dinner at Ruyi. All things considered, I thought it was a really good meal. We walked over from the hotel and we were seated immediately. Our server wasn't super friendly, which is fine. She was speedy and polite otherwise, so no complaints there. I started my meal with hot and sour soup and it tasted, yes, hot and sour. Nothing to write home about, but I appreciated that it was exactly what I expected it to be with just a hint of something unexpected: tomato. Next up, Japanese eggplant and Thai spicy wings. The eggplant is very lightly crusted with batter and tossed in a wok with a sweet and tangy soy sauce. I ate it all - yum. The wings were good - crispy skin on the outside and tender meat on the in. I split these with my husband, who also had really nice things to say about his bulgogi and fresh spring rolls. All in all, it was a decent meal. I'd go back if I was ever in the casino for an extended period and craving Asian food! On that note, I'm actually really surprised by all the low/negative reviews. Peeps, this is a pan-Asian restaurant inside of a casino, where steps away you can drink unlimited soda for free 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Well, well, something of a mixed bag here. The decor and ambiance are nice; the staff is pleasant and the service good. The food, while good, confused me a tad. I had an excellent wonton soup and decided on the bulgogi over the seafood udon on the recommendation of the server. I don't know where they got the idea that what I was served was bulgogi, but I can certainly attest that it bore only a passing resemblance to the substance and taste of the bulgogi I have been served countless times in Seoul or even in US Korean restaurants. It was much, much closer to Mongolian Beef, although not nearly as tasty as that from, say, P. F. Chang's. I'd give this place another try, but caveat emptor. read more

RuYi is the place I compare all other Chinese places too.. And in reality there is no competition. Quality of product with taste and presentation, coupled with a real effort for good service really creates a perfect trifecta. As a precursor, I guess you can call me the true epitome of a American-Chinese food eater. I am a sweet and sour chicken, general tso chicken kind of guy and I'm not ashamed to say it. Maybe the more 'authentic' appreciators could speak to this place better, but for my Chinese appreciating taste buds, RuYi knocks it out of the park. Service is very attentive and kind. Staff is always coming around to fill your water/drink before you finish, which is very refreshing (pun intended). You can tell they really try to focus on serving the customer, which is much appreciated. Quality of food here is too good for words. Taste is always there and each bite is rewarding. You won't know what you've been missing out on until you have this place and you will feel like the blindfold has been lifted. I have yet to try anything with the new sushi experiment they have going on, so I can't really speak to that, but I have trust in RuYi's products. Suggestions: offer lunch combos, have staff continually at the front counter, and keep to-go orders in an appropriate, controlled-temperature location until customers arrive. These are all trivial matters that would benefit this restaurant and its customers. Today, I'm working at an event inside the casino. I was craving Chinese food, and immediately thought of RuYi. But i was disappointed to learn that during lunch, RuYi only offers full dinner portions of everything. So I reluctantly put in my order for a full sized fried rice, skipped on any sides because no way I need 8 Rangoon or 4 spring rolls for myself, got pulled back into work for exactly 10 minutes (the same amount of time RuYi staff said it would take to prepare), and when I came back, there was no staff at the front counter. After waiting by the front counter for a couple minutes, I went to the bar, and the bartender said he was still putting together my order. Well turns out he was actually preparing someone else's order while my order was over on the still unstaffed front counter, getting cold. In the end, bland lukewarm fried rice 'for two' cost $14 and most of it landed in the trash. read more

RuYi has quickly become our go to place for some of the tastiest appetizers, entree's & sushi. My girlfriend, aka my manager, loves it and that gives me an excuse to go to the casino as well so props for that powers that be. All jokes aside, your Kung Pao Chicken is amazing. Pot stickers and crab Rangoon are excellent. Front and back of house has continued to do a bang up job every time we are there. Very expensive and average is the main point of this. Got 2 cocktails that were solid. But all the food was below average at best. Pics are attached and while they look pretty the taste was very plain. For dropping $75 for two meals and two drinks i expect GREAT food and this was the definition of average. read more

Tried the Thai duck and noodle salad. It was pretty great. A small bed of iceberg lettuce was topped with vermicelli rice noodles, a mound of finely chopped/shredded roast duck mix with red onions, cilantro, cukes and light hoisin dressing, all topped with crispy fried duck skin. The flavors were spot on. If you're familiar with Vietnamese bun, it's very similar to this and you'll love it. The copious amounts of herbs make it. Some things could have been better though: a lettuce other than iceberg, colder noodles (they were obviously freshly cooked and not allowed to cool thoroughly), and larger pieces of duck. The crispy duck skin that wasn't listed on the menu made up for any shortcomings though! Will definitely be craving this salad for the rest of the summer. read more

I stopped in here for lunch before catching the train back home. I had a cup of Hot and Sour Soup and The Fresh Spring Rolls. The Soup was the perfect balance of hot and sour. The Spring Rolls, with Shrimp, Romaine Lettuce, Carrot, Rice Noodles, Mint, Basil and Cilantro were light and fresh and made for a great lunch. read more

Haven't visited in over a year and thought time to return after a great prior experience. Arrived at 7pm on a Friday night without reservations and was advised it was a 30 minute wait even though several tables were open. Decided to eat at the bar instead. Our server, Tommy, was polite and quick. Our drinks were delivered as ordered and the monthly special, Thai-Tini, was very good. We came for sushi but didn't realize that RuYi has transformed into more of an Asian/Chinese/wok restaurant. We ordered two rolls and both were terrible. The Lobster roll special was tempura and had little flavor. The Lovers roll was room temperature once it arrived and tasted very fishy. Could not recommend and one in our party refused to eat. Very disappointing. Finding ourselves hungry after not getting passable sushi, we ordered the orange beef and it was quite good, however. This I could recommend. RuYi is located inside Potawatami Hotel & Casino, but momentarily you are able to escape the hustle and bustle of the casino for a great dining experience. The Sushi Bar is a new addition to the restaurant (opened in very early 2016) and all of the meat is supposed to be 36 hours from sea to sushi. We tried 3 rolls and each one was great! It was a fun experience to sit up at the sushi bar and watch the chefs cook! Pop in for a couple rolls and hands of black jack. They serve food until close! read more

Hells Kitchen lives except here it's Gordon Ramsey on karate! The bartender tonight is Carlos. Carlos is the last line of defense between a mob of casino losing, hungry panting, sport hyped, farmer junkies ready to grab food like a Zombie apocalyptic feeding frenzy and the shift manager, who is quarterbacking the play of the game making tonight's meal sensational, perfectly delivered, presentation the likes of a Ming Dynasty dinner party. This is NOT your average casino bistro, this is an up close experience you don't see this close up and the ballet of waiters and dishes twisting and turning without breaking a dish is leagues above what's being ran on the 10 yard line of the proudly displayed football games. This place seems to be busier with carry out than dine in. We sassy at the bar & it appeared that more 50% of orders that came up had to be packaged to go. This is notable because it's very disruptive to overall service. We ordered two drinks. Watched one get made & it sat on the rail for almost 10 minutes before someone came back to complete the order. The first drink was refused because it was made incorrectly. The food was okay. Nothing to get excited about or go out of the way for. Oddly, the fried egg rolls had a cinnamon/cardamom flavor which didn't go well with the pork stuffing. To me that's indicative of poor fryer maintenance. You don't fry fish in the same oil you fry deserts in. Ah well. Would I recommend? If you don't really care, yeah. I won't return, though. read more

Ruyi has an EXCELLENT SUSHI BAR!!! If you get a chance to order it--- try the Tempura Walleye! Te service most of the time is slow, but it depends on the time and the staff I guess. The daily specials can't be beat, you get soup entree and a almond cookie. Worth it!!! I now see reviews saying they don't like the sushi. The takeaway was that they ran out of soy sauce. One of the best Asian fusion restaurants in Milwaukee! I particularly like the $10 lunch special with the Seafood Chow Fun. Comparable to what I've had in Hong Kong. The Udon & Pad Thai are some of my other favorites. I had the Moo Shu Pork last week, absolutely perfect Best I've had in Wisconsin. The pancakes / rice wraps were soft & tender. Seemed like fresh made. Great Asian beer selection too, I usually get a Sapporo or Tsingtao. Surprising to find such a gem of a restaurant within a Wisconsin casino. The décor has a modern twist & great layout. I tend to sit at the bar while dining, allows you to see into the Bistro style kitchen. I eat here a couple times a week. Solid service and you will get your food quickly. Always found the food consistent and very good. Personal favorites include Korean Spicy Beef and Salt and Pepper Chicken. Ask for the sweet chili sauce with the Salt and Pepper. They just added a sushi bar which I've heard is good. read more

Wanted to try it this restaurant because of the sushi they recently added to the menu. Don't waste your money or a special trip just for the sushi. Pretty overpriced for the lack of quality and flavor in the sushi. Like other reviews stated, you have to decide upfront if you would like sushi or the regular menu because you can't have both. Which was fine because we both knew we wanted sushi. However I could see why this would be a problem for other guests or large parties. Service subpar, sushi took 45+ minutes to come out after ordering. Ordered 3 roles. Included two special rolls (ruyi & Fire keepers) and 1 basic spicy tuna roles. Also ordered a spicy Bloody Mary which was Ok not my favorite the but I did like the toppings included (shrimp, beef stick etc) When the sushi arrived the avocado had a lot of brown on it. Don't quite understand why they wouldn't use fresh avocado. The rolls were small especially for the special rolls that were almost $20 a roll. Lastly, our food was served by someone other than our waitress and our waitress didn't come back for the long time. Had to hunt her down to get soy sauce since the bottle was completely empty at the table. If you want good sushi don't waste your time here. read more

For a while this was one of my go to spots for Chinese food. However, I began to notice a decline in their food quality on one of my last visits. My visit today was very disappointing. A lot of the cooking staff seems to have changed and perhaps took the recipes with them. I ordered the chicken stir fry lunch special. It came with egg drop soup, which was thicker than I'm used to. The stir fry was quite a small serving and came out warm and not hot. This was a surprise because their food is usually hot, fresh, and cooked to order. The flavor on the stir fry was amiss too. I couldn't exactly put my finger on what the flavor issue was, but I just didn't like it. The highlight of the meal was the almond cookie. read more

We ordered the appetizer sampler. Was not bad, pretty average. I tried the Bulgogi, marinated boneless beef short ribs. These were chewy little chunks of meat, tasted mostly like soy sauce. Wifey tried the Pad Thai, one of her favorite dishes. When they put hers on the table, we both lost our appetites. The dish looked horrible and smelled worse. We paid and left. Have you ever poured a gallon of salt directly on your tongue just for the fun of it? If you're curious, don't bother trying it at home -- just have the Miso soup at RuYi. Some things are hard to screw up -- toast, cheese and crackers, and oh - edamame. Boil those suckers, add some salt and sugar, and presto -- you have a pretty tasty, not to mention cholesterol-lowering appetizer. At RuYi though, they're served not with salt and sugar gently sprinkled throughout the bowl, but rather underneath a pile of salt, perhaps in an attempt to symbolize the majestic snow-capped Mount Fuji. And lastly, there was the crab-less crab rangoon. It tasted better if you tore it in half, squeezed out the filling, and ate the bare wonton shell. And that's just the appetizers. Unfortunately I can't comment on the entrees, because the shrimp curry we ordered ended up coming with chicken instead of shrimp, rendering the meal, and our hard-of-hearing server, useless to our delicate pescetarian souls. Lastly, I'll finish this review with a transcript of the phone conversation earlier in the afternoon to make the reservation: RuYi: Hello, RuYi Me: Hi, I'd like to make a reservation for tonight please. Honestly, I really like the place. I've been here a couple times in the past, and they do a good job with Asian Food. Now, the menu is pretty small, so explains why they need help by staying within the Hotel/Casino. My server was nice, and attractive. Don't remember her name, but she did a good job taking care of my sister, brother-in-law and I. I had the famous Orange Chicken....WOW, very Delicious. It had a good Kick, but it is manageable. If you are a weakling for spicy food. Don't try this. To me it had a kick, but still needed more spiciness. I had a Strawberry Bulba Tea. Clean? yes, it's a small place so it's easy to keep clean. I actually see RuYi going big in the future, as in leaving the Casino/Hotel scene and making it big in the City. (Not in Milwaukee) sorry to the people of Milwaukee, but your city is pretty dead...RuYi is better off in Chicago, or in the suburbs of Chicago. Stopped in to RuYi for a late night dinner after a long day of gambling. The restaurant is located right next to the entrance of the casino floor. I am glad we were seated in the far corner of the restaurant where it was a quiet, because it is hard to escape the din of the slot machines.The interior is nice, dimly lit (in a good way), with calming colors. The only complaint is that there aren't any restrooms actually located in the restaurant, you have to walk through the casino floor to use the facilities. Now to the food! My fiancee and I opted out of doing actually entrees and went for an assortment of appetizers instead. We ordered the RuYi appetizer sampler plate which came with crab rangoons, fried spring rolls, fresh spring rolls, pork potstickers and a massive pile of edamame. We also ordered the tempura fried green beans and the steamed pork buns. The apps came with an assortment of sauces, ginger soy for the green beens and potstickers, sweet chili for the fried spring rolls, sweet and sour for the rangoons and a plum sauce for the fresh spring rolls. The crab rangoons really weren't that special to me, they were sweeter than what I like for a rangoon. The fried spring rolls were delicious, fried well and not greasy. The big shocker for me was the fresh spring rolls. I normally am not a fan of fresh spring rolls because they often taste fishy to me, but for some reason these ones were awesome! No fishy taste at all. Only complaint is that the ration to noodles and everything else in the these little bundle of joys was a little off. The potstickers were just O.K. to me. The wrapper was yummy, nice carmelization too. The filling tasted fine but it was just a hunk of pork in the middle. I tend to prefer potstickers where the filling is looser with the veggies mixed into the ground meat, just a personal preference. Edamame,seriously, I don't think anyone can screw that up. The tempura green beans were good. You receive a massive pile for $9. They were fried well and the sauce is a must. Lastly,my favorite, the steamed bbq pork buns. Man, do I love these things. I can't find them at restaurants around my house so whenever I can I eat them! Just a tip if you order them, drizzle the seasoned soy on to them, perfect! This review is for the Sushi Restaurant. I was really impressed with the service and how nicely the place is decorated. We ordered miso soup, 5 rolls and a passion cake. It's was more expensive than other sushi restaurants that we have gone too, but it was really fresh and less fillers. I could actually see the meats inside the rolls. Would I make this place my regular sushi place, probably not. I still preferred Rice and Roll on Farwell on the Eastside near Comet Cafe. It's family owned (I like supporting family owned business) and they have special pricing on Monday and Tuesday at 4:30-5:30pm. Overall the bill came to $108 +20% tip. read more

In exploring the Potawatomi Casino, my family and I entered Ru Yi expecting a mediocre experience after reading the yelp reviews, BUT it was the best part of our trip. This restaurant is fairly priced and really quite excellent food! We ordered three dishes, trying a little of each category we were interested in: combination fired rice, pad thai noodles, and a shrimp/vegetable dish Everything had excellent flavor and we ended up doubling our order for more, it was so good! The service was on the slow side, but it was busy, our big appreciation was for the chef's accommodations to our allergies. He eliminated and replaced certain sauces and ingredients, still giving us an excellent meal. A lot of places won't do that. For Asian fusion this is actually my new favorite! This was a pleasant solace from the manic casino floor. We sat in the corner, right next to the evil gong that mocked me our entire stay, urging me to strike it, risking expulsion. We opted for apps. Small plate stylee! The high points were the pork bao, which I've yet to have a bad version of, and the fresh spring rolls. Everything else was pretty good, and the trio or so of sauces made average items that much better. Edamame spilled over the top, iced the experience! Ru Yi is an interesting Casino restaurant. The interior is very cool looking but upon sitting down you can somewhat feel it was designed for people to eat quickly and get back out and gamble (lose) their money. The snake like seating bench is comfortable, until someone at the next table sits a little to closely! The food is a variety of Asian fare. I highly recommend the fried pot stickers. They are perfectly done and very very good. I also enjoyed the lettuce wraps, very fresh and yummy. I ordered the bulgogi and it was a little less than stellar and actually did not tasted like authentic Korean bbq. The soups are what you would expect but are hot and fresh. The bubble teas are excellent and if you hate smoke like I do, it is perfect to drink after being in a smoke filled room! It just soothes your throat! The service is fast, friendly and helpful.
