This is a good place to bring your laptop to work on school or writing projects. Outlets are limited to one side of the place, but if you grab a free one, you're set to work. So far there has only been one time that I had to sit on the side of the place with no outlets, but when a outlet became available, I switched seats. The noise level is usually quiet with light conversations going on. With my earphones and music, I hardly notice it. read more

This is one of my favorite coffee shops around and I wish there were more of them. I come to this specific location at least 3 times a week, always in the morning. I've had everything from regular coffee to Americano's to latte's and ice blended drinks. I've yet to find a hot or cold beverage here that I do not like. In addition, their breakfast sandwiches (especially the San Diegan,) are really good. The employees are very personable and I enjoy seeing the same employees here. Therefore, the turnaround of workers coming in and out here is seemingly nonexistent. They must enjoy working here, which makes for a great atmosphere. SO, here comes my only complaint, hence the four stars and not five :/ They need more employees working. In the morning when I frequent, there are usually two employees. In many cases, one is taking the drink orders (register) and making drinks, and the other is in the back making breakfast sandwiches, bagels etc. It can often take me 15 minutes or so to wait in line, order my drink, and then wait for it to be made. For many of the individuals coming in in the early morning like myself, getting in and out as quickly and efficiently as possible is important. I think if there were two employees solely taking drink orders and preparing them, service would be much quicker. On days like Friday this is especially a problem. I hate to take away a star but now with CSUSM in session, and Summer over, business is at a high and I think staffing should be commensurate. read more

Only been here a few times but never been unhappy with any part of it.. the staff is always really friendly and helpful, and the drinks are great! Last time I just got a plain coffee and everything bagel and today I got an everything bagel and an iced vanilla latte that were honestly both better than Starbucks! And my favorite thing is they put the cream cheese on your bagel for you and wrap it up like a sandwich, perfect for eating on the way to class or work! read more

I have had nothing but amazing service from this establishment! Last semester was my first semester at CSUSM and I can not count the times I visited Ryan Bros after my classes were done. Shout out to my favorite barista, Nareg! Nareg made my friend Kyle and I feel at home from the first moment we walked in! He not only remembered our names when we returned to the coffee shop for the second time (and every time after that) but he always asked us how our classes were going. I went in not knowing what I wanted and I was welcomed by really friendly baristas which helped me choose my new favorite drink. Their vanilla cold brew! And it's on tap! They offered me samples, they have a bunch of flavors like dirty chai, mochas, and even some teas too. They have a great outdoor seating area which is perfect for enjoying some delicious coffee with friends. And they have food too! They have great breakfast and lunch sandwiches and pastries too. I got the TBA lunch sandwich which was great. And a chocolate chip cookie that was still warm! They bake their cookies there! read more

Kitchen closes at 2 so they can't even toast bagels, but they have some breads out. The staff here are never busy, not sure why its a difficult to toast a bagel or other simple food prep. read more

Average coffee. Keep asking for a dark roast and I keep getting told that Cowboy Blend is the darkest they do... I've been to places that would consider that a medium roast, so don't' expect much if you like dark roast coffee. It's all drip as well, no Clover, no french press, just drip or paper filter coffee. Baristas are friendly and generally pull good espresso shots. Atmosphere sucks, music to loud, customers can take over the place, tiny, not great seating, not good to study or read (surprising as it is literally a mile from San Marcos). Better than that StarSchmucks up the road, but if you want something like a real coffee house, go elsewhere. read more

I normally get my coffee from Black Rock in Oceanside, but since I was in San Marcos and after hearing good reviews from my friends, I stopped in @ Ryan Bros. I was greeted by some very nice ladies and after telling them I didn't want coffee but something cool to drink. They suggested an iced Chai Tea Latte w/almond milk. Needless to say, I loved it. I try to go there on my days off. I like the atmosphere there-they treat you how every place SHOULD treat their customers: with respect & gratitude. read more

Live this place! The service is always awesome, everyone is super friendly and very happy every time I come here. The drinks are probably some of the best in north county. Best Coffee Shop in San Marcos. Hands down.

Read some good reviews and decided to give it a try. I ordered a latte and my partner in crime got a mango smoothie. The smoothie was good. it may actually have had real mango in it. but the latte.... well. I observed the barista making it and she poured milk first into the cup, then espresso, then topped it off with milk. seeing as there was no one in line and our drinks were the only ones that needed to be made, I'm not sure if she was in a hurry or just confused on what a latte is. Maybe if I argued about ordering a half macchiato latte it would've been appropriate to pour milk first, but no I just ordered a regular no flavor no nonsense latte. Something that a cafe should have down as a staple. Other than that, the milk was oversteamed and carelessly poured (I guess I shouldnt have expected any different from a place that lids drinks before serving them) They get an extra star for being friendly. But I think they should change the name to ryan bros smoothies, specialty diabetes drinks, and baked goods. because the coffee part was just sad. A latte is so basic but I struggle to find a decent one. read more

This is my favorite place to get coffee, not only for the great coffee (that puts Starbucks and wherever else is attempting to make coffee to shame) but for the amazing customer service. The employees here really seem to enjoy it and are great at remembering their customers. Also, the fact that Ryan Brothers offers almond milk is a HUGE plus in my book. Ryan Bros Coffee is not only for coffee drinkers! This location in San Marcos, just off the 78, North on Twin Oaks, BREWS your tea for you! I am so USED to getting hot water and 1-2 "bags" that I automatically say " I would like to put the bags in myself...". Imagine my surprise when a very polite (owner? Manager?) said he was sorry but they only had leaves. BEST EARL GREY I have had in a long time! I am so happy, the people are nice, the patio area is lovely and a nice place to linger. If I had to critique I would say wash the patio pillows more often and the patio tables. I will go again! You can get lots of other drinks there and also a bite if you are hungry! Coffee was great (and beautiful) but the best part was the help! All 3 girls were really helpful but Barbara went over and above! She was so friendly and let us try the delicious chocolate syrups which they make right there- and then made an amazing mochachino according to what we said we liked, because we were much too indecisive with all the awesome choices! I like this place because it's right off the freeway and has a nice ambiance. It also has never been dead or too busy. I'm always able to find a table, the wifi has always worked and the staff is super friendly and cool. A client introduced me to this cafe a couple of years ago and I've been coming ever since. The only downside is that it can be little tough getting back onto Twin Oaks in the afternoon with traffic and you can't make a left turn, which is always the direction I need to go. read more

So my husband went in to grab coffee for the two of us while I stayed home with the baby. He walks in and gets zero acknowledgement then tries engaging the cashier, nothing. He finally gets out drinks and looks the cashier dead in the eye and sad "Thanks" and he just got a rude smug look. Good coffee is good but pricey. I always get the vanilla iced coffee and order it to be half coffee half vanilla iced coffee because the vanilla iced coffee itself is way to sweet. So they add more coffee for me. I love the environment . Very sweet staff! It's close to my school and to my work so it's my go to if I'm in a rush or if I need somewhere to study. It's a great area for groups to meet as well. My only down part is that it is more expensive than Starbucks.. so if I had to choose , I'd probably go to Starbucks. But non the less this is a great place with great coffee! read more

The at times generic and corporate feel of other coffee houses is something completely absent from Ryan Brothers. The staff with Barbara as the manager are always a true pleasure to deal with. The coffee choices are plentiful and are very rich and deep in flavors. I recommend the mexican mocha and chai tea latte. The chai isn't out of a box but made fresh each time, it is by far the best I have ever had. read more

I love this coffee and tea shop. Everything tastes great and the service is excellent and friendly. On Mondays, MNF is playing outside on a huge screen with a fireplace. They roast their own coffee and make their own tea. Better yet, they are family owned and San Diego based! This is my new favorite place to hang out and take my wife and daughters for tea. Been meaning to try out their coffee for some time now. My son brought home a fundraising form for his HS band a couple of days too late earlier this year, and my wife and I were left intrigued with a SD shop extending themselves to a school which wasn't really close to any of their stores. Never been a big SB fan, and definitely prefer CBT, but I think I've found my new fave chain, if you can really call them that. My wife got a Nutella Frap, and while I found it really sweet, you could taste the robust bean underneath. Turns out they use their Espresso Gold in all of their Frap drinks, so I picked up a bag. Super nice barista even gave me a sample so I would know what I was buying. Great coffee, and great customer service. It's too bad I'm about 20 miles away from the closest location... read more
