At first I thought it was way too much rice, but after taking a few bites, I realized you actually need it. I found the poke itself to be on the salty side, but when you eat it together with the rice, it balances out really well. Without the rice, I think it would've been a little too salty for my taste. Overall, I thought it was good, and it definitely brought back memories of eating Ry's in Hawaii. That being said, I still think the Oahu locations are better. I've been to Ry's a couple of times now, and I'll definitely be back for the Lao Style and the Gingahchurri--my top two so far! I've also tried the Shoyu, Limu, Ponzu Crunch, and Spicy Hawaiian, but the Lao Style and Gingahchurri are by far the most flavorful. You can choose between tuna and salmon, but this comes down to personal preference. Either fish, expect the fish to be super fresh and delicious! Looking forward to trying out more flavors in my future visits. Why only four stars? My first visit was disappointingly underwhelming. The Shoyu seemed underseasoned, while the Spicy Hawaiian was a bit too rich and creamy for my taste. I never write a Yelp review after just one visit, so I'm glad I came back and got to try the Lao Style and Gingahchurri! I've also tried the Tsunami Nachos, and I'm not a big fan of the fried wonton chips since they were a little too oily. Tortilla chips might work better. Finally, the rice in the poke bowls could definitely be improved. If you're lucky, you'll catch the owner, Ryan, at the shop. He's incredibly nice and hospitable! It's nice to have a branch of a Hawaiian poke shop here in the mainland. Everything looks and tastes just like how you'd have it in Hawaii. I liked how customizable everything was including the types of sauces. There was also tons of Hawaiian Sun drinks and more as drinks for you to grab. I took it to go and unlike the usual bready nachos, these were made out of deep fried wonton skins. Which gave it an airy and arguably less oily bite than something like Mexican tortilla chips. The one downside is how far away it is located from the usual Old Town Pasadena area. It's actually in East Pasadena and pretty close to where Pasadena becomes Arcadia. But if you make it a little errand trip by bundling it with places like the Home Depot and Target, I can see this place being just a takeout only. I've come to the conclusion that Hawaiian style poke is just not for me. It's not bad, but at its steep price point, I don't think it's worth it. It's $22.50 for a two-scoop poke plate (you can do half salad & half rice) with your choice of poke flavors - no sides or additional toppings unless you're willing to pay extra. After tax and tip, it's about $27 for just one plate. One cool thing here though is that you can choose between ahi/salmon/tofu when choosing your flavor, so lots of combinations in that regard. We tried 5 different poke flavors and ordered the nachos as well, and the flavor that was the most unique and memorable was the lao-style ahi. Firecracker ahi was my second favorite. I would pass on the california style as it was a bit bland, but the only saving grace is that it comes with some avocado. Nachos are good because they use wonton chips and the crab salad in it is yummy. But the thing that irked me the most is that considering the high price tag and the fact that we got here at opening and were the third order of the day, somehow 2/3 of our orders were messed up. We were completely missing a second scoop of poke from our nachos, and I was given two scoops of rice instead of the half and half I requested. I've been craving poke and this place has been on my list! I've heard about this place when the HB open and haven't been. But since this location opened, it's closer to home. We got a bowl and poke nachos. The bowl is always good but this time I tried the poke nacho which tasted so good. The wonton chips were crispy and everything together was delicious. There's always a long line here, so we finally decided to give it a try. After placing our order, it took about 15 minutes to get our food. Shoutout to the staff member at the counter who was taking orders, packing everything, and serving customers all at once, props to him for handling it all! My friends and I got both the poke salad and poke bowl. One thing that was disappointing was that the regular size only comes with one sauce and no additional toppings unless you pay extra. The prices also felt a little overpriced for what you get. We tried the shoyu, hot shoyu, and spicy tobiko sauces, and all of them were really good. Unfortunately, the spring mix in my salad tasted soggy and not very fresh, which made the experience more disappointing overall. Worth trying once, but I'm not sure if I'd come back. read more

Probably the best Hawaiian-style poke in the area, and my favorite in the mainland. Growing up in Hawaii I love my fish-centered poke that gets a bit lost in the California-styled poke bowls with a million side toppings. Here they have a blend between the two, with a pick your fish and sauce. The flavors are not just a simple sauce but a style preparation (like the Hawaiian style poke). The only big difference is the fish cuts are much smaller cubes, like seen in the California styled ones. The only hang up is the price is on the high end (22.50 for a two choice), and lines can be long. At least there is a large lot behind the building that is free. read more

Hits the spot, the salmon and tuna are fresh! The Limu flavor is refreshing and delicious. I got the spicy tobiko which is creamy. I wish the rice wasn't mushy but I know some people like that. The salad is standard, nothing special. Servers are straightforward and take your order. Seating can get cramped especially if there's a lot of people. read more
