Sabry really is a hidden gem. Since I was last here in 2020, the restaurant has considerably upgraded its premises. Brand new tables and decor make the restaurant look much more modern. Today we ordered shrimp and mussels, which were delicious. An updated note: many items are marked as market rate. So, in other words, you should check with your server before ordering anything marked MR.
Cuisine: 8 Service: 7 Decor: 6 Value: 7 Overall: 8 I'm updating this review because I had such an enjoyable meal last night at this long standing palace of seafood, and I wanted to share the experience to remind everyone why we all should continue supporting this wonderful establishment. Being honest, it's been a while since I have returned because I have favored Hamido Seafood lately, right after a previous love affair with Abuqir Seafood two doors down. Then there is the old reliable Astoria Seafood and the new kid on the block, Le Petite Pecheur, which I really enjoy as well. However, once again, Sabry's proves again that they have the best pitas in the business. A full basket comes with fluffy and chewy goodness that none of their competitors can match. I do wish their dips (babaganoush, humus, tahini) were better as I have mentioned, but they are all solid 7's. Onto the seafood. What an excellent version of Grilled Octopus (9/10), with maybe the best crispy char I have tasted in recent memory. I do wish the sauce had a touch of vinegar. Not a big deal. Another near perfect dish was their Grilled Sea Scallops (9/10). They were extra large, super tender, sitting in a pool of delicious tangy sauce (reminiscent of NoLa style BBQ shrimp sauce). The Grilled Shrimps (7/10) were slightly overcooked, while the Taojine Mixed (7/10) was somewhat watery and a bit too dill forward. Lastly, the broth of the Seafood Soup (7/10) was clean and light. The calamri and clams were still tender, but the shrimps were a tad overcooked once again. Clearly after this meal, I have to add Sabry's back into my rotation of pick your own seafood type of restaurants. This was the place where I had my first experience with Egyptian style seafood and it is still one of the best after all these years.
This place is something else. I came with my dad, husband, and sister, and we had an absolute blast from start to finish. My dad is Egyptian, so food like this carries real meaning for our family, and Sabrys delivered in every way. The moment we walked in, we were met with the kind of warmth and hospitality that makes you feel like a guest of honor. They treat everyone that way, which makes it even more special. The meal began with fresh housemade bread, incredible hummus, baba ganoush, and salad, and then came the fish. Honestly, the best fish I've ever had, and we've dined at wonderful restaurants all over the country. We ordered the grilled platter with calamari, shrimp, and salmon, plus a fried combo that was light and perfectly done. Not greasy, just real home cooking, like your Egyptian grandmother made it. The branzino was outstanding, and the rice brought me straight back to childhood. Every dish tasted like it was made with genuine love and care, because it was. If you want to eat somewhere that feeds your soul as much as your stomach, come here. We'll be back every chance we get.
Visited on 3-29-2026 I took my Dad out to lunch for a belated 80th birthday. His older brother & my cousin joined us. This is a perfect example how you have to travel outside your normal area because obviously Egyptian seafood is a big thing in Astoria, Queens. Steinway Street is loaded with many options to have a good meal. Meanwhile, we live in Suffolk County and I have not had the pleasure of enjoying Egyptian seafood anywhere in Nassau or Suffolk. In short. WE LOVED IT! Walking in, we were greeted warmly by the staff. And our waiter was awesome and I believe it was the owner who came to check by the table. He was very funny & personable. They made us feel very welcome there. Like old friends. My uncle & I shared the Seafood combo for 2. A whole lobster, lots of Calamari & Shrimp & a Fish Filet. My Dad had the Butterflied Branzino. Incredible! And my cousin had the Shrimp Scampi with Linguine. All meals were served with a side of brown rice, except my cousin's dish. The salad for the table was crisp & refreshing. And that homemade Pita was delicious! Not just because it was hot. It actually had flavor! Have to go back to try the tagines. I can't stop thinking about their pita bread. So dayum good! Can't wait to go back. 4-5-2026
We wanted to try the same type of restaurant down the street but they didn't open on time, so we gave this one a try and what a pleasant surprise. The personnel working there made us feel right at home with a nice dining area that we were seated at. I had the butterflied grilled Branzino with a special lemon butter sauce that was the best I ever had,excellent. Our party also ordered the seafood combination for two that they said was amazing. It had a whole lobster, shrimp, fish, scallops and calamari. The shrimp scampi I had a taste of was absolutely delicious. The best part is you can choose your own fish or lobster from there fresh seafood counter. I will definitely be going back to try some more of their delicious food on the menu.
Lovely place with lovely people. We walked in on a Friday night at 6pm, and there were tables available with no wait. We ordered the seafood sample for two, and it came with a great assortment of lobster, fillet, scallop, shrimp, and squid. The sauce was delicious and they left the whole lobster so you could scoop the brains out which added even more flavor. Every meal comes with a complementary pita and salad. I also tried the strawberry milk and it was so delicious. Had a great time!
Nice small restaurant. Excellent fresh seafood.. The orders were perfectly cooked and served fast The reason I didn't give a five star to this place because when our food was open on a table, the waiter started cleaning nearby table spraying in the air, blue colored chemical liquid And a particles fly in air towards our food and table. If it was not appetizing at all, plus a terrible smell. They should use just a wet cloth and cannot spray chemicals in the air when people eating so close:( sad Also service charge is 20procent in the bill.
As you can tell from the pics, we absolutely devoured this!!! My favorite was the pita lol along with the calamari and lobster ofc Service was amazing, they were friendly and welcoming and attentive. We visited on a Saturday late afternoon and it was pretty empty but by the time it was 3pm it was starting to get busy and they started playing music. Definitely would recommend the seafood combo for 2 - so much value!! At the end of the meal they even served us dessert that every table got, such a nice touch! I would love to come back and try more
Food: The food is very average here. We came here on a Saturday during lunch time, and the place was pretty empty. The dishes were overall okay but nothing impressive that would make me want to go back. The best thing was the pan seared scallops and fresh bread. The clam dish was extremely salty and not enjoyable. The grilled fish was not that tasty and a bit dry in some parts. The dishes are pretty pricey for what you get. I was overall pretty disappointed in this meal. Service: Service was also just okay. The staff don't really come to check on you throughout the meal. They do add tip to the bill automatically regardless of your party size. Ambiance: The restaurant is a good size and can accommodate both small and large groups. They have outdoor seating as well. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant and won't be returning.
Went for a dinner with my brothers on a Monday evening and had an amazing time here. Kind of small so i could imagine it gets packed quickly on busy days, but we had no issues this time. Greeted by the server, then we walked over to the fish selection area and scouted what we wanted. Our server directed us to which item we will enjoy so we let him bless us with the best fish he had in mind. Started with their seafood soup, absolutely appetizing and excites the stomach before the main dishes. This one is a must have every time I visit. Comes with shrimps, squid, mussels or clams, onions, in a savory tomato broth. One order can be shared with the table, for 4 of us we ordered 2 because the boys were hungry, but I imagine 3-4 can share one order of soup. Additional appetizers were baba ghanoush, hummus and their crisp house salad with fresh pita. Mains were the sardines, lightly fried. Branizino butterflied with the garlic lemon sauce. Order of tajine with squids and shrimps. Everything was out of this world delicious. Highly recommend this place and I will be back again!
Excellent! I'm not sure what else to say. The seafood was fresh, and the staff was super friendly and attentive. The prices were reasonable, and they offer both indoor and outdoor seating. I will definitely be back for more seafood. We had grilled octopus, Grilled Shrimp and Fried seafood combo. Delicious!
Keep in mind everything is cooked fresh, so it'll take awhile to get your food. They provide salad & khubz (freshly baked): 3/5 Salad- standard, wish they provided dressing Seafood combo for 1 $35: 4/5 Shrimp (5)- pretty good, except 1 was a bit overdone 4/5 Scallop (1)- really good, wish there was more than 1 3/5 Baby squid (2) - decent, except 1 had burnt tentacles 3/5 L squid body- good, but can use a bit more seasoning 2/5 fish- too bland-not enough salt, can use a ton of seasoning 2/5 grilled sea bass $35- too bland-not enough salt, can use more seasoning 3/5 Dessert plate: (on the house for us) Basboussa Baklava Knafeh Standard. Everything wuda been great if it wasn't so sweet. 3/5 service: the owner/manager? was very nice at 1st. He said to ask if we had any questions. I asked what was in the seafood combo & didn't catch what he said twice (fillet), so he got mad & ended up yelling at me the 3rd time, lol. When we asked the price of the fish the 2nd time (cuz we couldn't remember the different prices from the 1st time he informed us), he got a bit annoyed. My dude, some of us are Dorys. Unless we work there, we won't be able to remember the prices you told us several mins ago. When I asked for basboussa to go, he gave us the dessert plate on the house. He also gave my mom & other moms roses for Mother's Day. The other servers were really nice tho.
Food was delicious! The place is small but clean and service is amazing! We really enjoyed everything we ordered. Definitely worth making a trip to Astoria if you don't live close by already.

Amazing seafood at decent prices The meal starts with freshly baked bread. The perfect start to a wonderful meal. Free5/5 Babaghanoush was perfectly flavored-- no bitterness at all. $4.50; 5/5 Ordered the seafood combo for 2, which comes with a whole lobster, 2 fish fillet, scallop, shrimp, squid, squid. Everything was covered in sauce then grilled to perfection. Comes with salad & rice or fries (which were freshly fried). Absolutely delicious! $50; 5/5 Calamari was fried to perfection & is accompanied by marinara. No chewy squid here. $15; 5/5 We had 2 boxes of leftovers. You can't beat the prices & the quality. Definitely a gem you must try. read more

Food and service was great! There are three different menu sections with fish (entrees, grilled and Egyptian style) they differ in the spices they use basically. Go Egyptian style but if but ask if the difference they are very nice and will explain. We also got the grilled octopus really good not overcooked at all. No alcohol no byo. read more

Wow staying at a hotel across the street from Sabry and tried it out. The place is small but as soon as you walk in there is a huge lobster tank followed by a display of Fresh Fish in ice. We ordered a whole Bronzino grilled Egyptian style which did not disappoint with a salad and a soup like shrimp in a tomato based sauce which came with rice on the side. We were going to ordered a red snapper but the server said it would be too much food and suggested the Bronzino. Also there was a homemade pita bread which was like I never tasted before to dip and use as a backboard for bit the fish and the shrimp dish. The fish was so flavorful and cooked to perfection. The shrimp came in a ceramic bowl sizzling and the smell was fabulous. The cost of this meal was $66. I was totally shocked at the price and was figuring much higher for the food we are. read more

Wow. This was a treat. The wait staff was on it, and it was fun. My friend, who's from Egypt, brought me here. He then told the owner and chef that it's my first time! Let the food begin. We started with a fresh salad and fresh hot (addictive) bread. Tasty. Then the eggplant, tahini, and octopus....omg... more bread. I'm filling up, and my main dish isn't near! My main, which looked amazing, was a blackened fish that could just float off the plate. It was so light and fluffy. Even the side of rice was exciting to the taste buds. Did I mention the bread. It was special. Omg...I forgot about the shrimp! We're not yet to dessert...!!! Why get one when you can have all 4?! Duh!? Please forgive me. I don't know the names...Baklava, custard, rice cake (?) and corn cake. Mind blowing flavors and textures. Each different bit all wondrous.... it was washed down with a powerfully strong espresso! this was a great first time to an Egyptian seafood house. Wow. Thank you! read more

Bottom Line: absolutely amazing food, attentive service and great value for your money. Sabry's offers a wide variety of super fresh seafood, cooked to order, with perfection with amazing Middle Eastern and Mediterranean spices and flavors. All meals are accompanied by fresh garden salad and homemade warm pita bread. The seafood platter for two (lobster, fish, calamari, shrimp) cooked in a delicious saffron sauce is quite the feast. Lots of fish to choose from but I highly recommend the Branzino chargrilled to perfection. Savory and succulent. Service was attentive and caring. Space is very tasteful. No alcohol and no BYOB! read more

This is really a 3 star review but the food was ok and the servers were cool. That's the saving grace to bring it back to a 4 star. One wanted fish, the other wanted to try something different. That's how we ended up eating seafood at a Egyptian place. The reviews were great and the food looked good but the experience were quite the opposite. The servers are cool - no doubt about it. The food was just mediocre. Well except the bread. The bread is awesome. Baked clams is just something I love when I see it on the menu. This version was good but it came out a bit burnt. We waited a long time for our seafood combo. A very long time. It's probably cause the kitchen was tiny. A whole lobster, shrimp, calamari, scallops, and a filet of fish. It tasted like the baked clams. For $50, it was totally worth it but it just didn't taste amazing. And we waited too damn long to eat. read more

Went here to celebrate my anniversary with the family and the restaurant exceed our expectations. We order the Fried Calamari, Linguine Fruit De Marie and Seafood Combo for two. The food and service was great. read more

I don't like leaving negative reviews but this experience was awful. I would have given this one star but the guys working were nice and offered us water while we waited for our order, and the hummus / salad were the best part of the meal. The seafood combo for 2 was really bad. Overcooked, absolutely no flavor, sitting in so much liquid that the fish got soggy. The calamari, shrimp and lobster were so rubbery and chewy that they didn't have the chance to get soggy. The lack of flavor was worse than the fact that it was overcooked. No salt. No garlic. Zero flavor. I thought maybe because we got this to go that it may have led to some issues, but I've ordered seafood to go from other places (Astoria Seafood is the best imo) with absolutely zero problems and perfectly cooked / flavored. After paying $81 and throwing out most of this dish, needless to say we were disappointed. It's a shame because the place and people were cool. By far the best Middle Eastern food I have ever had. Every bit of seafood scallops and calamari we had from the muscles to the scallopscooked perfection. We're from California so getting good seafood here in New York was a special treat. The owner and all of his waiters were so pleasant and kind. The service was excellent and the restaurant was clean. We enjoyed sitting out on the patio watching people walk by as we ate. read more

I wish I could remember the first time I ate at Sabry's, but it was far too many years ago. Since then, it's been a staple in my life. No one grills a branzino or a dorade or a sea bass like Sabry's. Have the fish whole, drench it with the lemon slices provided, and you don't need anything more. They do beautiful pitas too, with a lovely baba ganoush. If you really want to trash your diet, the fried spearing are fun. The servers feel like family. End with mint tea or a mint lemonade and watch life go by on Steinway. It's good. I should also add that there is no better place for a whole fish in Astoria. Bahari is a close competitor for grilled octopus, sure, and Abu Qir has better scallops. But when it comes to the main course, Sabry's rises above the competition. read more
If you enjoy a real seafood experience, coupled with an authentic Mediterranean flavor profile, you need not look any further. The owner of the establishment "Sabry" will guide you through his native Alexandrian seafood preparation style. If you do not want to be bothered with the menu, just ask the server to get you today's recommendations! My favorites are, blackened grilled while stripped bass. The fish is cleaned and the cavity gets plenty of fresh minced garlic soaked in cumin powder and just the right amount of lemon. Then it is grilled and served whole..:just absolute perfection. The grilled large prawns are also a favorite. All his dishes come with a potion of red rice, and there are plenty of middle eastern salads to choose from. The grilled octopus is also one of my favorites. If you do not have a favorite yet. I would recommend the mixed seafood platter, which Sabry will prepare according to the number of people in your party. The ambience is very middle eastern and indicative of a typical eatery in Alexandria. Do not expect to be in and out fast though, everything is freshly prepared so it takes time. Service is 10 outta 10 Food is 10 outta of 10 Im coming back to take one the rest of the menu. The food here is delicious. The grilled octopus didn't make it to the picture because its was devoured. The tagjin is so delicious and the spread whoaazzaa. But the star and my personal favorite was the grilled branzino. read more

I don't normally leave reviews on here. But I've been meaning to stop by this spot for their Seafood Combo for 2. And boy I was not disappointed. The staff was very friendly from the moment we asked to be seated. All smiles and very accommodating. It was just my daughter and my young son. So we didn't order a lot of food. But whatever we did order was more than enough for all of us. We ended up ordering an order o Fried Calamari. What I liked about it was that it wasn't over breaded and tasted fresh. Then for the reason we came, we ordered the Seafood Combo for 2. It came with 3 sides. Rice, salad & pita bread. And the most amazing part of those sides were the freshly baked bread that they gave us. So good that we had to take some home. Now for the Seafood Combo for 2. It comes with a whole lobster, shrimp, salmon, squid & scallops. It was all delicious! And all that seafood for only $50! Looking forward to coming back here again! read more

5 Stars for service! Super friendly and very attentive wait staff. However, during this time on pandemic, only one wait staff was wearing a mask, everyone else including the kitchen staff were all not wearing one. We contemplated to leave when we noticed that. Food wise, it is definitely very reasonably priced with big portions. If you get the seafood platter for one, it comes with a lobster tail. If you order platter for 2, you'll get a live lobster from the aquarium. The tagine tasted like marinara sauce with parsley. Side salad and pita bread are complimentary. We ordered the appetizer fried calamari but was charged the main course calamari. I try to write positive reviews and support local businesses but I think restaurants should do their part to keep their customers too and wear a mask; don't speak over their food with open mouth. I am not posting any pics of the staff due to privacy and safety reasons but let's do hope they will make it safer for their patrons. read more

Been here a few years ago, forgot how good it was....Egyptian seafood....started with babaganoush, very nice...Hummus was just ok, dill in Hummus, doesn't belong IMO, had better....The pita was was nice & fluffy....Mixed seafood platter for 2, was filet of sole, scallop, grilled calamari, shrimp and whole lobster for only $65! The portion is huge, I had leftovers and comes with rice and salad....Everything very well seasoned and the seafood is super fresh....Atmosphere and service is whatever but you come here for the food and nothing else....Also note that they don't have dessert on the menu but Al Sham is right down the block..? read more

Hidden Gem. Been a patron for years. Fresh ingredients, talented chefs, professional weight staff. A perfect recipe for a spectacular meal. Absolutely love the linguine with seafood! Huge fan freshly baked bread. Highly recommended! read more

It's been two days, and I'm still thinking about the food. Even the sides like the pita & the rice-- outstanding. Everything was tender, fresh and absolutely delicious. Service was fine and it was all moderately priced! Can't wait to come back. read more

Just left and already planning a second visit back! The staff was kind and attentive-- we never ran out of water (always a plus in NY) and their food suggestions were impeccable. We had hummus and grilled octopus to start. Both were fresh with great seasoning. For mains, we shared an Egyptian-style fish and Mixed Seafood Tajine. I'll be dreaming of that Tajine for weeks to come, so SO delicious!! I would absolutely recommend! read more
