A friend and ramen aficionado recently shared this was her favorite ramen in all of Austin, so we went for a run and ended here for dinner. The mango salad was incredibly flavorful topped with a handful of full size shrimp and a shrimp cracker on the side. Don't sleep on that cracker. I ordered a chicken ramen and my friend had the chasu. There was a quite generous portion of chicken / chasu on our respective bowls. The flavor was on point. I took my leftovers home and thoroughly enjoyed day 2 as well. The service was very hospitable, served with love and care. The restaurant is in a clean and open space, and has a decent amount of seats. I will be back for more ramen and to try a bahn mi. What an assuming gem tucked into east 7th between Pedernales and Calles - blink and you'll miss it! Keep an eye out for Domino's as a landmark. There are a few parking spots in front. read more

The grilled pork and the sauce they use is average. Delicious but nothing special - it could use a bit more sauce. The egg rolls are good but nothing special either. Price is about $8/banh mi which is on the higher end. The cashier was kind of a strange guy... wasn't sure if he was on something? But he was nice... They also have 2 cats that live under the food truck. Rumor on Yelp says they kept them there to keep away the rats. Looks can be deceiving!! While restaurant is small in size and located in a sketchy area, I HIGHLY recommend Saigon on 7th! This place serves AUTHENTIC Vietnamese dishes. Colleagues recommended and as a first timer I was nicely surprised. Everything ordered was DEEPLY flavorful. We decided on the shrimp skewer, pork egg rolls and fried wings as small bites. HIGHLY recommend the shrimp skewer. My goodness soooooo good!!! Fried wings were a little gamey. I just had the most amazing Banh Mi and Bun at Saigon on 7th. The Banh Mi was highlighted by the perfect French roll, honey glazed grilled pork, and topped off with fresh veggies. I only ate half to save room for the Bun, but it was tempting to gorge myself by eating that second half. The bun was impressive. I tried the grilled lamb which was delicious. The bowl was not too loaded with noodles, giving the all the fresh veggies, herbs and spices a chance to shine. I did finish to the last drop. Ordered takeout from Saigon today, lamb banh mi, chicken curry ramen and corn ribs. The lamb was super bitter for some reason and not very enjoyable, the bread was great. The ramen was way too sweet, the chicken was charred nicely and the thickness of the noodles was perfect. The corn ribs - again - way too sweet, it almost tasted like a funnel cake? It was odd, basically just deep fried flavor which left much to desire. All in all not terrible but not great, I wouldn't recommend. read more

Lunchtime here on a weekend is fun...especially when it's during the Eastside vintage market. Banh mi at a food truck is the perfect option for a lunchtime meal when the weather outside is nice and you're looking for something fresh, full of veggies and with a crunch. The baguette for banh mi is key. The bread needs to be fresh and perfectly crunchy without being deathly grating on the roof of your mouth. Saigon Le Vendeur does it right! I had their tofu option which was delicious and veggie friendly! They give the perfect amount of daikon, carrot and cilantro portions. It's easy to locate the food truck, and there's tons of outdoor seating as well as seating that's in a little garden in the back where other stores like a massage spot is located. It's got a very hippie and free flowy vibe to that area, so it's perfect for families, couples or just dining solo. They have to go boxes too if you want to save your banh mi for later. They also serve other menu items, so you don't have to just have sandwiches if you're not feeling it. Service was aite, nothing friendly, but they work fast! I appreciate all of y'all working the line to pop out delicious items like nobody's business. The banh mi is definitely made with an "elevated" feel. It's nothing like Little Vietnam or anything you'd get at your local Viet market. I miss the banh mi from back home :( but the fresh quality and beautiful presentation of the banh mi from this food truck takes the cake! TLDR: Classically quirky Austin eatery run out of a converted shipping container by the railroad tracks. Very good food that's worth a visit. Finally got to Saigon Le Vendeur to try out their specialty, banh mi. Picked up a nice trio - spicy chicken, grilled pork, and the 'OG - the classic with Vietnamese-style cold cuts'. They packaged up everything in little boxes to go (a must in these pandemicky times) and when I got home to try them, the presentation is excellent. While on the pricey side for banh mi, it's appropriate - this is an 'elevated' sandwich with more meat (and better cuts of it) than a typically Vietnamese market. Each sandwich is packed with ingredients and a lot of pate for a velvety feel. The spicy chicken is probably my favorite, with a nice zing to the meat, followed by the OG with some really thick cuts of what I'd call Vietnamese bologna. A couple things are a bit underwhelming - the bread's an odd texture, more bunlike than baguette-like. The pickled veggies are exceptionally mild while the slices of jalapeno are so hot they can overwhelm the rest of the sandwich if they're not picked off. Still, this is an excellent bite of food the whole way around, and I'd come back happily. Note #1: If you'd not in the mood for banh mi they have some other excellent-looking noodle dishes. Note #2: Be aware of the parking situation. There's 4 car slots directly in front of the location. Otherwise, street parking is available but you may have a bit of a walk ahead of you. This place scores a 4 out of 5 on the 'CTJ Scale', as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. Would be OK passing away after finishing a plate here. 4 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Mary good. Would be OK having a nosh here with Mother Mary. 3 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Joseph good. Would be OK having a beer here with Jesus' Dad. 2 out of 5 stars: Come-to-the-Apostles good. Meh. This place is my go-to spot if I ever forget to order our office lunch. It's close by and the banh mi is filling and delicious. Parking may seem limited, but there's a huge, empty lot next to it as well. I'd recommend ordering beforehand if you're in a time crunch since it does take some time to get your order. In terms of food, you can never go wrong with the grilled pork Bahn mi or the spicy chicken.. I haven't tried the other banh mi options so I can speak for those. I tried the egg rolls once, but they came out burnt so that was sad, but will try the spring rolls next time I go back. Their Vietnamese iced coffee is good (I personally like the flavor but also find it a tad bit sweet because of the condensed milk.. but then again I also find a latte sweet). read more

This used to be a food trailer and they used to have a terrible rat problem. so they caged 3 cats in the middle of the summer when it's 100°. What a cute establishment. I almost missed it trying to find it off Airport. It's not a truck but just a repurposed shipping container next to a small vintage shop. I only saw three parking spots off the road which I luckily got one in, but there may be more around the area you can park at. We ordered pork spring rolls, pork banh mi, and pork vermicelli. It all came out looking beautifully. The pork in the spring roll looked like spam but it wasn't. I didn't get to try my friend's banh mi but he liked it (he's Vietnamese so I trust this). My vermicelli bowl was pretty good but a little salty. I don't know if it's just how it was or I probably just poured too much of the fish sauce. It was good and generously portioned and my only complaint was that the noodles were kind of stuck together and a bit hard (as in not fresh).
