I'm not really a fan. I gave three stars because my food was done on time and ready when I got there to pick it up. BUT it was kind of odd to me that the pho broth was in a clear plastic container instead of styrofoam. The broth didn't stay hot enough like it would have if it was in a foam cup so then the meat stayed almost raw. Not only was that disappointing but the broth itself had no flavor. I'm a big fan of pho. This was one of my least favorites I've ever had. Maybe it would be better in restaurant instead of delivery? Idk. Pho Vinh in Chula Vista is much better. The Pho and Banh mi are good but not great , but I do eat here for lunch as it is close to my job. BETTER then the other places in the Mission Valley/Claremont Mesa area. UPDATE: Recently went again and WOW! they have a new menu and its great! Okay so here is the deal, if you just want PHO then this place is a A good 2nd choice for me, but if you want a good rice or noodle plate selection this place has menu items i've not seen since I lives in San Jose, CA (little Saigon) I've moved them to a 4 star list. Sorry, but I'm gonna have to take off a couple stars since the place is just too clean and visually pleasing for a pho joint (kidding, of course). Since I come here regularly for my noodle fix, I can only speak for the pho (& bbq pork spring rolls). Somehow I just can't seem to get myself to order anything else simply because I love their pho so much! Certainly it's a matter of preference, but I find the pho broth here so wonderfully rich and robust - much more so than Pho T Cali, Pho Ca Dao, or Pho Cow Cali Express. Also, they are quite generous with the meat toppings. A small bowl here is quite ample and much more filling than many of the aforementioned places, where I usually have to order large bowls. As for those bbq pork spring rolls - wonderfully tasty! Service here is friendly and prompt. The decor is modern and quite pleasing to the eye, which is a surprising departure from the typical 'eating turnstile' manner in which most pho shops tend to present themselves. The pho here is really good. No complaints about that. The issue I have is their rice entree. I usually get the shrimp and beef combo and they usually only put 4 small, bland pieces of shrimp. They're generous with the beef and especially with the rice but never the shrimp. I think if I'm paying almost $11 for the dish there should at least be more or bigger pieces. I have received better tasting and more out of the rices dishes at other Vietnamese restaurants. Go here for the pho but skip the other stuff. read more

Location: It is in the same complex as the petco and cupcakes a la yola Decor: It is fairly dim and has curtains blocking the view from the outside. At first I had a hard time finding the front door, but the seating is very nice and comfortable if you can get a booth. It's fairly quiet and clean. Food & Drinks: I have ordered their combination Pho and it was really good. The noodles didn't stick together and the meat tasted great. There was a good amount of it and the soup base was great. They even have amazing tofu spring rolls that actually had large pieces of fried tofu inside. Overall it is good Pho, but missing that something extra special for that last star. I'm a huge fan of PHO - it's so delicious! My husband and I decided on a whim to try out Saigon Star because its close to our home and what wouldn't be cooler than delicious pho near home?!? Saigon Star delivered pure phenomenal pho (like the alliteration there?)! The broth had a delicious flavor/seasoning to it and they had both siracha and chili sauce to add into my pho to make it supah spicy and to my liking. Additionally, the provided extra mint and lime to add to my liking to the dish. I had the rare steak pho - soooooooooo (10 o's) scrumptious! And lets take a moment here to chat about the price - super inexpensive, especially for the quantity and quality of the food. I recently was in Vegas and ordered Pho - it was $19 and not nearly as delicious. (Lame - shame on you Vegas!) I go back to this lil' slice of heaven at least once a week to get my pho addiction under control. Some of their apps are delicious too - like the spring rolls, egg rolls, wontons, and chicken wings. Only been here for pho so far. This place is definitely growing on me. The pho is pretty good, not my favorite but it is better than lots of places around me. The chicken is "clean" if you know what I mean, nicely cooked white meat. They give you a ton of chicken and a ton of noodles, I've never been able to finish my bowl yet. Sometimes the broth is a tad salty but not too bad. Maybe a tiny bit more expensive than the hole in the wall places but nothing too bad. Decor is really nice and clean, it's actually well-decorated. They are just about to open a new little bar inside where they make fresh smoothies and crepes and serve beer. Staff is really friendly too. read more

Mediocre Vietnamese food and poor QA. This is mediocre Vietnamese food at best. Their pho is bland, other soups and sauces are watered down, and their meat, spring rolls, and noodles are dry or old. So why have I tasted so much of their menu regardless of the quality? Location - they are closer than Convey and Little Saigon (south of the 8). So they get an additional star for that. Finally, I strongly recommend dine-in only. They frequently forget to add items in take-out and online orders, and they will still charge you for the forgotten items. You can roll the dice and hope they credit you in the future - they have a "system" where they write down your name on a note by their register for future credits, but if they can't remember to add items to the original order, I find it hard they will remember days/weeks from now. So if you must eat here, dine in. For us, it's time to eat better Vietnamese food. read more

This place is extremely clean & remodeled with the best pho that I have had yet. I ALWAYS order the veggie/tofu pho and as an appitizer I always get fried spring rolls and wrap it in the lettuce & mint! yum yum yum if you like hot sauce you MUST put Siracha in it because that adds so much to the flavor. The decor in this place is amazing! It feels very comfortable, just like you're in someone's house. It's very nice. I got the egg rolls, a bbq chicken sandwich and thai iced tea with boba. Matt got the vegetarian pho with extra tofu and broccoli. The egg rolls were delicious! The outside was super crispy and the inside was very yummy. The bbq chicken sandwich was really good also. The bread was perfectly soft and a bit crunchy (in a good way) at the same time. The pho was good, but not the best. Good food but the new waitress forgot about us completely it took her 15 minutes to give us or menus and then we waited around for her to come back so we could put in our order 20 minutes went by and we were at that point just waiting to see her again just to flag her down we were about to leave and a she finally comes back and we had questions about the menu so she sends a different waiter over and we give him our order. The time from us sitting down to us ordering was about 40 minutes. We got our food pretty quickly after that but once we finished we again we were waiting for the check just sitting there look for a waiter or waitress we waited about 20 minutes and then got up to just stand by the cash register. The food was fine but literally the worst service I've ever had. I came here for lunch awhile back with my friend. Her and I ordered pho, which came out piping hot and took awhile to cool down to a tolerable temperature. The pho itself was okay. However, halfway through the bowl I see some CURLY hair in my pho that looked like it came from an area of one's body where the sun don't shine. GROSS!!!!! I wanted to puke immediately and brought this up to the staff. They immediately apologized and gave me a new bowl, but by that time, I had no desire to eat there any longer. I read another review on here from Cindy G. and she also had found hair in her eggrolls! Ewww! Just thinking about it now disgusts me! I suggest Pho Cali in Mission Valley instead. read more

Found this place with the help of my fellow Yelpers and I'm glad. I like Vietnamese food a lot and this place has an upscale look and feel to it. The menu has lots of pictures and items. The only set back is that it's pricier than the average Pho restaurants. Service: It was the typical Vietnamese restaurant service. One nice thing about them was the fact that they spoke English, not well but well enough to understand. They were also very accommodating with my vegan friend. Food: They actually have really good food. Much better than the typical comparable restaurants out there. I got the Bun Dac Biet, the Rice Vermicelli "Special" that came with grilled shrimp, chicken, beef, and egg rolls. Pretty spectacular and was worth the $8. Again... it's a bit pricey, but definitely worth it. Drinks: Not sure, I had water. Overall: This is a fancy Vietnamese Restaurant with higher prices. I typically don't like paying more than I have to, but this place is pretty good. The place has nice decors and the food is tasty. So I suppose it was worth paying a visit. Both the take out and dine-in options are great here. When you order take out, they make sure all the soup and accessories are wrapped up nicely so they don't spill in your car! This review is mainly toward their pho, as that is what the restaurant named itself for. The service was very nice, all the waiters and waitresses were prompt and polite. The decor was quaint, lovely, definitely a step up from what you'd normally see at hole-in-the-wall-pho-restaurants. HOWEVER; it is specifically those types of hole-in-the-wall pho restaurants that make superior pho. Unfortunately, the broth was bland and my beef in the pho tai did not taste like rare steak. The main killer was the broth though. That's what makes or breaks good pho, and this place missed the mark by a bit :( Honestly though I live less than a mile away from here, I'd prefer to drive the extra 7 minutes to El Cajon Blvd to Pho Mai or elsewhere for better tasting pho. (In fact I did just that yesterday). It was definitely edible, and not at all horrible, and perhaps I'm just being picky, as a Vietnamese girl who grew up on Pho, but I just dislike sub-par broth. We also ordered the salt and pepper chicken (fried chicken) and ironically, my boyfriend and I both agreed that it needed more salt.......and pepper. LOL. It was mostly just cooked in onion and garlic, and lacked the juiciness of what a bit of salt and pepper would bring out. I love, love, LOVE garlic, but I also know that it is tough to infuse good garlic flavorings with fried chicken, and unfortunately this place did not do very well with that either. My drink was pretty cute though, I had an apple ice tea. It came out in a cute little mason jar like thing, and had bits of apple in it. Delicious. Not worth the price though. I think it was like 4-5$? Very expensive for no refills and the amount you get (mine was mostly filled with ice :( ) All in all I wouldn't come here again, but it's a decent restaurant with good service, don't let me deter you from it if you feel as if you want to give it a try. read more

I've had pho here twice, and both times were great. What made me feel like I should tell you about it, is this time I got it without noodles. You might think that sounds boring, but they filled it up with tons of fresh veggies like bok choy and broccoli. It tasted great, and was perfect for my carb free diet! The restaurant is clean, the atmosphere is cool, and the service is good too. We have a new go-to pho restaurant and this place just isn't as good now that we've explored other options. Terrible service (water refills upon request only and a forgotten boba order), bland vegetarian broth, and questionable veggie quality. The rare steak pho broth was flavorful and very cinnamony with a decent amount of meat, however, I think we'll stick to other pho restaurants from now on. read more

You restored my faith in good Pho with good decor. When I walked in and saw how fancy the place was, I thought, "Holy shit, it's gonna be awful." BUT I WAS SOOO WRONG. The Pho (from having it from my friend) was really good! The broth was super yumm-o! Sadly the bowl was kinda small but whatever. I had the Bun Bo Thit Nuong (Sorry I don't know wtf it's called in English) and that was DELICIOUS. The portions were just right. Enough noodles, salad, and HELLA MEAT. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT. Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! This Pho spot was much needed in this area... and not to mention the Pho is fantastic. It's fresh, and the broth tastes great. I had chicken Pho. The chicken was fresh, and the noodles were fantastic. I've been on a Pho kick for the last 4 weeks... as you can probably see from my check-ins... this is MY FAVORITE Pho spot. I probably shouldn't even be writing about it... I should hold this little secret for myself, but they deserve an excellent review. The servers are very nice and very accommodating. I stopped in for lunch and the service was quick, and the food was great. I've seen some of the other reviews that talk about the ambiance of this place being a little "off". Don't let those reviews fool you... this looks like every other Pho place on the block. It's actually a little nicer because it's decorated with Bamboo. A quick hint... ask for veggies in the Pho... you will be in for a treat. The veggies are fresh and add A LOT to the dish. They have VEGETARIAN Pho for our veggie friends-- so get out and try this place. It needs to be known... they are doing a great job! read more

Just moved right down the street from this place. I've been here twice and the two times I've been here I've experienced wonderful customer service! These guys are so nice and they are quick with the service. The first time I went, I got com tam bi thit ngung and it was delicious. Reminded me of a home cooked meal. They brought out extra soup when I was finished with mine as well! The second time I went, I got Pho Dac Biet. One of the best bowls of pho I've had in San Diego. It was delicious. I have the #14 Pho (slightly different then normal pho) it was delicious, but a bit on the oily side. The Spring rolls were great, and the peanut sauce was a perfect texture. I would advise holding off on two much liquid and going to San diego brewing company next door for a beef after. I had a few iced teas and the pho, and was too full for my favorite beers. Service was slow, but not terrible. Dont go if you are in a rush or power through your drinks, youll be left disappointed. If you have time, or dont need much in the way of refills, they are fine. read more

We ordered here on Christmas Eve, only because our regular place, Pho Express, was closed. We ordered 2 large rare pho and a young coconut. The noodles were a bit softer than we like. I didn't particularly like the broth but my husband did. The young coconut drink wasn't sweet at all. I took one sip and threw the rest out. I went there for the first time today- it was really good! When driving up to the front, the outside appearance might leave you a little skeptical, but once you open the door you are greeted by a beautiful decor for a Pho restaurant. While it comes equipped with the usual set up of paper napkins, Sriracha, straws and chopsticks... on the tables, it is beautifully decorated and is quite large. They do offer to-go orders, but it has plenty of space for large groups, or just lots of customers. I also did notice that there was an ample stack of both booster seats and high chairs. Even what seemed to be a small, beer and wine bar in the back. The difference between this place and the one across the street- Pho Xpress, is that PX is just that- a quick, in and out spot that really seems to foster the to-go option, with little seating and a fast-food like setting. Whereas Pho Saigon Star is more like a place you can sit back, relax, and take your time. Both have equally good food, and the prices are fabulous on both sides- but Pho Xpress is like the quick lunch break, and Pho Saigon Star is the one you take your family to, or a date night. Finally- my Pho Ga was a little overly seasoned in the anise taste, but not terrible by any means! I loved it still, and the egg rolls were perfect. My husband had the beef broccoli, but I have not heard his review, since he's a DI and I only had the chance to drop it off. Although I'm sure it was enjoyable. read more

Restaurant looks very nice. Seems very clean too. Service was good. Food was average at best. Spring rolls were typical, not bad but not the best I've had. On the good side, they did seem like they were freshly made for us, and had not just been sitting around. Peanut sauce was unimpressive. Fried rice was adequate. Chicken curry was thin, watery and disappointing. Thai iced tea was just barely sweetened, really almost unsweetened, and there were no sweeteners at the table. Prices are higher than at most of the Vietnamese dives along El Cajon Boulevard in Little Saigon, but the food quality was not any better. If pretty surroundings mean a lot to you, this place will work, but if the food and value are more important, I'd suggest going up to El Cajon Boulevard. read more

If I want pho, I go to Saigon Star. I call for takeout fifteen minutes ahead and its ready when I arrive and it's just about the best pho broth I have ever found, and priced just a bit more than $10. I always order the combination pho and am never dissapointed. read more

Came here for dinner on a Thursday night. The place was nowhere close to busy. Sat down and the guy came by and simply dropped the menus on our table and walked away. Would have been nice if he said hello, even nicer if he asked us if we wanted drinks. Five minutes later a couple sat down at the booth next to us and we still hadn't been asked if we wanted anything to drink. Then I started to really need a beer when I saw the couple next to us have a couple drinks served at their table. Eventually I asked for them to come by. Finally got a couple beers, but they didn't think we needed glasses (no - it is not just as good to drink beer out of the bottle). Eventually things stabilized and we did get served an ok dinner. The price was very reasonable but I really can't think of any other reason why I'd want to go back. read more

This review is for a pick up order. After order was made online, called restaurant to confirm. Young man who answered was short and a little rude. Hung up before I could ask how long it would take. Got food, had ordered the calamari appetizer. The to go container was not punctured to allow steam to escape so I got a giant pile of soggy squid. Had ask for extra lines. Got one. And here is the kicker- had paid in cash. Total required .46 in change and we only had a $5, no $1. They had the audacity to say they couldn't give us change. As for the food? I don't know if it was due to the bad experience but there was nothing special. Nothing bad though about the quality (except for the squid mush I didn't eat) so you get 2 stars. Good job. read more
