Saki Sushi is tucked away down in Chesire Village, just south of Black Mountain on Route 9. Black Mountain isn't a place I'd expect to find good Sushi/Asian fusion, but this area of NC does always seem to surprise you in the best ways. They have the basic sushi selections, along with their speciality rolls which match with items that you'd expect in the sushi spots in Downtown AVL. Your standard-bearers (spicy tuna, shrimp tempura rolls, etc) are very fairly priced. Usually if you order a special roll you expect around 8 pieces - that's not always the case here, so you may want to ask in advance of ordering to make sure you know what you're getting. I really enjoy their stir fried udon. It's a generous portion size that leaves my wallet happy and provides tomorrow's lunch as well. Service here is very satisfactory. I drink a lot of water during meals, and I never really find myself waiting for someone to come by to refill my glass. Servers are friendly and remembered where we have been seated before. The atmosphere is cozy and comfortable. It is a small restaurant, but there is also outdoor seating. I have not been during the warmer months to take advantage of this, however. Maybe you're a Black Mountain local looking to branch out. Maybe you're an Ashevillian jonesing for a sushi fix after hiking up in Montreat. Hit up this place for a good bite. read more

Presentations are beautiful, and the prices are very reasonable. It was fun to sit at the sushi bar and watch a variety of rolls being prepared. I was especially impressed with the variety of vegetarian rolls, and I loved the one with seaweed and Japanese pickle. Nice place! read more

Best in Asheville area! Always fresh, well constructed and sweet atmosphere. I get the tuna and rainbow rolls. I ask for less rice and they do not perfect! This is hands down the best sushi experience we had. Everything was delicious, and the service was friendly and fast. We got sushi for two, miso soup and salad. I really enjoyed the ginger dressing and the miso soup broth was tasty and had lots of tofu and wakame. I had the Ginger honey tea and my boyfriend had sake. We were serious when we said we need to come back - despite the 8 hour drive! Will need to plan another vacation soon and come back or just move here! read more

GREAT GLUTEN FREE sushi. They are very knowledgeable about gf and I ate 3 times and was fine. Also best tasting sushi and very nice wait staff. They actually had gf spicy mayo so I could eat almost everything except eel sauce. read more

I know, I sound like a shill but I've been there half a dozen times after suffering thru Ingles so-called sushi ( Ingles was good until they ditched the real sushi chef for a little old Baptist lady who should be frying chicken or baking cornbread or anything but sushi, bless her heart) Plus Ingles never had it made by noon and costs more than S/S when they have it, plus they throw out everything that doesn't sell (I hate a food waster almost more than a non-voter) Get your sushi made fresh to order and don't waste that precious seafood Not that my only frame of references for sushi is Ingles, I just want a regular sushi fix close to Black mountain and S/S fits the bill. I studied sushi to the point of trying it myself and was satisfied when I had the right ingredients (but that's expensive) Better to get it made fresh by a pro. The 2 or 3 roll special is my fav, but I will be trying some new items soon. Try the Alaska roll (salmon and avocado) though I don't think they grow avocados in alaska. I like hand rolls because I like the tooth of the nori on the outside. Sit at the bar and enjoy the artistry of the chefs. Ask questions and learn. Expand your horizons beyond fried chicken and cornbread (not that there's anything wrong with that) While I've never been to Kyoto or Kalifornia I do think S/S is on par with any sushi joint I've tried on the east coast. Black Mountain deserves a high quality non-pretentious place like Sake Sushi. Help keep it alive. read more

Not impressed by the food and I would not return. They have very limited options in regards to their sushi rolls and almost everything is either fried or spicy. Their ikura (salmon roe) was disgusting and we had to send it back. They claimed it was fresh and came in that day, so they rinsed it with sweet sake. Ikura is one of my favorites and I order it everywhere. Not only have I never heard of this, but I've never had ikura that tasted the way theirs did. I'm convinced it was just no good. I was so excited to hear that sushi has come to Black Mtn! I picked up some to-go orders for my office today and we were all very pleased. We each got one of the sushi lunch specials and thoroughly enjoyed our food. When I went to pick up our food the staff was extremely friendly and helpful and my order was ready as soon as I got there. We are excited to add Saki-Sushi to our list of favorite lunch spots- we'll definitely be back! read more

Ate there recently for Lunch. Prices are okay for lunch but a little Pricey for dinner. Good sushi though! However, it seems like they deserve a better name! I recommend it if you love sushi, and I think it compares favorably with some of the better sushi places in Asheville. read more

I have eaten sushi all over the USA. This place beats everything I have had.. big pieces of fish super fresh. Hand rolls were amazing. There special rolls were all really well done.
