My family and I came here on a Sunday for early dinner. We had to wait about 25 minutes to get a table. Not terrible until we had to wait on other things later. The server brought the menus shortly after we got seated but it took over 20 minutes to get their attention so we could place our orders. It took an extremely long time to get our order and our food came out at various times. It was extremely annoying when we saw several tables that came in after us get there orders before us. We also saw a a few people that walked in a side door and after talking to a server and chatting with one of the sushi makers, they got seated (ahead of others waiting at the front door) And then they also started getting their appetizers and rolls before others. Not cool at all. It took almost 2 hours from the time we walked in until we left, just for 3 rolls and a couples appetizers. The food was very good. Sake toro sushi is THE PLACE to be if you're needing a relaxed atmosphere with many gluten free options. Logan (front of house) is very knowledgeable about gluten free and Celiac and was training a new server about gluten free and celiac. So the fact that they take it seriously is amazing in itself and shows they truly care about ALL their customers. It does help to call in advanced and let them know you'll need accommodation but there was no in depth explanation needed. All I said was, "I would like to know if you can do gluten free as we have celiac." She (Logan) said not a problem and was fine! Explained that they took extra precaution with their gluten free sashimi, nigiri, rolls and have tamari. They have 3 gluten free sushi rolls too! Their yuzu sauce is gluten free as well! The quality of service we received was amazing from all the staff (Kevin made our sushi), and the quality of fish was a big thumbs up as well! Their hot sake is also gluten free! Excellent sushi spot in Frisco! Bf and I came here dinner for dinner yesterday. We were greeted with friendly smiles and seated almost immediately. The place was fairly busy and had plenty of waiters on staff. We ordered gyozas (delicious), miso soups (great flavor), a special "Donkey King" roll (spicy tuna/white tuna and shrimp tempura inside) and an assortment of sushi. Everything was fresh and excellent quality! They recommended that we try their special yellowtail toro and it was heavenly!! I also loved the decor and the ambience here. This is a long time favorite place of mine. Been going there for years. Went again just after New Year and it didn't disappoint. Tried the Hawaiian tuna and it was amazing! This is the second time I gave this place a try. The service was again, VERY slow. We waited 45 minutes just to get any kind of food on the table. Ordered 2 drinks while waiting and those came out very fast. But as soon as we sat down, we order an appetizer and drinks. Sushi that was ordered AFTER the appetizer, came out first, (45 min later). Appetizer came out 10 min after first plate of sushi came out. The rest of our sushi rolls came out another 10 min after. To get an idea, we down at our table at 8:05 and the last item was finally delivered to our table at 9:05, and hour later. There were 3 different servers and 2 of them checked in on us a couple of times throughout the meal, but while we waited 40 min for our appetizers it was hard to get someone's attention. Expensive? Yes. Delicious? Also yes. Good sushi always puts a dent in the ol' pocket book but this place does a great job. It's not very big, and the tables are crowded together, but the quality makes it worth it. I got to try a lot of different things off their menu. Miso soup - normal and good. Seaweed salad - very tasty, I liked the amount of sesame oil they used. Tuna - great Yellowtail - MUST get. So perfect and delicate. Octopus - Not my cup of tea, but my friend loves octopus and said it was good! Fresh Water Eel - Fantastic! Smelt Roe (with quail egg) - Super yummy. I love the way roe pops when you eat it! Escolar - Never had it before this place, but it was very light and tasty. Mackerel - IF you like it, make sure you save it until last. It's such a strong tasting fish you're not going to have anything after. We had the pearl sake with it and it was by far the best sake they offer. I know because we tasted several of them before finally choosing this one. (Thanks to the cool guy at the table next to us who let us try his!) I was a little disappointed because they were out of sea urchin that night which I really really wanted to try. Guess that means I'll just have to drag my self back here to try it. If you're going to try this place go during lunch if you can. They have some specials (M-F) that allow you to try lots of rolls without breaking the bank. The food is always fresh and yummy. They have new ownership so they seem more organized than past years. We have been coming here since they opened and glad they finally got some options for lunchtime, with leftovers. read more

Holy cow, we are saved! Being spoiled Californians we were really worried about not finding good sushi when we moved out here (yea, I know how that sounds). Thank goodness for KC and his amazing restaurant. Every roll and sushi we tried was fantastic. The fish (Toro, Yellowtail, Halibut) was fresh and prepared nicely. The rolls (Bruce Lee, KC Special #2, Kamikaze) were well balanced and super yummy. We'll definitely be coming back on a regular basis. Worst customer service ever. They had empty tables and stood waiting for over 15 minutes and never any acknowledgment. We left.

I give it a low score based on the cleanliness where we were seated; however, our food came out quickly and efficiently, and the sushi was very good. The floors were super sticky and our booth was up against the windows in front and the curtains were oddly hanging into the seating space and was right in my sons face. Very odd water glasses too, seemed like acrylic type I buy at Costco every summer. Music was a little random and loud. I would enjoy coming back and sitting at the counter without the kids. Bad hosting. Was told it would be 30-35 min for 2. Waited 45 min. Asked how much longer. We were told we were next on the list and there was two tables checked out and just finishing. Then others were seated before us. Perhaps they had reservations but this wasn't communicated at any point. After waiting over an hour we left. Still haven't received a text from them saying our tables ready. For all they know we're waiting outside. Very, very frustrating. read more

I have been dining here regularly since it opened in 2008. First visit was with a dear friend for my birthday. I was blown away by the variety and freshness. The owners Kasey and Lydia are always welcoming and friendly. They take great pride in all that they do and it is obvious. Anything out of the ordinary is always created with a big smile. They have great off the menu offerings that always delight the palate. Much of the time we do low to no carb and they are anxious to please. The cucumber wrapped rolls without rice are divine. Very seldom do we treat ourselves to dessert but all the choices are worth trying ! No matter where you live in the metroplex...it is well worth the drive. We travel extensively and have had sushi at numberous places. This is by far the Best we have ever had. The Frisco location is warm and cozy and tucked away in a charming town center. We started with Miso soup (broth had good flavor, tofu had good texture), got the Ex-Boyfriend Roll and K.C. Special #2. Everything was good. Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong regardless of what rolls you order. We also saved room for Mochi Ice Cream. The ice cream was peach-flavored and very creamy. Mochi reminds me a little bit of marshmallow--kind of chewy fluffy goodness. They wrapped Mochi around the ice cream, cut it in quarters, stuff some toothpicks in it, and serve it just like that. We had a simple meal at the sushi bar. The service was no better than last time, so very slow. We had tuna, yellow tail, spicy tuna, freshwater eel, and soft shell crab ... water, miso soup and edamane ... $70 ??? for two ???? They had sliced the tuna to cut the tough parts, they should have done that with the yellow tail because it was tough and dry, spicy tuna roll was tiny, the soft shell crab roll was good as was the freshwater eel. Not good enough to bring us back. We have given them two chances and I just don't see it. Everyone talks about the good service, the great sushi, but I just don't get it ... maybe you should expect more for your money, I do !!! read more

My husband and I tried this place out for the first time today and we've found a new sushi go-to! The food was exceptional. My favorite was the Japanese Volcano and my husband liked the 007 the most. We also ordered Japanese Lasagne and a California roll. All four were delicious. The host/server was friendly. The price was fair compared to most other sushi places. It is a small dining room. We weren't there during rush hour, but I can see how it would easily be crowded on a Friday or Saturday night with a wait. Overall a positive experience. If I could rate a ZERO I would! Service was worse than bad. Asked for a high chair for my child nothing, ordered a side of broccoli (which told they could do for my youngest son) and not served with our food. Expect to wait on service for ordering. I had what looked like wood (server claimed was an avocado pit, but know the difference in my sushi which completely ruined my meal and experience. A different serve removed it and apologized and we asked to speak with manager. NO Manager even bothered to step up to our table to apologize!!! The second Server then claimed to take care of some of the items on our check back yet when the check came there was no comped items. Do not go here! Staff is very, very rude. Walked in with the wife was told there were no tables, and that we could go to the sushi bar. Got there and were promptly ignored for 15 mins. When I asked for menus or a drink the staff member looked at me like like I was repo'ing her car. After she came back 7~8 mins later she slammed down sticky menus. That point we got up and just left.
