Last night on 11/13/19 my boyfriend and I arrived to Salt Air where we were graciously greeted by the female assistant GM. She was kind, warm and welcoming. We explained that the following day would be our anniversary and would prefer a more romantic area. She not only provided that for us but, went further by allowing us to choose our table. Within seconds we were greeted by Nathan. Nathan acknowledged our special occasion and remained inventive from start to finish. He took note of my nut allergy and my boyfriend dietary restrictions insuring that we were in safe hands. Nathan spiel displayed an abundance of menu and food knowledge. Each entire he described he highlighted the side pairing and beautifully mentioned how the variety of flavors encouraged the creation of the meal. Nathan is handsome, intelligent, charismatic and an extraordinary server. Little details such as water, mise en place, clearing between course and wine presentation were perfectly attended to throughout our experience. For dessert the entire team arranged a happy anniversary plate to accompany our dessert. That was so special and thoughtful. Nathan has made a lasting impression on us. The decor is very nice and we were seated right away. The food, however, was very disappointing. I had the ceviche but it's nothing like the authentic version (which is soaked in lemon juice). I tasted no lemon juice, and the whole thing was served on a bed of guacamole with some thick sauce on top. The shrimps were cooked and not raw. I ordered the tempura fried soft shell crabs as well. The crabs were so heavily breaded you can barely taste the crabs - it's not tempura style, which is much lighter. The corn that came with it wasn't cooked through. Service was sufficient. Very disappointing. The French fries that came with the shrimp dinner were inedible as testified by the huge pile 3 of us left behind. I asked the waitress what seasonings they used on the fries and she told us just salt and pepper. Perhaps the oil was going bad. Or something else had been friend in the same oil. They didn't even appear to look appetizing. No reputable chef would have permitted those fries to leave the kitchen. The service was just ok, nothing outstanding and we were seated right by the restrooms/wine wall even with a reservation and a request for a window spot. Would not recommend or return to this restaurant. Overrated. read more

Very nice and cozy place! Felt like we were in a country kitchen. We just got appetizers. My wife got the gnocchi which was awesome and I got the mussels which was incredible. The only disappointment was the pork belly. I felt like I was eating a dough ball with some pork stuffed in it. Otherwise I would have given them a 5 star rating. Our waitress was outstanding. Salt Air somehow gets better every year we return. Every summer my family and I make the 20-30 minute drive up from Bethany for a glorious meal here and it never disappoints! This year, our meal and experience was so good we came back two nights in a row! Special shout out to Wren, our fantastic server, who made the evening even more fantastic. We have been coming here for multiple years and the chef has cooked the scallops to perfection on every occasion! I 10/10 recommend this restaurant! The scallops, shrimp and grits, and the swordfish are my top recommendations. Also, don't neglect the crackers and dip, they are worth every calorie. Okay sssooooo this place is so unique adorable and come out with some really great menus. The bartender was our server and made an off menu drink that was delightful. BUT since he was the bartender and our table was a little out of the way we had quite slow service. The food is WOW. just so fresh and tasty with perfect flavor combos. The clams I would 10/10 recommend. Cooked to perfection and flavored with a green curry sauce that was just amazing and unlike any other clams I've tasted. the wings are also amazing. This combo of old bag and chipotle again is so unique and I would have never paired but went together sooooo well. We had the scallops as well but they didn't overly impress me (cooked well but just not as exciting as the other options). One of the best places to eat in the Rehoboth/Dewey beach area! So many restaurants are the same (mediocre new American bars with ocean themes) that this was one of the few that stood out. Food was great mostly. They start you off with free chickpea chips with some sort of cream cheese dip that tastes great. For the main course there were a good amount of vegetarian options. I got the summer squash pasta and maybe I didn't read close enough because I expected it to be actual pasta, not just zucchini noodles, but surprisingly I still really liked it. My family liked both the ceviche and the tuna. For dessert the banana cake was great and the lemon blueberry crème brûlée was fine, though the meringue did not seem to be whipped enough and kind of had the texture of egg whites still. Overall I would come here again. There aren't many good options in this area but this is definitely one of them! read more

Our second visit and generally disappointed. The service was terrible. I had to follow up on specials. Appetizer plates just sat on our table the whole meal and our second drink order was ignored so we just took the check and left. We had reservations yet found ourselves pushed next to a storage closet door (we moved the table out; still stuck next to menu storage so staff constantly dropping menus off over my wife's shoulder.) The pork chop was excellent, but the chicken entree was overcooked. Not my experience but overheard the table next to us remind their server she forgot a drink order and her response was "give me a second." Our experience last year was easily five stars. 9 of us celebrated a friend's birthday. It started very well with a delicious cheese board and a great selection of wine. The vegetarian options are extremely limited. The appetizers were very good, but what a disappointment the entrees were. No one was pleased with the quality of the food except for the person that ordered the mahi mahi. The food was tasteless, bland, boring and watery. Some other plates ended up getting similar reviews. However, we finished dinner with 2 fantastic cakes. The server was not very attentive and it took a very long time before she would come back to take our orders. This led to us sitting at the table for longer than we had wanted. At one point in the evening, the manager had stopped by the table to tell us we had to leave due to another party. This prompted me to speak to the manager privately and explain that we would have left within 1.5 hours had the server been more attentive, and I also explained our displeasure with the entrees. He seemed to brush it off, no apologies, just attitude. I have dined at Salt Air several times, and I routinely take friends, business associates, and dates there because of the quality of the food and the level of service you expect to get at the price point. This was the first time Salt Air failed to check off any of the boxes. I am not saying I will not return, but I am willing to give them another chance. Luckily for me, this was not a business dinner, but a dinner with close friends, or I could have lost face in front of clients. read more

I have been wanting to try this place for quite some time as the exterior and interior ambiance looked inviting. Sorry to say it did not live up to expectations. Service for one was poor. I suspect this is largely due to the current labor shortage and may not be a chronic issue. In fact our waiter was constantly moving. Unfortunately he had at least 10 tables to wait on - this is far too many for any restaurant. Their menu constantly changes, but I have to say on this particular night the food was not great. I had the perogies with pancetta. In a restaurant of this caliber I would expect something unique. What I got was grocery store quality perogies with a 3 bits of pancetta. My wife had the smoked olives. Again when you are paying these prices you would expect some type of accompaniment such as crispy bread, cracker or something to counter the richness of the olives. What we got was a plate of scattered olives that tasted no better than average grocery store quality. For an entrée I had the seafood stew. The broth was actually pretty good. However they were a bit spartan with the fish: 1 shrimp, 1 scallop, 2 muscles, 2 clams, and a few bits of some white fish. All in all just OK. My wife got the house special fried shrimp. Again as this was the house special in a nice restaurant, I would have expected some excellent large shrimp in a unique flavorful batter. What she got was something you could have had at long john silvers. It came with far too many French fries all of which were undercooked, greasy, and cold. In short, you can do much better for the money in Rehoboth. I do hope this was an aberration due to current labor issues, and that this restaurant regains it's former glory. read more

Had a mostly great experience at Salt Air last week for my boyfriend's birthday. The food was absolutely delicious-we haven't stopped talking about the life changing cornbread, and my mouth has started watering every time I see a cherry tomato after they were featured with my steak. Joe, our server, was extremely attentive and personable, and the service had a very comfortable flow. My only negative experience was with the bar. My boyfriend is a professional bartender, and we both enjoy trying interesting cocktails when we visit new restaurants. Both of our drinks were not mixed when we received them. My first sip was nothing but a mouthful of gin. I had to mix my own drink and muddle the fruit with my dinner fork. For a cocktail that cost approximately $15 I would expect better craftsmanship. read more
