I debated about whether to rate this experience 3 or 4 stars. We had a party of seven and they seated us relatively quickly considering how busy they were. The good: We loved the atmosphere, the food was all great, and the portions were substantial for the pricing. The bad: The service! Our waitress was a young girl with a cute personality but she had a hard time keeping up and the restaurant was understaffed. One order was incorrect and we were left waterless for too long. I chose to score them a 4 star rating because the good things definitely outweighed the negatives in this case. One of my favorite places to eat when I'm in Bluffton! The servers are ALWAYS so nice, and do a great job. By far one of the only restaurants I know that actually have exceptional waiters/ waitresses every time I come here! The calamari is one of my favorite appetizers, and I thoroughly enjoy the fried shrimp po boy as my meal. The always have a in season fish so just ask. That fish is also usually a part of their dinner special so you should definitely check out their specials too. I wish we had this place in California! :( read more

Highly recommend this place to eat. The hush puppies and mahi-mahi bites were great. The buffalo chicken sandwich was big enough for 2 and the chicken was very flavorful and juicy. The Baja fish tacos and the fish and chips were excellent. The special chef recommended salad was good but the presentation was not what I expected. See the attached picture. I have being going to the Saltydog Restaurants since the early 2000's. It should be noted I have lived in Ireland and traveled all over the world. I certainly know a great restaurant due to all my travels all over the globe. I can quite honestly say the Salty Dog Restaurants both in South Beach Marina and the newest one at the Tanger outlet lived up to my high expectations of great Restaurants. I stopped off at the Salty Dog in Bluffton during the last week of December. Upon entering we were greeted and seated to our table. I ended up ordering a burger&fries. It was perfect and tasted exactly as the Burgers I experienced many times down at South Beach Marina on Hilton Head Island. Our waitress Meagan was outstanding and checked on our table and provided outstanding customer service. Really great to see someone take great pride in their job. The Manager on duty also checked on our table. To finish off my meal I ended up ordering the Key-lime Pie. It was absolutely delicious and I highly recommend. The restaurant is very clean and has really great tables. It should be noted they also have a great bar also. If you are visiting the Beaufort, Savannah, Bluffton and Hilton Head Island areas I highly recommend Salty Dog Cafe. Lastly if you have a loved one Graduating from Parris Island, I can not think of a better place to celebrate the new Marines Career. The Restaurant certainly rates Five Stars and more. I've been to Salty Dog Bluffton a few times now and the experience has always been the same. The food is mediocre at best and the atmosphere doesn't really say anything about what Salty Dog is or what it means to be dining in the Hilton Head Island area for being a local restaurant. The menu isn't priced too far from what I'd expect but the quality of the food just isn't there. I've never seen it busy around dinner time so I take it that this is more of a lunch gathering place than a dinner gathering place. Quite honestly, I expect more from Salty Dog than what is being delivered in Bluffton. I think this location has a lot to learn from some of the other locations on the South end before I could give more than a 2 star rating. On a more positive note, the service is decent and they serve their food quickly which is nice for when you're not wanting to stay out all night. read more

When I noticed a patron of another restaurant wearing a Salty Dog branded tank top, I remembered it was one of those must-do places while in town. The establishment is conveniently located at Tanger Outlet 2. We shopped a bit then went to Salty Dog for lunch/dinner. We (party of 2) were seated right away, no wait. Our server was very sweet and attentive. The Buffalo Shrimp and Fried Flounder Sandwich were fantastic! I never saw a fish sandwich made with bacon and cheese before and it made all the difference. It was not over-the-top salty, just lots of flavor. On the other hand, the hush puppies and Crab Cake Sandwich were underwhelming. Their hush puppies tasted like a sweet pancake which was not quite what I expected. The Crab Cake Sandwich was bland, with the brioche bun overriding the crab meat. It would've been greatly enhanced had they also offered it with cheese and bacon. Now that I know what I like from this place, I would definitely visit again. read more

50/50 shot is what you get here. After coming for years and supporting this business for years, I am over wasting my money and being apprehensive about my visit. I have eaten here countless times and it is just a shot in the dark of whether my food will be tasty or make me or my guest sick later on. The food is pretty good, when the cooks want to actually make it right. I have had almost everything on the menu at some point. The amount of friends and family I have brought in and have made them try their food. I might as well work here because I can quote the menu. I always bring people to show off "where I live" and I love supporting local brands. However, some times the food is over cook, sometimes the food is undercooked, and sometimes it is just right. For the prices you pay for basic food, you would think the food would match up. The staff is hit or miss as well. I have had staff check on me every five minutes and I have had staff only to give me one drink, my food, and the bill. I have noticed over the past couple of years they have a rather noticeable turn over as well. Every time I come in it seems to have completely different staff and when I ask for certain associates who I loved, I always hear, "She/ he is no longer here". Maybe because of the age group of associates or maybe something else perhaps?! All in all, if you are shopping the outlets and need some food, sure stop on in (not like you have another option unless you want ice cream, pretzels, or a pastry from the other choices". Might want to avoid if you have Covid concerns since they are sitting everyone next to each other even though they have plenty of open tables We first wanted to sit outside but the hostess couldn't decide or figure out if we would be able to sit outside since the server might or might not be going on break.
