So happy I chose this place. Had a 5 o'clock dinner on a Tuesday night while attending a conference. The server greeted us right away and no wait to be seated. Had drinks and dinner ordered within the first 5-10 minutes. Very cute classy aesthetic. As we ate dinner the place filled up quickly, I could tell it was a favorite spot in downtown Burlingame. Our server checked on us several times and kept our water glasses full. I ordered the seafood linguine with a blood orange martini and my friend ordered the sliders with truffle fries. We both enjoyed our meal choice. I particularly liked the spiciness of my pasta dish. For dessert- strawberry cheesecake. Super creamy and delicious. Reasonably priced menu. Christmas dinner was delightful. Four of us enjoyed a Christmas dinner and were so pleased with the quality of the food, the warm and friendly service and of course the lovely way the restaurant was decorated for Christmas. Excellent food in a very nice & welcoming environment & very good service. Recommend the whole sea bass which was perfectly cooked with a generous side of grilled asparagus & crispy wedges of potatoes. The beet salad is also very good, with many thick slices of beets and lightly dressed salad greens which was mostly arugula. Appetizer of crab cakes comes in a pair, with a side of salad. Side of brussel sprouts served with an aioli sauce was tasty, crispy and perfect for sharing. The mushroom ravioli in a cream sauce was also in a generous portion and so good that even one of our dining companions who doesn't normally like mushrooms enjoyed it. Desserts are very good too. We enjoyed the crème brûlée and they offer coffee and espresso drinks. It was my husband's birthday and they were kind to remember that in my reservation notes and gave him a complimentary orange sorbet for dessert with a candle. Very nice. We will be back! read more

Been here several times for work dinners. 5 stars for service; the waitress is definitive in her recommendations and helpful. The food I have always thought was mediocre, until I recently tried their skirt steak and was blown away by how sweet and savory it was. The service is friendly and attentive. Having had a meal before, I only ordered the Brussels sprouts. WOW! So delicious! Yummy and crispy. The serving was so generous. DB ordered the risotto which was INSANELY DELICIOUS. It was rich and creamy and loaded with seafood, spinach and sundried tomatoes. I would definitely order it before. SIL ordered the crabcakes which were disappointingly fishy, so I would avoid those. It was an enjoyable meal with good service in a dark bistro. I would come again. read more

I arrived around 930ish I know that the restaurant closes at 10pm I knew I was a Time crunch. My first impressions was wonderful the staff was friendly, smiling and very attentive. The the interior was dimly lit and warm. My first concern was that my appetizers came out at the same time as my main dish. I did feel like just a 5 minute respite would of been ideal and made my meal more enjoyable. The waiter mentioned that the chef had to leave. I've worked in the restaurant industry if you close at 10pm if someone comes in at 950 you offer them the same service and attention if they arrived 10 minutes after opening. My lamb dis was superb delicious and well seasoned. The appetizers was very good a precise balance of salt amd flavor, its hard to master working with capers too much and you can ruin the dish and it would be overly salty.My main issue with the whole meal was my dates fish, the fish tasted ok and was moist but that salad was horrible. It wasn't even dressed. Maybe alittle olive oil and salt maybe a tomato or cumber, maybe asking if we want something on the salad . And those carrots common... like they were passed through a cheese grater and put on top look at the picture. For the price point we paid we atlease deserved an actual salad to accompany that delicious fish. They felt short there. I also want to acknowledge the waitstaff they are the reason it's 4 stars not 3.... they smiled joked around ... worked extremely hard and even upsold me the last minute for desert lol . I wish the greens/burrata was seasoned just a bit. Bruschetta - really savory and delicious. Loved the mushrooms. Seafood linguini - I loved this. The pasta was just right and there was loads of shellfish including little scallops. I thought all the seafood was cooked really well, nothing overdone. Braised lamb - this has beautiful flavor but we thought it was a bit dry and the cartilage had not dissolved enough. We made reservations well in advance and when we got there the SaltYard was busy. I walked up to the checkin desk and said I had reservations for 6 people at 7:00PM. The women said the wait is 25 to 40minutes. I asked, but I have reservations. She said "everyone does!" I walked down the street and fortunately found a very pleasant restaurant that went out of there way to make room for our party of 6 people, 77th birthday. Out of courtesy, I walked back to the SaltYard and told the women at the check in desk that we found another restaurant that would seat us right away. She replied "I'm sorry you feel that way." Which I then replied, "Yes, because you don't honor your guests with reservations." We'll definitely not be going to the Salt Yard again. We go out to eat very often. After meandering this area several times and constantly discussing within ourselves that we need to try this restaurant for over 2 years. After a 20 mile run on a toasty Saturday morning and afternoon, we decided to stop by for a meal. The furniture is sleek and cozy. I also discovered all the small lamps placed on each lamp is activated at different brightnesses by touch. We ordered the Truffle Mushroom Ravioli and my partner ordered the Bolognese and Mashed Potatoes. The servers provided top notch service and every single bite released strong, exuberant flavors. The truffle mushroom ravioli is best to consume each ravioli and have a palate cleanser with water (at least from my experience, otherwise it became a bit challenging to taste the truffle). The bolognese had the classic spaghetti taste with extra helpings of meaty taste coming from each bite. The buratta was so fluffy and balanced the meat taste. Meanwhile the mashed potatoes was so creamy and light. It is one of the top italian restaurants I have had outside of Italy. read more

We started off with a few appetizers: truffle fries, beef spring rolls, and burrata. The fries were good, but it was more so truffle salt or oil on top, I do love that they were steak fries. The burrata was tasty- I mean, can you really go wrong with burrata? I liked the fig jam and pistachio pairing but just wish they served you more soft grilled bread because for an entire ball of burrata four pieces is not enough. The beef spring rolls were a little bland and could've used more flavor or salt, along with the horseradish aioli. The beef bolognese and the whole seabass could've used more salt. They both were very bland and with just a little bit more seasoning, could've been very delicious. The seabass itself was herbaceous but still lacking salt so thank goodness for the table salt being there otherwise I would've sadly sent it back. We also ordered espresso martinis which were very delicious. They had the right amount of espresso liquor, cream and foam with espresso beans. Would go back for these alone. read more

The meatballs were tender and delicious. They gave us warm bread and it was perfect for sopping up the sauce. My friends cioppino was a bowl of tomato sauce with very little seafood. The cheese bread was burnt. They did not offer to take the lamb off of the bill. The only good thing was the pudding desert. Service was fine, but would've expected a little more interaction given we were one of two tables for the first half of our stay. They serve fresh bread with olive oil and balsamic- it was a soft focaccia. Kale and Quinoa salad was full of fresh colorful ingredients. I would've opted for a different dressing though than a greasy thai chili oil. Came to Saltyard and left full and merry! The only request from my coworkers was to find a place near work that had a full bar - yeah, that kind of year end dinner, hah. A couple options came to mind but the only option none of us had ever tried was Saltyard so we decided on this adventure. We began the meal with a couple appetizers - the calamari and the burrata salad. Both were really tasty! I especially liked that the calamari also featured fried artichoke quarters because I love artichokes! The burrata was generous and pairing it with arugula and tomatoes is classic! Some of the crostinis were grilled a little hard though and gave an unpleasant taste on some bites. For my entree, I went with the risotto and OMG you have to order it! EVERY bite was guaranteed to have seafood. The mix of chopped tiger shrimp, bay scallops, and baby shrimp was sweet and just briny enough to provided a nice kiss to the ocean. The rice was also cooked perfectly in a tomato-y seafood broth that was also very tasty! My coworkers also seemed to enjoy their choices as all the choices disappeared without reservations. We had a mix of the sea bass, salmon, and rib eyes on the table. We had more than our fair share of drinks over dinner and Saltyard definitely provides some generous pours. Had high expectations for this restaurant, had heard so much about it. It was quite bad. Terrible service and bad food. 1. I have a dairy allergy. The server was super confused, I had to keep double checking, he just wasn't sure what had dairy or not, even after checking with the kitchen?! 2. The beef carpaccio was watery and bland. The capers tasted bad. And then it had like a plateful of underdressed arugula on top, not sure why they had so much of it, it literally covered the entire plate, an inch high. 2. The Brussels sprouts were deep fried and underdressed again, less salt and no balsamic etc. Server didn't know if the aioli had dairy, so I couldn't try it. 3. The strip steak was the worst steak I've ever had. To start off, it was super sweet, not in a good way. The fries were fine, the vegetables were boiled and had no taste. 4. Very classy yet has a casual and cozy feel serving comfort food. They have an extensive menu with good appetizers like their bomb truffle fries and fried calamari with artichokes. Their beet salad is always a hit. Good entrees could use a little bit more flavor and kick. The lamb was a bit bland. The mushroom ravioli was good but lacked that oomph. Bolognese and Sea Bass were good but I've had better. Desserts though were amazing. The tiramisu, sticky toffee pudding and crème brûlée were all pretty good. Though the entrees could use a bit more pepping up. I came here for a quick meal one evening because I was in the mood for a burger with table service - the choices for that being particularly slim in downtown Burlingame, I thought I'd give this place a try. Sadly, their chef doesn't seem to be able to make a proper burger to order, as my medium burger ended up solidly well done. I would have just sent it back, as frustrating and annoying as that is to do, but didn't for two reasons, the first of course, as I said, I was looking for a "quick" meal, and the second was because I was more than halfway finished with the burger by the time anyone bothered to check on me. After pointing out to the server that my burger was overdone (which he agreed it was) he offered to replace it, but I declined for the reasons I already stated. Then he asked me if I would like another drink, and I, thinking he was offering it to me comped, in consideration of my overcooked burger, accepted. When he brought me the check, there was the charge for the second drink as well. Not a great first experience here. We just moved to the area and dine out fairly frequently, and it will be a long time before I think about coming back here. The cocktail was good though, which is the only reason for the second star. Editing to add that the women's bathroom was disgusting. The sink had obvious mold/bacteria growth along the backsplash, around the faucet, in the corners of the sink. And the soap dispenser didn't work very well. It took a dozen attempts to get a decent amount of soap. read more

I don't like fruit on my chocolate cake. He abruptly said no, took out menus, and left. When the desserts came out...there was fruit on my plate. The chocolate cake was terrible. It just tasted like hot sponge. I took one bite and didn't touch it again. The sticky cake was bland as well. But, the gelato was very good. The waiter himself had zero personality. My friend had three meals that she wanted to pick from. She asked the waiter ..out of the three meals what he thought was good..all three she chose were seafood.. his reply was.. "I like meat". And that was it...then she asked.. " well which one is popular amongst your customers?" And he could not respond. Ask for the drinks, my husband had old-fashions, and the other two had dirty martinis ...they all said the drinks were delicious. I was really disappointed in the ribeye and the desserts.
