I went there for my first time on a Saturday night with my best friend. We saw online that they had pictures for $18. So we were sold. The bartenders were really nice. The only suggestion I have is to place a little notation on gluten-free food. Since the bartenders do not know. Luckily the bartenders were able to accommodate us. I did witness an atrocity by a group of patrons Karissa G (see below) that burraded some manager, Megan I think, for some minuscule misunderstanding on their part. This place is kind of overwhelmingly busy with a lot of young college people on a Sunday. As we entered, it was poppin! loud music and not much seating available. We saw the bar and tables nearby completely filled, and some couch seats still available; we didn't really know who worked there because the servers blended in with the young crowd. As we found a server, we asked her where should we sit? She replied that we can sit anywhere and a server will come to us. We got uneasy because how do they keep track? When we got to bar they let in about five people with foreign IDs. And then all of a sudden they start denying IDs from other countries saying "we need passports". That's fine, but why did you let in others with foreign IDs. I started ask questions and got kicked out for no reason. I am a USA citizen and got kicked out without an explanation. We've been coming to Delray for a decade and this place is pretty much the only option for a drink right off the beach...it is what it is, great location, decent drink specials and kinda fun setup, cornhole etc. but horrible food and even worse service by half naked, rude children. We walked in on a Monday, found empty seats at a bar rail and were about to sit down and spend our usual $150 when one of said adolescents came by and said "sorry y'all, those seats are taken," and kept walking. No one was around. No sign of anyone who had claimed the spots, no offer of "but let me see what else we've got" or other explanation or offer of service of any kind. We waited a bit to see who the mystery customers were. No one. Bar was full and the place was marginally busy but not full by any stretch of the imagination. This place has tanked. I have been here several times but have yet to write a review. The service here is never consistent so know that when you come you will either have a really nice waitress or a little witch. Yesterday our waitress, Ashley R. was fine until she brought back our change. We gave her $20 bill on a $14.84 check ... she returned a $5 bill (no .16 cents) /no singles. So I walk up to the bar and she is there. I ask her for singles and she says she has none and that I need to get it from the bar. A manager sees this and says to her that she needs to get the money from the bar for me. She refuses so he takes my money and gets me change. I let him know she was my waitress. He was extremely nice and was in agreement with me. I'm sorry Ashley R., but bringing over two waters, taking my one salad order and bringing the check does not entitle you to a tip of almost 40%. You may pull this stunt with other patrons thinking they are too lazy to get up and be bothered with getting proper change and are probably successful, but you shouldn't assume that. Not everyone is that dumb to your trick. Nice try though. I get back to my table and I didn't even want to tip her but left $2.... Well she actually made $2.16. I don't care about the .16 but it's the principle. I don't know if it was her or the establishment but that's stealing. Perhaps when I paid the bill I should have shorted them .16. It just bothers me. What if they did that to every bill that day? It must add up. Regardless of the amount, it's wrong. I used to like the food here as a quick bite off the beach, but it was sloppy. The ambiance and location of the Sandbar were great, and it's located in a prime spot, just a few steps away from the beach making it a nice place to hang. But the food is mediocre, at best, and the service was pretty bad. The waitresses are clearly overworked and overwhelmed. I asked about the price of a lobster roll and was told it was $11. I told the girl if it was $11, I'd do it & my roll came out soon thereafter. It was some chunks of lobster on a burnt piece of bread - no sauce or garnish - and it was completely underwhelming. When my check came, the roll was on there for $21. I brought it to the girl's attention and she said the manager probably wouldn't do anything about it. This shocked me a little, honestly. Very poor form. When she returned from talking to her manager, I still had to pay the full amount of the bill and she gave me $10 of her own money to cover the difference. It was clearly on the manager to handle this discrepancy, and he/she should have settled the matter with the waitress if they wanted her to cover the difference. I had expected my check to be adjusted accordingly and thought it was an incredibly tacky way for the manager to handle the situation. I felt badly for the waitress, but because she never came back to tell me the correct price of the roll after I ordered it, I took the cash. After all, it was almost double the price, and I felt cheated. Suffice to say, I don't think I'll be returning there any time soon.
