Finally got a chance to try this place today!! It's been on my list due to all the great things I hear. Safe to say, all things heard -- are absolutely true. Right when my sister and I walked in, we felt SO welcomed. My sister ordered a tofu banh mi and I ordered the house special sandwich. We both killed the entire sandwich in one sitting (usually we eat half and save the rest for later). Their pate is sooooo good and the ingredients tasted incredibly fresh. The bread didn't taste like your usual baguette bread. It had a lighter crunch, and it felt very soft at the same time. It's different from your usual banh mi chain places, which I like. It was good different. The wonderful owners offered us some freshly brewed jasmine tea and surprised us with some cupcakes at the end. My friend and I drove from LA to visit this spot so I can taste of an authentic banh mi that apparently has Maggie seasoning, legit baguette and what my friend swears is a magic mayo like no other. She paid for my beef banh mi and she wasn't kidding about the meat... "Extra" meat yet it was only one tightly packed layer of meat. The price was rather steep for the value. The flavor was just okay, in my opinion. I wasn't expecting the beef to be prepared this way since I'm used to the meat slightly marinated like how Banh Mi My Tho (SGV) does it. I've come to the conclusion that this just wasn't my cup of tea. On the other hand, the owner of the shop is extremely likable! He gives you tea as you wait outside for your order. It's very rare I feel a place truly deserves its 5 star Yelp rating, so I say without hesitation: Sandwich House absolutely deserves the 5 stars. First off, note that there are no indoor or outdoor seats. Not only does this place sell amazing sandwiches, they also double up as a small snack shop too. Note that they have a transparent sign saying that customers will get charged extra for using card (some restaurants don't even warn you of this). The owner was very welcoming and advised us that their house special was their most popular sandwich. I got a croissant house special with a hot green milk tea which cost me $19.75 in total. The owner gave both my crony and I a free dessert and normal iced tea since it was our first time there. He also told us that since we're customers that we can park as long as we want in his parking slots (he told us that other owners in the plaza complain if this customers park in front of their stores). On our trip to Soak City, my husband and I decided to grab some banh mi for our adventures and I found this spot. When I entered the man behind the counter was very sweet. He asked if Ive ever been there before and I said no, so he told me the house combo was very popular. I ordered that (its #1), a #4 and #5....I dont remember what 4 and 5 are, but they were delicious.... I think they were Beef and Chicken. Both of my daughters loved them! WE loved them!! We should have bought more sandwiches because these went so quickly between the 5 of us...and the kids ate the majority of them, my husband and I had to buy food at Soak City. Anyways, the man was so nice, he brought me jasmine tea to my car while I waited, and he brought our food to the car too. He told me that next time, I should call ahead and pick up the food. Believe me when I say, we will. We have season passes to Knotts/Soak City and will stop by here before each trip. The sandwiches were delicious!!! Tucked away in the back of a strip mall across from Cypress College. :) The service was great, it's a family owned shop, and the owner was beyond friendly and gracious. The ambiance is that of a small banh mi shop - lots of other random food and snacks on the shelves as well - he threw in some cake for us to try as well as a thank you for waiting. The sandwiches are proper, soft French bread, fresh quality greens, and proper meats! The one caveat that I'll give is that next time I -will- be calling ahead as it was about a ~20 minute wait. The French roll was a perfect balance between crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the croissant was delicious and well held together with many toothpicks. I personally liked the addition of an egg and bell peppers in both! For drinks (also not pictured because I drank it all quickly), we got the Vietnamese iced coffee with condensed milk and it kept me well caffeinated throughout the day!
