Terrific local place for quality Mexican food. Fresh ingredients and friendly service. Pam has owned this place a long time and has really instilled a tradition of quality and service in all of her employees. Go in early for a great breakfast burrito. If they have the ingredients, they will definitely "make it your way". My favorite is a pretty healthy breakfast burrito, I made it up myself with the ingredients they have: Egg whites, black beans, cabbage, onions, cilantro and avocado. The owner Pam should call this the Steve Burrito! Or the Esteban Burrito. Either way, do yourself a favor and visit this great local restaurant. I love my little secret spot you could say. Their customer service is awesome lately and I love it! I am always going there to fix my craving for their Fajita Burrito. Doesn't that just sound yummy? I love their salsa as well and that it's easy for people to just go and get for themselves. It is always clean around that area too. They just added in a new coffee bar and I am in love with their Oreo smoothies. And if you constantly go there like I do, you will be recognized! Two items I'd recommend from Sante Fe: Taco I believe there's just one taco on their menu but you can choose any kind of meat. What really makes these tacos unique is the coat of parmesan cheese on the outside of the tortilla, not to mention the tortilla itself is perfectly crispy. Fajita Burrito Santa Fe has a huge selection of burritos; the Fajita one is my favorite. Tons of peppers, onions, and sauce make this a spicy and messy burrito. read more

First of all, please do not see my 1-star rating and think that I'm just an angry customer. I ate here a couple years ago with some co-workers and thought the food was awful. I decided to be fair and give it another chance last week. I ordered the Jose Burrito--whose name should've been a clue that the food would taste awful. It was $8.00 (way overpriced). I ordered that, a soda, and salsa and jalapenos from the salsa bar. When I unwrapped the burrito, I immediately noticed a stench (a slight one, but one nonetheless). Either the rice or meat was rotten) The meat was also dry and tasteless. Simply a dull and stale burrito. It looked like if it had been sitting for days. The included chips were also stale and greasy. Onto the Jalapenos/carrots/onions mix from the salsa bar. It reeked of mildew-water. I suspect they were cleaning their salsa bar containers/utensils with dirty dish rags. Simply disgusting. I felt embarrassed for the people eating here, they should not think this food in any way is representative of Mexican food. I do not understand some of the good reviews here. I am passionate about Mexican food and I know exactly what I am talking about. I would love to sit down with anyone here who thinks this food is good and eat together at the same time. Totally underrated. I'm surprised more people don't know about this place- it's just too far up Las Virgenes. Their shrimp tacos and burritos are amazing. The tacos have a parmesan crusted shell- amazing. But the best kept secret, imo, is the breakfast burrito. Get that with plenty of salsa- you're set. read more

We've been going to Santa Fe Cafe for years. It's a great hole in the wall pick up spot. Chicken tacos are delicious! So are tostadas.

Santa Fe USED to be sooooo good.... With the newer owners, quality has gone down hill. I used to love their tacos! But the ones I got this weekend were less than fantastic, cold, and flavorless. I've been a customer here for over 10 years and over the years the quality of the food has gone down. Today was the worst experience I've had coming here. The Hispanic woman who took my order gave me attitude and was very rude to me for no reason. I asked for extra cheese on my taco and I was charged $2 extra for each taco (I got 3 in total). I was told I'd be charged $2 for each taco after I had already paid for my meal. I also purchased a can of Arizona iced tea. When I asked for a separate cup of ice for the Arizona iced tea, I was told I'd be charged. This is unacceptable considering I already purchased the Arizona iced tea. The food I ordered seemed like it's been sitting out for a while; not fresh at all. I will never be coming back to Santa Fe cafe. They do not treat their customers right and the quality of the food is not as good as it used to be. read more

Stuck in a small strip mall that you'd only know existed if you lived in the area, Santa Fe Cafe is pretty basic as far as atmosphere goes. While I was hopeful to see a decent crowd present on a Sunday morning, I'm actually surprised that they're able to stay in business with such a poor location. However, my server was extremely friendly and had my burrito out in no more than five minutes. Star Granted. Star 2 - How were the portions relative to the cost? "Hm... $6.50 for a breakfast burrito? That's not bad I suppo... wait what? It's $1.50 extra if I want to add meat?! My total is $8.48?!?" No. no. no. no. I'm sorry, sure, Calabasas is a bit on the expensive side sure, but a day after visiting Santa Fe Cafe I was able to get a decent-sized breakfast burrito of greater quality and greater quantity for $8.64 at Howdy's, and that's MALIBU. This is a crappy strip mall... in Calabasas. Additionally, not only was my burrito underwhelming for having paid $8.50, but $1+ extra got me what must have been no more than 30g of sausage. What a joke. No Star Granted. Stars 3/4 - How was the food? As I've said countless times before, a breakfast burrito is near impossible to screw up, but as a result it's arguably more difficult to dish up a good one. In the case of Santa Fe Cafe, I spotted a red-flag even before I ordered in the form of a dreaded salsa bar. More often than not, I've found that if a Mexican place has a self-serve salsa bar, they often try and get away with mediocre offerings in hopes that customers will simply drown everything in salsa. As it turns out, Santa Fe Cafe was no exception. Besides the disappointing size of my burrito and the absurdly small quantity of sausage that I paid more than $1 extra for, there were too little hash browns, and a majority of the burrito consisted of runny eggs and a bit of cheese. I don't think I've ever denied Stars 3 and 4 after ordering a breakfast burrito, but there's a first for everything I guess. Disappointing, especially having paid $8.48. No Stars Granted. Star 5 - Would you eat it every day if you could? Unless Santa Fe Cafe drastically lowers their prices or drastically increases their portions, there is absolutely no reason you should go out of your way (and you'd need to) to pay a visit. Santa Fe Cafe - Sausage Breakfast Burrito - Tex-Mex Near Me - Calabasas, California

A conversation at work about tacocopters led one of my colleagues to suggest lunch at Santa Fe Cafe aka "the taco place on the other side of the 101." I ordered a chicken taco & a beef taco, with parmesan encrusted tortillas. The parmesan on the tortillas were an interesting twist on regular tortillas. I say "interesting" because I'm not sure if I like them that way. The meat was not overly greasy and they had a few different salsas to choose from at the salsa bar. Overall, a solid three star taco place. No ambiance, service was bleh & chips were slightly stale. The good news is that I didn't get sick after eating here. Santa Fe Cafe is a no frills but delicious place. I'm the type that loves hole-in-the-wall type places and i find Santa Fe Cafe to be just that. The Taos Tacos are amazing. Hard shelled tacos with parmesan cheese on the outside...i have never seen such a beautiful, tasty thing anywhere else! My boyfriend loves loves loves the BBQ Chicken quesadilla, so i'll rave about that for him. I've also heard the breakfast burritos here are good too. Bland, overpriced, and nothing special. I want this place to be good. I really do. I work nearby and stop by Santa Fe Café for lunch about once a month or so, but each time I'm a little disappointed. I really want it to have the taste of an authentic taco shop, but for some reason they can't close that gap. As a common denominator, a simple bean and cheese burrito and a simple taco is a good barometer. If you can't beat Sharkey's, La Salsa, or Baja Fresh in these areas AND your prices are extremely high, there's a problem. It was good. I got their main Grande burrito since they said it's their best seller. It has lettuce in it. Eh. Lettuce to me is cheating. Then I've tried burritos, tacos, quesadillas, fajitas from other restaurants in LA as well, and now I can say that definitely this place is one of the best!!!! Food is always so fresh and tastes great, I moved from Calabasas and can't visit the cafe often enough, but when I'm there, it's a great pleasure to get some amazing food and enjoy!!! The chicken crunchy tacos are bomb, the tostada salad and burritos are great. They have the best crushed ice that goes really well with a cold soda. Love this place. Overpriced, but probably because they don't get a lot of traffic since it's in such a hidden, out-of-the-way spot. It's actually one of the only Mexican places in the valley that has chicken with some flavor; the char definitely comes through. Enchiladas are tasty, albeit small. The nachos are great and always satisfy my craving. Flautas are on point. Probably the best thing here though is the quesdaillas. The trick is getting the guacamole on the inside. Chicken or steak, it's always a homerun. Also remember to get the fries! It also comes with a side of rice and beans and a side salad. The rice has always had a funny taste to me. The beans aren't bad, and the side salad is iceberg lettuce with dressing. I also enjoy their burritos. Big and tasty. They also have a salsa bar which is really good. The ambience... well, it's in a strip mall and it's definitely fast food with tables to sit down.
