This place deserves less than a 1 rating if that was an option. They have no sense of customer service, they run their business on a fake model of trying to get you seated as you arrive but actually do what they please. We were there this morning and a table for 2 was needed. They do not have a specific table for two, so they would typically seat you on a booth. They had two booths open, but they decided to give it to people who came after us and when asked the guy said because they were a party of 3. What kind of logic is that ? We immediately left the place and I later called the restaurant to speak to the manager. Ironically the manager was the one who had come and decided the table should be given to people after us. The manager Purushottam on the phone, was the most rude person I have ever come across. He had no courtesy that they were doing all that while seating people, instead he says he doesn't want to talk to random people in the morning. The place sucks, service is even worse. Do yourself a favor and go a couple blocks further to another place where they treat people well. One word DISGUSTING for this place ! read more

I'd give this 2.5 maybe, but it was closer to 2 than 3. The dosa was okay. We didn't find it very special. It was good but not great. The chutneys were on point and the saving grace!! The tomato chutney was sooo yummy and the only reason I would consider rating slightly above 2. Sambhar was good. I got the paneer biryani and was highly disappointed. This was our second time with this restaurant. The first time was much before the Pandemic and this time was a delivery. We ordered the Sarvana Special Meal and a Idly Vada Combo. When asked for why there is a difference, the person (seemed like the manager) at the register casually ignored the point stating the price from website have changed this year! Overall I had a very average experience here. I came with family and we sat in a corner booth. The lady quickly came to take our order and took our order for Appetizers, and the meal. Within 5 minutes they came back and said they were out of appetizers (at 7:15PM). This is the third time this has happened to us so it seems a lack of appetizers is a common issue. Some times this place will either have you wait long for your food or have it in a flash. ITs a hit or miss depends on how bisy and this place can get super busy. But the food is consistent, everything taste the same to me when it comes to the chutneys and curries but atleast everything has such good flavor! I always get the RAVA MASALA DOSA, its so satisfying, crispy edges with savory potato filling and those chutneys, and sambar, i luv a good sampler. I had lunch here today with an Indian friend/coworker and some other very American coworkers - we were the only non-Indians in the whole place (and it was packed) - that's a good sign. We started off with Gobi 65, an outstanding spicy, battered and fried cauliflower that had been cut into very manageable pieces; if you didn't know better, you might have thought it was buffalo popcorn chicken. The cauliflower struck a great balance between firm and tender, and the spice was just right. I could totally see eating this as a snack while watching football or at a party. For my main dish, I ordered the "special", which nets you a large diameter deep stainless steel platter with a number of small bowls inside. In the center is a large bowl of rice, and it's finished off with a good size puris and another bread, papad, that reminded me of Munchos, if you're old enough to remember those. As for the sauces in the little dishes, they included rasam, sambar, kootu, poriyal and koorma. Also present was some thick yogurt curd and raita, a thinner yogurt with cucumber. The kootu, a thicker dish made with lentils, was probably my favorite; it had a good spice and hearty flavor. Several of them were quite spicy, but none of them would take your head off, either. Finally, there was a sweet dish of sooji halwa, like a sweetened cream of wheat. I'm certainly not an Indian food expert, but I could tell that these were very good quality dishes, and the room full of Indian diners seem to support the notion that good things are happening here. I'll definitely be back to try some other dishes; the biryani, for example, was delicious (I just had a forkful from a fellow diner). This place is popping on a Saturday night. They had lines out the door. However, we got seated pretty quickly. There were two waiters attending us and they both came in at different times to check if we were ready to order. Their service is fast once you put in your order. You can see the kitchen from your table and all of the food looks mouthwatering! I ordered their special meal and substituted the rice for chapati. It comes with a bunch of side dishes, curries, pickle, yogurt and two types of dessert. My husband ordered a cheese masala dosa and he said it was great, especially the tomato chutney that came with it, it's the star of the dish! We got paneer chilli as well as a starter and it was good too. Ended the meal with a strong cup of filter coffee. It was really good but a bit pricy, about 4.50$ for a tiny cup of coffee, pretty close to my Starbucks order for a matcha latte. Our group of 14 ladies went to Saravanabhavan, Plano recently. We expected to have a good South Indian lunch and most of us ordered the Thali meals. To our horror, the thali meal was very very mediocre, The curries did not have any vegetables and every thing was very watery liquid and tasteless. The restaurant was over crowded and not at all clean. We paid a total of $20 which included tax etc. And it was a shear waste of money. Our first time having vegetarian Indian food. I cannot say exactly what we ordered, but I do know that 4 of the 5 of us really enjoyed the food that we did order. Their menu is very descriptive, and I am sure it helped to have friends with us that could explain the menu if our waitress was not available to do so. Lots of food and it the various curries change each time you come. The food is hot and tasty. THIS RESTAURANT IS VEGETARIAN so do not expect to get any types of meat curries. Unprofessional, have no clue what they are doing or how to have proper etiquettes with customers. No professional system to seat or have people to wait especially for families there with little kids. Food was horrible. Not the south indian love and taste you expect to get from supposidy a huge chain that's supposed to be famous for its flavor and experience. Other views will say the same and over this pandemic I've learned one thing that there are a low more worthy places that do so much better job that are more deserving to be supported then places like this. But the Saravana Bhavan at Plano, Texas is one utter waste place to visit. Seems to be there is a limitation on take out order in terms of dollar amount and your take out order will not be taken. Finally ate here after meaning to come for a while. First of all, the seating system is a little chaotic for the first time visitor. There is a sheet of paper lying on a random ledge that you're to write your name in. The restaurant was busy on this Saturday night and the majority of the diners were Indian, which is a sign that the food is authentic. We ordered the Special thali with poori for ourselves and the masala dosa and mini idlis for the kids. We also ordered the mango lassi for the kids. The Special thali was ok, there were only 3 curries that my husband and I liked out of the sampling of 8. The dessert with the thali was a weird choice - sweet syrup with tiny mango pieces. I've been going to this restaurant for several years now despite its poor service, as I do enjoy the food. We were a party of four yesterday, around ten in the morning. Two of us always order chai, which usually doesn't come until after your food FINALLY arrives, even though you ask them to bring it before the meal. We like to drink our chai while we wait for our meal, & today wasn't any exception, same old story. Yet another server that brought us the chai was less than friendly, to say the least. We all finished our meals at various times because they were brought to us at various times. Then to top everything off, a different server, or maybe a manager, tells us that they need our table because it's getting busy. That was a first for me, & I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I really don't feel like giving patronage to a business that treats their customers so poorly, & I will hold myself to that if anyone ever suggests going there. We weren't the only ones complaining that our order was taking too long today, just as many other times. Management REALLY needs to look at the way they conduct their business, & patrons like myself who continue having bad experiences at this restaurant & others like it, need to let them know.
