Tried this place as recommended by a Dallas print magazine. Service was 2 out of 5. Place was filled and maybe they were short staffed. Not what I had expected. Music was loud as wait staff couldn't hear our order. Pizza was alright - ordered the taleggio, fontina, peppercorn with burnt honey - came out ok. Ordered the halibut cacciucco - quite dry and the accompanying sauce was basically tomato sauce with a hint of lemon. The beef tartare and tuna carpaccio were alright. Was looking forward to our visit, the pre-pandemic Sassetta was a solid spot and vibe. The new Joule version is simply not the same restaurant experience, the service was awkward and clumsy. From four different servers stepping on each others toes to stay on top of everything (we only ordered 7 dishes - 1 starter, 1 salad, 1 pizza, 4 mains), to one of the more awkward FOH managers I've encountered. Who would randomly walk over interrupting conversation to ask a question about service or food, in the sort of way where you get a bad feeling. Like they are unsure of how you are going to respond. We had nothing negative to say, I don't complain during a dinner with friends. At one point they asked if we wanted pepper, we said yes. They came back started to grind the pepper but then walked away abruptly after only offering it to two of us, we were a table of four. There are three stars here because there were legitimate nice moments, our primary server was kind and human, but where the disappointment hit hardest was the food. It's just not very good, and the best stuff they serve is not up to par with other comparable restaurants within a mile of Sassetta. The pasta dishes were all forgettable we tried three, two of which were "highly" recommended by multiple servers and the front of house manager. These were the crab ravioli and the ricotta Agnolotti. For one, these dishes didn't resemble the picturesque visuals we saw online. Both were served in oily watery broth. The crab ravioli had one flavor note - lemon zest. The Agnolotti looked awful, we all just sort of stared at it wondering what went wrong. The dish was flat and filled with an oily sauce. The Bolognese was another miss, although it looked great, it wasn't a bolognese. Bolognese is a slow cooked flavor powerhouse, this just was pile of ground meat cooked in wine mixed with their unremarkable in house pasta. At one point the manager explained how the pasta was made, we didn't ask. She told us two of the pastas were made by a machine and the Agnolotti was crafted by hand... There was a fourth entre ordered, but they didn't report on the dish. They also didn't eat more than a few bites before requesting a box. The pizza we had was also nothing special. There are a lot of better pizzas in downtown, so why pay double the price for Sassetta. Flavor wise the pizza was essentially a dessert course, it had a number of ingredients hiding behind one flavor - honey. That is the problem, dish after dish, the flavor was one note. The saving grace of the pizza was the chili oil, which we ordered after the fact. The best bite was the starter meatballs and toast. We tried a few wines, all were excellent. But the kicker at the end of the day was you pay way too much for food that simply falls short of your basic expectations of presentation and flavor. If you charge 32 dollars for a pasta dish, you should be able to taste the ingredients. The plating should look mouth watering. Have been to Michelin star restaurants at similar price points and you leave thinking that was worth the price. It is unfortunate, but Sassetta is a good example of just how soulless and empty Dallas can be. Sassetta is like an elaborate role playing exercise. You go there to feel a certain way, be surrounded by a certain sort of person, to pay a certain price... I should probably stop there, you get the picture. read more

Anyone in downtown knows we have a wealth of Italian restaurants so when one comes along that blows you away, you've got to share it on Yelp. From the great, engaging service (shout out to Jay!) to the lovely cocktails (the Tosca is like summer in a glass) to the yummy food (our favorites were the burrata & the meatballs as starters, the cacio e pepe & the tagliatelle alla bolognese for mains, and shishito peppers as a side), Sassetta did not disappoint! I thought the wine list was well curated with a nice selection of by the glass options which I always appreciate as my husband prefers a nice lager. It was a great meal and we are so glad to have this restaurant within walking distance! We will definitely be back. I suggest rounding out your evening with a nightcap just across the hall at Midnight Rambler! Bon appetit! read more

Menu changed recently and the pasta options are seafood heavy. They got rid of the cacio e pepe which is why I went there. We left shortly after reviewing the menu. Not what it once was.... read more

I don't know what al the negative reviews are about, the food and service were great. Would absolutely recommend this place to anyone.

It was ok, the food wasn't mind blowing and it took a while to come out. I honestly think it's a little overpriced.

I have dined here about 6 times. Tonight the bartender was so blatantly rude, I will not return.

Such a beautiful experience. The octopus was one of the best fine dining dishes I have ever had (surprise) and met my dietary restrictions. The wine options paired nicely with each course. I absolutely recommend the meatballs as an appetizer; everything was so well flavored without any heaviness. Food was okay for the price. Atmosphere is decent. My main concern is that we had 9:30pm reservation and when we arrived, the hostess tried to tell us the kitchen closed at 9:45pm and so we wouldn't have much time to order or eat. I became frustrated that they would offer us a reservation time slot so close to the closing of the kitchen and was told by the hostess that it was the "restaurant rules". I became more irritated and finally another staff member came over and clarified that this was not the case and we could have a normal dinner as planned. That said, the place was empty and we felt like they were rushing to get us out. The appetizer and salad were brought at the same time and then main courses were brought out less then 10 minutes later before we were done with the salad. The meatball appetizer was cold. We expressed concerns about feeling rushed and the manager was nice and apologetic and slowed things down. But overall we just felt rushed and like we were bothering everyone for dining late even though it was a reservation time slot they offered online. Will not be going back or recommending. read more

The restaurant is lovely, the food was delicious, but the service does not match! It took a solid five minutes for anyone to come by our table when we were seated. Once the server did stop by, he popped by without saying anything and then walked away. We still waited for water to even be filled. This was a consistent issue throughout the evening. When we asked questions about the menu he would give only the most basic response. One of the few times when he came to check on the table he was chewing food. We wanted to order another round of drinks and could not see our server until we were finished with our entrees to do so. The kitchen brought the food out so we had not seen our server for a while. When we finally ordered and received the drinks one of them was obviously wrong as he was delivering it and we requested the correct drink. He did not return with it until we were finished with dessert. Overall, I enjoyed the evening. The food was delicious, but the service was on par with a really bad Applebees. read more
