Mmm, I had the garlic butter shrimp. There was barely any garlic. It was edible. Like if you're hungry you'll eat it. The shrimp is not peeled or deveined. My husband ordered a spicy shrimp, it came kind of soupy and his shrimp was peeled but I didn't like the flavor. The spiciness was fine but it was the flavor I didn't like. My daughter ordered the "kalua pig". She literally got like bbq pulled pork....it was horrible. Just want to warn anyone that wants real kalua pig that this version is nothing like the Hawaiian style Kalua pig. Fire Rock tacos: Two corn tortillas stuffed with shrimp, salsa, cream sauce (very good), shredded cabbage. This was a flavorful spicy shrimp. Its pretty quiet on your palate in the beginning and creeps on you towards the end and the more bites you take. Super good. Highly recommend if you like spicy foods. COCONUT SHRIMP FTW I love coconut shrimp so got it here and was happy with my order. Crispy and plump and nice coconut taste. It can get a bit oily tho if eating all alone towards the end. The salad is delicious that comes with the special sweet dressing. Only complaint is they won't switch the plain rice for the garlic one that comes with that garlic shrimp plate. Wow, I wasn't sure since there were so many mixed reviews. We met some people where we were staying that said to try this place because it was good. So, I decided to forego the reviews I was seeing and take a chance on this place. So glad that we did. We ordered the garlic shrimp plate, the fish, shrimp, and fries combo, and a side of grilled sourdough bread. Everything was delicious. And if you like garlic then get the garlic shrimp plate. It comes with two scoops of rice that also have garlic on top of it and coleslaw. Very tasty. There were a ton of choices and I'd definitely go back and try at least 2-3 other plate options. We shared the savage shrimp plate, garlic shrimp plate, and garlic fries. The garlic shrimp was pretty good, but not very flavorful. I wish that they added more garlic! I personally wanted to try the fire rock plate, but some of us couldn't handle the heat, so we agreed on the savage plate, since it was the name of the restaurant. This particular dish came with peeled shrimp served in a savory broth with bread for dipping. It was not we were expecting at all, but the broth was very rich and tomato-y. It kind of reminded me of a French dip sandwich. I think my favorite item here was the garlic fries! They were thin, crispy, and loaded with garlic on top! We got coconut shrimp, fried shrimp, fish and chips, and calamari. All the meat was good, but extremely hot, so not ideal on a hot Hawaiian day. The only downside is the crinkle cut fries: they weren't especially crispy, and because they were so thick they were dry, almost like they were frozen and then fried. I love this island. One thing I do not love, however, is how unbearably early everything closes here, especially when it comes to food. Fresh off a long day in the water, my family and I were looking for a place to refuel... and at a little past 8pm, exactly ZERO places of interest were open. C'mon, man! After doing some bottom-of-the-barrel Yelp searching, we found out that Savage Shrimp was still open. It's a tiny little hole-in-the wall place, with just a kitchen and a couple tables. I decided to go with the Garlic Scampi, which comes with 10 pieces of garlic shrimp along with 2 scoops of rice and a cabbage slaw. We also ordered the Coconut Shrimp (8pc, also with rice and slaw). Despite how absolutely famished I was, it says a lot that I didn't even eat half of my plate. The garlic shrimp were not only super small, but extremely bland and desperately needed more garlic and salt. For $14.50, I would definitely expect more flavor -- disappointing. The coconut shrimp were serviceable (my dad and sister liked them), but they weren't quite enough to totally save the meal ($14.95 also seems a bit steep, no?). Service was overall pretty nice, but as far as food is concerned, this was a bit of a letdown. Guess we'll try to have an earlier dinner next time... LOL read more
