Their well known spaghetti with marinara dish was outstanding, with flavor exceeding any pasta dishes my wife and I had eaten in the past. The ambience was slightly upscale but very comfortable. I've been to Scarpetta multiple times in the past and always had a great experience. Unfortunately, I haven't been since the COVID-19 pandemic hit but recently I used a day off of work as an excuse to go for weekday lunch with one of my colleagues. I'm glad to report that the experience was still as good as I remember. Everyone knows about the amazing complimentary bread basket and classic spaghetti, but many of their other dishes are also worth checking out. For lunch, they offered a three course pre fixe menu for $45, which I assume was a Restaurant Week special. I tried the raw black bass, branzino, and panna cotta. I always enjoyed the crudi at Scarpetta and the black bass was no exception. It was perfectly balanced with just the right amount of salt, acid from the blood orange, texture from the crushed pistachios, and a hint of spice from the aleppo. Then came a generous portion of branzino which was perfectly cooked and complemented well by a sauce featuring capers. It was a simple but beautiful dish. I am usually not a big fan of panna cotta but this one was full of surprises including rose gelee and yogurt sorbet. It was a great way to end the meal. Recently tried scarpettas with a few friends. The atmosphere was very classy and elegant. Our server was very nice and gave us a very thorough walk through of the menu. We had a reservation so didn't wait at all. We got an appetizer - the braised short rib which was very very tender and delicious - packed with flavor. For entree I got the spaghetti and I understand why this is the most popular item. The sauce was super rich and filled with flavor. You can tell that a lot went into the sauce. FIRST TIME IN NYC~! There's so many great places to eat in NYC. My girlfriend has this place bookmarked for a must try. We were both very excited since they have such great reviews and I can definitely see why. Our waiter was Alex, he was great. Very friendly and personable. Gave us great recommendations on what we should try. We also found out during our visit that one of the managers was also from Hawaii. So that's always nice to bump into people from home ;] I really enjoyed the complimentary bread basket they give! It comes with an assortment of 3 different types of bread, my favorite was hands down the Stromboli stuffed with meat and cheese. The basket also comes with three accompaniments: butter, olive oil and eggplant caponata. Very impressive! The Grub. BURRATA ($24). YUM! This dish was so perfect made with butternut squash, roasted delicata, apple, and squash puree. Came here on a Saturday and was pleasantly surprised. The ambiance was elegant, dimmed, and inviting. It's a perfect place for a date, birthday party, or special occasion. They make homemade pasta, and that seemed to be the popular selection amongst many tables. To start off, we had the Faroe Island Salmon (4.2 out of 5), and the burrata (3.7 out of 5). The salmon was light, fresh, and mildly spicy. The burrata was made to perfection (nice and creamy) but I was offset with it being served with warm, fairly firm vegetables. For mains, we opted for the short rib and bone marrow agnolotti (the winner! 4.8 out of 5) and the duck and foie gras ravioli (3.5 out of 5). Both dishes were hearty in flavor, but the bone marrow agnolotti truly won the show. For dessert we had the warm pecan bread (oh my gosh, amazing! 5 out of 5), and the espresso budino (4.2 out of 5). We paired our dinner with a beautiful red wine, which tied everything together beautifully. With dessert, we had the 30 year port wine, and honestly it's the best port wine I've ever had. Had a 9:30 reservation for 2 people. Have been here on several other occasions and had been underwhelmed last time but looking at the current menu thought we would give it another try. Left at 10pm after still not having a table ready for us. Staff at the desk clearly didn't care and made no effort to make us feel that our business was important to them. Unfortunately, we were late for our reservation and got downgraded to a hightop in the bar seating area, but welcome to NYC on a Saturday night. It happens. This time, I tried: + Tuna susci + Spaghetti + Short rib and bone marrow agnolotti + Duck and foie gras ravioli + Apple crostata The dessert was actually my favorite dish, though the pastas were all great as well. Only thing I didn't care for was the tuna - it had raw veggies inside, which is great when you're at Beyond Sushi but not what I was hoping for here. Service was great. I'd eat it every day if I could. The truffled mushrooms are fragrant and delicious. For my entrée, I ordered the short rib and bone marrow agnolotti. I loved every little soft pillow of it. The serving size was perfect, especially after the appetizers. My friend offered me a bite of her spaghetti, and I will say: believe the hype. If you're not the kind of person to order plain, meatless spaghetti because you can "make it at home" (like me), you will rethink your life after eating Scarpetta's spaghetti. Scarpetta is an all around fabulous restaurant. Service is top notch, the decor is rich and moody and the food can't be beat. It's an Italian restaurant by the famed Scott Conant but the menu has a variety of dishes including quite a few fish. Be ready to spend some dough here as portion sizes are small (probably the size they're supposed to be but not the size we're used to) so you'll definitely want to start with some appetizers and nothing comes cheap. Don't pass up on the bread they serve the table. The onion was my favorite. The Yellowtail crudo is a beautiful appetizer and just like everything we ate it was so fresh. You can really taste the quality of the ingredients here and despite everything we ate I didn't leave feeling heavy. The Charred Octopus was another appetizer that is not to be missed. It's perfectly prepared and served over a light sauce and little potatoes. The Mozzarella in Carrozza (fried mozzarella) was good but I think for the price there are more exciting things to order. The simply named Spaghetti with tomato and basil is the dish Scarpetta is known for. Don't expect to be blown away but expect a perfectly executed dish. I order it every time. The hands down best dish of the night was the Short Rib & Bone Marrow Agnolotti. The agnolotti was just so thin and light, like a tiny blanket enveloping the tender short rib. I could have eaten 2 plates all to myself! Honorable mention goes to the Ravioli Cacio e Pepe as well as the Branzino with bluefoot mushroom, broccolini, guanciale and asparagus vinaigrette. There was not a disappointment to be had, and I told you we ordered a lot! Don't forget to round the meal out with a nice glass of wine or well crafted cocktail from their exquisite selection as well as a dessert. Do not come here hungry. Came here for the first time and I'll start off by saying I had really high expectations especially after reading so many 5 star reviews. First of all I want to say that the restaurant itself is very nicely decorated. Once we sat we immediately received the most delicious bread basket. Our waiter came by and took our order...he looked miserable, not once did he crack a smile. We started with the octopus, burrata and yellowtail. My immediate reaction was "where's the rest of it?" The portions were ridiculously small. For the entree I had the lobster tagliolini Nero- absolutely delicious, portion was perfect. My husband had the ravioli cacio e Pepe and I felt like it was too creamy... the portion was very small. My friend had the duck .. it was ok. For the amount of money they charge for these small portions you would think I would at least get freshly grated cheese. The drinks were delicious. I had an aperol spritz and espresso martini. I also tried my husbands almalfi martini - so good! But served in a tiny glass. We sat with empty drink glasses for about 20 min before we were able to wave down our sluggish waiter and asked him to get us another round of drinks. Dessert- the chocolate cake and espresso budino- both were amazing! Besides our waiter being so dry, slow and miserable the service from the bus boy was great ... wish I got his name ... he was so friendly and attentive.. Scarpetta was a very unique dining experience. The quality of the service and the presentation of the food makes this place one of the great Italian restaurants in the city. A friend and I decided to give Scarpetta a shot during NY Restaurant Week and loved the diversity of the courses. What a phenomenal experience. Just like 10 years ago in Beverly Hills. This is an absolute must visit gem in NYC. Had the house salad which was a great start. The bread was unreal including a stromboli style I could munch on for hours & hours & hours & ... Finished with the marscapone Panna Cotta. Another elevation of a rather simple dish. Everything was fabulous. Highly recommend a visit if you're in Manhattan. Be prepared to be blown away with food and service. Shout-out to the guys behind the bar. Flavor was bland on the sea bass, duck was good temperature but the sauce flavor did enhance the duck. The restaurant is connected to a hotel and the restrooms are a bit inconvenient to get to since they're down stairs pass the hotel lobby. The place was jam pack. Tables are close to one another and the placement was inconvenient for my partner who kept getting bumped into when servers and other guests walked by. I'm average size and there was barely any room to put my jacket down in the booth without touching the party sitting next to us, so it was uncomfortable. The food is pretty good here, we made reservations almost two weeks in advance for a Saturday night spot. Octopus was really tender, and perfectly cooked. Black ink pasta was also really good, not salty at all as you would find at some places. The duck to me was the least impressive dish we ordered tonight. It's a bummer because outside of Eric's sassy/ smart remarks and jokes that simply couldn't land (completely targeted and full of aggression) I would maybe have returned. I've been wanting to come here for dinner for a long time. A good friend made reservations here for my birthday and we all go dolled up to go. Covid times means there is both indoor and outdoor seating. The set up outside is really romantic, reminds me of al fresco dining in Europe. We had a table reserved indoors and each table was separated by a clear plastic divider. The tasteful decor inside was such that the plastic dividers didn't take away from the ambiance. The low lighting and music was flattering and relaxing. For appetizers, we ordered to share the charred octopus and the polenta. Both were delicious. The octopus was tender and had a nice char and the right amount of tender chewiness. I wish there was more! The polenta was buttery and creamy. Also, the bread for the table was really good (especially the cheese + salami bread). I ordered the LOBSTER TAGLIOLINI NERO and really enjoyed the dish. I wish the lobster pieces were bigger because they got lost in the taste of the sauce and pasta. I was able to try the SHORT RIB & BONE MARROW AGNOLOTTI (I wish I had ordered this instead because it was so rich and savory and the taste lingered after you swallowed the last bite!) and the DUCK & FOIE GRAS RAVIOLI (absolutely mouthwatering, literally that first bite flooded my mouth and taste buds went crazy!) from my girlfriends' orders. For dessert we shared the ESPRESSO BUDINO and the COCONUT PANNA COTTA... the budino was really good even though I am not a huge fan of coffee. I still enjoyed the sharp, distinct taste. I've been here twice, and both times I've arrived on time for my reservation only to have to wait too long to be seated. The first time I came here, I had a reservation for 2, and it took over 30 minutes to be seated. The waiting area is just the super noisy and crowded bar up front with no where to sit since it's so crowded. The second time I came, I had a reservation for 3, we arrived on time, and we still had to wait 15 minutes to be seated despite the table we eventually were seated at being empty and ready the whole time we were waiting. On top of this, the hostesses are unfriendly and not very helpful. I walked up to the counter to let them know my whole party had arrived, and one of the girls who wasn't doing anything was just staring into the distance for a couple of minutes before acknowledging me while the other girl was busy. The hostesses have been unfriendly and unhelpful both times I have visited. Now onto the food. The food here is actually quite nice despite being extremely overpriced. The main gripes I have with this place are about the service. The first time I came, our server was excellent, checked in on us a few times, and very helpfully explained the menu to us. I never felt like anything took too long the first time. The second time I came, the service was friendly but extremely slow. It took a while for them to take our order, then the appetizers came out quickly, but the entrees took an extremely long time to come out. Overall, the food is decent but quite overpriced. I wouldn't come here if you aren't planning on spending a very long time here because the service from the initial wait for a table to the dining is extremely slow. read more

Heard great things about the bread basket but it was pretty average. The dips were yummy - particularly the eggplant + whipped butter. We started off with the scallops and the yellowtail. They weren't bad - the yellowtail was pretty good and seasoned well. What was the most disappointing was the entrees. We had spaghetti with tomato and basil as well as lobster pasta. The spaghetti tasted like something I could make in my own kitchen with canned tomatoes. This was apparently the most famous dish they had at the restaurant. I was hesitant to order it because it sounded so simple but it really didn't live up to the hype. I ended up telling the server I wasn't the biggest fan and he replaced it with a cod dish, free of charge. This also ended up being pretty average. The server was very friendly but couldn't give us a straight answer on if we ordered enough food or not. The dessert was yummy. We had the chocolate molten cake with ice cream. The toffee on this dish was delicious. We ended up spending almost $300 for this meal and that's what upsets me the most because it definitely wasn't worth the money.
