.., looking for a relaxing Sunday brunch, pierside, w/ mimosa's & Schooner's of Bloody Mary's on deck? Check out Schooner or Later! Awesome view, mostly outdoor dining. This place shuts down around 3-4ish so get here early & enjoy the scenery. Our friend Daniel, my gf Diane & I came here on a Saturday around 1ish. Wait wasn't too long, about 15 minutes give or take. The staff was friendly & attentive as well. We checked out the menu & it has a pretty great selection as far as variety. Pricing was decent but they are pretty generous w/ their food servings so it all works out even if not better. Daniel had their turkey club sandwiches & those were huge! It was 4 small stacks of gorgeously layered goodness. Each sandwich stack had a friendly helping of bacon delicately nestled between turkey, lettuce, tomato, avocado, & bread. It looked very promising. Diane had their buffalo wings & a house salad. Those too, were definately friendly in portion. I had some of her wings, & I enjoyed those alot. I had their roast beef w/ au jus & sweet potato fries. Along w/ a pickle spear, I was above the clouds. Perfect way to start a day, great food & a great view. Their roast beef sandwich was delicious! Meat was tender & tasty, au jus was on point. I was even dipping the sweet potato fries in there. Their regular fries looked great also, thicker than your average shoestring, diner style fries. But man, those sweet potato fries looked too awesome to miss out on, & I was right, they were incredible! After all was said & done, we waited forever for the bill. Our server couldn't ring us up if we paid w/ card & a gift card so she had to give it to the cashier inside to do. That was the only part that took long. Our server came to check on us & noticed we didn't get our bill yet. She goes in herself to get it for us only to find out that our bill was charged wrong. So that took another 5-10 minutes to wait on. The only drag in our visit but it was ok. We'll definately come back again to try out the rest of their menu, check em' out! read more

Over labor day weekend we headed down to Seal Beach for some fun and sun and decided to finally try Schooner or Later. The wait was long for lunch time on Saturday we felt like it was totally worth it. For starters the location is perfect, right on the Alamitos Bay Harbor so the weather is perfect, even in the dead of summer, and the atmosphere is great looking out at all the boat slips and yachts coming and going. The parking is ample and free and the area is perfect for a leisurely stroll after your meal. When we checked in the wait was 1:30 for guaranteed patio seating or 45 mins for first available. We went with the shorter wait and lucked out with a patio table, and they were spot on with the 45 min quote. There is a little bar set up to get drinks right at the entrance and we grabbed two huge 24oz Bloody Mary's after we put our name in. The time flew having our drinks and sitting in their waiting area, which has plenty of seats and shade to enjoy the weather. When we finally sat down to eat the service was fast and friendly. I went for the Crab Melt sandwich and my wife got a half plate of "The Mess" with avocado. Both items flew right out, less than 10 mins after putting our order in. My crab melt was awesome. There were huge chunks of lump crab, thick melty cheddar cheese all on deliciously toasted thick sliced sourdough bread. The crab was cooked perfectly, tender and flakey and wasn't heavy on the mayo. I got onion rings as my side an they were super crispy and seasoned perfectly. My wife's mess was also delicious. All of the ingredients were balanced nicely and it had a whole half avocado sliced on the top. It wasn't your typical skillet or scramble, it was more flavorful and was a perfect combo, not too much potato like most places. I would say that Schooner or Later is well worth the wait with delicious fresh food, great atmosphere and excellent cocktails! The service was great, our waitress Tatiana was friendly and took good care of us with refills and everything we needed. read more

I was red to eat near the water and I looked and looked on Yelp for a great place and I'm so thankful for all the great reviews I seen. I drove on over to this restaurant and I loved how much of a variety of food they had. I got the Roasted Turkey club and added avocado wow!!! So delicious. It was perfect. Even their fries were perfectly crisp. I definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone. They even get your number and text you when your table is ready. I went and walked around and enjoyed the scenery in the meantime. read more

So, we came here recently after talking for years about trying it out. It's alright. You come here for the nice outdoor seating which is tucked into a corner of Los Alamitos Harbor with a nice view of the boat docks. If you had to sit inside, maybe not the greatest option in the area, honestly. The food and service are good and the prices are solid. We sampled their mimosa which was good and had a commendable ratio of OJ to booze. Also had their Bloody Mary which was tasty. I had the chili omelette and Wifey got the eggs benedict. Nothing great, but decent. Typical diner type menu with many standard options. Heard about the wait times here being long, but we came on a Thursday morn around 10:00ish...seated pretty quickly. When we left around noon, people were starting to pile up in the waiting area. Bottom line is you come here for three things: Location, location, location. read more

We love this place. But today, something was way off. Server was fine, didn't get it all right. We ordered pancakes first to start, then ordered mains. It all came together, no problem. Sever and wife had a whole conversation about bread for her turkey sandwich, it came on the wrong bread. My chicken fried steak and hash browns both tasted like they had been fried twice. My wife and I both think that it was sitting under a heat lamp because it was a mistake and then they just fried it again when I ordered it. Hard and greasy. Ordered my eggs over medium. Got one med, one hard. Not at all worth the $21 charge. Saw people at 2 different tables also send food back for being wrong while we were there. Like I said, we love this place, but today it was just a mess. And this automated response i just got from Denise L. Talking about cheese on a tuna melt is comical and quite stupid, so thanks. read more

A good diner-style restaurant along the docks! I'm glad we tried it our! We saw it on the food channel :-) We wanted to go for Sunday brunch and knew that it would be crowded so we planned to arrive at 930. When we did finally get to the restaurant there was already a ton of people waiting! The wait was about 30 minutes so we decided to wait. We ordered the veggie omelette which comes with a choice of hash browns or fruit (I chose berries) and a choice of muffin. The food came out relatively quick but the blueberry muffins my mom and I ordered never arrived. We had to ask for them twice and by the time we finally got them we were almost done with our omelettes! I would have docked a star for the muffins but when we did get them they were so warm and fresh and were the best muffins I ever had. But not only that, when the waitress brought us our check she comped our soda and coffee because of the long wait for the muffins. So this place knows what they are doing. And the omelette was amazing, by the way! Definitely come early on Sundays because when we left the restaurant around 11 the waiting area was even more cramped. Like a solid sea of people cramped. And they looked like they had been waiting there for awhile. Enjoy! read more

Met Linn H here for a lovely brunch today--my first time here. The review's more like 3.5 stars, but I'm feeling generous. First of all, the crowd and wait here is ridiculous. We'd planned to meet at 1pm, but thankfully Linn had been here before so she got there a half hour earlier to put in our names, which meant I only had to wait 30 min, while she waited an hour. I have to thank her for taking that bullet. We got seated around the corner in the side outside seating area, which turned out to be a blessing because it was a little less hectic and we could carry on a normal conversation. It was also very well shaded from the sun. They have a large and diverse menu, and after debating whether to have breakfast or lunch, I settled on the crab and avocado benedict. The food took a while to come out, but luckily we weren't in a hurry or anything, so that was OK. The benedict was very delish, with real crab, as opposed to krab, and the accompanying hash browns were really good also--could have been a bit more crispy for my taste, but still very good. Linn's crab and cheddar omelette looked great as well. I definitely wouldn't mind coming back again, but I'd have to brace myself for the crowds. read more

This is a nice location in Long Beach, the service is fast n' friendly. I enjoy dining indoors and actually if you get a seat at the counter, it's nostalgic like sitting at a throwback diner, watching the food get prepared. Here's an interesting tip or option. We went when there was a 30 minute waiting period to get seated outdoors, or we could have (and did) get seated inside immediately. We opted for the here and now. Personally, I don't like outdoor seating sometimes because of the weather that can be windy, or the bright sun, and it's often too hot, or too cold and sometimes if it's too cold, your food gets cold faster than you can eat it. Indoors provides a safe environment that's a known quality. Generally, the service is faster since it's closer to the kitchen. The plus / pros of outdoor seating of course is that you're in Sunny So Cal in a Beach City with a view near the harbor water, so it's aesthetic and mood setting as well as different. Being a local 'tho, it's old-hat to me, so I'm a bit immune to those bells and whistles. However, if I was bringing out of town guests, I may change my tune and wait for outdoor seating. The food quality was good, I especially liked one of the salads there, the seafood louis with shrimp and crab, having a generous portion of bay shrimp. Parking is rather easy and simple in the area too. read more

Arrive early to beat the crowd, or hop in line at the outside bar, get a drink and have a seat. We only waited about 20-30 minutes but we got there around 10am. Ordered the ABC omelette with country fried potatoes, biscuit and side of gravy. It was all so good. Actually might have had too much bacon lol If there is such a thing. Prices are decent. $10 22oz Screwdriver can't be beat! Great views from the outside seating and cute diner feel inside. read more

My husband and I like coming here for the mimosa schooners but honestly the food is mid at best. They don't season any of the food. Not even the eggs have a little salt and pepper. We do enjoy the zucchini bread and bacon. The service is inconsistent. Great scenery though. We'll still come back. read more

Well...my husband I were looking forward to coming to this place for years. We always knew this place was a landmark restaurant. It really sealed the deal after we saw it being featured on Diners, Drive-in and Dives. Honestly, in our eyes, it really failed to meet our expectations in every way. I'm so sad about this because we were really excited to finally make the trip to Schooner or later. We were expecting to wait awhile because it did let us know on the website to expect a long wait time. So that was no surprise, we knew that we were going at a peak time and we did ask to be seated outside. So 45 minutes later, after waiting the extra time for an outside table, they seat us inside. So we tried to take that in stride. But what starting bothering me is that I had to ask three times for a high chair for my son. After standing around our table for awhile I finally just ended up searching for one and getting it myself. It took three people to get us drinks. Which was a water and OJ. We had to ask twice for silverware. The one good thing is that the food came out really fast. So fast that it came out before our drinks. Unfortunately, they didn't bring out everything we ordered and once again we had to ask for the rest of our meal. The food itself was okay. I've definitely had better breakfast meals elsewhere. Just to top things off they gave us the wrong bill which if we didn't look, we would have paid $20+ over our actual bill. No disrespect to the legacy of this place, but I honestly don't think this place is worth the hype or the hassle. If you happen to get seated outside, there is a nice view of the marina, but that's just me looking from afar since we didn't get seated outside So if you like hype and nothing else, this is your place. read more

Took my old man here for breakfast on Father's Day. Wait time for a table was one hour and fifteen minutes. Time went by fast, they allow you to order beer and micheladas while you wait. Service was good, I had a crab, cheddar and avocado melt on parmesan sourdough bread. It was delicious! Fresh crab smothered in melted cheddar and jack cheese with avocado slices. Its perfect for lunch or brunch just so good. Onion rings were okay, fried perfectly but were rather a little bland. Nice outdoor patio area with a good view of the marina. We arrived today excited for a fun Father's Day experience. We were prepared to wait and knew it could 1 hour +. We waited over 2 hours for a party of 4, including 2 young children. I asked the hostess how much longer, she was very rude and not helpful at all. I understand they don't want to upset people by quoting how long the wait could be, but her attitude was offensive. We waited another 30 mins but then decided to leave. We never received a notification that our table was ready. I was so disappointed in our experience!! read more

This place has good food with great outside seating views. I definitely prefer coming here for their breakfast options over their lunch menu, their dish The Mess is my favorite, but they have a variety of options to choose from. It can get pretty busy in the mornings so make sure to arrive early! Their alcoholic beverages are also worth noting. read more

So there was a 40 minute wait to be seated this morning (really on a Monday?) but we figured that it was caused by so many people being without a job due to coronavirus and they are still getting larger unemployment check than their regular jobs. At any rate it's the second time in a week that I have eaten here. I was very impressed at how all the employees were so faithfully doing their disinfecting everything and wearing masks. Most people were as hearing to precautions and mask and distancing guidelines too. As for the food - exceptional in taste, quantity and price. I was very satisfied with this restaurant, and the helpers we encountered. Then you have the A+ view of the marina which is second to none on a beautiful day. Please don't go there. You'll make my wait longer! read more

Yummy! Great food and ambiance. The customer service is super laid back but attentive at the same time. It was a Monday and we wanted to try somewhere new for brunch. Surprisingly for the time we went it wasn't packed & we got seated as soon as we walked up. At the moment there is some construction going on and it's a bit nosey but other then that it's still worth trying for breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner. read more

We walked right up and were seated within 5 minutes. Surprising, since it was a Saturday, around 12. We expected it to be super busy. Our waitress was very attentive. We ordered our food and it was out within 15 minutes. I got the standard breakfast... Bacon, scrambled eggs, hash browns, and sourdough toast. No complaints! Our food was tasty and hot! I definitely recommend the Cramosa... Cranberry juice & Champagne. Was very refreshing! We will definitely be back. Maybe next time I'll try one of the more adventurous options! read more

This place made us wait 30 minutes for our food. People around us sat down 20 minutes after us and they got their food around the same time we did and it was the same order, tuna melt with fries. Their excuse was their was a big party and our food order could have gotten into one of their 2 kitchens but sitting out there, I did not see a big party. Our food was cold when we got it. Our server had the biggest resting bitch face when taking our orders but smiled at everyone else. My only thought was, I'm Asian and this is why I'm getting treated like this. Spoke to the manager, she only comped 1 drink which was nothing. Never going here again and if you're not white, expect to be treated like shit. read more

The good was okay, nothing to rave about. The price point is a little higher however, it's to be expected based on the area. Staff are disconnected and not overly personable. No refills or check ins were offered to see how the food tasted. The people I was with enjoyed their meals but the sausage I had in the burrito had a very strong spice that was not good. read more

Been here a couple of times and I really like it. I have only tried one breakfast dish that I love and always get. The ABC omelette is delicious. It comes with avocado, bacon, and cheese and it is topped with sour cream. It is the perfect combo and they are very generous with the bacon. I also love their hashbrown. The mimosas are really good and they offer a few flavors. The outside patio is comfortable and has a view of the boats. However, service is nothing special. If you come on a weekend be prepared to wait an hour or more. read more

Not going to overwhelme you with details, you can see other reviews and pictures for that. Quick notes: Open everyday at 630am-3pm. That's it. They don't do lunch. Not a bad idea. Agreed with other yelpers, food can be better. I didn't get the "wow" factor. It was just ok for me. Service wasn't all too friendly. From the host stand to server. It's probably due to the fact that they've been working since 630am. Understood, but it would be nice to get a smile here and there. Overall our server was attentive and checked up on us, refilled our drinks and all. Soon try it schooner or later. haha. read more

The crab and cheese omelet with hollandaise was amazing. The coffee was a 3, not very good coffee unless you buy coffee at the coffee bar. The service was good. There is no liquor license and they make mock drinks, so that sucks. The "bloody mary"-like concoction looked terrible, butI admit ai am a bloody mary snob, so I did not order. Drinks are served with soju, and while i love soju, no way in hell am i having a bloody with soju. There is construction fencing around the place. The wait for breakfast was over an hour and fifteen minutes and we were told it would be 45. I would not return. Not worth the wait. I would maybe get take out but that is it. read more

Been here a few times. Drinks are cool and food is fairly good, but the service this time was ass. Waitress looked tired and lame with us, but smiled with other customers. Not sure wtf her problem was. Waited close to 30 min for food, and 2 tables that sat after us got their food waay faster. Manager told us there was a big party and order might have gotten put behind it, but there were no big parties before us and our food was cold when it was brought out. Based off other reviews here, this seems to be common. She took off a sandwich (that my wife didn't bother eating cause she was appalled by the service), but I still paid $30 for a drink and a burger. Sheesh read more

This a classic/vintage style breakfast cafe. I enjoy having breakfast here with friends and family. The food is good and the service is excellent!!! They really make you feel comfortable. The scenic marina is the highlight of having breakfast here for me - I love being by the water!!! I've been coming here for years. The wait can be crazy long so if you have an issue with waiting be sure to go early. I got there before 9 on the Monday of a long weekend and waited a short time before being seated outside with a great view. Today i had a half order of "the mess" (a scramble with eggs, hash browns, green peppers and onions topped with cheddar) which was more than enough food. A little too much cheese for my liking but that's a personal preference. My friends and i ordered a bottle of champagne and a glass of OJ to have some mimosas with breakfast and i was a little put off by the fact that the cup with the OJ was only partially filled...like don't be that cheap folks. History

Established in 1985.

When we bought this café, the name was not Schooner or Later; it was called the Little Ships Galley, owned by Earl and Helen Schultz. Our most famous dish is called the "Schultzie's Mess", created by Helen and Schultzie (Earl's Nickname). Schultzie continued to be very much a part of Schooner or Later. He made chili from scratch for us every week until he was 80 years old and we got to busy for him to keep up. He was here every day enhancing the lives of the old and the new. The Schultzes owned the Galley for 20 years, and customers still sometimes come in and ask about them. Helen lives in Oklahoma since Schultzie passed away in 1989. Now a tidbit about our family. Schooner's is family owned and operated. Someone from our family is always here; that may account for our success. We care and we try to monitor everything that goes on here. We like to hear from our employees, as well as our customers, if something is not going according to our standards.

Meet the Business Owner: Denny and Denise L.

Denny and Denise, also on the back of the menu. Denise was about 5 and Denny was 8. Beverly is our mother. We grew up in Long Beach and graduated from Millikan High, Denny is also an alumni of CSULB. Denise's kids are Cori and Curtis, she also has a grandson, Ryan.

For lunch my husband and I decided to try a local restaurant that was featured on Diners, Drive-In's and Dives. The place is called Schooner or Later in Long Beach, where apparently it's the "in" place to be since the wait is often an hour or longer. When we arrived the wait was about twenty-five minutes so we sat in the shade overlooking the boats in the marina. Little did I know that as our name was called, much like Oprah has her "aha" moments, my "Kevin Smith" moment was about to happen. The host, who spoke very little English and hid his petite frame under his over-sized smokey pink sunglasses, showed us to our table. My husband took his seat and as I started to pull out my chair, the host said something in broken English about using the chair. I didn't understand and I said, "Sure, you can absolutely use it!" He laughed and shook his head as he pointed to me, then back to the chair I was about to sit in, then back to me and then back to the chair one more time for good measure. He said, "You should use this chair, for heavy." I thought to myself, "For heavy what?" Then it hit me like a swift kick from the Pillsbury doughboy himself... he meant me! After the meal was over I couldn't help but look around at the people who were much larger than me, sitting in the plastic chairs. The 400lb woman next to us gave me the acknowledging "fatty glance" with a partial smile over her chocolate sundae she was gorging on. I smiled back at her with a hint of go eff yourself. I guess my day had finally arrived where I was the blip or shall I say blimp on the radar and was quickly reminded that I still have a long way to go in my weight loss journey. I checked this place for two reasons: 1) Love of sailing drove me to see why "Schooner" (still mystified....must just be the views....but I get plenty of such views in my daily life so not that swayed here), and 2) walking distance from a friend's house where we saw it advertised on Guy Fieri's lame-ass cloned cookie-cutter consolation prize show on Food Network. (Food Network "Star" fatso Guy stuffing his begoateed sick blubbery gob with greasy insane diner slingin's in the kitchen of every freakin' episode makes me quite literally nauseated each time I see it, and as a result I pray for his childrens' well-being as he eventually succumbs to cardiac arrest and/or colon cancer.....not that his passing would be such a bad thing for my nausea or Food Network ratings. OK so I have no love lost for this guy. He and Rachel Ray can have brunch in Hell sez me.) But my friend digs his sorry act and we took his advice and walked to Schooner. Not impressive. Standard messy diner fare. Never one to endorse a lardy meal for any reason, the dog's breakfast called the Mess is built just for slobs like Fieri. So if you have a penchant for wearing your sunglasses backward on your neck, wear a hundred pieces of incoherent thrift-store jewelery, and bleach your tips in full douche regalia, you would probably enjoy this messy Mess. I was eager to try Schooner or Later for breakfast brunch just like everybody else in the area since it appeared on "Diners, Drive In's & Dives". I went on a Friday morning with my wife and the wait wasn't so bad - just a few minutes. It is a cool location, and it was a sunny morning no wind - so the setting was outstanding. ...But that's about it. First, the middle-aged blonde woman greeting us was downright grumpy. Like a woman who would rather be doing anything but seating people on a nice patio on a sunny day and getting paid for it. Drinks were brought over quickly, but our breakfast took probably 30 minutes. I watched two larger tables of customers who were seated well after us get their food first. The waitress was pleasant but not around or attentive - so I got up finally and asked about my food - and they blamed the kitchen. Then the food came fairly quickly. I had "The Mess" which is the dish they had on the TV show I believe. It was just average. Nothing special about it at all. Nothing you can't taste at almost any breakfast/brunch restaurant. Nothing special. My wife's omelette was also just pretty average. The price, however, well ABOVE average. Almost $10 a plate for eggs and hash browns basically. In summary: Nice location. The "Mess" is anything but.... Schooner or Later is a great place to eat (period). One of their specialties is a plate called the 'Mess', which is a breakfast item (or, depending on what time you stumble out the LBC bars, it could be a late snack) that embodies everything that is right about a tasty, and filling breakfast platter. I saw this place featured on Diners, Drive ins and Dives and just had to make the trek to experience this concoction made of eggs, potatoes, onions, cheese, etc. Perhaps the "money shot", for me at least, was sopping up the 'Mess' with the fresh sourdough bread that comes with the platter. So good...so good. And, the ambiance is nice too. Sitting outside by the marina on a sunny morning with a huge plate of food and a bloody mary felt just right. I am a big fan of a good bloody mary with a hearty breakfast, and the bloody mary at Schooner or Later was not too bad. But really, the 'Mess' was the star of the show. I first saw this place on "Diner's, Drive-Ins, and Dives," so I had to check it out myself. It's a breakfast and lunch place at a Long Beach marina, but I only went for breakfast, albeit four days in a row on my recent trip to La-La Land. One look at the menu and I knew exactly what I wanted: crab and cheddar omelete. My bf and I came here due to the review from food network. It was alright. It isn't something to rave about though. We ordered the infamous "the mess" and it was the mess and at first it was good but the more you eat it..the greasier it gets. Its just hash browns with some corn beef and tons of cheese and everything is just greased over. We also ordered the eggs benedict and that wasn't great either. Also, the line was ridiculous and I don't know if it was because of food network or if its always this way. The food was not very flavorful so I don't really know what keeps people coming. The atmosphere is great though because it is right by the water and there is outdoor seating and there is also an outdoor bar which is great while you wait an hour for a table. We tried to come out one other time but the wait was over an hour so we went elsewhere. This place is alright, but I would not make the drive just for their food. read more

I wasn't expecting much because I've been to several places like these by the beach and food is almost always mediocre. Especially when it comes to huevos rancheros or chilaquiles. But this placed changed the game. The food was immaculate. I ordered the chilaquiles with green sauce with two over easy eggs. My friend ordered the impossible burger with sweet potato fries and she adored the dish. I kept eating her fries too! Absolutely delicious. I wanted to make sure to leave a review about this place because we had such a long day yesterday and to have brunch and it go this perfect made our exhaustion disappear. This little brunch spot is an absolute gem! The views are stunning, whether you catch the sunrise or not, sitting outside by the harbor with the boats and water as your backdrop is unforgettable. Inside, the space has a cozy, laid-back vibe, but the outdoor seating is definitely the star of the show. The food was incredible! everything we ordered was a solid 10/10. Portion sizes were generous, prices were fair, and the flavors were spot on. Service was just as amazing as the food. Both ladies who took care of our table were so kind and attentive; our drinks were always full, and they made sure we had everything we needed. Consistently Solid, Great Food and Service We have been to Schooner or Later numerous times and love the food as well as the location. Now I invited a group of almost 20 friends for brunch. Making the reservation was easy and professional. On the day, everybody of the team did their best to make sure we had a good time. They set up the tables exactly like we wanted, food was brought out timely and at the same time for everybody, all my friends loved the good quality. The waitresses were friendly, fast, and efficient. Next time I plan on having a painless celebration with peace of mind in a trustworthy location, Schooner or Later will be on top of my list. The wait time on a weekend is a little over whelming but the fact that they sell drinks such as cocktails, mimosas and coffee before even getting seated is a great addition! The service is amazing and the food is finger licking. I have been coming here for a while with my family and they all seem to enjoy it. I usually order "the mess" which gives you the best of everything. It includes hash browns, egg, bell peppers, onion and cheese. It is mouth watering! I don't know what the hype is all about, after we have seen this restaurant featured on the food network channel we headed down there just this weekend n Sat the 23rd of March and we wanted to try out the mess or I believe it was messy or A HEART ATTACK waiting to happen however it was very greasy I mean very greasy and anyone with a heart problem take your pills before eat. and the pancakes tasted like oil and were not cooked and were tastless...As a local person this place is not what the TV show protraits it to be... The food is decent but the service was HORRIBLE! Went right to our table and waited 20 minutes until some frumpy, mean looking girl comes by to take our order. No hello, no "my name is," nothing. After she took our drink order and food order...she never came back! We had to ask anoter waitress about our drinks. The other waitress ended up basically serving us and we could clearly see our original waitress was still serving other tables. Hello T.O. this joint is over exposed and over priced and if you plan to have breakest at lunch maybe this is the place for you. Our experience was not all that good and when we were there last Sunday lots of people around us were not happy campers and left there food on the tables after along one and half hr wait it is disappointing. I've been to Schooner's twice up to this point and I got to say it is definitely a great brunch place. The only 2 draw backs are that the wait to get seated is usually no less than 45 minutes and sometime because of how busy it is, it takes a little bit longer for the waiters/waitresses to get back to your table for refills but not enough for me to take off a star. It's right on the harbor so the atmosphere, the area and the food make it a place I wouldn't pass on when it's an option for brunch. read more

Ohhh, what a crappy visit!! The owner of this place is a dog-hating, freaking JERK! Our food was cold and bland; however, the actual service was pretty good. I feel sorry for the waitresses who have to work under this arrogant, piss-ant owner! Upon leaving, my husband used the restroom and witnessed a cook leave the restroom WITHOUT WASHING HIS HANDS! I had never been to Schooner Or Later before but we decided to try it because I know it is a popular place. The food was bad. And the service was even worse. Not a smile from our overweight , brown haired waitress full of attitude. Our plates were thrown at us and we were never checked back on until our bill came. Bring PBR back on tap! Was my favorite place to go to growing up, especially after a morning of surfing. Chelsey's mess is the best, but they have changed the name of it. It's always busy so not sure why they needed to change the name of the best breakfast they have but at least it still tastes good. Can't beat the view. On a weekend I would get there early or plan to wait for an hour or so while you enjoy a drink from their drink cart! read more

This is another really good place to take non-locals to for breakfast. The food is pretty good, but the ambiance just can not be beat. Outside dining in the Long Beach Marina with the sun and all of the boats around you. It's heaven. If you don't try the Galley Mess, you really haven't been there. With a schooner of beer, of course. Next to boat docks and down the way from Ballast Point, this is a go-to breakfast spot. They are only open for bfast/lunch and close early, usually around 3pm, so make sure to get there before then. Waits are long on weekend mornings but when the weather's nice, sitting outside makes for a great experience. Their lunch selection is okay, but the breakfast is often a 10/10. Nonetheless, presentation and portion sizes were respectable. The last comment is that food here is quite pricey but that reflects the likely high rent of a restaurant in 2nd and PCH. Ola still exceeded expectations and provided a more than pleasant meal.
