Amazing bakery! This is a must each year for my mom's birthday celebration. The personnel is very helpful making sure that you receive the service needed. I love to have each cake with custom detail and they do that exactly as I want it. I can be picky at times. The bakery has two areas where a customer can pick up items that have been pre ordered or a line where you can choose to pick what you would like. Not noisy at all, their service keeps lines moving along pretty fast. The Swedish princess cake is a must for my mom's birthday each year. This year I also picked up a mango mousse cake that was so delicious! From my experience, I been buying cakes at Schubert's for years and each cake is soft, moist and not overly sweet. That is what I love the most. I can't do overly sweet cakes. The mango mousse was a total surprise. I could really taste the mango, and that creamy mousse went very well with the cakes bringing it all together. read more

Wow, just WOW. Have I died and gone to heaven? Just attended a memorable birthday party where this raspberry creme birthday cake was served and I kid you not, after taking a first bite of birthday cake served ... the person next to me and I looked at each other and the look in our eyes was saying "this is THE best cake I have ever eaten!" A light, not too sweet yet bursting with raspberry flavor with a layer of almond paste. I was told this type of cake is made at many different bakeries of various quality and variations; called a "Princess cake". I can be a princess everyday but I must insist... my cake will only be from Schubert's! Located on Clement Street. Am sure I will be making a trip there soon. Until then.... yes, I was "that" guest who asked for seconds on the cake... in fact, everyone at our table had a second slice of heaven on earth that day with Schubert's princess cake. read more

I've had their cakes through friends but never ordered one myself until now. You can call their phone number and even if you don't leave a message, they actually call you back! I ordered for a small 6" strawberry shortcake to be ready two days later and it was good to go day-of. And since I was already at the bakery, I went ahead and ordered other delicious items like their chocolate croissant, almond croissant, and some princess cake slices. All of them were delicious! The service was fairly quick and they workers are always willing to check in to see if you're already being waited on (there were 3 individual workers out front!!) Parking in the area will be a challenge. Their location is in the busy Clement St but look around long enough and a car will eventually leave. I will definitely be coming back again - going to try a different cake when given the chance. The tiramisu looked divine. read more

I was always interested in trying out their Apple Pies here. I heard it was delicious. I passed by today and decided to walk in and check out their selections. I gravitated towards the Mini Dutch Apple Pie. I enjoyed it, with a top crumb that was still crispy and apple filling that was just right. It was not too sweet but gave a satisfied feeling when finished. The bakery is very simple looking with a few glass vases that display their pastry, tarts, pies, and cakes. It gives off a nice feeling when you walk into this bakery, clean and brightly lit. The workers were nice and friendly. I would buy a whole Apple Pie or try their Fruit Tarts next time. read more

Got gifted a princess cake for my birthday, and I can give said cake the most coveted asian review - "not too sweet". Jokes aside, this cake was good looking, unique, and very tasty. The price to quality is one of the best, and I loved how they included a happy birthday chocolate. The cake was very fresh, soft, and moist, yet held its shape quite well during a bumpy ride home. Est in 1911 definitely leaves its mark - and once you see what this bakery has to offer, you'll be hooked. Excited to try their other pastries! read more

Never disappoints. One of the few bakeries that I consistently buy birthday cakes from because it's not that sweet, feels delicate, and has a good price point. Their Black Forest Cake did not disappoint. The cake is beautifully layered with moist chocolate sponge, light whipped cream, and just the right amount of tart cherries to balance the sweetness. The chocolate shavings on top add a nice texture without being overwhelming. What I really appreciate is that it's not overly sweet--each bite is well-balanced, making it easy to enjoy without feeling too heavy. If you're looking for something in particular, call ahead of time, which is what I always do. They won't always have everything on the menu, unfortunately, since it's so popular. I decided to try out the Black Forest cake, and it did not disappoint! The cherry flavor definitely stood out and was stronger than the chocolate, but I found it so yummy and moist -- just what you want in a cake. For birthday cakes, since the Black Forest is so well decorated, they will add a white chocolate bark with a happy birthday message. Just be sure to go early and ask, as popular cakes tend to sell out! read more

Schubert's is in my neighborhood and I have been there many times. Their Swedish princess cake is my favorite and the best in San Francisco. I was there last week to buy a 10 inch Swedish princess cake for a birthday. They also have so many other cakes and pastries which are more than appetizing. Too bad they now close two days a week nowadays unlike in the past. It's "dangerous" just go in there to browse. I never succeeded in going in without buying anything! The service people are very patient and nice. The best time is when there are is no line so you can take your sweet time to look over every single item in the shop. read more

As a self-proclaimed connoisseur of all things dessert, I consider myself well-versed in the delicate and beautiful art of the cream puff. I went to Schubert's Bakery on a rainy day with my boyfriend in search of the perfect puff. Little did I know... the cream puffs crafted at Schubert's were pastry perfection. Experience: Walking into Schubert's, I noticed how quaint and organized everything was. The employees were very sweet and helpful. It was very easy to select what we wanted to eat. The air is thick with the sweet, buttery scent of freshly baked goods. The pastry case gleams under the warm lights. But despite all of the tempting options, the cream puff reigned supreme. The Pastry: The pâte à choux shell is light, airy, and perfectly crisp. It holds just the right amount of structural integrity. It manages to be sturdy enough for a gentle bite, while also being delicate enough to cradle the luscious filling without everything collapsing in my hands. While some cream puffs suffer from excessive dryness or an egg aftertaste, Schubert's is able to create a balanced and light flavor, with a whisper of vanilla and a golden, toasty, light exterior shell. The Filling: Omg. This is where Schubert's sets itself apart from mediocre bakeries in San Francisco. The cream is impossibly smooth, rich, and carries a depth of flavor only achieved from quality ingredients. I might even call this a velvety dream.... beautifully thick but light enough to melt on my tongue. read more

Schubert's, not to be confused with Sherbert. That's a type of ice cream silly. If there is a well renowned bakery in San Francisco it's my duty to try it and confirm. I like Schubert's, I got a couple different items on 2 occasions. I wouldn't say I was disappointed but I will say maybe the baked pastry items aren't their main specialty. The cakes and whole pies in here looked insane. I think that's the move at this place. As far as the bakery items goof but not great. For my birthday I want you to get my cake from here though okay? Word on the street from my Bay Area friends, Yelper reviews, and social media posts is that this is one of the well-worth iconic bakeries to visit for a crafted cake. The bakery has been in operation for over a century so it's a given that they know their stuff and are beloved for it. My longtime friend wanted to visit Schuberts to pick up a cake she'd been yearning for after first trying it decades ago. Surprised I'd never been, we made a day out of it and embarked to the city to visit the bakery. Upon arrival at the shop, it was quiet, fast-paced, and efficiently run by welcoming staff. You're able to view their pastry and cake display while patiently waiting to place, pay, and receive your order. As of September 2023, the infamous bakery has no indoor seating and operates as take-out only. They also have a pickup order window which is beneficial for placing orders online. Schubert's is favored for their diverse selection of cakes. They sell traditional cakes with a flare as well as fruit tarts, pastries, and cookies. For those into sweet things, this is your place since they're heavy on the mousse, whipped cream, and lots more. I've never been a fan of cake--for me, it's too sweet, dense, creamy, and heavy. But for Schubert's, I made the exception to try their iconic Princess Cake. It was moist on the inside, fruity and creamy with each layer, and divine with the marzipan. This cake was ultra sweet for me but I'm glad I got to try their famous slice. My friend got their Berry Blast Cake. Cakes are sold in slices as well as different sizes. Depending on the occasion you can buy in-store or online to pick up which allows customization. For those living in the Bay Area, Schubert's is a landmark known for their cakes and nestled in the Richmond District. Great cakes for celebrations but must order ahead. The princess cake is my favorite with the almond fondant. The staff are sweet and understanding whenever we reserve a cake and make wonderful suggestions. The interior is cute with warm lighting. I love a good princess cake because c'mon, the name itself is too cute! It's also my sister's favorite cake, so when I was hunting for a satisfactory cake, I got a ton of recommendations for this bakery. Schubert's absolutely delivers when it comes to a princess cake. The marzipan coating is super thin and soft, making it pretty palatable. Some bakeries make it so that the marzipan layer is thick and hard which, as much as I love almond paste/almond meal, is not enjoyable at all. I then end up peeling off the layer and just eating the innards. Fear not, this was not the case with Schubert's! The sponge cake and the fillings are incredibly light and airy. The thin layer of raspberry jam helps tie it all together by adding some tart sweetness. It's also decorated beautifully with minimalistic details - baby macarons, tiny stars, leaves, and patterned chocolates. A must try! read more

I visited Schubert Bakery in San Francisco for the first time and it was absolutely worth it. The service was great, very friendly even though there was a small line. So sad to witness our favorite bakery decline so drastically, first by removing beloved treats like the fabulous assortment of tea cookies; lately the wonderful apricot tart has become a tasteless mess and the mousse cakes are barely mediocre. WOWWW! I always used to get cakes and cookies (madelines are a must here) here as a kid, everyone in my family ordered various cakes over the years and have never been disappointed. I visited again recently, introduced my chocolate fanatic friends to their array of mini specialty cakes and they all fell utterly in love. Head over heels IN LOVE. I don't think you can go wrong with of their treats here. I even tried their crème puffs, literally so soft and airy without being overly sweet. There isn't anything i've had that I've strongly disliked. I've had friends who have worked here, as well, and bakers start so early and are so detailed. Just the dedication and care they put in has been unmatched. A local gem. It gets busy for good reason! But it's 100% worth it. read more

I got the princess cake for my nephew's birthday. This was my first princess cake aside from IKEA so I may not be the best judge. It was well received although a little too sweet for our tastes, especially the marzipan. The jammy layers in between were really rich and moist. Excellent cakes, pastries, and desserts from this shop. The Swedish princess cake is probably the most well-known item here, but honestly everything we ate is incredible, such as the white chocolate raspberry mousse and petit fours. There is usually a line, but service is efficient. Highly recommend this place for dessert. read more

Did you know they call it Swedish Princess Cake because it makes you feel like a princess when you eat it? But no, seriously, we have been coming here for years. It is a reliable go to for birthday cakes and special treats alike. In recent years, they have only seemed to get better and better, which I find rare. There is also now a parklet out front so you can eat your sweet even sooner. For years, the Swedish Princess Cake has been our go to and, frankly, it was so delicious that it prevented us from branching out for a while...The marzipan, berries and sponge are perfectly and not too sweet. The black forest cake also has a great balance of tartness and sweetness. You really can't go wrong with their pastry case! Another strong business to grace a delicious block of Clement. Schubert's is a bakery that we hope will stay around for a long time - may their cakes never stop blessing us. read more

I've gotten my son's birthday and graduation cakes here for thirteen years. His favorite is the chocolate mousse with whipped cream and he doesn't really care as much for cakes from anywhere else. This year I ordered my cake ahead as usual, paid online, and was set to pick up his cake the day before his birthday (they were closed on his birthday and the day after). My work schedule blew up and I had to work last-minute, things got a little crazy and I wasn't able to pick up the cake or arrange for anyone else to do it. I felt sad about it, though my son said it wasn't a big deal. I went in two days later to see if I could still pick it up, and they were so incredibly kind and generous about it. They got me a fresh cake (they sell cakes that aren't picked up) and wrote the message and did it all with smiles and understanding - they really went beyond anything I expected. Honestly it made me want to cry. I hope everyone goes here and is as kind to them as they were to me. read more

Some amazing SF history on this same site-- since I911? In the queue, ladies reminisced about their childhoods and told me how the counter was a former U-shape. I came in 5 minutes before closing one time and they still had 4 cakes left. If you want a specific cake it's probably best to preorder but if not, then all their cake selections are pretty good.

Unfortunately, that's where things started to crumble. It's like going to see your favorite artist live. You've watched the videos, memorized the songs, and paid for the experience. But instead of the electric performance you imagined, you get someone lip-syncing and barely connecting with the crowd. That was this place in dessert form. We ordered the Mango Bingsoo on our first visit, and when it arrived, we were surprised by how small the portion was. The guy next to us even looked over and said, "Whatever that is, I'm getting that next time." He shouldn't have. The Bingsoo looked great but was bland, and the "snow" was more chunky ice than soft shave. The Thai Tea Roti was also not what I expected. It came with Thai tea ice cream and sauce alongside a roti that was fried to a crunch. Interesting idea, just not the best execution. The sauce and ice cream needed a stronger Thai tea flavor to balance the crispy roti, and the flavors never quite came together. Overall, A Buttercup nails the aesthetics but misses the flavor. If you're here for the photos, you'll be happy. If you're here for the taste, you'll leave with a full camera roll and an unsatisfied sweet tooth.

With most cookies, I usually can only tolerate having a few bites, or need to have a coffee in hand to enjoy it, but I didn't feel like that was the case here: both treats were delicious. The store is larger than it looks with some seating along the sides and back. I opted a small cup of the lychee black tea and auntie Kendra's garden. The lychee black tea was INCREDIBLE, strong, strong tea and fruit flavor, perfectly creamy, and not too sweet. The more memorable of the two, however, was definitely Auntie Kendra. It was a vanilla base with salty plum juice, passion fruit, and preserved lemon peel. The delicate vanilla, the lemon aroma without the sour tang, the floral, exotic passion fruit, and the unexpected punch of salt and earthiness from the plum juice, this is a WHOPPER of a flavor. Every bite allowed me a new appreciation of the layers of flavors in this scoop. While a bit pricy, Garden creamery is on par with the other local ice cream spots in SF and well, the flavors and my enjoyment of them speak for themselves. I will definitely be making more trips out here to try their other flavors!

Overall, Juniper has excellent pastries, and I'll definitely be sure to grab a plain croissant next time to try it out as well - some pastries pack a bit more flavor than others but given how quickly the like moves I'll definitely be back again to try some of their othering offerings soon!

I usually don't drink/like coffee, but the guava cold brew sounded so interesting I couldn't resist. The fruity jasmine tea somehow paired so well with the coffee and made it a nice refreshing drink. I was also lucky enough to try the matcha crepe cake, which I believe they get from Lady M. It had really nice layers and was light, but unfortunately it was a little too sweet for me. Overall a very solid matcha/coffee option in SF. They have a beautiful interior too, perfect for catching up with friends. Servers were sweet as well!
