Almost, they were the only restaurant open around 7pm in front of the silver beach beside ice cream places. The staff were super friendly and very welcoming. Nice and helpful. We ordered 2 grilled salmon sandwiches to go along with fries and lobster soup. We ate in front of the beautiful view of silver beache hills. The salmon was fresh, cooked well , melted in the mouth and tasted very good with their secret sauce. I just felt it might need to be seasoned with gralic or lemon 9/10 The fries were seasoned right and coated with bread crumbles. 10/10 The lobster soup was interesting! Creamy and delicious. It tasted sweet like tomato sauce and creamy with lobster pieces. 10/10 Prices were reasonable , the total was 37$ for 2 person. Schu's sits on the bluff of St. Joseph, which gives you a nice view of lake especially if you're sitting outside. Not only are the views nice, but the service and staff are friendly. There's a nice warmth to everyone's smile, and it seems to transfer over to the food that is served. On Thursday nights, there is a $5 fried chicken special, which comes with your choice of white or dark meat (two pieces) along with mashed potatoes, and cole slaw or vegetables. The fried chicken is the star! Moist meat, crispy skin (not chewy), and flavorful. The mashed potatoes are the supporting cast, and it's homemade to boot! We were are on a getaway at St. Joseph, MI and went to Schu's since it was recommended by a friend. Seating in mid-afternoon and service was quick and friendly. I had a Ring my Bella Portabella burger with roasted pepper and onion with a side of sweet potato fries. Very hearty sandwich and the sweet potato waffle fries were perfect. All in all a very relaxing place for lunch with a great view of the lake. Outdoor seating is also available which is nice and free parking can be found also at a nearby lot just north of the restaurant. read more

We came to this place twice during our recent vacation. Both times food and service were exquisite. Interesting decor. We loved the wooden motifs. We tried spring rolls, calamari, caprese flatbread - all fabulous. My hubby loved the steak and shrimp. The chicken Marsala was a bit strange as they add a pumpkin purée to it for some reason. From all the fish we tried, the walleye was the best tasting, however the mustard sauce they put on top was a bit too much and overpowering the taste of the fish. I would put that dressing on the salmon in the salmon salad dish, where it was a bit too dry. We had local Kolsch beer both times and enjoyed it. Stella also did not disappoint. We stopped at Schu's for a relatively quick and "cheap" bite before heading home. We all enjoyed our meal! I ordered the lobster mac and cheese (to be made gluten free). I honestly really loved this pasta! It was made differently and with different sauce since it had to be gluten free. So I believe ordering it normally would be even better than mine, and I still really loved my gluten free version! The sauce was really creamy and cheesy tasting. I also ordered the creme brûlée for dessert and this was pretty good too! I think this is a good place to stop if you're looking for food that is semi close to the beach, since the only restaurants on the beach are food stands and not places to sit down and eat. Family friendly and great variety of options for food on the menu. Service was great! Our waitress was very attentive. It has a bar feel to the ambiance but in a clean way. It also has outdoor seating. Only two things I would change is that they don't reseat you if you sit outside and it rains and the poor guy working the host stand had to call every customer when their table was ready. We typically sit in a booth located near the bar. The food is always super hot and delicious and the bartenders are awesome! Excellent choices of craft beer and wine, which complement your food choices. You can't go wrong with the Perch dinner or any of the pasta dishes. The lunch was great and there have been many improvements since my first review 8 years ago. They have added more healthy and flavor options over the years. My dining partner said it's the best Reuben in town and I had the winter special Power Bowl. Quinoa, numerous veggies, your choice of protein or Mediterranean veggies (I added the ahi tuna, my weakness as a veg head) and it was really (really) good. It was prepared perfectly and lots of flavor. Looking at other diners dishes, everything looked well plated and delicious as well. Also, don't miss the free popcorn machine. My co-workers and I were in town for work and came upon this place as we were walking the small downtown. My favorite part of this restaurant was the delicious seasonal chicken apple salad I ordered. It was sooooo good I wanted more when it was gone. I was torn between getting the salad or one of the other many food options. It was a tough decision. Everyone elses food looked amazing too. Our waitress was friendly and answered any and all questions we had about the drinks and food. We sat outside on the patio, which can be chilly when it's shaded, especially with the breeze. Great place in downtown St. Joe with a view of the water (if you sit by the windows). It was decorated well for Christmas and even better for us since we got to sit by the fireplace. Good beer, wine, and liquor selection. Of course my fiancé gets the stuffed blue cheese olives every time he comes here. The wings are very light and very crispy. Went to Schu's this afternoon with my wife and let me tell u not very often u see a manager bussing tables picking up trash n napkins off the floor n constantly helping his server's out we were impressed. Then our food came out and i got the French dip which was amazing and my wife got a chicken sandwich. Food was great our server I'm srry I can't remember ur name did a fantastic job. For being a busy Sunday afternoon right around noon they did a terrific job because the place didn't seem that busy at all. I asked the hostess if we could put 2 tables together so she lead us to the table then just walked away. ??? OK, so hubby and I moved the 2 seat table to the 4 seat booth. My mom, who walks with a cane had to not only walk up the 3 stairs to that seating area but also back down. Very happy with our experience over the weekend! I called on the way to the restaurant to see if there was a wait. The host said they had a few opened tables and we shouldn't have to wait. There was a table ready when we arrived and she already placed the highchair at the table! Service was reasonable for the day and time. We ordered beers and a children's entree first. She brought his entree in a reasonable time. I ordered lobster bisque to start- VERY GOOD!! I ordered the baja shrimp tacos as an entree. There were very flavorful and very filling. My husband had the perch sandwich and said he would order it again. It took awhile to receive our check but other servers started cleaning our table while we waited.
