Ryan R from Scooterworks sent me a message on Yelp on his personal account to correct the time line. More time had passed than I had previously thought. The failed repair was in May, we agreed to a drill and tap. Ryan said he did a helicoil. When the bike was still in the shop the service rep we spoke to over the phone that told us about the stripped screw said SW doesn't do helicoil and that we needed a drill and tap. We paid an extra $150 for the repair, which ever repair SW said they did, in addition to the other repairs and tune up we were getting. Three weeks after getting the bike home my wife tells me the bike is making a funny noise. I check things out and the drain screw is missing. Inside the threads are damaged. A longer screw of the same size fits perfect, but the damage to the transmission bearings is done. Nobody touched the transmission oil drain screw since the bike left the shop. I left SW a couple of messages over a period of about two weeks before talking to a service rep. The service rep told me that SW will not kick in any cash or service time as a result of the failed repair. Ryan clarified in his message that he didn't tell me to "pound sand". To me, no repair time or cash kicked in to fix damage as a result of a failed repair is telling me to pound sand. Two and a half months go by and before I tried to resolve this one last time, I left SW a message and wrote my original review. At that point we were about four months post failed repair. SW left me a message back, I tried to call the service dept back on multiple occasions over the next two weeks and got the machine every time and didn't bother leaving a message. read more

STRIKE ONE! So I have been looking for a Stella with a sidecar and finally found a pre-owned one at Scooterworks. After a little back and forth we come up with a price. I paid a deposit over the phone and then set up a time to meet. They said I could pick up the scooter on Tuesday at 1PM... I assumed they needed the morning to prep the scooter for delivery (my Father was in the car business for years and prep is what dealers do to make a good impression on the customer, Detail the vehicle, give it a good once over... that sort of thing). Keep in mind I am driving 3 hours with a trailer to come pick this scoot up. I am also on a nit of a time crunch and asked if I could come earlier and the sales woman was insistent that I could not come before 1pm. So Tuesday I show up and the scoot is not clean, blinkers are no working, bolts missing from the sidecar fender and when I brought this up I was told "you are getting this for a good price and its used" So basically "Shut up and take it" The scoot is fine and once I got it home I made some quick fixes and a wash it looks great! STRIKE TWO! While I was there my Mother in law asked me to pick up a truck for her scoot. I was given a box with a nice trunks with what looked like all the parts. I should have done my due diligence and inspected (remember 3 hour drive each way)... Last night installing the trunk I found most of the hardware looked like it had been used already and we where missing at least 1/2 the bolts and all of the nuts... So a trip to the hardware store we where back in business... Not super happy but the M.I.L lover her little trunk so that's good. STRIKE THREE! This is the big one. The lady who brokered the deal must not have ever sold a vehicle because she messed it up big time! No title transfer, not the proper signatures, nothing that would make you believe it was sold form a dealership. In fact I'll bet there might have been some under the table dealing as I brought cash to the deal. Long story short the SOS (Michigan DMV) office and I became friendly over the past 2 days... It cost me time, money and frustration for a deal that should have taken 10 mins. So as they say Three strikes and your out! I will never, EVER do business with them again. From what I hear on forums and the interwebs they are not long for this world anyway. I guess thats what happens when you put greedy salespeople in charge and stop caring about the customer and just focus on the money! read more

My scooter broke down the other day so I decided to take it to Scooterworks since it is close to my house. I wish I never had. When I dropped off the scooter I told them that it had an electrical problem. Sometimes it would start and sometimes it would not. The service manager spent most of the time telling me that Aprilia scooters are crappy and unreliable and they really don't like to work on them. I wish he would have told me that before I pushed it over a mile to his service shop. I was told that I would receive a call in 24 hours to update me on the repair progress. I called each and every day and each time I was told that I was next on the list. This went on for 8 days. After I lost my cool and told them that I was on my way to pick up the scooter and take it somewhere else I was magically next on the list again. When I arrived they told me I had a corroded battery cable and they replaced the cable. The scooter worked for one day and died again. I am pretty handy so I decided to take a look myself. I discovered the old corroded cable had not been replaced and they didn't even bother to secure the cable to the battery. I bought a new cable myself and fixed it in 15 minutes. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE!!!!!!!! They are forgetful, have awful customer service and they charge you for work they do not perform!!!!!!! read more

I love Scooterworks! Walk into the gorgeous showroom to a rainbow of scooters. You'll get a friendly greeting from Meridee or perhaps the "Big Cheese" himself. Need your oil changed? Say hi to Bernie in the service center and it'll be taken care of in 20 minutes. You can enjoy a cup of coffee and some popcorn in the rider lounge while you wait. I believe this is the only Genuine dealership in the city, so if you're looking for the beginner-friendly Buddy or the gorgeous Stella, this is your spot. This place continues to underwhelm me...Took my scooter in for an oil change today and asked the service guy to adjust my clock, top off the coolant, and check if it needed a tune-up. The service manager, Rob, was extremely distracted. He was managing the ringing phone and making apologies for his service guys not being around. After 30 minutes, my scooter had an oil change. I asked him if he topped off the coolant and he said, "Uh, I forgot." I waited an additional 10 minutes while he answered the phone and fumbled around with my scooter, wondering where the hell the proper screw was to insert the screwdriver to access the coolant. And he's a Service Manager? Shouldn't he know my model of scooter since this is the place I bought it from? Kinda like a BMW dealership not knowing how to service a BMW?!?! Anyway...he didn't adjust my clock and instead bitched about someone's Kymco (not my make of scooter) and how he should have charged the previous customer labor for adjusting the clock. Huh? He didn't adjust my clock. jerk. The best part? I had a coupon for a $39.99 oil change that INCLUDED labor. He tried to charge me extra for the labor. Not so fast, pussycat. Read the fine print in YOUR coupon. As I have always said, this place is run by a bunch of clowns, both on the sales side and the service side. I'll take my scooter elsewhere for service. read more

I dropped off my scooter for service 4 weeks ago and mentioned that I needed a battery as well. In those 4 weeks they have never called me once. Also, they never ordered the battery until 3 weeks after I dropped it off. So now the battery is not in. I actually had to drive there last Saturday, in the car, to get an answer as to the status of my Vespa. They told me they would call me and let me know. They still have never called me once. I don't trust them anymore. I really wish I had taken it somewhere else. But now I am stuck. read more

I bought my scooter five years ago from Scooterworks. The salesperson was really helpful, professional, knowledgeable -- and thankfully low-pressure. Each time I bring the bike back for oil changes, etc., the guys at the shop have been excellent: they know scooters inside-and-out and their prices are reasonable. Riding my scooter is a blast in itself, and going to Scooterworks and talking scooters with the staff is part of that whole experience (I mean, if I wanted a cold, adversarial relationship, I'd ditch the scooter for the experience of a car and a dealership). read more

Mind-blowing customer service is something that's few and far between. Meridee... You f*ckin rock!!! Hands down the most engaged, knowledgeable, understanding, patient, and above all, friendliest person I've dealt with in a long, long time. I purchased my Buddy 50 scooter this past weekend and had the pleasure of being helped by Meridee at Scooterworks. I cannot put into words enough how helpful and attentive she was. From explaining the little things to covering the big - she really made my experience memorable. During the test ride she assisted me with exactly what I needed without being pushy or hovering over me while I adjusted to the scooter. After the test ride, she gave me some time to think and helped other customers - she made herself available for my (oh so many) questions and never made me feel like I was bothering or annoying her. Meridee helped me get some accessories as well and definitely didn't try to oversell me or push useless crap my way - She knows her sh*t and I thoroughly enjoyed working with her! One of the main things I credit this to is the fact that you can tell she genuinely loves working there. She's an avid rider, as she expressed to me, and she shared some of her own experiences which was awesome and helpful. Towards the end of the transaction, and after getting to ring the "Purchase Bell" for all to hear, the other folks who rolled my new bad boy out were very nice and cheerful as well. I didn't get their names unfortunately, but a young guy who I'm assuming worked in the service department, and a young girl with tattoos. Overall, I really have zero complaints about my experience here. I will need to come back to get some service done so I'm looking forward to another great round of customer service! Scooterworks has been my go to shop for moped scooter advice and maintenance. I have been going here for two years and have had all good experiences. They do a standard tune up for me every year on my scooter for $100 and they did all the repair and maintenance on my scooter when I got in an accident. They are great with communication as they provide text update while they are working on the bike and they answer questions whenever I text them. If you are a beginner and don't even know where to start, this is the place for you. read more

My scooter wasn't starting even though I replaced the old battery. I went to Scooterworks for suggestions. The guys tried to trouble shoot by suggesting that I check the fuse. They gave me a free fuse to test out my scooter. Sure enough, it was the fuse. My scooter starts!! Amazing work!! Thanks Scooterworks!!! I think it's about time Scooterworks makes a change!! They make a great product, but their salesmanship needs a serious overhaul. I purchased my Buddy last year and personally referred two others who purchased a Buddy. I have never seen a lack of customer service from someone like I've seen with Ken (sale manager, right!). What value does this guy bring to Scooterworks. You might as well put up a kiosk in the showroom and let people order and pay on-line. You may see an increase in sales. People want to feel good about their purchase, they don't want to feel bad about taking up his time. Read the reviews, move him somewhere other than sales and you will see customer service opinions increase. Remember, we have a lot of other choices now. You're not the only show in town!! read more

I stopped in last week to ask some questions about the 50cc Roughhouse. After an hour or so of drilling Kevin with questions I was ready to take the plunge. He went over everything with me-- from the bikes mechanics to Chicago's rules/regulations and taxes,etc. Kevin was very patient and knowledgeable. I took my Genuine Buddy in for a new starter and oil change a year and a half ago. At the time, I was unsure if the scooter wouldn't start because of a bad battery or bad starter. I got them both replaced. I connected the battery to a trickle charger over the winter and put it back in after the thaw. The battery worked for maybe a month and then the scooter wouldn't start and the battery wouldn't take a charge. I took the battery back. Scooterworks gave me a used battery that lasted about 8 months. Same thing happened. If maintained correctly, I was told the battery should last 2-4 years. I brought the dead battery back this weekend, and they said while that is the type of battery they sold, they had no record of me ever buying the battery at Scooterworks in Chicago. The manager came over and checked the computer himself. They did have a record of the starter and oil change. Weird!!! Never going back after they accused me of lying about the purchase at their store and not honoring the warranty. My choices were to "leave or buy a new battery from them;" I vote with my wallet and my feet!! If this convinces even one person to buy your battery somewhere else, or at Batteris plus, which is what I ended up doing, my 410 characters were not a waste. Batteries Plus has an amazing warranty, and the battery was cheaper there. Happy Scooting! read more

Oh Scooterworks... how our relationship has changed. This review is based solely on the service department, not sales. I have had nothing good to say about the service department since the new manager, Fred started. Before, I would've easily have given Scooterworks 4-5 stars. 1. I stopped in late August to ask for an estimate and for the parts to be ordered after my Buddy was backed into. I was told that only the service manager could order parts and he would call me later in the afternoon. Never received a call, then I called a week later and they had no record of the estimate or the parts I needed. So- I was asked by the manager to email my copy of the estimate and he would order the parts since I couldn't read a word on the estimate. Fine. I emailed early September and called a couple weeks later when I didn't get a response. This is how the call went-- Manager: "What parts did you need?" Me: "I have no idea, I emailed you the list, I couldn't read it... remember?" Manager: "Oh, right, when did you email?" Me: "Sept. 9" Manager: "Okay, I'll look for it and place the order". Me: "How long for parts?" Manager: "A week and a half, maybe two" Weeks later after receiving no phone call about the parts coming in, I call again, and have to go through the same thing, but this time he claims they have been ordered but are on back order, so it'll be another 1.5 weeks. This has been the situation every time I call "1.5 more weeks" up until now and I still haven't' seen a part yet (3.5 months after my first order request). 2. The service people, especially the old manager (circa 2 years ago) were super polite and friendly. Now, they act like anyone coming in is a total nuisance. I've never stopped by for service unannounced, so I don't think I'm worthy of that sort of treatment. I really don't like to patronize businesses that act like I'm a second class citizen... is it because I'm not as cool as you?? 3. The day I stopped in for the estimate I had my brake lever fixed from said clobbering. I was told it would be 45 min. I walked around the sales area while I waited and was stunned when they were done in 15 min. When they placed the bill in front of me it was for 45 minutes. So- I questioned, they're response, and forgive me if I'm just ignorant, but that they billed for time their little book said it would take, not the actual time, and that's what everyone does. Really? If everyone does that, I'm simply stunned. I get paid for the time it takes me to do something in my job, not how long it takes someone else. The service guy's response "you don't get a break because our guy is more efficient that the book thinks he is". Uh, I pay quite a bit for your service, so I would hope you are hiring efficient employees. 4. I've left several messages for them in the last few months and have never received a response, ever. So, I just try until I get through these days... sometimes takes a few days of calling before someone actually answers. I'm looking for a replacement shop, if anyone has any suggestions, please share. I love my Buddy, but keeping it in good shape using Scooterworks has turned into a nightmare. read more

Terrible place to receive service repair! Don't waste your time here! I was looking for a place in the city to take my Honda Metropolitan to get my right side mirror replaced. This place was a bit out of my way, but I decided to try it. I called before taking it in, and was assured that if I take the bike in to get the exact repair details, they would be able to order the part within a week. So I take my scooter up there and explain that I need a new side mirror. Dave was out of town at a Scooter Convention of some sort, and I can't remember the woman's name who was taking care of me. She told me that she would order the part for my side mirror and call me when the part comes in. Two weeks go by, and I thought it was odd that I hadn't received a call from Scooterworks, so I called them. The woman who I met when I went up there answered the phone, and I explained to her that I was waiting on the part for my side mirror and wondered if it shipped. She didn't recall who I was and asked for my name and information again. She almost made it sound like the mirror had never been ordered, but she assured me that they were still waiting on it. So I gave her all of my info again, and decided I would give Scooterworks the benefit of the doubt and hope that the part would come in within a couple of weeks. ONE MONTH LATER I call AGAIN, and ask about the part. The same woman answers the phone and after I ask about the status she says, "Yeah, I told you a couple of weeks ago that we'd call YOU. We'll call you when it comes in!". I'm pretty sure that the side mirror part could have shipped from China faster than where these people ordered it from. I'm guessing that this woman didn't do her job properly or just forgot about me, and I never heard from them ever again. What business does that???? I took my scooter in, showed them the damage and the part I specifically needed, and figured they would call so I could take my scooter back in for them to install the mirror. Who doesn't call?! Scooterworks is extrememly unprofessional, and I will never do business with them again. read more

Fellow scooter enthusiasts, here is my review of a recent visit to Scooterworks for consultation and repair of my vintage Vespa scooter. In a nutshell, these guys are the real deal. They know scooters, they are passionate about their work and they are here to help newbie and old time riders alike. I gave the service department (Fred, John and others) 5 stars because they took the time to tell me what was wrong with my ride, the options to fix it and ultimately they came in under their original estimate. They even documented the fix with photos so I could see what they found when they got into my bike. Yes, they were a few days late on getting the bike up and running - big deal they did the work correctly and under budget and when I called to ask about picking up the bike they were polite and apolagetic about the delay. Other reviews fault Scooterworks because they are busy -- the fact is, they are busy because they know what they are doing and they are one of only a couple of shops in Chicago dedicated to scooters and scooter repair. Infact, I originally brought my scoot to one of their competitors who did the work wrong resulting in a bike that was unsafe to ride. Scooterworks was able to explain why the original repair did not work and how to fix it correctly. After picking up my bike Fred also gave me 10 minutes to discuss the bike and share with me some free knowledge on how to keep it in tip top running condition. Scooterworks is worth the wait! read more

Sorry, but I will not give you more than 1 star. The salespeople were all cool and knowledgeable, but the business is set up so that it is taking advantage of most Chicagoans. If you do any research you will find out that you are plying way to much money for any of their scooters. On top of the MSRP (you will never see anything less than MSRP at Scooterworks) there are bunch of crazy fees besides mandatory tax and registration. Here is an example. if the scooter is $3400, your out the door price will be around $4400 (due to all fees and taxes) They realize the Chicago market is so big so there is plenty of people that will not even question some of these fees. for example, Freight, Set-up, Documentation... Call some other dealers and you will find out, better prices and less fees. And one other person is right they just keep pushing Genuine Scooters products, because this is their product and best profit margin for them. I ended up buying Kymco scooter somewhere else...but called just to see how much the first service would be . $182 for an oil change and valve inspection and adjustment if needed. If you know anything about scooters this job is done in 30 maximum 45 minutes. The best motor and transmission oil will be less then $20 total. So how much do you charge an hour (over $150) for labor. This is crazy Call other shops. There are some even in the same neighborhood. This business is run like a big corporation. Sorry we do not have hundreds of extra dollars, just to throw around. Scooterworks, you must realize you are not the only one in this business. read more

I've been going to SW for the past year and a half, every since I bought my Buddy 50 used on Craigslist. I wish I could upload a picture of what my scooter looked like after it was damaged in a theft and even further damaged by the tow truck. Fred and the gang at SW have been oh so patient with my constant calls regarding the repair and with dealing with my crappy insurance adjuster. I just got it back this weekend and it looks and rides like new. I understand that the service shop is going through some reorganization and I believe Fred will raise the bar in the service department. read more

I've had nothing, but great experience with the staff at Scooterworks. Yes, occasionally they're busy, so is every other business. Everyone has been helpful and they've gone out of their way to make getting a scooter easy. They special ordered a helmet, talked me through everything and showed me how to ride. They did all of this even though I bought a used scooter, from someone else. They've been fantastic and I'd recommend them to anyone. We just bought a Stella scooter from Fred, and we could not be happier. Fred and Nhu-Y were incredibly nice and VERY helpful and knowledgeable. Lots of pertinent information that allowed us to make the right decision about the best scooter for us, and happily special ordered the accessories we wanted! Nhu-Y told me all about the Girls Rides and encouraged me to sign up right then and there! I look forward to learning how to ride our new Stella (um she's a manual) well enough to join the rides! We live right around the corner, so convenience was part of the reason we went there in the first place, but everyone was so fantastic and the scooter so AWESOME that there was no question about where we'd buy from! I dropped my bike off in April for an engine redo. I was given a comprehensive estimate and I had them start the work. While they were in there, they found that my clutch was basically destroyed. At the time, there was one guy in the known Scooter-world who made clutches for my type of bike. They sought him out and learned that he had retired. That means no clutch. No clutch means no bike. The guys at Scooterworks searched high and low, they exploited every source they had. It took 4 months of them calling all over the world and they found me a clutch. When I picked up the bike and paid the bill, they came in under the estimate amount. They really went above and beyond and they have a customer for life in me. read more

Just purchased TWO Genuine Buddy scooters from Scooterworks! Couldn't have asked for a better experience. The staff is extremely friendly, and they know what they're talking about. Didn't feel any type of pressure to make a purchase. They know how to take care of the customers. Ryan helped us at the store, and was completely upfront and honest. He answered all of our questions, and it was apparent that he wasn't just after our money. Dude knows what he's doing!!! I've been here a few times to pick up oil or a spark plug here and there. Plenty of staff around to help out. I had an issue where my left mirror snapped off due to a defective piece. With no hesitation they replaced the mirror free of charge. I guess keeping customers happy is a top priority there. read more

Today was my first visit to Scooterworks to have two new tubeless scooter tires installed and, based upon today's experience, I would urge anyone considering service at this shop to run, not walk, in any another direction. Like others who has reviewed the shop, the staff who greeted me were friendly. However, Fred, the service manager, charged me $255 labor to install two tires, which was arrived at by charging me 3 hours labor X $85, for a job which took them 2 hours to complete. I waited on site from drop off to completion so I can attest reliably and honestly to their actual investment of skilled time/labor. Finally, as a business practice, I was not offered an estimate in advance. I emerged from this bad experience feeling completely ripped off, wouldn't you? I will never return to Scooterworks, despite its ambiance, and I would urge you to do the same, or minimally, to approach service here with heightened skepticism, seeking written estimates for all work, and inquiring about whether you can expect extra dealer margin to be added to your bill, above their actual investment of time/labor. Shame. . .I wanted to like this place. . . and I'm easy to please. Just hate getting ripped off. read more

I was a staunch defender of Scooterworks Chicago, but my encounters with them in the last few months have been horrible. Messed up orders for parts, no returned phone calls, delays on getting repairs completed despite being assured "we're bringing it into the back right now..." . The final straw for me was this afternoon. I went to pick up my scooter after some repairs were done. The new front service desk person brought me over to where it was parked and we immediately saw that the entire front cowl, tire guard, speedometer and handlebars were covered in a layer of grease and dried stuff that was the consistency of dried chewing gum. That was not how I brought the scooter in on Friday afternoon. The front desk person said, "Wow, they sure were messy back there. Well, you know, you could just use some Dawn on that and get it off." My response was, "Do _you_ have some Dawn here to get it off now?" She returned with a can of some spray and proceeded to start wiping one side of the scooter. I am scraping away at all the dried crap with my fingers. "Well, it's not really working. Sorry," was the response after a couple of minutes. Great. COME ON, GUYS! I understand that I'm a newer (4 years?) rider, that I'm a female, and that I spoke to Service Manager (Fred) on Friday and asked him why we never got phone calls returned from him, but really??!? Leaving (or putting) all this crap all over the scooter? Not cool. I am now actively seeking a different place to take my Buddy for service. Any suggestions? Thanks. read more

I've only visited a few times to get a small parts, but the mail order department let me hang around their office while they"placed" my order on their system then walked in the back to get it. Super friendly people, lots of selection. Really care about the black art of scooter tuning and maintenance. Have never used their service department because I do all my own work, but they were nice enough to offer some insights into a carb jetting tuning I was trying out. Get real busy in the start of spring, so don't get your feelings hurt if you go in on April 5th and they are not falling all over you... read more

I continue to be impressed with Scooterworks. I purchased my Buddy 125 there a year ago and it has been a pleasure to continue to work with everybody there. I am always greeted by super friendly staff who are super knowledgeable and incredibly helpful. When I take my scoot in for service, it is always done quickly and with great care. My poor Buddy was knocked over while parked a couple of days ago and I went in convinced a handlebar was going to have to be replaced. Rob took a look at it and fixed it in two seconds flat. Talk about relieved! Rob also took a listen to my scooter, checked my oil and changed my oil all within 15 minutes. So fast! I love Scooterworks and will continue to have my service done there. I trust them to keep my scoot in awesome condition and know it is in good hands while its there! read more

Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. Highly disorganized. I took my scooter in to have them fix a turn-signal light and a problem with it stalling when it rains. As far as I could tell they never took notes on what the problem was and they just let the scooter sit there for weeks without doing anything. When I finally went in to pick up the scooter because I was tired of waiting, they didn't even ask or notice that they hadn't done anything but fix a turn-signal light. After a hellish experience at City Scooter I was so glad to enter the door of Scooterworks. They were friendly, prompt, and spent a lot of time with me event though I didn't drive a scooter and just needed a helmet. Good prices & smiling faces. Fantastic! read more

Soooo, I also went in to Scooter Works today while I was waiting for my tires to be done @ Speedline and before my amazing Gelato experience @ Let them Eat Chocolate. I wasn't ignored, I actually had a quite enlightening and enjoyable conversation with Randall. I was headed to New Lenox to buy a dirt cheap scooter and was second guessing myself. I walked in to Scooter Works, was immediately greeted by Randall and some other cutie guy behind the counter. We talked for quite a while about different types of scooters, licensing requirements and so on. They even googled the scooter that I was headed to go pick up. After we chatted a bit Randall took me back to the show room and gave me the tour, described what was what and let me be. He didn't push me for a sale or ignore me or any of my questions. I thought they were really nice, knowledgeable guys. I ended up not making the drive out to New Lenox. I plan on saving a couple more bucks and heading back to Scooter Works to make my purchase. read more
