Tiny SALTY Chile Relleno... do not order
Valerie W.

Unfortunately for me, Senior Villa is less than mediocre. After spending $35 for a delivery meal, I knew I was in trouble when the more recent Yelp ratings were sub-par. Surprisingly, the ratings on the delivery app were high...don't trust it. Side chili relleno- for $5.50 it was like tiny street taco sized...but not taco flavorful. The only flavor it had was pure salt. It was inedible. Fajita chicken burrito also sub-par. Added grilled veggies and they were hardly cooked. Raw mushrooms and peppers were not enjoyable. Also lacked flavor. Their salsa was OK. I would not eat here again.

Queso tamale
Tammy E.

Yum. Yummy. Yummmmers!! A neighbor recommended this place so when I was in the neighborhood I put in an order! I'm so glad I did - this family owned restaurant makes some really delicious and authentic mexican food. I loved that the tamale I ordered came with toppings and I didn't have to deal with the corn husk. The camarones a la diabla were pretty spicy despite indicating I wanted the mild option - but it didn't detract from the overall flavor of the dish. The beans and rice were so savory I ate every bite (normally I don't care for these sides!) This is telling. If I had one complaint it is that I wish their entrance wasn't facing the busy street as it is a long walk from the parking lot to the front side of the business. I was impressed to see all three of their kids sitting at separate tables all tending to themselves and not racing around or causing any trouble. I will definitely order takeout from them again the next time I'm craving Mexican food!

canned chunk chicken???

Wow!! super sad that this little spot went down hill after the new owners?? I have the question marks due to the fact that I am not sure the date that this all changed. I believe that when they did some painting about a year ago and I noticed the name Rosie's over the door. That is when it changed- my friend and I would go really often and that evening was terrible but totally thought a fluke for sure. We loved this little charmer and now the food is awful. We had street tacos and a tamale...very disappointed. I'm loading up the pic's (I never take the time to do this but the tamale actually had canned chicken in it. When we got home, (this was take out) -it looked good when we opened it. Tamale did look really thick, but gurl, it was awful! After they took a bite; simultaneously- all said, it's terribly salty and there are cubes of stuff in it!! It's canned chicken! The street tacos were dry as the desert- but I will say the flavor was.....good-ish. Not the best, but good. Also the lime they gave us was actually rotten. not just one brown spot, but truly rotten, and no juice. So sad, will never go again- money doesn't grow on trees- You know the post, "if I could give it less than 1 star". I feel bad but the woman working was slamming things around. Maybe had a really bad day or wanted to get out of there for the fireworks. It's the 4th after all. yikes!! And I forgot to mention the piece of paper small in the photo. Looks like maybe, from a veggie tie- you know; wraps around cilantro, or veggies and has wire in it . They were good before , and maybe they can get it together and make it a better experience in the future.

Enchilada Verde with whole beans and rice!
Scott B.

I've eaten here several times, and every time the food is really fresh. I like the consistant quality, always know I'm going to enjoy the meal. Both soft and hard tacos are available. Nothing is overcooked! My Enchilada Verdes today (see pic) are perfect! And I especially like the whole beans with rice. The chips are crispy and the salsa is delicious. The restaurant is clean, and the decor is festive. It looks like a small place from the outside but there are 14 tables, plenty of room (and parking). ...and plenty of beer, wine and spirits! ... there is usually just one waitress "Diana", and she is very up-beat and professional... service is excellent.

Flan

One of our neighbors recommended this place for good mexican food, and we are so happy to have found it. Its a small unassuming place, but the food is all made from fresh from scratch. We started with Chicken Taquito. It was so good, fresh tortilla, the chicken filling tasty, and the guacamole fresh. I would highly recommend it. We the got Chicken Flautas, and Mojarra Frita. We loved both of our entrees. The Chicken Flautas were were so good, fresh tortilla's, delicious chicken, and fresh, guacamole again. The flautas are good, but very similar to chicken taquito we had. They are both good, but I would not recommend getting them both at the same meal. Mojarra frita is something I haven't seen at any of the other mexican restaurants. A whole fish deep fried and served with rice and beans. So good. We finished our meal with Flan. Again so delicious, such a great end to our meal.

We've driven by a hundred times, and today's the day we stopped in. It was right before 5:00 on a Tuesday and not another patron in sight. We were pressed for time, so didn't scour the menu too much and ordered one of our favorites - chorizo con huevos (chorizo with eggs). It was standard fare. Nothing snazzy but definitely met expectations. Another couple did come in as we were leaving and they ordered Grande margaritas. They were indeed HUGE!

Although it's naturally very fatty, the flavor and juiciness was retained after cooking - so they didn't screw it up. The salsa verde was a very nice accompaniment, as it tasted light, fresh, and a good complement to the fat of the meat. The mole enchiladas were less good. The mole sauce used leaned way too heavily on a sweet flavor - having little to no nuttiness whatsoever. It didn't taste anywhere close to some of the best moles I've had. The enchilada underneath was fine - nothing special. Both dishes came with beans and rice. Both were slightly above average, but nothing to write home about. I would say the portions were well sized in terms of overall amount, but the enchiladas were quite small compared to the beans and rice. With these two dishes we ended up around 28 per person. Overall, it's average Mexican food. 6.5/10

(those burritos are massive omg.) the mole enchiladas were SOOO good, as were the cashew poblano enchiladas. their sauces are so yummy and the presentation was on-point for both enchiladas. i also had a bite of my friend's carne en morita which is a slow cooked pork dish, and i was obsessed. the only thing i'd say to pass on would be the tacos. drinks were also great and had amazing presentation. i was very satisfied with my carajillo and my friend's passion fruit mojito was also very tasty (you could NOT taste the alc in it i swear) overall, koko's is a great spot if you're looking to dress up for a cute night out but also craving some tasty mexican food.

Every dish was full of flavor, and you can tell they take pride in both their food and their hospitality. We were visiting from out of town, and this was by far one of the highlights of our trip. The restaurant also has a parking lot for people to park at as well, so that is a plus! The drink menu is very limited, they don't have a full bar. I ordered the skinny margarita and it was good. The food is authentic and if you are looking for authentic Mexican food, D'La Santa is the spot. We ordered the queso and the rajitas. Both appetizers are really good, came out super hot. Highly recommend. I got the carne asada plate and added an extra mini quesadilla. The carne is very seasoned so you have to eat it with the tortilla to balance out the saltiness. The service was fast and our waiter was very attentive.

The bone marrow is an absolute must order every time. Rich, buttery, and packed with flavor, especially spread on the warm toast. I enjoyed the queso too, but if I had to choose one appetizer, the bone marrow wins every time. For dinner we shared the Zabuton and the Potato Josephine. We always order the steak rare because it finishes cooking on the hot stone, and by the time we're done slicing it, it's a perfect medium rare. The quality of the beef is outstanding, and the Potato Josephine was the perfect side to go with it. I also had the spicy Mezcalita, which paired perfectly with the meal. Smoky, spicy, refreshing, it was exactly what I wanted with a rich steak dinner. What keeps us coming back isn't just the food. The steaks are consistently top-notch, the service is always attentive without being overbearing, and the restaurant has a comfortable, upscale atmosphere that still feels welcoming. So many of our regular spots had lines out the door, which was no surprise, but we ended up getting a table here. Figured Mexican food is hard to mess up. Started with drinks- THE BEST MARGARITA I HAVE EVER HAD. It was perfectly balanced, fresh, just perfect to me. My fiance got a horchata and loved it too. They have an option where you can try ALL of their dips for $20, which I couldn't resist. It was so fun, they had like 9 different ones! I got the shrimp tacos and they were so flavorful that I almost gasped. The creamy sauce, crunchy veggie toppers, smooth avocado, and perfectly cooked shrimp...just wow. I will be dreaming about this dish for years to come. I am a pescatarian and gluten free and there were TONS of options for me. They mostly use corn for everything, not flour. The staff was gracious and kind. They seemed a little understaffed but truly made the most of it and made every table feel attended to and special, which was so lovely. Before it seemed like Maiz Molino was focusing on elevated, unique Mexican dishes (shown in the pics in my prior review such as short rib, and other sort of "fusion" dishes, and more seafood focused, etc.) Now, the menu seems way more generic and casual like enchiladas, tacos, quesadillas, tamales, etc. just offered w/ different proteins. They are still focusing on maiz but just a bit more generic in the preparation and offerings. Also, they had 2 separate menus which was a bit confusing. One is a generic all day menu and then another menu had brunch and dinner on it. It was around 5:30 p.m. but they were out of a particular steak dish that we were interested in. Service was friendly. We had enchiladas, a dip sampler (for appetizer) and Tlacoyos. Everything was fine but nothing really stood out, sadly. It wasn't very busy while we were there, so hoping that they are doing ok as a business. I would love to come back if they brought back the old menu w/ things that you cannot really find elsewhere, including the great cocktail menu and desserts that were offered previously.

Andrew (our server) introduced us to his sidekick, who was in training. Love that personal, hands on approach for a mew team member, and Sidekick did a great job in monitoring our table and replenishing water. Have to stop here and express my appreciation for Andrew and how he took the time to explain the philosophy and genuine team vibe of the restaurant. Oftentimes when a restaurant adds a flat 20% gratuity, you get the feeling this is not passed on to the servers. Not so here. He explained that it's shared among the servers, bar, and other staff, with only a bit retained by management, but even that finds its way into their wages. Terrific work environment and happy to see it. It definitely shows in the level of service. But we're here to eat. Didn't take a picture, but one of my dining companions ordered the burrito with red chili sauce and it was very good. Just the right amount of heat in the sauce. The Cantina celebrates Taco Tuesday, so I took advantage of this. You get the opportunity to try 5 different street tacos for the low price of $15. For another $4 you order it fully loaded which is a steal (guac, pickled onions, lettuce, giardano, crema, and another lovely sauce). Each of the tacos were really delicious and packed full of flavor. I especially enjoyed the cauliflower and the beef. Was surprised how much I liked the popcorn chicken - still juicy and not greasy in the least. Andrew treated us to a round of the hatch green chili. I was delighted because it was a dish I wanted to try. He described it perfectly: a little kick, but you can't stop eating it. He was right. A bowl of this in the winter with their cornbread (which I'm confident will be delicious) will preempt a winter cold. The sauces on the table are not to be ignored either. The green chili sauce was fruity with a little heat, the scorpion chili brings the heat, but their homemade chili oil is phenomenal. I could put this on everything. In short, the Cantina delivers. Excellent food, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and fun staff, and a cool vibe. I'll bet the cocktails will also be good. Definitely adding to the regular rotation!
