I'd been to this place often. The carnitas tacos were the best! Guacamole was good to excellent, depends on the avocados used. The last time I was here it tasted different, not good at all. The chips and salsas were not the same. When driving by recently I saw it said that they're under new management!! Okay, not a bad day or whatever else I was wondering why it was different. The menu seemed to be different last time too but what I usually ordered was still there. I prefer just ordering tacos without the beans and rice which can be hard to find. Well, the food didn't taste as good. Clearly it's the new management. I might try it one more time, but it was so bad last time, I'd be happier finding a better place for Mexican food. This restaurant must have just changed hands (confirmed after seeing name change on credit card statement). We used to come weekly for the best Mexican food we'd ever had. We noticed immediately the last time we came in, that even the salsa is different. None of the food is nearly as good anymore. We came here late on a weeknight and it hit the spot! We showed up about an hour before close and felt like jerks, but they were great about it and we ordered, got delicious food, ate, and paid before closing time. The bullet points: -Plenty of parking (careful you don't bottom out entering the parking lot) -Salsa and chips are delicious! -SUCH nice servers. I loved them. For me it was the perfect blend of making sure we were taken care of but not hovering. -Food was delicious. I once called Mr Villa "my one true love." Admittedly, I was really hungry at the time, but I stand by that. Nothing gets me through a long Friday at work better than the thought of dinner here on the way home. It's always busy, but somehow they'll find you a table without much of a wait. All the sauces, including the salsas, are excellent. The prices are fair and the portions are generous. Their taquitos are excellent, especially the crispy burned bits on the ends. Nom nom nom! Servers vary in terms of friendliness, but they are always efficient with the beer, and you get chips and two salsas almost immediately on being seated. I hat to give Mr. Villa three stars, I really do. Because the food was tasty. My wife and I actually enjoyed our meal, and said we'd be back. The problems happened later that night. I have a sensitivity to certain food additives, MSG among them, and that night I had a reaction identical to those times I've consumed MSG. I don't know if Mr. Villa uses flavor enhancers, or MSG in particular, and I would hate to accuse them of something that they don't do (please respond in the comments if I'm wrong!) This is the proverbial "I signed up for Yelp just to write this review" review. We lived in the city for 2 years, always searching for "THE mexican place", before finally discovering this gem. Everything seems well executed and we've found no apparent weaknesses in the menu after 4 trips there. There are fancier Mexican spots of course, and cheaper (but still excellent) taco trucks, etc. But for a great balance of authenticity, freshness (tortillas!), and a dash of American-style indulgence, my choice is Mr. Villa. read more

We went to Mr.Villas tonight for the first time and loved it!! We were welcomed warmly and showed to a table waiting for us (our Living Social voucher required reservations). The greeter (manager? owner?) knew it was our first time in (I bet you anything he remembers all regulars!) and made sure we were welcome, as well as going through the menu with us and making suggestions (which I appreciated). We had enchiladas mole (me) and verde (husband) and both said "WOW!" after our first bite. EVEN the rice and beans were exceptional - better than I've had in any other Mexican restaurant. We are NOT food snobs - we prefer good local restaurants vs fancy fine dining - but for what it's worth it's our new favorite Mexican restaurant and we WILL be back again!! read more

The food at Mr. Villas is insanely good. It's the type of restaurant you will travel across town for which is what we do because its worth it. We receive good service and food on each of our visits which keeps bringing us back. Great staff and great food. I would recommend this fine establishment to anyone. I adore this restaurant. Atmosphere is: time to relax. Food is: EXCELLENT. Totally recommend the guac and the chile rellenos, both of which are the best I know in Seattle. The refried beans are also my favorite in Seattle. The owner does all the cooking and you can tell he cares about what he makes. The prices are reasonable, and the quality for price can't be beat in Seattle. There is actual free parking right there, which adds to the relaxing atmosphere. My wife's sister recommended we try out Mr. Villa based on the tortillas and the salsa. Not a very good experience. The waitress was nice, the place seemed okay, but pretty messy, and the windows could use a clean. But, it's supposed to be pretty good. We ordered and the food came quickly. It was nothing special to look at and the food was pretty much middle of the road Mexican: lots of beans, lots of rice, lots of chips, big portions. But, not very good. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, and to be fair, it was a dead Tuesday night, but still, not going back. We live in the neighborhood and not going to be our "go-to" place for impulse dining. Plenty of other Mexican restaurants within 2-5 miles. read more

For customer service only since I wasn't even given a chance to order. I walked in to make a to go order and the hostess/waitress was very rude. First made me sit at a table even though I told her I wanted to order to go and didn't give me a menu. I had to find a menu and then after 10 min of sitting around and trying to get someone's attention she saw me and said it would be a while before she would take my order and walked away. Disappointed. I'm a neighbor and had always wanted to make a trip into Mr Villa. Tonight was that night. Long story short there was an actual rock in my food which I discovered as I bit into it. When the server came by to clear our plates and questioned how my dinner was, as my plate was still full of food, I showed her calmly and apologetically. She seemed irritated, said sorry and rushed away from the table with the plates. The bill arrived and the uneaten, rock entree remained. I would have to be drunk to return to this not-so-Mexican joint with bland food and robotic service. My enchilada tasted and looked like it was heated under a 25-watt light bulb and the rice/beans were absolutely flavorless. Then they had the nerve to charge for a basket of crunched-up chips they brought to our table per custom in Mexican restaurants, but these chippies cost $2.29. Wow! The favors of the food were surprisingly bold and delicious. I have had chicken carnitas a thousand times but nothing compared to Mr. Villa. I live down the street but never thought to try this little joint on Lake City. Glad I did :) The wait staff was super friendly and attentive. Mr. Villa has some of the best Mexican food in Seattle (which is kind of like being the tallest midget). The ingredients and preparation make you feel like you are in a Southern California dive (in a good way). If you have to get Mexican in Seattle, then this place should be high on your list. Awesomeness!!! Just had lunch here and absolutely loved it. I got the chicken mission burrito, husband got the carnesada burrito. We laughed when they arrived because they were GINORMOUS! One would feed three!! Sure they were a tad bit pricey but I'd rather pay a little higher for quality food then pay less for a substandard meal. The chips were equally just as good as our burritos. My favorite mexican restaurant. The fresh made pico de gallo is BOMB. This isn't your americanized mexican restaurant, its definitely more authentic and more delicious. First time at Mr. Villa last night, and I was not impressed. The staff was very nice / polite. We did takeout and our order was all wrong. They gave me ground beef instead of shredded that I ordered in my chimichanga (which was soggy by the way), and an enchilada instead of the burrito I ordered. My son's burrito which was supposed to have tomatoes had a total of about 4 pieces of tomato. Lastly, the food just didn't taste very good. Very mediocre, and I won't be going back. read more

There was nothing horrible about this place. The people are nice, the menu has a wide selection.. but I was just underwhelmed. We came here on a Sunday night and the place was pretty empty. The salsas served with the chips were awesome and I was very excited for dinner. I attempted to order the chile relleno but they didn't have any left (big bummer).. instead I ended up ordering a combo of one enchilada and one crunchy taco and my boyfriend ordered a steak burrito. My plate was huge, and the food was decent.. but it definitely needed a little extra flavor kick and I added a lot of hot sauce to each bite. The burrito was about 90% rice and beans with very little steak, kind of a let down. Overall I am glad I tried this place but I am not sure I will be returning anytime soon. read more

Based on the 4 star ranking on yelp we thought this would be a good dinner choice. We were wrong. After reading over the menu my husband asked the server what came in the burrito (a combination option). Her response was "a burrito with sauce & cheese". Not very helpful but he decided to try it anyways along with an enchilada with verde sauce. When we got our food (which was very quickly) the only way he could tell the difference between the burrito & the enchilada was the color of the sauces. The burrito was not a burrito in any use of the term. (The edges were open exactly the same as the enchilada.) I ordered a tostado. The shredded beef was good but the presentation was sloppy & incredibly hard to eat. The tostada shell was soggy because of the excessive amount of refried beans they put on it. The two servers were ok but not very helpful. They stood in the corner of the small dining room talking & eating the whole time. Just a lack in professionalism. They never offered us more chips or beverages. Overall, this place is overrated. Even the prices seemed slightly too high by about $2 a plate. I will look for somewhere else for Mexican. read more

Oh man...so full, so happy... The creamy chicken is just awesome. The portion was huge, and the creamy, cheesy sauce on the chicken had an amazing flavor that one just can't find anywhere else. The customary chips and salsa are spicy and fresh, the service is friendly, and the prices are very reasonable. I go here almost every other week, and have loved it every time. Oh! I was drawn into this restaurant because they advertise that they serve handmade tortillas and I was so dissapointed when I ordered a side of handmade tortillas to find out they were not being served that day. The main entree that I ordered was Chicken Mole Enchiladas which I thought were awful. The sauce was way too sweet and tasted as though they used sugar instead of chocolate and was also otherwise flavorless. The rice was okay but was not warm. I hadn't realized that they served whole pinto beans unless requested otherwise. I would have appreciated if the waited had asked me what kind of beans I 'd like. The ice tea tasted as though it was poured from a car tire. I could not drink it. The chips were the typical served at any restaurant and the two salsas served with the chips were flavorless as well. The owner was leaning against the table in front of me of talking with a family. He would not make eye contact with me. There were two other waiters working the floor. My husband and I discovered this place after moving up here from Southern California, yes So Cal, meaning we lived on Mexican food. Being Mexican ourselves, we are very picky when it comes to good Mexican food. In my opinion, this place is as authentic as it gets in Seattle! My husband and noticed this place a while back and thought it would be worth a try sometime. I then noticed a amazon local daily deal for it and figured why not. We live in West Seattle so this was definitely a trek for us but we are always up for trying something new. At first glance, as we drove up, I was excited. Homemade tortillas...how could one resist. The service started off great. Then the guacamole ($4.25) arrived, and it left much to be desired! Next we ordered the chicken fajitas, carnitas and a cheese enchilada for our daughter. The cheese on the enchilada wasn't completely melted and was cold to the touch. Now I appreciate when kids plates are served cooler but completely cold is ridiculous. I do have to say that the flavor of the chicken for my fajitas was good, there was barely enough chicken to fill two tortillas. My husbands carnitas plate was bland. When it came time to pay our bill I presented the waitress with our amazon local deal and I am pretty sure she rolled her eyes and became very short with us. She then sent another gentleman to assist with the clean-up, offering us boxes etc. When she returned with the adjusted bill she was less than cordial. Why would a business offer such a coupon if they were going to have an attitude when their customers come to use them. The food is very good, but the service is so bad I won't ever go back. Everyone working there (I've given them three tries now) seems totally put out that they have to serve you. After being irritated with you for placing an order, they seem to avoid walking by the tables, lest someone actually request something of them. They also have a flier for happy hour specials at another establishment. We ordered margaritas by pointing at the happy hour flier. They made a requested menu substitution with a tasty result. Their red salsa is tasty. They are nice and they tried, but a group of 6 is apparently a bigger challenge than they are prepared for. They take Visa. Parking is easy. If I were alone, with my stomach growling, and close by in the neighborhood, I might go in for a bite of lunch, but I would not go out of my way and certainly not in company. They could not supply enough menus all at once for our party of 6 and did not tell us that, so we sat waiting about 30 minutes for the rest of the menus to arrive. The first person we asked for more spoke too softly to be heard. He pointed to the service corner of the room, but none of us understood or heard him enough to know why. Eventually, a waitress came and asked if we were ready to order. When we asked her for them, she explained that they did not have enough. We shared so we could order. Then, much later, more menus were brought. We are a group of 6-8 individuals who eat together in a restaurant once a week. We always request separate checks. This stressed the wait staff's abilities beyond capacity. I have never been told before to figure my own check so the waitress could take my credit card, but this was how our request was handled. The "waiter" whose name our bill bore, left the service work to a waitress. Tipping would have been more gratifying if we thought she would be the recipient. read more
