This joint gets two stars from the friendliness of the hosts, but nothing else. I have never been in such intestinal distress as I was early this morning after eating here. I ordered the 6 piece fried shrimp & oysters. The oyster were ok, I've had better. Now on to the strange. I have never had fried shrimp jerky. No, it was not supposed to be jerky, but the texture was that of beef jerky. I ate one and thought it was a fluke...it was my fluke for believing the other fried shrimp jerky was going to be better. This platter woke me up in the dead of night seeking assistance from the porcelain god to help me release those rubbery fried shrimp jerky. After a strenious battle with the fried shrimp jerky I was able to find solace after having them all expelled from my lower bowel. I will not return! read more

Well, We went from Texas BBQ in Celina to Very fresh & enjoyable seafood here in Dallas. The 1/2 Crab & 1/2 Shrimp were fresh, crunchy & delicious. Be sure to try the nachos because they were absolutely out of this world. Also the hush puppies & okra were incredible & the potatoes that came with the shrimp & crab were well flavoured & enjoyable!!. The original Seafood Shack is off Webb Chapel and is definitely a dive. My Overall Rating - 4 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - When you walk in you'll be greeted to a large, well-spaced out bar. There are high ceilings so you don't feel like you're cramped. Most of the staff & patrons are Hispanic, but don't worry - everyone speaks the language of good food. Expect to roll up your sleeves & use your hands. As a bonus, the bathroom contains a stainless steel industrial strength sink to clean your mittens after digging into a plate of crab, shrimp, or crawfish. 1 Star. Service - Unlike the Big\Aw-shucks restaurants, there is actually wait service. Seafood Shack's concept is very similar to the aforementioned places, but you will get someone to help. But while that can be convenient, orders still can get mixed up. Staff is bilingual in case that is of value to you. On our visit, it was good, not great. A bit slow and our order wasn't 100% right, but again it was serviceable. 1/2 Star. Food - Comparisons to Aw\Big Shuck restaurants will be obvious. You can get a shrimp cocktail, summer platter with crab legs, crawfish, etc. But Seafood Shack also has a number of quality fish dishes as well. It's served in a big glass goblet so you can see the colors throughout. Also, the hush puppies are quite good. Will I Return? - Yes. I prefer this location over the original off Webb Chapel. It's newer, bigger, and cleaner, has more parking, and will satisfy your seafood tastes buds. Yelpers got together for a Michelada UYE. I didnt have any michelada because I couldnt get use to the taste. But I did have a strawberry margarita. It was refreshing for the summer heat. to grub I had the two tostados de ceviche $8. I thought it was a little bland. There was no taste to the ceviche. It was very minced and I had to throw on some hot sauce on it. It was better with hotsauce. I got a taste of the shrimp cocktail from my neighbor and I didnt think it was good. Seafood Shack makes what could be a gazpacho soup, filled with a handful of plump shrimp, chunks of avocado floating in a broth that tastes like a pico de gallo soup. Amazing! That was my appetizer. For a main, I had the Shrimp Enchaladas, with a side of Guacamole (because I always enjoy a good handmade Guac). The enchiladas were filled with shrimp, covered in a very light sauce and accompanied by a bowl of rice. I've been here several times, and have never been dissapointed. The food is always prepared fresh, and is full of flavor. My favorite is the "Shack Pot" which includes shrimp, crab, potatoes, and corn, and extra sauce. I pass by/see this place pretty much every day since it's opened and I finally got a chance to stop by and see what this location has to offer. This is one of those no-frills, get in/get out or sit and have a beer and watch soccer places (I've only been once and ALL of the TV's were tuned in to soccer--I don't know if they change the channel to something else, but, eh). I had been craving catfish so I whipped in here to grab a to-go plate and first thing that caught my eye were the daily specials that they offer: Senior Special - $1 off any meal, Rita Monday - $2 margaritas all day (say whaaat) & $1.50 fried fish fillet Taco Tuesday - $2 fish tacos all day Tequila Wednesday - $3 silver tequila shots, 50% off any appetizer (except shrimp & crab jalapenos) Can we say YES please!?!? LOL! Anyways, so today's visit didn't go as well I wanted. The fried catfish wasn't bad but it wasn't what I wanted it to be. The coating was hard and really lacked flavor...and the French fries were over seasoned. If they had taken half the seasoning off of the fries and put it on the fish, I'd be alright! Their "special sauce" or whatever sauce that came with the plate other than tartar sauce was increeeeeeedible. Like, scrape the fish on the side of the container to get all the sauce out GOOD. The hush puppies were nasty and greasy...like they had been sitting in oil and then put on my plate. *sad face* I really like hush puppies. This place has potential and the few wrong things with my order will not deter me from coming back and trying it out again. This has been an incredible experience! This is not a formal venue -- it is calm, relaxed, and casual. That said, the food is definitely a class act. The service is incredible, and that pertains not only to our waitress, but to all of the staff. Even while I was in line for the restroom, a staff member offered a blessing when I sneezed. Despite the calm and seemingly colloquial name, this restaurant has many offerings of food and drink that are far from American, and explanations are readily offered when they are needed and requested. Dinner with instructions; yes, please! We started off with oysters on the half shell, and they are extremely clean and have a very natural yet neutral flavor. Our main drink of the night was something Paloma, and it was very good -- though I couldn't do it the entire night as it seemed anticipatory rather than something meant to be a primary flavor. The bacon-wrapped shrimp-stuffed jalapeños were really good and not spicy at all. The crab-[and-shrimp]-stuffed jalapeños were amazing and really spicy. The Shrimp Cocktail is definitely a Mexican thing and I guarantee you it is unlike anything you've had before. HAVE IT EXPLAINED before ordering. Also, get a small. I liked it overall, but it had too much raw onion for me to drink the broth, and I didn't like the oysters in it. The oysters on the half-shell were very clean and not slimy at all, but the oysters in the shrimp cocktail felt extremely slimy. La Sirena was my favorite cocktail there. Stop asking questions and just order it. There is some kind of flight shot (on a shot paddle) with tequila, lime, red juice thing, and shrimp-and-cucumber. Get that, too. The cocktail Coco Mama was tasty, but was so sweet that it sat very heavy in the stomach and filled me up tremendously (for a short while). We had a layered tequila-cream-and-coffee shot that was probably the single tastiest part of the night! This must be your dessert! We could not escape without experiencing the delicacies, so we ordered some Premium Ceviche and Octopus Ceviche. I fid not care for the Premium Ceviche -- I have had ceviche many times over the years and have never really cared for it, but I will say that this was definitely the most harmonious ceviche that I have ever had. The Octopus Ceviche was really good and not even remotely fishy, oniony, or limey. We had another dish that came out with the ceviche, and it was called agua-something. Aguachiles, I think. It was incredible!!!! Like a shrimp ceviche in creamy lime sauce, but seemingly fully [normally]-cooked. I loved it!! We also had flan in there at some point, and it was line with what you can expect from good flan. Get it if you just want it for flavor cz it didn't taste like it had any alcohol in it. My food comes out and the fish was fresh out the grease. It looked a lil funny so I asked her again if it was catfish she said yes. I tasted it and it was horrible. You can tell it was some cheap frozen fish. I'm an oyster lover and when I ordered a dozen oysters, it's basically a mix of good and bad. Had like 1 good one. Half are messed up. And some are messed up to the point where there's only a small amount t left of the oyster. I had lunch at Seafood Shack for the first time today. My spouse and I both got the Tacos Cancun and we both found them to be very good. Our five year old who can be a picky eater is now into tacos because of them. Having been there just once it's hard for me to know how many stars to give so for now I am going with three.
