I really enjoy eating here. The food is always good and plenty. Today I took my granddaughter and surprised at how large the kids plate was! I thought it would only be the PBJ with a little fruit but it had the dipping sauce, pickles and the strawberry muffin. My plate (Garden sampler) was so filling I couldn't finish it all. The cream of broccoli soup was delicious! I didn't really care for the muffin but maybe my expectations were too high since, after all, it's a pink muffin! I have always loved eating in/at tearooms so I was tickled when my college aged girls came into town and decided they wanted a to spend the day at Montgomery Street antique mall. I knew Montgomery Street had a tea room and after trying to convince my husband and our daughters that the food was probably going to be really good, they finally conceded. My husband and I had the sandwich plates, he had chicken salad. I had tuna salad. I went with the cream of broccoli soup, he went with the vegetable beef soup and was raving about how hearty and flavorful the soup was. One of our daughters had the castle salad trio and loved everything and our other daughter had the Saint Matthews lasagna and was extremely pleased with it. We were so impressed with our orders, that we ended up trying each other's food and agreed that everything we ordered was fantastic. Everything was fresh, tasty, the right temperature, appealing to the eyes, etc. So glad we had lunch here. It made for a memorable day with our daughters. read more

We come here every time we visit DFW the bread pudding is to die for. This time we tried the high tea which was only $13 pp. The scones were so good - had a crisp crust but fluffy on this inside. Went there recently with my wife on the weekend an hour before they closed. After getting seated, we were ignored by all the wait staff for over 15 minutes. The entire time, they waited in other (more recent) patrons or sat in the back room telling jokes and hanging out (we could hear them). After finally getting the attention of the hostess, she claimed the oversight was her mistake. However, we were too frustrated at that point and could tell rest of the experience was going to be bad as well. We wound up leaving before anyone waited on us. read more

Tucked away inside the Montgomery Antique mall is this cute and surprisingly delicious restaurant. We came here with the intention of having High Tea, but they were completely booked for the weekend, so we just had Brunch. For starters we ordered their famous Apricot Mango Iced Tea and a pot of Lady Hamilton's tea. The Apricot Mango Iced tea was very refreshing and the Lady Hamilton Tea was very calming and tasted like peaches. I had the Secret Sampler which had Quiche, Queen Mum's Chicken Waldorf Salad, Fruit Salad, and a cup of Southwest Chicken soup. My expectations for some reason were low for the food, but this placed surpassed my expectations. Everything on my plate was so delicious, flavorful and tasted fresh. After we were done eating, we just browsed the antique mall. I will for sure be back for the High Tea. I 100% recommend this place! you will not be disappointed. I recently gave my 7 year old granddaughter an antique tea set. Something I 'd spent years searching for! To present the gift I took the ladies in our family to Secret Garden for a tea party: my 3 daughters, sister and granddaughter. I called to get the particulars about their tea parties, so I knew what to expect. We were there on time. (Tea parties are served after the lunch crowd.) We dressed up, wore hats, and tried to make it special and a grown up event as opposed to a children's tea party. Sadly, I do not remember our waitresses name. They were ready for us and, once clear on the nature of the event, cooperated beautifully! Between us all I think we had some of everything. It was all good! The towers were a big hit, and while everyone may not have liked everything there were enough choices to satisfy everyone. We were able to try several teas in either hot or cold. The scones were delicious! They are a great dessert for those who prefer something NOT gooey/overly sweet. We were not hurried. We were invited to try a variety of items. The portions were plentiful. Our waitress was attentive and patient, even with a little girl who didn't always know what she wanted. The event was a success with both young and old. I did my research, got the facts, and did everything I could to make it a success. In turn Secret Garden did there part by providing good food, a generous variety, and excellent service. read more

My husband and I each had a quiche, and some amazing tea, and the food was so incredible that it was the topic of our conversation for the entire time we were eating! The soup I got was asparagus soup (delicious!), and my husband got the tortilla soup (hearty and wonderful!) - and now we're planning our road trip around possibly getting to come back. Tearooms, not so much my thing. Too much gold-tipped porcelain and floral patterns for this beer-and-burger guy. But, I hafta admit the Secret Garden won me over. You don't really have to be down for the Antique shopping vibe to enjoy this place, cuz the selection here is tasty, home cooked comfort food with a sort of throwback nod to "things we thought were healthy in the 80s" like sandwiches, sweet tea, and salads slathered with ranch. Part of my Texas education as a transplant from the northeast was the "antique mall and tearoom" experience. I think Montgomery Street does it the best of any I've been to. I don't know that I'd come here specifically to eat. But, I was glad we did once I tasted the food. The Secret Garden is eponymously tucked away (secretly) in the mall in a section that is not apparent from the main room. We have eaten here twice during lunchtime on a weekend and never waited long. The servers are personable, like your aunt or cousin is waiting on you, which fits the home-cooked taste of the food. We ordered quiche, a roast beef sandwich, and grilled cheese, which came with soup and a delicious muffin. The meal reminded me of my years touring with a band and staying in people's homes in West Texas. I recommend the Secret Garden even if you're not planning to shop at the mall. I wish I could say that we had a nice time. truth be told, we have been coming here for years and have had no issues. Today, however, the issue was about as big as it could be, and we will not be returning. After ordering lunch, we followed it with our favorite menu item, the scone, and clotted cream. It came to my attention, after a bite or two, that it had pecans/walnuts, this time around. It is worth noting that the menu has nothing about any nuts in the scones, and we have enjoyed nut-free scones at this tea room for years. Now, I hate pecans and walnuts, but the real issue is that if someone is allergic to these ingredients (tree nut allergies are quite common), it could be very serious if not potentially fatal. When I brought this to our server's attention, and that the menu should reflect the possibility of such ingredients. Firstly, our server, Jude, had the perfect response of "what do you need me to do?" (thinking that I might be one of the allergic). Well done, Jude. Mike, however, and I assume he has a managerial function, chose to blame the customer (me and anyone else who might order a scone), saying that, "lots of scones have nuts" (no, 'lots' do not), and, "it's up to the customer to ask if something has nuts". This attitude is inexcusable. Mike, continued with, "I don't make the menu...", in a passive-aggressive attempt to shift responsibility even further from himself. On a dreary rainy day I finally fulfilled my promise to my spouse to take them for lunch at The Secret Garden. The restaurant is inside the Montgomery Street Antique Mall, which just happens to be my favorite one in Fort Worth. The menu is small which is a plus as I'm always weary when you go to a place that has a menu that needs a table of contents to peruse. My spouse got the tuna salad sandwich, I tasted it and it was a-ok. I almost got it but I feared it would be drenched in mayo which pleasantly was not the case. I opted for the Sir Christopher Quiche Florentine with a side of fruit and a cup of cream of asparagus soup. The soup was on the bland side but with some salt and pepper it was pleasant. The fruit was firm, fresh, and sweet. The quiche was a show stopper. It was a generous sized slice that had additional cheese melted on top baked to a nice crisp. The inside was moist and delicious. Quiche is easy to ruin and hard to make right so I would definitely recommend trying it here. I would have split a scone with cream and jam with my spouse after but it also came with a strawberry muffin and some berry jam. The muffin was moist and fluffy and tasted delicious with and without the jam. The service was fine. The place wasn't very busy like we usually see it on the weekend but the weather probably factored into that. We plan on making reservations in a few weeks for the high tea as it's reservations only for that. I've come here several times over the last few years and every time it was great. Except for the last time i was here. I stopped by to do some shopping and got hungry. The service was pretty sorry. I stood there for about 10 min waiting for someone to notice me and get me a table. In that time, an older gentleman jumped in front of me and got seated first. I'm not one to push down an old man, so i just let it slide. But I was a bit annoyed that he was noticed before me. lol Even though there were alot of ppl there, it didn't seem chaotic. So i didn't understand why service was so slow. I got my usual Salad sampler plate with the soup. Ooh no. the Soup tasted like canned Campbell's Soup. Big ew. The decor is tired and looks unclean. The food was ok but I wouldn't make the effort to visit again. Scones were good but the jam was a "to go" smuckers packet and the sugar bowl was an old plastic container. The salt and pepper shakers were in a plastic holder that honestly had never been washed. We went for high tea at 2 pm on a Wednesday. We received atrocious service, subpar food. In my opinion if you have to have a reservation and it's your specialty at least your food should be good. We had 3 different sandwiches all same bread. Old chicken in the chicken salad sandwich, pretty tasteless strawberry and cucumber sandwiches. We will never come to high tea here again. When we arrived our server was shopping the surrounding booths. She (Amanda) continued to shop through out our visit. She did not bringing request cream and honey for our hot tea after 15 minutes we asked another server for assistance. She was basically absent during your visit. She brought the check with added gratuity there were two of us. She disappeared again came back and said she forgot we were still here and hadn't paid yet. I'm so sorry to leave an unpleasant review, but the food was awful. I ordered the Secret Sampler, and I could not with good conscience keep it a secret. The quiche had large bits of squash in it like it had been dumped from a frozen bag. The cheese topping was hard crusted as if baked way too long. The potato soup tasted like nothing but a cup of white glob. The strawberry muffin taste as if from a cheap cake mix and the dressing for the fruit looked funky and tasted as such. A Tea Room is supposed to have fresh, favorably delicacies like scrumptious quiche, pumpkin bread sandwiches, fresh fruit and dressing. And by no means a big lumpy strawberry cupcake staring you in the face. I took a few bites to taste everything and was done. I really tried to give my meal a chance, but next time, I'll just look at the antiques. read more

The ambiance is really enjoyable, the little girl in me was happy to have an English tea type lunch. I came here with my husband. It didn't have many options for his appetite. He got the Saint Matthew's lasagna with a salad, it was tasty, it had cheddar, which is unusual but it tasted great. I got the palace penne with pesto and veggies, it didn't have the oomph I expect from pesto, but it was good. I also had their apricot mango ice tea, that was very nice. I ordered the salad sampler and a scone with clotted cream and jam. It was so good and definitely more food than I expected. The chicken salad was wonderful. The quiche was also pretty good. I also really enjoyed the fruit salad. The sauce that was given was a bit odd.. honey, poppy seeds, strawberry, and I think butter. Tastes good, just odd. The scones are amazing! What a funny little hidden spot! This was like walking into my grandma's church on mother's day and being shown true hospitality. If you are lost in the labrinth that is the antique mall, find your way here- but hurry! they close early!- and at least order some of their mighty fine iced tea.
