High quality Thai food. The chef graduated from Le Condon Bleu in Thailand and there's a lot of thought and creativity that goes into the dishes. I'm vegetarian and there are plenty of veggie options. My go-to favorites: Chayote with garlic, Chinese Broccoli, Southern Green Curry. It's fun. Super friendly and attentive team. The menu is different. Never had a jackfruit salad...lots of people like...but I'm not lots of people. All the fried things were good Wings, crabs, etc. Papaya salad was what I would expect. And you don't have to tell them to make it "thai spicy" which is nice. 4 is plenty. If your seasoned or a masochist turn it up to 11 then, er I mean 5. No thai beef salad here and that's my mistake for not checking the menu first. I don't believe a restaurant should have to compromise its authenticity for the inauthentic flavor profiles of the inexperienced or the particular food missions of people. You do you Secret Savory. This place is soooo terrible. Do not waste your money eating here. When I picked it up, I knew, just based on how it smelled in the car, that it wasn't going to be good. I got the Pad See Ew, which is supposed to come with some veggies... zero. None. Zip. It was a block of nothing but brown noodles with this awful metal-like taste. There wasn't even any Thai basil in the dish.... as there always is with Pad See Ew All for $22 dollars after tax and tip. What a waste of money. The dish they served me probably cost $2 to make. Very solid Thai spot in Ballard with a lot of great vegetarian offerings. I've been a few times now and have always been satisfied with the service, food, and price. Their pad see ew is reliably good and they actually pack on the heat if you ask for it, but my favorite dish is their chili eggplant and tofu. Reminds me of a more Sichuanese eggplant preparation in a Thai context. Food has always tasted fresh and is ready ahead of schedule. The hubs and i only tried a couple of dishes, but the food was really good, the corn and avocado salad was perfect on a hot day, the duck with curry was super tasty and the wings were decent. If I were to come back I would not get the Pad Thai again... I ordered the pad Thai with tofu, no egg, mild, got a large portion but it was sadly pretty bland and boring. There was almost no flavor other than the lime I squeezed in. I was expecting some spice cause typically Thai places will make their food at least a little spicy even if you say mild, but this did not. It would also have been better if there were some vegetables to add some excitement to the boring noodles and tofu. However, my husband got the shrimp paste eggplant, I tried some of the eggplant and it was really good! It does come with pork though so the only way I would order that for myself would be if they can make it without pork. read more

Pandemic update: Excellent food as always, always really fast, takeout is packed with extra care. I kinda hate myself for ordering it cuz they offer different (for Ballard) dishes than you would normally find in an American Thai place...but their green curry dish is REALLY good! Ask for a side of the spicy chilies in fish sauce (prik nam pla?) with whatever you order. Their crispy tofu dish is good too but it will steam in the to-go box if it gets delivered so I recommend ordering it when you can visit in person. PLEASE support this restaurant and PLEASE visit savemarketstreet.org (basically tell SDOT: please postpone the freaking neverending construction so Ballard biz can recover in 2020). Update: The shrimp paste eggplant is a go-to every time. Sooo good. I got the squid dish tonight with salted egg and didn't like it very much, but that's on me since I just wanted to try something new. It just didn't have much flavor. I'm not sure what it is supposed to normally taste like so take it with a grain of salt Very cute+classy interior and really good service! It wasn't too busy when we went so they let us keep our stroller folded out. It's a split level restaurant (most of the tables are on a floor about two feet lower than the entrance) so if you are in a wheelchair you will want to make a reservation just in case, during peak hours, and let them know you need one of the 3 tables that are accessible. I will say the prices are a bit high but the presentation is way better than your average thai place, so you're paying a little for that. It's not as expensive as Pestle Rock for what we got. I'm not sure if lunch portions are smaller but those come w rice if you dine in so maybe try lunch specials first. We really enjoyed our dishes: Shrimp paste eggplant: eggplant was done sooo good. Hung lae curry: really tasty pork belly pieces! It's a bit similar to a mole sauce in color and consistency and has slices of ginger. Very cute plating. Would not recommend if you're looking for a curry with tons of stuff in it or you don't like ginger. My only suggestion to the restaurant is some of the non fatty pieces could have been more tender. A much bigger table sat near us and every dish that came out for their table looked super amazing. We'll have to come back and try other stuff that we normally can't get from generic American-Thai places. I could see if this place got really popular soon, the experience could suffer. (Also there was a minor error with the order...) Ordered: Thai sausage: it was flavorful and delicious as is, and was also great with the accompanied raw ginger pieces. YUM WOON SEN: I will come back just for this. Fresh shrimp and squid, and very well balanced flavor and ingredients. KANG PED BED YANG (red curry with duck etc): I asked for not spicy but it came spicy.. so I got to eat this by myself. Flavorful and the fruits added nice sweetness without overpowering the rest. PHAD SEE EW: my husband liked it a lot Royal Thai Dessert: never had this before- while on the sweet side, all of them were delicious. This place is so good that when I ordered it for the first time, I went back the next day and got it again. They are so nice there and one of the employees told me that if you order directly from their website the prices are lower than if you order off a food courier app. My fav is the Pad Thai. Used to be the best Pad Thai in town, but it hasn't been very good the last few times I've ordered it - clearly the recipe has changed. It's overly salty now, the sauce isn't as good, no carrot, and just not very enjoyable. If I order 2 servings of Pad Thai and request that one be made without something, they'll often apply the special instructions to both orders, which is frustrating. Wish they still used the old recipe. Not sure I'll be eating there much anymore if this basic dish can't be done right. read more

I came here with a group of friends, shortly after this place opened. It wasn't busy on a Saturday evening and we were seated right away. The food was sooo delicious!!! Everything we ordered exceeded my expectations. The crispy crab is sooo yummy! I am a huge kao soi fan and I really liked the royal kao-soi here- full of flavors. We ordered family style- multiple things to share but i think given the portion size next time I would probably get individual dish. The service is quicK, staff is really nice and attentive, the new decor (updated from the previous restaurant) is great too! I would definitely recommend this place for some amazing Thai food! I hope this place doesn't change, ever...how they do things. What they are doing now really works. The food is plated artfully and very tasty. You can tell they use good ingredients and know how to use their spices. As they do in Thailand. They do have a full bar but if there was one negative comment they don't know how to make mixed drink that well. For example they have a general idea of how to make a dry vodka little dirty martini but it is hit or miss each time. Sometimes it's pretty on point and sometimes it is way off. They can do the basics. And the wine, Sauvignon blanc, is not the best selection. I think if they hired a real bartender they would make a lot more money. We know the real money is at the bar. If you don't care too much about the drinks then it is a great place to go for a fantastic meal. The place is small so if you have a large group you should make a reservation as they can put tables together to accommodate that.
