Overview: See's Candies is a long standing So-Cal chain of candies (chocolate, coffee candy, toffees, etc) that is hard for me to review impartially because I have so many associated pleasant childhood memories of it from visits with my mom. The Establishment: This See's Candies is located on the eastern side of Long Beach maybe 2-3 miles from the shore. There's a good sized parking lot behind the shop that has plenty of parking and the shop itself is a part of a small outdoor strip mall. It's a small, but very clean and well laid out shop with everything out in the open. As soon as you walk in you'll be treated with a free sample and it's always something fun and adventurous. The shop has an incredible variety of sweets and you can buy things a-la-carte or a part of various gift-boxes. The Candies: Where can I start? The coffee candies are addicting, the chocolates are fun and assorted with so many different fillings ranging from fruity to creamy to sickening sweet, to odd and I love it all. The bad part is that now that I've tried "artisan" brands like Norman Love and Christopher Elbow, I want even more texture in my chocolates, and I want my candy to look like little works of abstract art! Yes, that is very bourgeois of me to expect it all from an affordable candy chain but a guy can always hope. The Service: Very kind and pleasant workers here. I guess if you're in a clean, delicious candy shop, there's not really a lot of stress to make you grumpy! Conclusions: See's Candies is a well run, and well priced chain of candy stores that sells well crafted and creative candies. This particular location has great parking, is in a safe but slightly boring area of Long Beach, and is kept very clean. I recommend it to almost everyone, but chocolate snobs may turn their noses up at the simple exterior designs of the treats. read more

I mean, if you want nice parking, no shopping carts dinging your car, no screaming children (even if they are yours,) and enough quiet to hear the sound of the little white paper wrappers being set into the pound box, this is the place to come. I mean, what is life without the sound of those paper wrappers being stacked in the "to-go" bag so that you don't get stuck eating a pound of chocolate? I've worked for See's candies before inside their factory warehouse during seasonal hours for the holiday. I was able to see how they pack everything and the different kind of chocolates and sweets they have . Ever since then I became so in love with their chocolate. They're soooo good ! There's all different kinds of chocolates from caramel to peanut butter, walnuts, toffee, etc. But yet, they're all delicious ! They even give you samples when you walk into their store. It's a California stand-by but I'm not sure how it's supposed to measure up to Lindt which I fell in love with in my early 20s or to more small chocolate houses. The chocolate tastes great, as a foodie am I supposed to say that? (Please advise me via comments/compliments) The staff at this store was super friends and entertained my odd request to assemble and advent calendar in their store by selecting 25 pieces from their candy menu. They even happily cut my chocolate into smaller pieces as I realized that my advent calendar cubby holes were a little bit smaller than the actual size of the See's candy. They were strict about the food safety which I appreciated. My daughter and I stopped by here on Sunday (11-27), just for a couple of pieces to wet our whistles. Had no idea it was going to turn into a Norman Rockwell picture. It was surprisingly crowded. We got in line with three teenage boys in front of us, being boys, a few women in front and a couple behind us. In any other store, it would just be about the waiting. But the two women behind the counter were super sweet, and an absolute scream, getting the teenage boys to try chocolate they didn't think they would like. We all got in on the fun. It put all of us in great spirits, I could have spent another 20 minutes there, just listening to the fun these two were having. Both extremely friendly and courteous as well, and I'm from the south, so I know friendly. I wish I knew the women's names. All I can say is they were too women of color, with the best dispositions. I've been coming here for years and have always been able to buy candy into the early evening. Service was always marginal, but I put up with it to get candy for the holidays. It's two days before Valentine's Day and they're closed at 6:00. Huh? What? Isn't this the reason they exist? Me and three other guys are standing out front wondering why it's closed. Thank God for Candice. She is the best thing going for this place. After a very unprofessional overall experience trying to order in bulk. Never receiving confirmation, not being able to reach anyone by phone and no one returning my calls. Even being belittled and told by a grouchy miserable employee named Julie(i think see picture) that it was too bad nothing she could do Candice was there to save the day! thank you. Holidays are stressful. Spending money on expensive candy is stressful but her attitude and understanding more than made up for the other short comings. Candy! WooHoo! I love see's candy! It's the best, tasty chocolaty goodness. WAY better than rocky mountain chocolate factory for actual chocolate. The employees are friendly, offering free samples of stuff. Parking is decent, not great but decent. You can park in the lot behind the shopping center, like by the pizza place and shoe shine, but you have to walk to the Bellflower facing storefront. Not a big deal, but a consideration for some. There are one or two street spaces directly out front, but it's a roll of the dice on those being open. Everything here is $16.95 a pound, but you can get a pound gift certificate at costco for $13 if you're inclined. read more

I buy See's once a year during the holidays. Back in the day I used to go to the store in the Manhattan Village, but the parking is so atrocious there I've resorted to online shopping. I like buying online because you take all the time you need picking out all your favorites and changing the quantities over and over and over again... Anyway, I didn't buy any See's this year - I think we overdid it on chocolate during Halloween - but right before New Year's the family was bitching for some See's so I stopped by today for two boxes. This location is right by my work and exercise place. The parking was kind of difficult but I waited for a street spot. Luckily, the place wasn't very crowded although there was a steady flow of people. The two ladies working were nice offering samples right away. Not perky but friendly enough and efficient. They were patient with me choosing all my favorite candies, although I still prefer doing this online. But then again, you don't get the immediate gratification of eating candy!!!! nom nom nom. I also bought a ton of those delicious milk chocolate toffee bars. And I did all this after working out. Oh, and I also ate lunch next door at Hole Mole. We have shopped at this See's for decades. It is our go-to place and many presents are bought there. Mind you, our European relatives are 100% addicted to See's and we dare not land in London without several boxes. But lately we have had problems with our gifts: twice they have mixed up boxes we carefully selected for certain people so they never got what they wanted. And today went in to pick up a pound as a present and many of the candies I knew were desired were just out. So for the first time went to the See's in Los Altos Center. The customer service at this store is excellent. I called over a week in advance asking for them to order extra maple pecan bonbons because I needed 3 pounds for a Christmas present for my Dad. Candace said she would request them. Unfortunately their distribution center didn't deliver them when they were supposed to. Candace went above and beyond and called other stores and found one that had the amount I needed and convinced them to save them for me. Candace literally saved Christmas for my Dad. There's something about the homogeneity of See's shops that's comforting and reminds me of what my local store as a kid looked like...which means I suppose I'm playing right into their marketing scheme. That's ok, because along with the predictable appearance of the stores comes a happily consistent quality of chocolates, as well as a guaranteed free sample. I like the idea of getting to hand-pick what I want instead of getting a random box and hoping I don't bite into something I hate (I like that I'm talking like I do this all the time, when in actuality I just went once with a friend). Granted, pre-selected and nicely wrapped boxes are available, as well as the usual holiday-themed packages, but it's more fun to not buy chocolates as a gift and just go get some for yourself. This review is for the on line shipping to consumers. Twice this year I have had orders lost, ordering on line where the shipment originates from Long Beach, to be shipped to an Irvine residence. The first time it was eventually found -- in 100+ degree heat in August. The problem with See's is their online promotionals ... "Free expedited upgrade with regular shipping rates." So I was responsive to their promotion. First, the expedited timeframe never appeared on my order, so I had to call and go through a lengthy, tedious process to get the shipping timeframe moved up ... as promised. Me: "Please send me an email indicating new delivery date." See's Rep.: "Okay. I will." It arrives and only shows intended date it was to leave See's Long Beach. I call back. I am told I have to call back the next day for tracking information. The day it was to be delivered, it does not arrive, and I call and find out it is lost ... again. They can send it out the next week ... days after it would have arrived WITHOUT THEIR PROMOTION. Poor showing for such a huge company with a seemingly glowing reputation. Never again. I have spent many, many phone calls, up to hours with these people. Review updated o1/18/16: two days after the candy was delivered late, I got a call trying to give me a refund.. I said no thank you ... the candy eventually did arrive. She said: but it didn't arrive on time, did it? I said no.. If you want to refund my delivery charges, that's okay. She said no, I was entitled to a FULL refund now. This was very unexpected. That was a good-will gesture for sure. I will use them again. read more

This is my new favorite See's location. The ladies in this store are super friendly and love their jobs! There is so much positive energy. We asked to have EIGHT boxes custom packed for Valentine's Day, and our delightful See's lady didn't flinch! My dad is 96 years old, and I'm the one holding up the line making sure he gets three pieces of this and three pieces of that! (No, all eight boxes weren't for him--only three were). you just might drive by sees if you're cruising down bellflower. i typically park either on the street (right on bellflower, in front of the store), or i turn at the gas station on the corner, and park in the lot to the right, in the back of the store. this sees candy is just like any other one that you might have gone to-the people are nice, it smells like chocolate inside, and you get a free sample (which never ceases to excite me). sometimes i have to force myself to keep driving if i'm craving some chocolate, because their location is so central to other restaurants, stores, and shops...it's almost TOO convenient. read more

I came here today to get a half pound box of chocolates for my guy's birthday. I wish I noticed or asked the lady's name who helped me because she was super patient & helpful. When I walked in I wasn't sure what I wanted so I asked the employee what her suggestions were and she let me sample at least 5 different candies until I finally decided what I wanted to purchase.
