This place isn't bad. It is really small and was very packed, but my friends and I were able to get a table after a few minute wait! Not bad at all, considering it was lunch time and that this restaurant is located in a plaza surrounded by various companies. I ordered a 3-item bento box, I forgot the price but the prices are listed on their website. I got Chicken Teriyaki, California Roll and Sashimi. The chicken Teriyaki wasn't bad, and they give you a handful of it too! I had to take some home for leftovers. The California Roll was decent, and the sashimi sucked. It was Tuna Sashimi, but they were three tiny slivers :(, it's ok it wasn't TOO bad. The Cali rolls are actually big! When my friend ordered a California Roll to himself, it came out in 8-10 pieces!!! We were all expecting the common-6-piece roll. NICE! For the ignorant ones, the owner is part Japanese. This is one of only two Japanese places I'll go to. Management/ staff has changed and it seems nicer. Everything I have tried, a lot, has been fresh and savory. Sometimes, complimentary dishes of edamame or soup are provided. Service is nice and fast. Very accommodating! I usually come here for lunch if I don't feel like driving to lunch. It's 5 minutes walk from my office and if I come before noon, I can pretty much get a table. The staff is friendly because I am a regular, they usually give me free tea and miso which is nice. I am not a huge fan of their rolls only because there is way too much rice in it and it is huge so hard to eat. I normally order: -Spicy mussels for appertizer - I like the kick to it -Orgasm roll (yes the name is a turn off but it really is good ;) ) I don't normally order their bento but when I come with friends, they do and the servings are huge if you have a big appetite for lunch. The PROS: -Fast and friendly service -Rolls are very generous (lots of rice though) -Specialty rolls are pretty good, and lots of selection The CONS: -The sashimi is pretty average -The Uni nigiri I got was below average I think this place is good for the typical American-style Japanese (think Chicken Teriyaki), and specialty rolls. I don't normally write reviews, but Sendo Sushi deserves my 5 stars! The venue isn't the greatest, but the sushi, the other foods and the staff, brings me back weekly! I will not go anywhere else for sushi. I've been going to Sendo Sushii for at least 3 years now and each year it just gets better and better. Try the Korean chirashi or the yaki ika or any sashimi there! The fish is always fresh and the cuts we get are amazing! I would never go to Sendo during a weekday lunchtime because it is so busy all the time, but dinner time on a weekday is worth the wait if you have to wait. I went here twice. Both times they made me feel unwelcome. The sushi is below average. The first time they were just unwelcoming. The second time. I walk in, I stand there waiting to be acknowledged. The sushi chef ignores me. I contemplate leaving, as the place is empty. An older lady came out and asked if it was to go. I said "no, I'm eating here." She motions toward a table and I sit. It was 7:20 mind you. I get a phone call. The lady walks toward me, I ordered a pepper fin. Or some type of appetizer. I was on the phone for maybe 2 minutes. She then asks if I'm getting anything from the kitchen. I got off the phone. I told her it seems like you guys wanna go home. She said yeah. This place made me feel unwanted and unwelcome in their establishment. Why bother showing up if you don't want to work? Just awful. The sushi isn't worth it. No service. I'm not a huge fan of sushi so i wouldn't know much about all the raw fish stuff, but their rolls are excellent and the tariyaki chicken is delicious. get: crunchy rolls, miso soup, tariyaki chicken, tempura, saporo. don't get: tariyaki beef, pot stickers, not a fan of the katsu sauce either. they're not fancy, they're not perfect, but they're not ridiculously priced and the staff is super nice and love you for choosing to eat there. read more

I rarely give poor reviews, but this place is not good at all. I should've paid attention to the reviews. Some times I'll go ahead and go somewhere with not the most stellar reviews just to see for myself and this is one of those times I wish I didn't. One star given because the ladies inside were very sweet. Poki roll = gross. Too much rice overall on the outside. I'm a fan of Sendo, but it's not over the top fantastic that should get rave reviews! They have a HUGE menu of rolls to choose from and that doesn't even begin to cover the whole menu. My friends live in San Jose and took me for dinner when I came down to visit them. It's a hole in the wall sushi joint, like many others, but clean and well kept. It is surrounded by company buildings, so I assume that it is very busy during the work week. We went on a weekend and were the only patrons in the store. We were greeted, seated, and had our drink orders taken immediately. Normally I would chalk this up to the fact that we were the only ones in there, but upon looking at other yelper's reviews, this sounds like a norm (which I greatly appreciate!) Our waitress was very friendly and accommodating. I am a huge fan of salmon and lemon slices and immediately looked to see if they had any roll like that. They did not and my friend asked if she could add lemon slices to one of the salmon rolls we were going to get. The waitress said she would ask, but told us it shouldn't be a problem. We ordered seven other rolls, edamame, and I got some sake nigiri. We waited for about ten minutes and then the rolls came out one by one within a total of five minutes. It was nice to have all the different rolls to choose from, instead of having to finish one and then get the next one. I wasn't a fan of all of them, but overall the fish was smooth and delicious. One thing I'm not a fan of is rolls that have to be eaten in several bites. For me, sushi is eaten in one bite. There were a couple of rolls that were far to large for my mouth and I had to eat them in two bites. This ruins the experience for me as you usually end up just eating rice and seaweed for the second bite [this is just personal preference, not a deal breaker]. The nigiri was extremely delectable and perfect cut and the salmon was absolutely divine. At the end of the experience, all three of us were thoroughly stuffed and satisfied. The waitress was kind enough to bring us each a small cup of green tea ice cream (on the house). I don't think this is a normal custom, but the ice cream was light and creamy, and definitely was the perfect way to cleanse the palate and end the meal. Overall, I have no complaints, but I have no major standouts for this place. As recent transplants to the Bay area, we were on the prowl for the best local sushi that the area's famous for. We didn't want to go fancy; we wanted the warmth of people filling a need in the community with their love and talents, and Sendo was just what we were looking for! This has become our regular spot when we're craving sushi! The wait staff even recognizes us. The prices are reasonable, the service is friendly, and the food is delicious! I occasionally order something besides sushi, but more often than not, I come back for the sushi. Alaska rolls are my favorite, and Sendo blows it out of the park! Plus, with your check, instead of mints or fortune cookies, Sendo has the unique practice of giving sliced fruit (e.g., pineapple, watermelon, honeydew, cantaloupe, etc.) That finishing touch is surprisingly memorable, and we love it! There are two more specific things to consider if you've never dined here before. First, I personally prefer water with lemon, so the fact that Sendo serves water from a pitcher that has lemon slices in it does not bother me, but if that's something that would bother you, then order something besides water to drink, or ask your server if you could get water without lemon in it. Second, the other reviewers' comments on the coziness of the space are accurate, as well as the simplicity of the decor. So if you're seeking something fancy for your Japanese food dinner, then you risk feeling underwhelmed at Sendo. However, we have always been seated promptly, even when business has been bustling, and never made to feel cramped or unwelcome. They always recommend thingd to me and without asking provide me tea even though I dont ask. My first review for my frustration and practicing my English. Went for dinner. Regular edamame was not bad. And then I ordered Nigihama roll and Delux sushi. Rice wasn't cooked nicely. I disappointed with the quality of their sushi. I don't think their fish is fresh despite Sendo is meaning a freshness in Japanese word. It is not deluxe at all. I'd say those were overprice. Came here on a random Thursday night after work craving some sushi. I live down the block in an apartment complex near Sendo. I got a bento dinner and it was worth it. The service is very, very fast and polite. I would come here again. It's a small hole in the wall, but totally worth it in an area that mostly has Chipotle, Panda express, and Chik Fil-A. It's a nice break from the fast food. The only bad thing was the sashimi didn't seem as fresh which was a bummer. Everything else was good though- beef teriyaki, cali roll, and soup! read more

A friend and I wanted to have sushi for lunch, wanting something close to work I remember I saw this place in a little plaza about 5 min. away..so I told my friend to meet me there.. its a somewhat small little restaurant..I got the vibe that the lady that seated me was rude..only I guess because it was still lunch time..anyways i ordered a couple of rolls for my friend and ordered a bento for myself.. the rolls came first...so my friend and I chit chatted..and waited what seemed like forever.. I had to get back to work and the waitress finally asked if everything was ok.. I looked at her.. and then she realizes that they forgot to send in my food order.. I didnt have the time to eat it there so i told her to wrap it up.. shes all why? She had the nerve to ask why.. well why the eff did you forget my order?!!?! Moving forward she apologized after bringing my food out and said as an excuse that the other chick that took the order was "new"..and they gave me an extra miso soup to go.. the food was ok.. miso soup both there and to go where totally watered down.. but i guess an extra star for the miso soup they gave me to go.. never will i return. read more

Amazing little sushi place. Been there about 5 times already. During lunch peak time (noon-ish) you can expect a bit of a line but about an hour later you should be siited right away. I just had to make sure I write this review before I forget based on my experience today at Sendo Sushi. First off, when I entered I was greeted very politely and was seated without any delays. The waitress, Sunny, took my order. She even gave me suggestions when I asked for them and was willing to substitute shrimp tempura instead of salmon since I like that better. When I got my shrimp tempura roll, it was kind of oily but I did not want to say anything. Sunny came over to me and asked me how my roll was. And I told her it was pretty good. I think she noticed that I was a little hesitant so she asked me are you sure? I told her yes so she asked me is this what you expected? I smirked and told her it is kind of oily for my taste but I should've probably asked you if the entire roll was going to be fried completely... But it's still pretty good. She told me it normally does not get entirety fried but she thought that I probably would like it completely done so she fried it for me. She apologized and she suggested if she could get me another one to which I told her no that would absolutely not be needed this is still pretty good. Throughout this time she was being very humble, polite and was smiling the entire time making sure that I was completely satisfied. At that time I had already decided that I would give her an excellent review because she showed care. What surprised me even more was that when I was about to leave she actually did make me a roll that was not fried and she put it to go for me.
