    Frita Cubana
    Joey S.

After watching these amazing ladies take the title on the Amazing Food Truck Race I had to go check out their food and found them at Smorgasburgla. I ordered the Frita Cubana along with the Papa Rellena. I had to wait a little longer than usual due to a minor mix up which was understandable and they made it right. The Frita Cubana was really flavorful and literally melts in your month. The Papa Rellena was very crispy and the filling was very well seasoned. Definitely looking forward to trying other items on the menu on my next visit.

Watching these ladies on The Great Food Truck Race I couldn't wait to try their food. I wasn't disappointed. Everything was delicious. I want to eventually try everything on the menu. The ladies were really nice just like on the Race. I gave them some ideas for O.C. events. Hopefully they will come down. I'm sorta new to Vegan food, and this was my first time trying Cuban. My tummy was very happy

I was sooooo excited to finally experience this particular food truck! My husband told me a while back about this Latina-owned Cuban plant-based food truck that won The Great Good Truck Race, so imagine my surprise when i saw the truck at Smorgasburg LA! As someone of Cuban descent, this just made me proud! It's extremely rare to encounter a place that can take Cuban food which is so heavily based around meats and dairy ingredients and transform it into a plant-based option. That's no easy feat. So of course I was skeptical and had the hubs try it for me. We were greeted by a nice smiling face that explained the menu options. We decided on meat pies and croquetas. Delicious!!! They nailed the authentic flavors. Wow! Just...wow! I'm looking forward to tasting more and actually getting a photo of the food before the hubs demolishes it lol. I have to move quickly around him! This is certainly a winner!

The Frita Cubana here was delicious. It really is best described as a mash up of a smash burger and a sloppy joe. The fried potatoes add a nice crunch and the sauce provides the acidity to balance the richness of the sandwich. The impossible patty and cheese are so good you kinda forget that it's all vegan!

Cuban sampler of the taste of Cuban culture inspired vegan food. Picadillo ,arroz con pollo and frijole negro. All plant based !

I am Cuban American and raised on Cuban food .. my favorite pastime is to cook with my family with These home cooked recipes growing up. Senoreata does a great job of keeping the spices and textures the same as if you're eating your abuelas home cooked Cuban food. I'm excited to have this plant based option not giving up on flavors and feeling that childhood memory substitute with only plant based meat. It's my go to at the smorgasbord LA on sundays ! Get there early ! She sells out quick.. I'll be back to try Cuban sandwich next and some yuca fries ! New to Vegan lifestyle so I really appreciate this option! Watch out Senoreata I'm going to start cooking vegan Cuban too !

This was my first stop at Smorgasburg and it was so delish! We got the plantain nachos with cuban picadillo. The picadillo was warm and perfect on this gloomy fall day. It was flavorful and hearty. The plantain chips are the perfect texture to hold the generous portion of picadillo. The chunks of creamy avocado and drizzle of cream was the icing on the cake! Loved it! We will be back to try the jackfruit cubano sandwich.

I tried them out at Eat Drink Vegan for the first time, and I'm pretty darn impressed. I got: Meat Pie - 4/5 They're filled with a chili ground beef based mixture, with some onions and peppers, I believe. Well seasoned, but I wished these were more brown. They were served cold, which took away from the experience. Guava Cheese - 4.5/5 So long Portos, I'm breaking up with you. I'm a sucker for Guava Cheese Rolls, and I'll still have the vegetarian ones once or twice a year if it's at family pot lucks or events, even though I eat 99% vegan of the time. It's probably the last vegetarian item holding me back in terms of my willingly consumption of it. Well, while I must admit it does lack the fermented taste of the dessert cheese found in the former, Senoreata's version tastes good enough to compare to the standard guava, and surely curbs my craving when placed side by side with the nonvegan version as a choice. My bf had a bite and said he could tell it's vegan, but I think it's a completely acceptable veganized version, and that he's just too critical. It too, was a little white for my liking and I think it would have helped if they were warmed up (maybe bring a convection toaster oven next time). It is ideal for those who plan to travel with it, and eat it for a later time. (Meaning to just retoast it at home) Overall, I would definitely frequent their actual location if I'm in the mood for Cuban baked treats. The food is good, prices are fair, and service is friendly. Plus vegan Cuban places are rare to come by, so this place is definitely a keeper.

While I am not at all vegan, it can be a fantastic change of pace when trying a cuisine that is not at all my regular routine. Happily, Variable has tons of choices, and we loved what we got. I was drawn towards the 'N Seoul Bowl' (Korean spicy plant based pork, house marinated Kimchi, organic edamame, steamed organic spinach, carrot, steamed broccoli, onion , organic shiitake, topped with green onion and sesame seeds and side organic quinoa). So good, a bit spicy, and so many flavors on the plate it was impossible to not only love it, but I could not finish it, either. That goes from all their dishes. They are big, and in our experience, it came out piping hot soon after ordering it. My companion tried the 'Indian Tikka Masala' (homemade Indian curry, broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini, yellow squash, potatoes, cabbage, chickpea, micro green, Served with blend wild Jasmin rice and Indian Flat Bread). Tastes so fresh, hearty, with just enough of a kick to it. I look forward to trying some of their other dishes, too. The burger that the table near us ordered looked fantastic. I gotta think that everything here is pretty dang great.

I think I preferred the rigatoni over the lasagna but if you naturally gravitate toward lasagna (I don't) then you should disregard my opinion and try it. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't my favorite or the night. We also got the brownie sundae for dessert and it was VERY rich! Good but too much for just me in terms of richness. Definitely something worth sharing. Overall, 10/10 experience. Valet $15 and on the side of the buildings entrance. Highly recommend this option as parking was difficult for us otherwise.

He checked on us at just the right moments without ever feeling intrusive. The service was as impressive as the food. The restaurant has such a warm, relaxing atmosphere. I especially loved the beautiful ceramic water cups with bird designs--they were so unique and charming. Even the water tasted wonderful! They only have a hose A/C in the corner that didn't do much to cool the place down. The food though was amazing! As 2 vegetarians and 1 vegan, we had never seen such an extensive plant based option with not only vegan cheeses but meat substitutes with protein! No wonder they have been ranked #1 for multiple years. The starter bread came in a brown bag and was soft and delicious, especially with the house pesto. You could really taste the basil but it didnt feel too oily. We got the calamari because none of us have ever seen a vegan one on a menu! It was breaded and fried and had a squishy center made of pea protein that I guess simulates the real one? It came with a marinara dipping sauce. I could obly have a few because they were fried and I felt like they were a bit too salty Next the pastas came out - the Pistachio pesto and the fusili with sausage. Both were delicious. The pesto sauce was the same one we had with the bread but the pasta had Pistachio chunks in it as well and generous amounts of pesto. The sausage was chewy and the sauce must've had either the same seasoning or chunks of it blended in because you could taste the same flavor in that as well! We had hopes of trying dessert but these 3 dishes were a perfect size for our party and we had been starving ourselves for most of the day for this (probably due to all the protein included in a usually carb only meal). The ambiance is always a cool, calm, and chill vibe. I tend to come around the time they open on the weekends, and it's especially quiet, and I enjoy eating out in the outdoor area. Smoothies are delicious and they offer so many customizable options. On this visit, I had the savory version of "I Am Hospitable." This waffle is cooked to perfection and it has the perfect amount of crispiness and fluffiness. The oyster mushroom is exceptionally well-cooked with a great crunch without it being too oily. Everything here is always seasoned appropriately. Customer service here goes above and beyond, and I believe (Candace?) saw us on our last visit. She was so warm and engaging, plus she gave some really great suggestions. I wish other restaurants had people like this. On every visit, no matter who seats us, we receive the same warm welcome and friendly service that makes us feel great the rest of the day

The cafe itself is beautiful and cozy, and the whole team was incredibly kind. Our server honestly made the experience even better. He was so friendly and genuinely excited about the menu, took the time to explain everything, and gave us great recommendations based on what we were in the mood for. You could tell he really cared about making people have a good experience. The food and coffee were amazing, super flavorful and satisfying without feeling too heavy. It ended up being one of our favorite stops during our trip. Huge thank you to everyone there for making our day so special.

The cashier was super patient and helpful which I appreciate a ton! The location is on the corner of a lil strip of businesses so a few parking spots which makes a difference. Inside was a small setup but again super cute Here's what we got: 1. The Smokey (10/10) - it's banging! I really wanted to try it specifically because the onion-jalapeño jam got me stuck... and it did not disappoint! 2. The brisket breakfast burrito (9/10) - I asked them to cut both in half since I was gonna share with someone in the streets haha I love burritos, I love vegan breakfast burritos so nom nom nom! 3. Speculoos brownie (10/10) - it's super El Niño so the brownie was hot and ready by the time I landed so it was gooey and delish af I will definitely be back when I can push out to HP to grab refrigerated meets and cheezes! Best of the best…read more Maciel's is a Highland Park gem located on of course York Blvd - this Plant-Based Butcher Shop has been voted one of the best places to eat in Los Angeles and rightfully so. Whether you're vegan (like me), vegetarian or flex (like a lot of the world) this is a spot you should definitely try at least once or at least thrice. Impressive sides, soups, salads, sandwiches (both hot and cold), "meats" and "cheeses"... Not to mention desserts and breakfast items. Love the French Toast!! But that Reuben is a 10/10 and my guilty pleasure. And the meats are plant-based, loaded with flavor and true culinary flare. Maciel herself as well as this eatery combines passions for cuisine, health, nutrition and care all in one in this often thriving vegan-friendly area in Greater Los Angeles. Catch them also at big gathering such as the annual Vegan Street Fair in North Hollywood, Coachella Music and Arts Festival, and Open daily from 8:30 am to 8:30 pm, closed on Mondays. Some parking in their lot, but street recommend if the lot is full on the corner of Aldama St/York Blvd. Gender-neutral restrooms. And open to all.
