    Frita Cubana
    Joey S.

After watching these amazing ladies take the title on the Amazing Food Truck Race I had to go check out their food and found them at Smorgasburgla. I ordered the Frita Cubana along with the Papa Rellena. I had to wait a little longer than usual due to a minor mix up which was understandable and they made it right. The Frita Cubana was really flavorful and literally melts in your month. The Papa Rellena was very crispy and the filling was very well seasoned. Definitely looking forward to trying other items on the menu on my next visit.

I was sooooo excited to finally experience this particular food truck! My husband told me a while back about this Latina-owned Cuban plant-based food truck that won The Great Good Truck Race, so imagine my surprise when i saw the truck at Smorgasburg LA! As someone of Cuban descent, this just made me proud! It's extremely rare to encounter a place that can take Cuban food which is so heavily based around meats and dairy ingredients and transform it into a plant-based option. That's no easy feat. So of course I was skeptical and had the hubs try it for me. We were greeted by a nice smiling face that explained the menu options. We decided on meat pies and croquetas. Delicious!!! They nailed the authentic flavors. Wow! Just...wow! I'm looking forward to tasting more and actually getting a photo of the food before the hubs demolishes it lol. I have to move quickly around him! This is certainly a winner!

Watching these ladies on The Great Food Truck Race I couldn't wait to try their food. I wasn't disappointed. Everything was delicious. I want to eventually try everything on the menu. The ladies were really nice just like on the Race. I gave them some ideas for O.C. events. Hopefully they will come down. I'm sorta new to Vegan food, and this was my first time trying Cuban. My tummy was very happy

The Frita Cubana here was delicious. It really is best described as a mash up of a smash burger and a sloppy joe. The fried potatoes add a nice crunch and the sauce provides the acidity to balance the richness of the sandwich. The impossible patty and cheese are so good you kinda forget that it's all vegan!

I am Cuban American and raised on Cuban food .. my favorite pastime is to cook with my family with These home cooked recipes growing up. Senoreata does a great job of keeping the spices and textures the same as if you're eating your abuelas home cooked Cuban food. I'm excited to have this plant based option not giving up on flavors and feeling that childhood memory substitute with only plant based meat. It's my go to at the smorgasbord LA on sundays ! Get there early ! She sells out quick.. I'll be back to try Cuban sandwich next and some yuca fries ! New to Vegan lifestyle so I really appreciate this option! Watch out Senoreata I'm going to start cooking vegan Cuban too !

    Delish and hearty Cuban nachos!

This was my first stop at Smorgasburg and it was so delish! We got the plantain nachos with cuban picadillo. The picadillo was warm and perfect on this gloomy fall day. It was flavorful and hearty. The plantain chips are the perfect texture to hold the generous portion of picadillo. The chunks of creamy avocado and drizzle of cream was the icing on the cake! Loved it! We will be back to try the jackfruit cubano sandwich.

I tried them out at Eat Drink Vegan for the first time, and I'm pretty darn impressed. I got: Meat Pie - 4/5 They're filled with a chili ground beef based mixture, with some onions and peppers, I believe. Well seasoned, but I wished these were more brown. They were served cold, which took away from the experience. Guava Cheese - 4.5/5 So long Portos, I'm breaking up with you. I'm a sucker for Guava Cheese Rolls, and I'll still have the vegetarian ones once or twice a year if it's at family pot lucks or events, even though I eat 99% vegan of the time. It's probably the last vegetarian item holding me back in terms of my willingly consumption of it. Well, while I must admit it does lack the fermented taste of the dessert cheese found in the former, Senoreata's version tastes good enough to compare to the standard guava, and surely curbs my craving when placed side by side with the nonvegan version as a choice. My bf had a bite and said he could tell it's vegan, but I think it's a completely acceptable veganized version, and that he's just too critical. It too, was a little white for my liking and I think it would have helped if they were warmed up (maybe bring a convection toaster oven next time). It is ideal for those who plan to travel with it, and eat it for a later time. (Meaning to just retoast it at home) Overall, I would definitely frequent their actual location if I'm in the mood for Cuban baked treats. The food is good, prices are fair, and service is friendly. Plus vegan Cuban places are rare to come by, so this place is definitely a keeper.

I can't believe it's been 12 years--and I'm so happy to say it was every bit as incredible as I remembered. My friend and I came for lunch. I ordered the vegetable pho, and she had the curry rice. Both dishes were absolutely delicious--fresh, flavorful, comforting, and beautifully prepared. Honestly, I wish we had more time because we had another appointment downtown. I would have loved to try more dishes and definitely dessert! Our server was wonderful--friendly, attentive, and incredibly professional. He checked on us at just the right moments without ever feeling intrusive. The service was as impressive as the food. The restaurant has such a warm, relaxing atmosphere. I especially loved the beautiful ceramic water cups with bird designs--they were so unique and charming. Even the water tasted wonderful! I'm thrilled that Au Lac is still thriving after all these years. If anything, the food tasted even better than I remembered. I certainly won't wait another 12 years before coming back. In fact, I was so impressed that I convinced my husband to come with me next Saturday for dinner! I've tried many vegan restaurants over the years, and Au Lac remains my absolute favorite. My favorite on the Westside is Variable Café, but if you're willing to drive a little farther, Au Lac is on another level. I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough. She said the house salad was better the last time she came bc the lettuce was different. She recalled it was Romaine lettuce last time. This time it was a green salad. I had the lemongrass fish which was made of soybean. It was a little too dry and rubbery for me. I kept putting it in my soup with rice to make it taste better, but ran out of soup. I won't be ordering this dish again. I took half home, cut up the soybean fish and added it to a stew. I didn't mention to my server that it was my bday, but was disappointed that he didn't even offer like regular servers do, "Would you like to see the dessert menu?" I didn't tell him it was my bday nor did I ask for the dessert menu bc I wasn't the one paying the bill. Not that I needed dessert, but it would've been nice to have been asked. When I mentioned this to another server who came by to clear our table that our server didn't even ask if we wanted dessert and that the restaurant doesn't seem to want to push its desserts, he quickly brought us a dessert menu, but my friend was already paying our bill - too late! It would've been nice to be asked earlier. I even had candles in my bag just in case we got dessert. Anyway, this server said he'll tell our server about not offering dessert. The next day I came back with another friend after a Music Center event. My server from the day before recognized me. This time he asked us at the start before we ordered or after we had just ordered whether we'd like to see the dessert menu. Huh? Ask at the END not start of a meal! Instead of embarrassing him, I told him, "No, thanks. My bday was yesterday." On this second day, my friend and I shared a Chinoise salad (delicious and refreshing!) and paella (not like a paella, a little too wet and granular for our taste, but healthy - a living food dish). We had mint and lemon water for both meals. $12 parking in the adjacent structure. Free parking passes at the Music Center if you're a season ticket holder or good luck with finding street parking. I'd still continue to occasionally patronize this restaurant when I have Music Center events bc I want to support veganism, the restaurant; however, I was disappointed with some of the food and waitstaff this weekend. I'd suggest that the waitstaff go thru customer training on when/what/how to talk to customers. Incentive from the website: join the rewards plan - 300 points for 30% off the bill and 100 points for a free dessert! I'm aiming for the free dessert!!

He's vegan, and I'm currently following a plant based diet, so it seemed like a perfect fit. We actually found the restaurant after looking on the app InKind (highly recommend btw!), specifically for places with vegan food. They have a parking lot on the side of the building. Not many spaces but grateful for the option! They have seating outside and inside, and I guess inside is both "restaurant" or "dining room." Not sure the difference, but we sat at a table close to the window which was nice. The inside decor is really cute. Beautiful string lights, cookware on the walls, and there was even an old movie playing on a projector. It felt pretty authentic and adorable. Servers were very attentive. We had Adi and he was really sweet. We were brought water right away. And they serve fresh vegan focaccia bread with a DELICIOUS pesto sauce before your meal. Honestly, that pesto is something I want to take home and drink. So good. We decided to both order from the vegan menu. When else can you get fresh vegan Italian?! We got their version of vegan carpaccio as an appetizer. Which was oddly turkey based? (Vegan of course). But truly one of the most unexpectedly yummy things I've had in awhile. The mayo type sauce on it was delicious. The lettuce and capers were a great touch. And it had some sort of mustard stuffed olives that I could eat forever. My fiancé got the lasagna as a main. And I got the pesto spaghetti. Ironically I ended up liking the lasagna more and he liked the spaghetti so we swapped haha. Both were delicious. As someone who isn't vegan and loves meat and cheese, I can confidently say that lasagna was one of the best I've had in so long. At the end they treated him to a delicious small vegan ganache cake and a birthday candle. It was simple and appreciated. The only negatives I have is that the wine was pretty pricey for the bottles they had. And even though I requested a booth (they had several open), and mentioned the birthday in the reservation, I had to repeatedly mention the birthday, and we got seated at a table. You could tell he really cared about making people have a good experience. The food and coffee were amazing, super flavorful and satisfying without feeling too heavy. It ended up being one of our favorite stops during our trip. Huge thank you to everyone there for making our day so special.

Everything was spotless, calm, and full of genuinely lovely people. The service was so warm I briefly considered asking if I could move in. I ordered a latte, the Caesar tempeh wrap, and a bowl -- and somehow every single bite tasted like it had been blessed by woodland fairies with culinary degrees. Flavor? Absolutely out of this world. But the BEST part? The names of the dishes. "I Am Well," "I Am Grateful," "I Am Light"... and when your server brings your food they lovingly announce: "You are well." Honestly, being affirmed by a stranger while handed organic vegan food healed at least 37% of my problems. I came for lunch and accidentally left spiritually moisturized. If you want delicious fully vegan organic food, positive vibes, and the experience of being gently complimented by your salad, this place is IT.
