Shocked by the less than stellar reviews on here...Sergio's is amazing!! The perfect place to go when you're looking for a delicious "home-cooked" italian meal. The calamari is outstanding - perfectly crispy and full of flavor. On our last visit I had the penne vodka (one of my favorites) As usual, it didn't disappoint. The salad bar was great - everything was super fresh and it was clean (not like some sketchy salad bars at chain restaurants). The hubby ordered a pizza and loved it too. Everyone on staff is awesome too! They're always so happy to see you and make you feel like you're part of their family. Can't wait until our next visit :) read more

Came here for Hamden Restaurant week after hearing really good things about this place. I think we should have stuck with the pizza, because the pasta/chicken wasn't great. Also, service was extremely slow, and dinner took literally 2 hours for 2 people, even when it wasn't fully booked. However, the dessert was really tasty. And it might have just been disorganized because of restaurant week. So overall I will definitely go back and try it again and give it another chance. read more

It's a pizza joint in Mount Carmel, not Lawry's of Beverly Hills. Good Lord, what is WRONG with people? You feed me good food, I don't care if you kiss my Asparagus. The prices are affordable, the portions are big, the menu selections are diverse, the place is clean, what the heck more could you ask for? So you didn't get served fast enough. They bring you bread. It's always good. The apps are incredible, the soups are great....When your meal comes out, it's fresh and hot and it's obvious that somebody took great care to put it together. Sergio's is a great family restaurant. Spoke with the owner Sergio himself and he took the time out to meet with his customers! Which is very rare these days .. we ordered a medium meatball pizza and was very pleased with the taste and quality of the flavor of the dough and fresh sauce and just the right amount of good Grande Mozzarella to blanket everything together! We were in last Thursday 7/24 as a party of 8. A party of mostly older women and 2 (slightly)younger guys (us) and our server was Jayme. Unbeknownst to us, the women had decided that we would all do separate checks .. and announced it to Jayme as she first came up to our table. To be honest, I was HORRIFIED because I know just what a massive pain and inconvenience that is to a server. But in spite of that, Jayme was so nice and so accommodating to our party. She handled the whole situation with a great sense of humor, she was so friendly and worked hard to make everyone happy and feel special .. in spite of what a difficult situation our party made for her! And she had 2 other big parties at the same time! She still managed to keep it all straight somehow and maintained her smile the whole time! We had a wonderful evening, fantastic food (as always!) and to Jayme: I am STILL sorry for that !! I promise next time Ill try my best to talk these women into just one bill!! read more

Decided to try this place for the first time and the lady that answered the phone was not very friendly and didn't even say bye or thank you when she hung up. The pizza itself was mediocre. Toppings on pizza were tasteful but the crust was raw and undercooked. Will not return. read more

After a hard day of work I didn't feel like cooking and decided to order Sergio's through silver spoon delivery. If you're from Hamden check it out great delivery services, but that's a whole other review. I had high hopes after reading the reviews online, but sadly I was disappointed. I ordered baked manicotti which came with soup and garlic knots. The garlic knots were delicious, but the baked manicotti was not good at all. The manicotti was covered in deli sliced mozzerella and was definitely over cooked. The manicotti was rubbery and had very little taste. A little seasoning can go a long way..They were generous with portion size but they were underfilled and underwhelming. Maybe the pizza is better? I'll give them another shot but won't try the pasta dinners again anytime soon. read more

What a great family restaurant! It has a great selection of typical Italian food, pizza, sandwiches, but I love the calzone. I'm a fan of a carbs and cheese! It has great parking and a view of Sleeping Giant. The prices are good too. The only negative might be too many kids, but if they behave, who cares?! Sergios and Mikro are the two best restaurants on that stretch of Whitney. It is also a great place to stop if you are using the trail that runs behind the restaurant. read more

Pros: Salad bar. Big pizza. Cons: Not very tasty. Thick cheese, bland sauce, thicker than usual and crust was more on the thick than crunchy side. It has a nice ambiance inside, but the pizza was nothing special. There are better places in the area. I doubt there main source of revenue is their pizza. The pizza was pretty reasonable though, so I guess the quality was on par with the cost. I couldn't recommend it though. Calories are much better wasted elsewhere. read more

When you're looking for must eats in Connecticut you'd probably come across the famous Frank Pepe's, BUT Sergio's in the midst of Hamden & Cheshire had been around since 1986 and I found out why. The quality of their ingredients are superb making their pizza AMAZING! (Top 2 pizza we've had in CT) We got the Houseworks and Calamari & Shrimp salad. Both were absolutely fantastic and just what you're taste buds need. I'm back again to find out more about the other dishes they have to offer. I know I'll leave satisfied and highly recommending this place to anyone looking for great eats around midsouth of CT! read more

Pizza is great but every single time I go the wait time always seems ridiculous. Pizza and food is good which stinks that I find myself writing this review but I always think to myself that I don't want to go because Most times we are there for 90 min for pizza and salad. Horrible attitude by someone who claims they were the owner. They drive weed twice to my location. Called tonight to place an order and they stated that I was over the mileage. I stated that you delivered twice to my location and she said well now I guess I will have to because your mean, go ahead. I'll never order from there again. This resturant is one of my all time favorites! We've been going here for about 4 years now, it's our go to Italian resturant. They're portions are big, and all the food is always very fresh. I've lived around this area and also in the Hartford and UConn area. THIS is the best pizza place around. The family that runs it is very nice. They know most of their customers by name. I love their pizzas AND the dinners. We haven't tried anything we haven't liked. They have a great salad bar that you can pack salad to go, if you'd like. They also make delicious desserts. I take everyone here, so they can have truly great pizza. The only drawback is there is a wait on Weekends, and they are closed Mondays (boo!). read more

Love Sergio's. The food is delicious. When I get a hankering for fried calamari this is where I go. They do takeout which is great. Dining in is comfortable and the wait staff is pleasant. If you want a family owned relaxed atmosphere definitely a good choice. They also do larger trays of takeout for parties. We've ordered those a couple times and have been very pleased. read more

Sergio's used to be one of my family favorites. Tonight I wanted to order chicken parm with a side of veggies instead of pasta. The waitress said, "they are going to charge you for that." I didn't want the pasta and showed her how chicken Milanese had broccoli. She was a little rude. And I am sure people ask to substitute pasta now a days. Been going here for years and never had issues with the meals or staff. Unfortunately the past year the quality of the service and food has declined. The pizza is not as good as it used to be. I find that you a taking a gamble if you go during the middle of the week. Bottom line there is no consistency in quality of the food. Been burned on a few occasions. Especially on take out orders. I came here with a large-ish group. My tortellini with pesto and chicken was a tad overpriced, but pretty tasty and generously portioned. Service is important to me and I felt like the waitress was annoyed with us the entire time we were there. It made it a lot less enjoyable. I would give this place another shot with 2-4 people but I'm not DYING to go back. read more

My family, and myself are all huge fans of Sergio's Pizza. Far and away the best place to go, and sit down for authentic Italian food. My wife & kids die for their pizza, and I had a seafood risotto that was simply awesome. They also serve traditional, what my Nonni would call, "peasant dishes". Pasta Fagioli, with some fresh grated cheese....doesn't get any better than that. This is a very good family-style Italian place not too far from Quinnipiac. They have a decent menu selection of pizzas and subs along with full dinners. The quality of the food is really excellent but the atmosphere is bright and a bit loud, and the salad bar is a bit off-putting for a restaurant of this caliber. On balance, definitely worth a visit when we're in the area. read more

Terrific out of the way spot, a typical Italian family style restaurant with an un-exciting but delicious menu. The food is terrific, well prepared with large portions, and a nice salad bar. I would highly recommend the ny style calamari, crisp yet saucy with peppers and olives and capers gives this dish the perfect amount of zing in every bite without being mushy like so many others I have tried. 35 minute wait for food even though the place was not very busy. I seriously thought they forgot about me. Bread was cold, the butter was hard, and the baked lasagna was average. Ordered takeout while in the area for work. Careful how much you order, portions are great. Parking is tough. It is on a main roadway and has a narrow entry to get in and main parking is in the back. I ordered by phone for takeout and was advised of a 20 minute wait. I was there at exactly 20 min and order was ready to go. This is always a good start. I ordered Buffalo Stuffed Breadsticks thinking it was an appetizer for $10.95. Nope, meal for 3 or more! I will never consider this a downside. This is a thin large pizza crust folded around ample cheese and pleasantly coated chicken. The thin crust and ample cheese really held up to what I expect from stuffed breads: Lots "stuffing" and light breading to hold it all together. However, be warned as to its size. I ended up wasting over 1/2 of it. In addition, I also ordered a small pizza...which I would guess is a 12 or 14 inch pizza. I don't know where this is small, but I only ate one piece (ham, pineapple, & white sauce base). Both items were cooked in wood fired oven on good thin crust. Would order either again. I would highly recommend this place and will try the eat-in option next time around. read more
