I confirmed via phone they were still dining in or at least the patio open because of the nice weather temp due to earlier rain. We ordered the BBQ nachos, 1/2 lb pulled pork with bbq sauce on side and a side of pinto beans and potato salad. Everything was amazing with flavor. You could smell the goodness from outside. We did go for an early dinner so not crowded at all for a Monday. They have a small set up of mini golf and a walking pathway that parallels the animals river. But the food just isn't there. Brisket - Guy asked if I wanted it lean or moist - always a +1 in my book, asked for it moist. It was okay. Lots of dry brisket and a hint of smoke - good char but not flavorful. Ribs - The bark on these ribs is on point, but again, kinda dry, not enough seasoning, bland in flavor....little to no smoke flavor at all. Sausage - The sausage here is the winner. But I'm disappointed because I doubt the flavor of the sausage has anything to do with the restaurant...i think they bought it and smoked it for 30 seconds...the sausage is fine on it's own. Sides: Cheesy potatoes - so good. Well done. These are like crack in a cup. Cole Slaw - not sure. I ordered it, I paid for it...never showed up in the bag.... Sauce: I'm conflicted on the sauce and here's why: I thought I saw a bunch of sauces - so when the said there were 5 0r six in my bag - I thought that meant there were different kinds of sauces - which I love. But I got 5 things of hte same sauce -and it was actually pretty good....for a vinegar based sauce. While I like the sauce...you can't be doing vinegar sauce with TX bbq...c'mon. Good food, portions are deceptively larger than you think once you start eating. The turkey breast, pork sandwich and chicken sandwich were delicious. The nachos were messy but my husband enjoyed them. The Mac n cheese was creamy and cheesy, and the cheesy potatoes were excellent comfort food. The green side salad was surprising nice as well, with multiple toppings not just plain lettuce. The patio overlooks the river and has awning to stay shaded or dry in our case during an afternoon shower. This is my favorite location of Serious BBQ, primarily for the balconies which overlook the Animas River. There's not a better way to while away a Sunday afternoon than eating tasty barbecue on this balcony. I always get the pulled pork sandwich with the cherry chipotle sauce. Heaven. Savory and sweet and hella tasty. My son gets the taco with the cheesy potatoes and makes a mini-quesadilla out of everything. My husband gets the sausage and the banana pudding. Always the pudding. If we are feeling festive, he gets a beer and I get their $5 blue margaritas with the sugar rim. Perfect. Service is friendly and upbeat. They come in half or full racks; or you can buy per rib if you just want to sample one. The Beef Brisket sandwich is piled high with tender, tender meat, pickles and onions; a simple sandwich with lots for your stomach and taste buds to love. The Pulled Pork Sandwich is a large fistful of smoky goodness topped with cherry/chipotle salsa; several napkins are recommended. Maybe it's because our current city is pretty bad for BBQ--one great BBQ place, a couple of good ones, and whole mess of terrible ones--but we thought Serious Texas BBQ was rock solid. Did it have the best pulled pork and brisket in the world? Not by a long shot. And is the brisket "serious" Texas authentic"? Hell if I know. We lived in Houston for three months after getting chased out of New Orleans by Hurricane Katrina, but we were too busy scarfing down the excellent and endless Asian and Mexican food there to worry too much about Texas BBQ. (We did get to Goode Co. BBQ and a couple of others, and they were definitely better than this. And the brisket made by our buddy Larry here in Cinci is probably even better than those.) But Serious Texas's brisket, if a little on the dry side, was smoky and beefy and served in a very generous portion. Good job, for my money. Pulled pork scored probably a 6 or 7 on a 10 scale. It was smoky and tender, but lacked the bark-y texture and depth of flavor you'd like to see. The reason this rating gets to four stars is the presence of a five-star side. Demurely identified as "pinto beans" on the menu, they ought to have a more enticing name because they were one of the best sides I've had at a BBQ place: bold, thick, hearty, rich, and with a meaty broth, I could have made a meal out of a big bowl of these alone. Just fantastic. Also really nice is this location's setting. Despite being on the drab commercial drag south of Durango, the restaurant itself is perched just above the Animas River, among a stand of cottonwoods. The dining area itself is open, airy, and spartan, and it came pretty close to evoking the Texas vibe the owners are aiming for, at least more so than those BBQ places that look like barns. read more

You order it ahead and when you pick it up It comes fully cooked, wrapped up and was absolutely perfect! I fed my family of 6 and there was not a morsel left! I was with a party of 3 so we ordered sampler dish and a large coleslaw.. We were told their smoked turkey was good and it's LEGIT! We asked for "marbled" brisket which means fatty and it was AWESOME! The sausage link was on point and peppering which I enjoyed. Ribs were good, not fall of the bone style; these are true smoked and have a snap when biting into them which is what ribs should be. I enjoyed them others with me though they were ok.. Between the four of us we had... a Texas Taco, Elgin, TX Sausage sandwich, Pulled Pork sandwich, Brisket, and all types of sides (cheesy potatoes, pinto beans, potatoe salad). The only item that didn't draw 5 stars was the brisket (it was a bit dry). I had the Elgin, TX Sausage sandwich and though it was fine for me, some may find the sausage casing tough, which can make the sandwich a bit hard to eat. A definite plus about this location is the amazing patio! A great patio overlooking the river. I'd eat here just for the oatio, but the food is great too! Another local Durango favorite! This place has a bunch of BBQ items on the menu but I usually get the Texas Taco which is a tortilla filled with cheesy potatoes, meat, onions and jalapenos. You have to give the taco a healthy dousing of the Serious BBQ sauce that is on all the tables in old liquor bottles. It's SO GOOD! Potato salad is really good! Today I tried the pulled pork sandwich and it was pretty good. There was too much bread but the meat was good with the cherry chipotle. I thought it was kind of sweet though when I added the other BBQ sauce but when I added some of the spicy sauce they had up front it really helped!
