I used my maiden name as I didn't want to get into an email exchange with your staff. My reason for posting was to warn others about the difficulties I encountered with the leasing office. I hope that management can provide training to the staff on the importance of being polite to residents, both in person and via email. A little niceness goes a long way and there is one person in particular that needs to change her tone with residents/customers. Love living here. Location is great (you can walk to all the shops at the marketplace!) and it's right next to a trail so you can run and bike! The maintenance staff is great! Everytime you put a work order in they come in the next day and fix everything. PLUS they leave you candy afterwards! All the good candies too!!! This review is for Jana, who helped my bf and I when we were looking for apartments. Jana is great, she was professional and helpful. She showed us around the property and was detailed in explaining everything the community had to offer. We were very impressed, in fact we were so impressed that we actually placed a hold on one of the apartments. Jana walked us through the whole procedure and was patient the entire time. However, after a couple more apartments, the bf and I decided on a different apartment due to the size. The hold we placed was refundable within 72 hours, so my bf called the next day to let Jana know. Jana was very understanding and did not react negatively to our cancellation. We highly recommend her if you want to check out Serrano and as for Serrano, we think its a beautiful community with plenty to offer for its residents. read more

The maintenance team does a great job and most of the staff is somewhat helpful. But the reason for the one star is because of one of the staff members Melissa. She was very rude and condescending to my dad who has poor English. He went to pick up the new parking permit sticker because they were being replaced and we were asked to pick it up. But what seems to be a easy task took more than twenty minutes. My dad felt she was looking down on him because of his poor english. He felt discriminated and was very upset. Racism is just not something that should be tolerated. read more

So Serrano rocks... and so does yelp! they found my review and came today to replace our sensitive smoke alarm! now our new one won't pick up "steam and heat" when we're cooking. Serrano gets an A+ in customer service. Out of all the apartments I've ever lived, this is the best experience. And that's saying a lot considering my husband and I lived at the Village before Serrano! No other apartment community has given more of a sh*t than Serrano :) They seem to really care about keeping their residents happy and retaining them. I'm pretty confident that we will stay here when our lease is up and if we do move, it'll just be to a bigger unit in the property. Thumbs up from a happy resident! read more

I've been a resident at Serrano for the past 2 years and would renew in a heartbeat. I have nothing bad to say. Some of the cons of living at any apartment complex will include noise issues, lack of parking, and maintenance or repairs. I've never had any issues with noise, my guest have always found parking easily and the maintenance crew is unbelievable! The maintenance crew will always greet you with smile and never hesitate to help. I want to especially mention Jonathan and Miguel; these two guys have always been so kind and will over extend themselves to resolve any of your issues in a timely matter. Thanks guys! read more

Been with Serrano for a few months now and it's a pretty good place to live for those (like me) who have just relocated to the area. Great community and features, dog friendly (expensive pet rent and deposit compared to my last apartment), very clean, great location - close to I-5 and the market place. Only complaint so far is the office never answers the phone when you click the option to ring the office as a current resident. But it's a quick walk to the leading office and you can get your questions answered that way. If you're looking at moving here, schedule an apartment viewing with Daniel - he's the best and you don't feel like you're talking to someone only looking for a pay day. He really cares about what you are looking for and getting you the best fit. read more

My husband and I moved into Serrano and Justin was our leasing consultant. Justin was awesome!! He really made us feel important and answered all of our questions!! If this was going to be our future home he wanted to make sure we were going to be happy!! When we first moved in, the freezer was not working, there were stains in the carpet from the previous tenants, the front door would not completely shut, and we found kitchen items still left over in the kitchen cupboards. We immediately called Justin and he took care of everything that second!! He even called us later to make sure everything was taken care of. If it wasn't for him, I would've scored Serrano a lot lower in stars. read more

I have lived at Serrano Apt Homes for years. I will start out by saying that the location is amazing. The Marketplace is a walking distance away and it has been a one-stop shop for my family and I because they literally have everything you need. The thing I HATE about this place though are the dogs!!!! Constantly, I hear dogs barking and it's a nuisance. I don't understand how management can allow dogs in such small apartments. read more

I looked around at several apartment complexes and Serrano was the best one with great layout and super friendly staff. My toilet had a leak and they took care of the problem the same day. The neighborhood is clean and safe. It's conveniently located right next to the Market Place so that makes shopping much easier. I've enjoyed my stay here so far! read more

We lived in Serrano years before and decided to move back to be close to our father-in-laws. This time we had a child which she was about 1 yr old. Moving back here was the biggest mistake. We lived above someone and of course they would always complains for every move we made. It was not pleasant and of course the front office couldn't do anything to make this stay better. My daughter was just walking and we got in trouble for that. How could you even ask us to be considerate for our neighbor? this is an apartment! if you don't like it move out!! we were just walking and i can't control every moves she makes. If my daughter decide to run around the house there is going to be trouble. just a few mins of noise..they are complaining. Its not even quiet hour!! it was freakin 7pm for godsakes!! she is 15lbs child and apparently she made so much noise!! She even asked if we walk heavily!! WTH!! The front office guy is rude! i will tell him about our situation and then he would walk me up to the door and act like he was going to do something. I wasn't done talking. This went on for 6 months...i had to break the lease. If you got children, don't move here!! Serrrano is horrible!! Waste of time and money! This is the end for us with Irvine Company! read more

This place is OK. Not great. Not worth the money, but lets face it- very few properties in Irvine are worth the stated "market value." IAC owns/operates better than 90% of the rental properties in the area, so where are these market variables coming from? Are we supposed to compare IAC with... wait for it... IAC? But I digress. Avoid the east side of the complex unless you want to hear daily announcements and random Beckman High kids getting called to the attendance office. Good luck with parking (especially at night) And God help you if you need to get any sleep during the day; the maintenance at this property is perpetual. There is not a single day when you will not have to hear some guy walking around with a lewaf blower, lawn mower, chainsaw, etc. Leasing consultants are friendly and helpful, but the really helpful ones do not last. Rule: If they are helping you out, they are not maximizing profits for the company, and the next time you walk into leasing, you will not see them. This review is mainly to thank Jana Brabcova (Certified Community Administrator at Serrano leasing office). I've lived at Serrano Junior Bedroom with my husband for about 10 months. The renewal of our lease was a lot more than we expected, so we moved out. That doesn't change anything about the fact that Jana went above and beyond anything that was expected of her to help us out. She broke down all the paperwork for us (complete gibberish!) and tried really hard to make this deal work for us. She was also great help throughout the whole process of moving out and kept us in the loop as we were waiting if our rent-responsible lease to be taken over by new tenant. The majority of the Serrano staff was helpful - very nice and almost all of them remembered us by name. The only two reasons why I am not giving 5* are the prices, and some of the maintenance services. The increase in the price for renewal went from $1415 a month to over $100 more. Which due to its size (520sq ft) and initial price seemed less than reasonable, especially seeing as we had been model tenants. The move in process was very smooth and nice. The apartments are very clean and garages spacious. Another issue are the cheap appliances the Irvine Company uses for their apartment complexes. The washing machine literally tore up so many of our clothes that I had to start putting everything in a washing machine bag when doing our laundry. Plus it started leaking after some services were done to fix it. The NIGHTMARE of Serrano apartments is the garbage disposals. I cannot believe that they do not get something better. I am not kidding, when I say I had to have ours fixed probably once or twice per month on average and my friend that is renting 2BD even more frequently. I am NOT one of those people that shoves everything down the disposal - minimal usage. The kitchen overall was fairly new and very clean. The fridge well kept. Nothing major to complain about, other than the appliances plus couple times we had to "negotiate" with the maintenance staff about how urgently we needed their help. In regards to noise - I think it just depends on your luck. The first few months we didn't even know we had a person above us, and when someone else moved it the new tenant above us we definitely more noisy (even at night, haha) but nothing major. I really liked that Serrano does take care of the trees, the pool and overall area. The complex has BEAUTIFUL bike/jog/horse trails right next door (instantly fell in love with). read more

Overall I've had a great experience, great facilities, helpful staff, prompt and helpful maintenance service. Serrano is a nice quiet community with great parking and location (close to shops, restaurants, and freeway access). What I like about living here the most is that Its staff is always attentive and will do what is in their power to make sure problems are resolved in a timely manner (even if my definition of emergency doesn't always match theirs.) On numerous occasions Crystal has responded to my service calls and every single time she did it in professional manner. I am very bad with repair lingo and she always does an excellent job making sure I understand what needs to be fixed and how it's going to get fixed. I moved within the community around August, did not have any problem with my previous home, but since I moved to this new unit I had so many issues with almost everything, fridge, oven, dryer, carpet, Sink, kitchen counter the top......, I turned on the dishwasher very first day of my move, the whole kitchen flooded with water . I had to call on an emergency call on weekend because the power turned off and I couldn't stop the alarm, no body even returned my call until Monday morning. The fridge stopped working and when they came to fix it , they said it was because of lots of dirt under and behind the fridge, I had and still have issues with this place because they did not inspect the house properly, but they make sure to charge you a lot when you move out. I have lived in Serrano for a little more than two months. Recently I found roaches in my apartment. Serrano offered to have a pest control person spray my apartment. After removing all my belongings I arrived home at 5:00 p.m. on a Friday to find out they still hadn't sprayed my place. When I ask to speak with a manager concerning this they informed me they had a meeting and ran out of their office. Since I need to be out of the apartment for at least 2 hours after spraying I find this to be a huge inconvenience. Their only response was to offer me a movie ticket. I can't wait until my lease is up so I can move out. read more

I have lived at Serrano for five years. With the exception of rent increases, Serrano is a lovely community. Expect rate increases in the $100 range. My options after five years of residence is a $100 increase for a 12 month lease or $115 for a 20 month lease. read more

Rent has been increased $95 in the past two years. Don't be fooled by any specials they offer you. You are just a number to Irvine properties. They want to get you in and get you out. If you can't pay the rent increase, they'll find someone who can and tell you too bad. Don't bother talking to the office or to corporate either. All they will tell you is that it's based on "market value." That's a nice whip cream with a cherry on top answer for "We're greedy and we want your money." Don't ever rent from this company. You're better off going to a privately owned condo. read more

I lived at Serrano for 3 years. It is not the fanciest property in the neighborhood....I ended up moving to a brand new apartment with every bell and whistle one could ever want...but Serrano is a nice, well maintained property. I've lived on properties run by every major management company (BRE, Lincoln, AIMCO, etc) and Irvine Co is by FAR the best. While they may run every property independently, the staff migrates from property to property during their tenure which provides for a consistency of service across their bazillion locations. The staff at Serrano was always helpful, knowledgeable and courteous...the grounds were impeccably maintained and if I had a maintenance issue in my apartment..they fixed it immediately (like hours), left me a note detailing what was done along with a little mint on my counter....then they'd give me a follow up call to be sure I was happy. Most of the companies I've rented from have been pretty good (except Aimco...aimco is a disaster) but Irvine Co has running monstrous properties down to a science. They have a perfectly executed move for everything that will ever happen while you live there. Lock your keys in your garage at 2am (check!) oh...call the 24 hr line and they can rekey your door in 30 minutes. The service was beyond impressive....i've found it impossible to duplicate despite the fact that i now pay four times the amount of rent i did at Serrano. You wont get granite counters or brushed stainless steel appliances but I promise that you will be blown away by the level of service. The downside to renting with Irvine Co. is that in addition to knowing what they're doing on the management side, they also know what they're doing on the pricing side. Oh yeah, sorry reviewers, they know exactly how much your apartment will fetch and sans a horrible inventory bubble, you're going to have to pay it. There is no "loyalty" rental break...it costs X to turn over your apartment and it will likely rent for Y. If you won't resign for Y-X then you can't get mad. Unfortunately, there is no way to get a professionally run place without also getting a professionally priced place. This is unavoidable. As my grandma used to say "You don't always get what you pay for, but you ALWAYS pay for what you get". read more

Smoking area. People can smoking inside and outside. If you are not smoker and hate cigarrets, Do not live here. You will regret it. No solution of complain. I smells from inside of my unit eventhough we are not smokers. So then I was asking to leasing office for just favor that we are smelling smoke, so if you guys can go tell them smoke inside of your unit and close window, it will be help the problem for neigbors. I didnt ask to go tell them not to smoke!! Useless leasing center. Leasing center talk to me that I have to close the window turn the AC on because they have their rights to smoking. Umm.. Okay... Do I have rights to not to smell smoking? They said they will put the letter for whole unit about being smoking blah blah, but never seen letter from leasing center. DO NOT COME HERE. YOU WILL REGRET. Oh also, the main gate being broken for while. It is useless main gate. Seems they didnt want to fix it and save some money. read more

We have lived at Serrano for 5 months and love the community. I am posting because I want to express my gratitude to the amazing Maintenance Manager, Claudia Barajas. We had an after-hours maintenance emergency when we came home to a flooded kitchen and overflowing sink. We contacted the office, and within minutes Claudia was at our unit. Before she arrived, she had contacted a plumber, and she brought a wet vac and towels and proceeded to remove the water efficiently, in a short time. She was there when the plumber arrived to make sure that the sink was snaked properly. She then tracked down a dehumidifier, set up a cleaning person to clean our kitchen the next morning, and had our carpets cleaned by the time we returned from work the next day. She followed up with me the next afternoon to make sure that we were satisfied. She was very friendly and knowledgable - just the type of calm presence that is required in a stressful situation.
