Finally tried Seven Grams. Have heard a lot about the place, but kind of brushed it off until I remembered it during lunch one day. Based on a few reviews, I knew I had to try to get there when they opened to avoid a wait, so I showed up about 10 mins after they opened. Restaurant was already half full. They had a Yelp waitlist going that was a bit confusing, because the wait staff seated some people who just walked in and didn't have their name on the waitlist. I would suggest disabling the wait list until the restaurant actually gets filled. Ordered an XLB, beef roll, and some pan fried dumplings. Price point was decent and good was good. Comparable to DTF and other places in terms of flavor, but a better deal. Beware though - the music can be SUPER LOUD. At least it was during my visit. The xiao long bao here are really good. The dough is just thick enough to hold together, but not too thick. The meat and soup is well-seasoned, and there's good amount of soup in them. The wontons in chili sauce are also good, though I wish they were spicier. The spicy pork paste noodles are solid, the noodles are chewy and I liked all the veggies in it. The food here was overall disappointing. I wanted to keep an open mind despite there being butter noodles on the menu at a Chinese restaurant. I tried the pan fried chicken and shrimp dumplings, which were not pan fried long enough as the bottoms were not crispy at all. Got here around 530PM and maybe 2/3 of the restaurant was full, got a seat right away. Around 6PM people were on a wait-list as the restaurant was full! I didn't order Broccoli but they brought it to my table so I thought it was complementary for all tables. When I got the bill, it was a menu item for broccoli with oyster garlic sauce. Highly recommend avoiding the broccoli menu item, it's just steamed chilled broccoli with a watery sauce that doesn't stick to the broccoli, 100% not worth it. The items I DID order were very tasty. Seven Grams XLB was good. Not great since half the XLB broke but luckily I was able to catch the soup in my spoon. Overall, good XLB, which it held it's shape better though. The spoon is quite small here. Wonton with Chili Sauce was tasty, but I wish the chili sauce was spicier. Flavorful and well balanced. I liked it more than the XLB here. I used the chili sauce for my beef roll also and it went well together! The beef roll came out crispy and it was super filled with meat and cucumber and scallions. I've been to seven grams a couple of times and they've always been ok- not terrible but not amazing. I ordered the seafood fried rice to go and I was so confused when I opened it. There was no seafood to be seen and I was unsure if they gave me the right one. I scooped out half of the rice and found one dime sized scallop and 3 tiny sized shrimps in the other half, maybe 2-3 more tiny scallops. The rice tasted like a wet version of Panda Express fried rice. Their beef rolls are delicious but a bit dry, this place is probably only good for their XLB and wontons, which were juicy! read more

Since my original review more than 2 years ago, I've been back with friends several times. Today, we came for lunch after seeing the "World of Terracotta Warriors" exhibit at the Bowers Museum. Our server kindly offered to give us menu suggestions when I mentioned that it was the first time some of our party had been here. We declined. It's been six days since I came here for the first time (writing the review late), and I am still thinking of the golden prime beef noodle soup here because it was soooo good. I wish I could have another bowl now. It is very different from traditional beef noodle soup, but in a good way. The broth is flavorful and tastes faintly of tomatoes. The kale and pickled vegetables combined well with the broth. Noodles were plentiful. The noodles were also spicy! I have a moderate spice tolerance, so I was expecting a "spicy" Taiwanese noodle dish to not be spicy at all, but it turned out to be a good dose of spiciness! As you can see in the picture, there is a lot of chopped chili. My only criticism is that the beef was very thin and chewy. Everything else was perfect. My boyfriend and I thought the crab xiao long bao here were even better than the ones at Din Tai Fung, in that the filling was much softer. The beef roll was quite sweet and oily, so it was a little odd to me but we still enjoyed it. The cilantro and cucumbers inside the beef roll were refreshing. The broccoli in garlic oyster sauce was very simple lol but it was good, and even though I could have easily made it at home, it was nice to have veggies in the meal. Two of us finished all four dishes with no leftovers. We were stuffed by the end. Service was good. The waiters were attentive and polite. I would recommend coming here maybe 5-10 minutes before opening time to put yourself on their waitlist (there's a stand outside their door even before they've opened), so that you can be one of the first parties in. I was beyond impressed with the experience that Seven Grams put together at my first time there with a friend. We shared some plates and I was impressed with the level of flavor developed in each plate. The cucumber salad had a lovely balance of sweetness, spice and acidity. The chili oil wontons had a nice bite to them and it was bursting with this tender pork flavor. The garlic noodles sauce was fragrant and creamy though I do wish they had one more shrimp and not just 3. The beef bowl was delicious and nicely complimented the caramelized onions though I will say there were alot of them on there.
