My broth was flavorful but just needed more spice so I requested more hot drops and chili powder which they accommodated to no problem. The vegetables and meat quality were good and so fresh. I'm very particular about freshness at shabu places, so I was very satisfied. The only thing lacking and that I'm very picky about are the sauce options. Many Shabu restaurants have a sauce bar which I love so that was what I was sad about that they didn't have. Their two sauces that they serve are good and goes well with the meats. Shabu Wara is one of the better shabu shabu options in this area. It is located in Chino Hills in the middle of the a plaza on the first floor. There is plenty of free parking all around the plaza. I have not ate here on the weekends, only on week nights and I haven't had to wait for a table. This includes coming on holidays like Valentine's and St. Patrick's Day. I've only had to wait for them to open at 5:00 PM. There is bar seating where the workers adjust your heat and table seats where you can adjust your own heat. The service is great! The staff is friendly and very attentive . The food is great! There is a diverse menu selection, lots of appetizers, booze, protein options, etc. The food comes out fast. Something about the steadily increasing richness of the broth as the meal goes on coupled with the ability to order just as much as one can eat and not any more makes it one of my favorite comfort foods. It's also very hands-on, which makes it almost like dinner and a fun shared activity for couples or groups sharing a meal. I would definitely recommend the spicy tonkotsu miso broth and sukiyaki broth for first timers. Both broths are flavorful -- the spicy tonkotsu miso leaning more toward salty, porky richness, and the sukiyaki leaning toward a sweet, soy sauce flavor. I tend to order both the Certified Angus Beef Chuck Prime, which is lean and cooks very quickly, and the Certified Angus Beef Short Rib, which is moderately marbled (for those who enjoy a rich flavor without too much fat). Food - 3.5/5 - I ordered the tom yum soup with regular beef toro and they got the spicy miso tonkatsu with regular lamb. I think the food was decent at best. Wonderful gem of a place if you enjoy fresh and healthy food. The ingredients and food are all fresh and high-quality and in terms of portions they are incredibly generous and I am a picky person when it comes to shabu. I knew this place would be good when I ordered some thing as simple as the raspberry ice tea and got a homemade brewed tea drink that was clearly a homemade and homebrewed recipe that was delicious. Since this was our first time I thought it would be a good idea to order a variety of items since this place has both shabu shabu and sushi. So I ordered the salmon sashimi and to my pleasant surprise the portion was massive and incredibly delicious. Don't let the photo fool you, The portion was generous well beyond what you would normally see at a traditional sushi place but it was soft and fresh. As a side we tried out the tofu and it was a wonderful pairing of bonito flakes and the light sauce. For the shabu shabu we went with Tonkatsu and Spicy Tonkatsu. The broth was light and vibrant and left a lot of room for growth in the flavor profile as you added more vegetables and meat. It's the kind of broth you can enjoy throughout the entire meal without feeling heavy or salty I enjoyed it a lot. In terms of the quality of meat we ordered the certified Angus short rib and the Choice Ribeye. If you're on the healthier side enjoy enjoy a full flavor beef with just the right amount of marbling I would highly suggest Angus short rib. If you just enjoy decadence the ribeye has a healthy amount of marbling and is incredibly soft it's definitely a nice quality of beef. The vegetable selection given to you is also a healthy portion but not overly large just the right amount. I think we found our casual date night or casual meal place that's appropriate for any day of the week. If you were thinking about trying this place out don't think just go eat it and you'll be impressed. So I called up to see if there was a tremendous wait or not. There wasn't, but they were very accommodating in my request to reserve a table for 5. So the place is not a huge place, but they can accommodate a large group if needed. The people were friendly and served water immediately upon seating us. We received our menus and I ordered after perusing the menu with my kiddos. Our food was served after a bit of time, proof that food served is made to order. The jia jang noodles had ample tasty sauce, the onions were soft but had a slight crunch and the noodles were perfect in texture; slightly chewy yet soft. My youngest loves her jia jang instant noodles and told me that these noodles were so yummy and so much better than her usual instant noodles at home. She is so picky that I wasn't sure she would like the authentic good stuff, but she was in love with this dish. Bulgogi over rice was so tasty as well. My son devoured the dish and was well stuffed. The rice was perfectly cooked, the bulgogi was savory and the veggies were slightly crunchy. My eldest girl had spicy seafood and mussel noodle soup. She ate all of it and was stuffed. She loved the soup. I ordered the salt and pepper calamari appetizer. I liked it a lot. The flaky crunchy crust was tasty and light and the calamari was not overcooked. A word of caution: Beware the dipping sauce. I am accustomed to strong wasabi, but what I had thought was a tame sauce was a type of horseradish which my husband couldn't eat. Whoops! But I still enjoyed it, and the calamari was tasty enough for my husband to eat alone. If you don't like horseradish, the creamy sauce that looks like miso, isn't miso. This is my favorite place ever, everything is delicious and it hits every time!!! There is one server that is the best, has amazing customer service and always makes sure we don't need anything else. He takes care of the place by himself and it is amazing how flawless he is, I'm not sure what his name is but he is the tall guy with glasses and usually always has a hat on. On the other hand Nathan has the worst attitude and very poor customer service, at least when I'm there. He is not welcoming, he doesn't come check on our table, he skips our table every time we need something but always checks on other tables. Decided to go here for dinner on a Wednesday night. Location of the restaurant is within a plaza, kind of hidden so it took a while to find this place. We walked in and got seated right away. There were only two parties seated in the restaurant. We each order the regular angus beef with sukiyaki and spicy miso tonkotsu and added on the fish ball with roe. The food came out right after we ordered since it was already prepped. The order was 22$ each and came with a side of veggies and a bowl of rice. All their broths are an additional 3-4$ asides from the original broth which is just water for 1$. I wish the broth came with the order because it makes you have to pay an additional amount just to cook your food. Asides from pricing, the meat and broth was tasty. Their veggie selection could be better. Overall, if you're looking for a quick shabu pick me up I would recommend this place but if you're looking for more selection and quantity of food, I'd rather just pay the extra $5-10 at an ayce shabu place that would be more bang for your buck! read more

The accompanying veggie bowl is skimpy in comparison to other shabu places. It comes with a little bit of udon and glass noodles. Make sure you check your veggies prior to placing them in your broth - I found some veggies that looked old/wilted/with brown/black spots. Overall I thought it was kinda pricey for mediocre food at best. Pretty much everything you get is a la carte (see the menu pic I took). The broths and the dipping sauces were not very flavorful. My mom hates doing ayce since our family eats very little, so we decided to order the half & half hot pot for $35.99 for four people which came with beef bulgogi and spicy seafood broth, 2 noodle set, and 2 veggie sets, and a plate of beef toro. I asked if we can replace the noodles for rice and they our waiter said we can get the noodles and they will give us rice on the side. Service was great, servers were very attentive. My mom dropped her chopsticks and a waiter quickly came to give her a new pair when we didn't even ask!!! There was way too much food, so we asked them if we can take it to-go. BRING YOUR OWN SALT! or seasoning for that matter... the broth was soooo bland, it was not good! The only reason for the 3rd star is because of the service! Our waitress was soo nice, helpful and was able to answer all our questions. To start we ordered a pitcher of Sapporo and an appetizer of Spicy Tuna over crispy rice. Which is the one food item I do recommend! My friend does NOT eat raw seafood but said he couldn't even taste the fish! He really liked it as well! And for dinner we had the spicy tonkotsu broth and forgot which protein we ordered! But either way I DO NOT recommend the hot pot as it was flavorless and very disappointing!
