You're lead to believe that's the prices listed near the meats is the price you pay for the experience but you in fact pay for the meat AND broth. I can understand the upcharge for the side (rice is free) but the charge for broth is so mind boggling. Anyways, the AYCE is only on Tuesdays and ranges starting at $70. Kind of insane. Charging that much for the ambience they're providing with higher quality meat just doesn't match. It could use a face lift. Hands down my favorite hot pot place in the Chino area. I've been a big fan of WARA since it first open. I love the space and how quiet it usually is, it makes the dining experience very enjoyable. Since I normally come with a friend or two, we always get something that we can share. My go-to is the half and half hot pot which comes with the spicy seafood and bulgogi broth and your choice of meat. The bulgogi broth is honestly just okay and I only use it to cook the meat. I use the spicy seafood for everything else and it kind of reminds me of eating a spicy cup ramen except the ingredients are fresh and not as bad for you. The best cut of meat that they offer here is honestly the beef blade. It's the perfect combination of tender and chewy so that's definitely what I would recommend for everyone to try. Plus, not a lot of places serve that cut. I've also tried the beef toro which was too fatty for my liking. Overall, I always look forward to coming back to Wara. It can be a little difficult to find because you have to park your car and then walk towards the center of the buildings. If you were craving more heat just ask for hot drops and bam... it's immediately more spicy. So after choosing your broth you need to choose your protein so we chose the toro beef, the cheapest option. The large portion was quite substantial and satisfying and paired very well with the sesame and Shoyu sauces they provided. Not sure why they can't switch the carb option to vegetables as most places would- I understand it's Covid but I've actually been to places during the pandemic that would. We didn't want rice and just wanted more vegetables.. Otherwise, the quality of the meat was great They have outdoor seating for dinner everyday after 5pm currently but recently started doing lunches on weekends starting at 12pm. I must admit it is special with the Chinese-Korean fusion going on. The menu cover states that the owners are second and third generation Chinese from Shandong (my ancestry ground) born and raised in Korea. I guess it's to tell the patrons that the Korean foods will have a Chinese twist ant the Chinese foods will have a Korean twist. Well my business was partners and I ordered two Chinese dishes and one Korean dish and we were utterly disappointed. The black bean noodles that fellow Yelpers raved about was far from the 炸酱面 I'm accustomed to. For the enthusiasts you should really check out Bistro Na for authenticity and presentation. The spicy beef noodles was probably the best dish in presentation and taste BUT if you're expecting the Taiwanese "the bomb" version then you will be surely disappointed. But if I return this will probably be the dish I will order because my partner said the Korean flavor is actually not bad but not great. Unfortunately I ordered bulgogi over rice and it was definitely the weakest dish but the server insisted that it was their top seller. Yaks! Just moved to the area and decided to try a local shabu place. The reviews looked pretty positive and so we decided to give it a shot on a Friday night. The location is a bit strange as it's tucked behind some other businesses and so parking was a bit of a walk. Nothing too bad but it's not like pulling up to the front of a restaurant and walking in. Feels almost like parking at a mall parking lot and walking into a building to get to your destination. The place is small. Not many tables and then there is a bar section. The layout didn't make sense to me but they work with what they have. The girl at the front said we could sit at the bar right away or wait 10-15 mins for a table. There were some open tables but they must have had reservations? Took a spot at the end of the bar. The burners looked old and they ended up being old. Took a long time to heat up the broth... eventually found out that the server put our burner temp on medium instead of high. The wait staff was all high school and college kids. They were attentive which was nice. The miss on the burner temp meant I was literally waiting and watching water boil. I would give the staff high marks for being attentive and friendly though. On to the actual food. The quality of the produce was very poor. The quality and flavor of the broth was poor and lacked flavor. The quality of the proteins were ok but not exceptional for the price. So the produce was really poor quality with much of the produce being inedible. Wilting veggies and frozen everything ... didn't make us feel confident in the freshness of the food. The broth was really sad also. We got foundational broths - miso and spicy tonkotsu. Both lacked any real flavor and the spicy tonkotsu felt really low quality with a ton of oil that overwhelmed any other flavors. The prime rib eye was ok but very expensive. It has a heavy amount of fat and the slices were inconsistent thickness levels. Same goes for the jidori chicken. For two people with no drinks and just food it was $75. Pretty steep considering two key components of the meal were not good (broth and veggies) After walking out of the restaurant, she said to me "yea we aren't coming back here" and I couldn't have agreed more. I suppose this is on me for not wanting to make the drive to rowland and DB where there are better options for shabu. I have learned my lesson here and feel fortunate that neither of us got sick after this meal. There are lots of better options out there if you're willing to make the drive. Shawn (or Sean) deserves a 10/10 for his level of customer service. Walked in here right at opening time at 5:30 on a Sunday. I ordered the Beef Short Rib (Rich in flavor with moderate marbling) and my fiancee ordered the Beef Chuck Prime (Lean and Tender). The broth tasted fine, but when the meat came out, it was .... disappointing to say the least. Mine was actually fine, but my fiancee's looked like a plate of pure fat. She got MAYBE 3 pieces of edible meat - the rest was the picture attached. This was disgusting (no offense if you like super fatty meats like this) and inedible, so I brought it up with our first server (I forget her name) and she basically said," Oh, that's just how the cuts are. It depends on the cut". Well the whole point of ordering "Lean and tender" is for little to no fat... If she wanted a fatty cut then she would have ordered the Toro. Anyhow, after about 10 more minutes of deciding how we were going to proceed (at this point, my fiancee had hardly eaten any meat and I was just sharing mine), Shawn (or Sean) passes by and asks us how everything is. I brought up my issue with him and he immediately brought it back to the kitchen. He apologized for the plate, and brought out another full portion of the meat my fiancee was supposed to get. This one was perfect and exactly what we had expected to receive from the beginning. Honestly, I was going to give this place a 1 star but Sean brought it up to a 3. I've rarely seen a dish receive so much attention from forks in my life. The forks just would not let this Bulgogi be. The juicy dumplings are juicier than the song by Mtume. So juicy-y-y-ay. The wonders of liquid chicken flavors last forever at Wara's. I didn't realize how much hunger I had cooped up inside of me before I tried a bite of Wara's dumplings. Would order again and again. I'm a-fried that (heh, heh, get it?) the fried dumplings checked all the boxes. Yummy. Yummy. And, Yummy. The golden brown hue was a Midas touch. Each munch on the fried dumplings pleased the palate. They were great for dipping in soy sauce. The beef noodle soup rejuvenated my enervated being. I had so much energy after one bite of soup that I almost oinked out on all of the kimchi. I do wish there had been more kimchi. It's a small but mighty flavorful extra here. The staff at Wara's impressed me. Every staff member I encountered treated the GF and I with the utmost politesse. The server answered all of my clueless questions, and when one of us dropped a set of chopsticks, a chef, who happened to be passing by, replaced then immediately. Wara's cohesive, professional staff is a jewel. I would like to conclude this review on Wara's behalf. Some reviews of Wara's critique its food for not fulfilling their pre-conceived notions of authentic Asian cuisine and etc. One too many assumptions about center-periphery type authenticity are entailed in such attitude. Wara's fixes dishes that reflect the background and interests of its staff. Not the background and interests of another restaurant's staff. The language about it being "good for Chino" is classist and snide. Wara's makes good food and can be found in Chino. Closest shabu spot to my house so I decided to give it a try. There were a lot of wow factors such as the appetizers and the dipping sauce, but it was lacking in some other areas. I'll give a full breakdown of my meal below. I definitely would come back here because it was pretty good and service was friendly as well. Appetizers, sauces and service really helped bring this up to a 4, but overall the food was good! - Baked Mussles - normally not a fan, but the sauce for this was amazing!!! They cut the mussel for you too, so it makes it much easier to eat. - Squid Legs - Probably my favorite part of the meal! Crispy, whole pieces of squid legs that are battered to perfection. I dipped some of the legs in the mussel sauce too!! So bomb. - Spicy Tonatsu - Broth was good as well. Nice flavor to it - Veggies - not enough variety and overloaded with lettuce. - Prime Chuck - Quality of the meat was good. I originally got the beef toro (beef belly) but upon receiving the cut, I realized it was a lot fattier than what I'm used to. I wouldn't recommend the beef toro. It was 80% fat and 20% beef. The color was mostly white and hardly any red. They were willing to switch it out for me though, because I wasn't satisfied with it. I thought that was really nice. - Salmon (on the side) - I normally order salmon as my protein, but this wasn't an option here. You could get a seafood assortment, but that's not what I wanted considering it's normally only salmon I get. This ended up working out nicely because I wasn't happy with the quality of the salmon and liked the beef more. - Ponzu & Goma - both sauces are very good!! I'm a huge dipper so I was happy they didn't disappoint. - Hot Drops - spicy the way it should be! I'm not sure if it's spicier than other hot drops or if it's because they lost the dropper that comes with the oil. They used a straw instead, so it didn't really accurately dispense the hot drops. When we arrived at the restaurant it was still early dinner time and there were quite abit of empty tables and bar seats. There was a group ahead of us. But both the group and us were standing there for more than 15 minutes with no one to even seat us. The two waiter and waitress the whole time were just walking around the restaurant back and forth for so many times without actually doing much. They kept going into the kitchen walked out with nothing pretended to do something at the bar area then walked around again. There were so many tables that were not cleaned up after the customers had left yet these two waiter and waitress still kept walking around with no intention of cleaning up the tables. Then we finally got seated the food came out pretty fast. But to be honest the price is way too high for the quality of food. Soup base is super salty. And while we were eating the two waiter and waitress still did the same thing, walked around the whole restaurant around five times and not doing anything really. And by that time it was peak dinner time and people were just standing in the front waiting to be seated. But the two still didn't clean up tables. And just when we were eating seeing these two walked all around like a thousand times without doing much really was so stressful and about to give me an anxiety attack. More and more people were waiting. There were at least 3 empty tables that they could just seat the customers (no need to clean up) The whole bar there were only 3 people who sat there yet they don't seat the groups that were waiting because they didn't clean up. There were two stations that the customer left when we just sat down. And by the time we were about done eating they still didn't clean up. My family wanted to get Shabu and I had always wanted to try this place. We decided to try this place and we were blown away with the quality of the food. They have the best pork bone soup that I ever had. It was not salty like other places and yet it was very tasty. We ordered the wagyu and it was the best - well worth it. Very generous portion for the price. Wagyu beef had the perfect marbling that it melts in your mouth. We also ordered a sashimi platter and the fish quality is better than most sushi place in the area. The service was very good and friendly. We had a nice chat with the cook-owner and his wife. About once or twice a month, I'll crave Jja Jang Myun and fried dumplings and since we moved to Chino Hills, I've been on the search until now. Wara Bistro serves up a freaking delicious Jja Jung Myun! It's soooo good that I have dreams about this stuff. I ordered the large which was $11 and also had the fried dumplings which was $9. I thought $9 was a bit pricey until I opened the box and these things are massive + comes with either 6 or 8 pcs. The box of noodles also came in a pretty big container and was good for about 4 servings. So happy that I found a place near home and will definitely make this a monthly staple in our household. Never in my life have I experienced service this bad as I did today. Couldn't even try the food, we waited so long to be acknowledged after sitting at our table. The wait to sit alone was long, but was expected, but It felt like my husband and I were ghosts... we didn't get acknowledged once from the many times the waiters passed by and served the other tables that were seated around the same time. We finally got the host come and nervously ask if we wanted anything to drink. We asked for a pitcher of beer, received it shortly after with half of it filled with foam.. waited another who knows how long in the twilight zone, still with no waiter. So glad I found another Shabu hidden treasure around my area. My bf and I came for dinner last week and ordered the Prime Rib Eye and Beef Toro. I love that the meat slices were super fresh and not too thin where the pieces would rip on the plate. We also split the spicy miso and tonkotsu soup. The meat was not the best quality but it was still good. We got the Beef Toro and the Beef Short Rib but the Beef Toro was definitely the better out of the two due to the fattiness. The udon is definitely a better choice than rice however it does cost extra. Which I didn't like. If you sit at the bar, you CANNOT control your own stove, which we did not like at all. We would have to constantly ask the servers and they also told us there's a few that didn't work or are slower since they are older. Besides that, the service was good. A great spot for Japanese shabu shabu in the neighborhood! We came here for lunch. It was the restaurant's soft opening. They had a good menu already and served many popular appetizers like garlic edamame, takoyaki, fried chicken, soft shell crabs, etc. Great soup base options: We chose spicy miso tonkotsu and regular tonkotsu as soup base. Flavorful and healthy. They had vegan options too. Many entree options too: wagyu, different types of ribeye, kurobuta, lambs, seafood and veggies. And we ordered the regular but they had large and side order for smaller portion. Each entree order came with veggies and noodles. We also ordered the spinach ramen and Loved it. I especially loved then meat quality. It was really fresh, tender and juicy. I liked the size and thickness of the meat slice that it soaked up the flavor of the soup base but was a big piece and cooked within 10 seconds. We didn't need sauce. We checked in for free sake but we didn't drink so they gave us mochi ice cream. But we also ordered the ice cream macaroons. It was a great lunch.
