Hands down the fastest service at any restaurant on the island! The island has been hit with a cold front and what better way to celebrate than AYCE hot pot?? The server didn't prompt us on anything, so we had to ask a million questions. You order a soup base (I got the original house soup) and up to 4 choices of meat at a time. There is a HUGE salad bar style array of seafood, dipping sauces, veggies, and noodles. Eat to your heart's content, just make sure you eat majority of your food or you will be charged for wasting food. The soup base and first round of meat arrived before I even got a chance to check out the "salad bar" lol The soup base isn't extremely flavorful, so I recommend checking out the dipping sauces. The veggies are super fresh and the quality of meat is excellent. I was able to try all the different cuts/style of meats (except chicken) at least once and they're all great! Service is super fast, but not very friendly. Glad I finally got to try this place out. This place doesn't rank in comparison to my favorite spots. Not sure if I will be back anytime soon. I asked if they had a broth that was vegetarian friendly and they said all their broths contain some sort of seafood, and of course they have the meat broth options as well. You can't even just do a simple seaweed broth? Thank goodness I'm not a real vegetarian so I opted for the house broth. The house broth was good. Decided to give Shabuya Shabu Shabu a try for lunch today. It was very busy at lunchtime but the wait wasn't very long. Usually they have different prices for lunch and dinner and the host failed to mention that since today was a holiday, they were doing the dinner menu all day. My friend and I were expecting to pay the lunch price of $17.99 but instead were charged the dinner price of $27.99. The server and management were not the least apologetic that we were not informed about the menu change. I ordered the tonkotsu broth which was tasty. There was a nice selection of veggies and seafood as well as meats to choose from (4 at a time) appetizers were available and pretty good as well. The sauce bar had many options and the sauces were delicious. All in all, my friend and I had a nice lunch here. What would have made it better was if the staff would properly inform their customers of menu price change for holidays. read more

When I arrived, the hostess checked me in and I entered my phone number into their app to get a text when the table was ready. I really liked that you could go walk around and not need to wait outside listening for your name. Our wait wasn't long at all and when we sat down our server came by right away to explain how the menu works let us sample some broths he had on him. You get all of your seafood, vegetables and noodles from the buffet area, and order your meat and appetizers (different variations of fried chicken) from the server. I had the spicy miso broth which was tasty and the volcano chicken appetizer was good too. All of the meats were good and the seafood seemed fresh. Towards the end of our meal, everyone at my table got uncomfortably hot, but I think that's because we were constantly over the 240 degree boiling pot. All you can eat shabu shabu/hot pot in Ala Moana center? I dig it. It's the most affordable Monday through Thursday for lunch at $17.99. Price gets steeper in the evening and on weekends at $27.99. They quoted me a 15 minute wait tonight and texted me in about 10 minutes when my table was ready. Not only is it AYCE shabu shabu and hot pot but it's also AYCE gyoza and chicken karaage!!! We ordered a bottle of grape soju and we were good to good. Tonight was my second visit as I have previously gone to dine in during lunch. The first visit I had the spicy miso broth. I was moved from Japan like two months ago and just started looking for good Japanese restaurants but most of them are disappointing as I always comparing to the one I had in Japan (because they are very good and affordable). However this restraunts had very good quality of meats and fresh veggies with rich and deep tasting broth. I thought pricing is bit expensive but considering that it's in Hawaii and is one of Ala Moana shopping center's restraunts I think it's good pricing. Another good part is customer service, I was served by #Jelly and he was very polite and quick, took care of me very well. I didn't even have to ask for water refill because he always realizes that I am running out and asks for water refill, which was very satisfying as I drink crazy amounts of water. The broths are very simple but what really makes this place is the sides that you can put into your shabu shabu. There are many vegetable and seafood options that are available for vegetarians. One thing that was surprising was seeing baby octopus as an option for your shabu. It Just make sure you do not cook it too long or it can become rubber-like. My family agreed that we will all be coming back to Shabuya hot pot. It was great, lots of fun, and good eating. In some ways, Shabuya is similar to 'Gen' Korean grill which is at the other end of the mall. Both have a less expensive lunch deal Mon. to Thurs. Prices go for up for dinner and lunch on weekends. They are both all you can eat with controls on how much meat you can order at one time...and a penalty for ordered but uneaten meat trays. Service: Friendly, helpful and plentiful staff. Always easy to find for reordering items. Hostess/host desk functions smoothly despite how many customers are waiting. Menu: No real menu, it is AYCE hot pot only. Order your own broth, order some meats, rice, and included appetizers and then go up to the self serve area and select your own veggies, seafood, side dishes, noodles, and sauces. Everyone has their own individual pot: You have your own metal bowl for cooking and your broth is brought in pitchers poured into the bowls and the induction plate is turned on and you are informed it will take 6 minutes to boil. Work Flow: After making some rookie mistakes and burning my tongue, I figured out a couple of things. I preferred the induction heat level at P4 and not P6. Plus I started putting items in the 'cooling bowl' before dipping in sauce and eating without burning my tongue. I have it down now. I'll be a pro on my next visit. Vegan: I chose the 'sukiyaki' broth and thought this was best for vegetables/tofu. I tasted the miso and spicy miso broths and they were good too. I believe there is some dashi in some of the broths. Nothing beats hotpot on a rainy day. So everyone else had the same brilliant idea to go & the line was long. Luckily for 5 people if we choose to sit at a table with four hot pot heaters instead of 5 it cut down the waiting time by an hour. So we waited for 20 minutes! Yay! When you sit down, you can choose your choice of broth. My sister and I shared a pot so we choose sukiyaki. My boyfriend got the pork based broth. You can choose up to 3 meats at a time. There is also an option to choose gyoza and kaarage. You can place 3 orders of Gyoza or chicken at a time. Meat orders are also placed 3 at a time. The "wagyu meat" didn't quite taste like good wagyu meat. I guess it was okay. Service was good! The staff was really kind and did their best to service you. The seafood disappointed me. It wasn't cleaned that well because I was able to taste bits of sand. Hopefully next time it'll be good. I would probably return for lunch instead of dinner. read more

I've tried many of the hot pot places in Oahu and the newly opened Shabuya is by far on the top of that list! Shabuya is located in Ala Moana Mall across from Jamba Juice on the first level. Parking should be easy to find as there is a large parking lot across the street. I ordered the Original House Broth (You also have the choice of Miso, Spicy Miso, Tonkotsu, Sukiyaki), the Gyoza, Original Chicken Karaage and Volcano Chicken Karaage to start off. The broth was light with a perfect touch of saltiness for my liking. The appetizers were just okay, I believe they could have been much better if they were hot when it arrived at my table. I then ordered one plate of each meat, and went to the buffet line to grab my additional vegetables, seafood and tofu. When I first heard of an all you can eat hot pot place, I was skeptical of the quality of the meats, seafood and vegetables. However, I was pleasantly surprised with the freshness and quality of the food. The service was pretty spot on, from the time we sat down to the time we left, our server came over frequently to check on us every 10 minutes or so. One the worst Shabuya I ever being too. Wait 3 hours to get seated. Immediately leave after 15 mins. The food is ok, but the services was terrible. I felt unwelcome by the staffs, not sure because we are tourist. Clean one of out plate without asking regardless there still food on that plate. Knocked our utencils down without looking back to ask us if we want another set. Ask for water 3-4 times but well guess what, finally come when we want to leave. This is my second times in Hawaii, and also my second times dine here. so yeah, they probaly dont care if I ever come back. A good choice. Bummers that it wasn't spicy, but at least it was flavorful without being salty. The hype about this place was unbelievable spanning across family, friends and co-workers. Everyone just raved about Shabuya! My wife and I was finally able to take advantage of our favorable work schedules and made it to Shabuya before the large rush. We got there at around 5:30 pm and there was no wait for 2 adults and my toddler. We did notice at about 6:15ish the restaurant was fully filled in. I believe wait times during peak dinner hours could be as much as 2 hours so we were really fortunate to get in early. Once you walk in the place really reminds you of Gen, the ayce Korean BBQ restaurant, from the tables to the colors of the walls to the colors of the employees' clothing haha. The hostess when seating you will shout out the number of folks in your party and all the employees will respond "Welcome to Shabuya!" There is only one option here and that's ayce which for dinner time is $27.99. There are about 5 broth options, several meat options, but a full bar of seafood (shrimp, clams, mussels, crab, octopus, fish), noodles (udon, chapche, vermicelli, even Korean noodles in its block form), veggies and even fresh eggs! AYCE hotpot? This place definitely did not disappoint! Love the waitlist via their website &/or Yelp - true to time! With C19 still in effect, the buffet is serviced by the staff. I liked the notepad where we were able to mark off what extra items we wanted & the servers grab everything for you. The individual electric burners/pots are a plus & heat up very quickly. Some of our food items came frozen (udon, fishcake, lobster balls) but it didn't pose a problem with cook time. Our meat trays were replenished quickly & drinks were topped off regularly. The meats were sliced nice & thin for quick cooking but we did have slight difficulties with peeling some off the trays. Maybe if they kept them frozen it would be easier. They also didn't provide any serving utensils (tongs mainly) for picking up the raw meat. We had an extra pair of chopsticks (since our daughter carries her own set) & used those rather than the pair we were eating with. It was a busy Saturday night with many birthday celebrations being announced & loud K-Pop music playing, yet our server Sam kept his cool the whole time. We made a visit to Shabuya after finding out you get your own personal hot pot broth with all you can eat! Sounded like a win-win for us. We put our name on the list to be seated and they take your phone number so you can receive a text for when your table is ready, I like that since the wait can be long and gives you a chance to walk around Ala Moana and shop or look. After being seated we each got to order our own broth, I went with the house broth while my friends each ordered different ones. We each get to order our own choice of meats and even an appetizer, after orders are taken we got to head over to the unlimited toppings and seafood bar! Loved the seafood choices such as shrimps, clams, crab legs and of course all the veggies and sauce you could want, my favorite sauce was the sesame. I also want to give props to our server who treated us very well and always made sure we were taken care of. The reason I give three stars is for the broth, maybe it wasn't our style but the broth was very plain to us and lacked some flavor, we tried each others broth but couldn't really tell the differences. With a variety of broths, quality meats, a sauce bar, and an endless selection of hot pot fillers, shabuya offers one of the best AYCE hot pot experiences! I chose the sukiyaki broth since I like soy sauce-based soups. It was simple but once you start cooking all the meats and veggies in there the flavor really builds. Definitely took full advantage of the meats they had to offer! My favs were the US wagyu beef toro, shabuya rib eye, and US wagyu beef round. The portions are small but our server would check in on a pretty constant basis to re-take our order! Sauces are great and the self serve veggie, noodle, and seafood bars were just the icing on the cake! If you go at a peak time, be prepared to wait for a bit! Maximum of four orders of meat per TABLE at a time. Portions are adjusted upward for the number in your party. You CANNOT pile all the meats on one plate and ask for three more (I know you were thinking that). On offer: OK selection of usual hotpot veg (ie baby bok choy, mizuna, Napa cabbage, carrots, bamboo shoots, enoki mushrooms, bean sprouts) and some that that make no sense (lettuce, broccoli, cucumbers?). Average quality, previously frozen, shrimp, scallops, blue crab, baby octopus, and mystery fish plus cooked clams mussel meat, imitation crab, and a plethora of different seasoned fish balls. I usually don't like hotpot and maybe it's because I've had bad experiences but my friends took me here and it was delicious. I reserved a table through Yelp which was super convenient. We had to wait a couple minutes once we got there but it wasn't a big deal. I like that you can adjust the heat yourself rather than wait for a waiter to do it. We pretty much got everything on the menu and I like that it's not frozen like some other hotpot places. I think it definitely makes a difference in texture and flavor. The sukiyaki broth wasn't too heavy for me I really enjoyed its subtle flavor with the add ins. Overall a great spot for some hotpot for a decent price! read more
