Service here is good and waiters check in regularly with your party so you don't have to constantly wave for their attention. The restaurant is very big so I don't have to wait long on the weekdays for a table. They play a lot of EDM music here. I am giving this place a 3.5 stars. My kids and I enjoyed it. It is different from what I am used to since it's Japanese hotpot. The flavors and f the broth were very basic but you can spruce them up with different sauces. My daughter and I ordered the spicy miso but it had a Smokey after taste which I thought was weird. It tasted like they simmered their broth with the bottom of the pot being burnt. My son ordered tonkatsu and that tasted like something from an instant ramen packet. The selection of veggies were meh. Meats were ok. The beef toro was my fave but the pork belly was not fresh and on the brown side instead of pink. We loved the appetizer chicken karrage. You can only order two items per appetizer and 4 meat pick every 5 minutes. Portions are small.Our servers were nice, attentive and fast service. We came there for lunch, fairly busy, open space, loud and good music play list. For about $30, AYCE hot pot is one of the best-value meals you can get in SJ. I came in ready to overlook a few flaws and leave happy. Unfortunately, reality had other plans. The broth situation was tragic. My fiancée got the original house broth, and I got the spicy miso. The spicy miso had a tiny kick to it, but there was absolutely nothing miso about it. Meanwhile, the original house broth was straight up no flavor, nothing. The meats? We ordered the prime blade and prime cross rib, but I'm still trying to figure out what part was prime. The slices were paper-thin, overly fatty, and gave strong grocery store energy. 99 Ranch has better quality meat. Then came the gyoza. Room temperature. Not warm. Not freshly made. Just sitting there like they had accepted their fate hours ago. Honestly impressive. The side bar was equally confusing. The vegetables looked tired, the raw shrimp looked like they had just broken it apart from a frozen ice block five minutes earlier and the options felt completely random. Sliced potatoes? Why? Who hurt you? And no, I didn't take pictures. Halfway through the meal, I decided my phone didn't deserve to be traumatized too. Two people suffering through this experience was enough. I tried the spicy miso broth and tonkatsu which didn't have much flavor, if anything it's the dipping sauce you choose to dip your meats/veggies, etc in to give off some type of flavor. Also, even on the highest stove setting--it takes awhile to get a boil going if it can even reach a boil. I do like the buffet style set-up and items have always been stocked when I dined here. It's kept clean and there are solid typical hot pot items to choose from. As for the meats, my highlight was the beef toro and I didn't really care for anything else. They are cut a bit too thin for my liking though as the meat tends to fall apart easily. The sauce choices are limited with ponzu being the main one. The chicken karaage appetizer and gyoza are ok. I came about an hour and a half before closing, and the experience was a bit disappointing. The hostess was repeatedly coughing into her hand, then used the same hand to grab our utensils and bowls before seating us. Another staff member was sweeping and shaking out floor mats right next to the buffet-style section filled with fresh vegetables and soup ingredients, and she leaned the broom handle against a stack of clean bowls. Meanwhile, someone else was spraying Windex directly onto the sneeze guard over the buffet. All of this happened within minutes of arriving. The meat and soup itself were good, but some of the appetizers--like the karaage chicken--weren't very fresh and tasted like they had been sitting out for a while. While this experience was wild, our server was really great. Very helpful and he checked in on us often. After looking through the veggies, tofu, seafood and noodle offerings - we got what we wanted and came back to our seats. Our soups were already there and we started adding items in. My friend got the house soup base while I got half spicy miso and half tonkatsu. Overall, I liked what I put into my soup and thought all the ingredients were good/fresh. I kept trying to doctor up my soup - it was lacking something - spice, salt, sugar? I thought the soup was pretty bland, but this tends to be the case when I'm at a shabu shabu place. There certainly was plenty of everything and the meats came out pretty quickly. Our appetizers, on the other hand - one never came out and we had to ask a few times to get an order out. We were at a booth at the end of the row, so I felt like we didn't catch the server's attention as much - our waters didn't get filled at all during the time we were there. Overall, I liked the place and enjoyed the food. It would have been better if my soup base had more flavor (more a personal preference, as I do like stronger flavors), and the service was a bit more attentive - but I would come back. Again, this place provides many types of beef (no briskets) but its Toro would do with plenty of fatty. Everything is no additional charge like some others I read. The seafood bar has plenty of seafood for anyone delight. The sauce bar consists of ponzu and sesame sauces that is a great mix for me to dip my rare beef. Important thing is my family all like the food and the place. For me the original broth is tasty and the price doesn't break my bank The service here is the best to none. The server took orders on a digital pad and the food carriers bring the food out instantly. Great system. Everyone is pleasant and fast. The empty trays were removed quickly for new trays to come. My family and I love going here!! We go on the regular because the food is so good and options are sufficient. The serving staff is excellent and honestly have never had a bad experience with any of them.. My beef is with the "manager" or older lady checking people in the front with glasses. she's super rude and we had several encounters with her.. the last time she tried to charge my son who is well below 50" inches full price.. and when we asked to change the price she argued with us and didn't want to. Then we come back again on a different occasion and she sees us and again automatically assumes he's over 50" so we told her to make sure and check before assuming like last time. She checked and saw he was under and STILL charged us for full price... so beware this lady is and will try to get one over you. To the rest of the staff, thank you! This spot has become a favorite of mine when I'm craving shabu. First of all, it's all-you-can-eat. I love me an AYCE spot. The price, in comparison to other AYCE hot pot, is a good price point. I love that you can get your veg from the salad bar-type area. No waiting. I do wish that there were a couple of other items available for the sauce bar, but they do have a good selection available. The service tends to be attentive more often than not and they are always friendly. I will say though, it does get super busy during dinner service even during the week. We rarely have to wait for more than 15 minutes to get seated, but the servers are definitely working for their tips. I love that this spot is casual, good eats. I definitely prefer to dress down than dress up when it comes to going out. If you like casual shabu nights, check them out. read more
