This AYCE place can definitely get busy so you might wait a while before you get seated. I would definitely recommend adding yourself to the waitlist. There is plenty of parking inside and seats inside. Customer service was good and the workers were friendly. For the broths, you can mix them. I like the spicy miso and the tonkatsu combo as well as the sukiyaki and the spicy miso combo. The meats were decent quality and we didn't have to wait too long for the meats to come out. I like the variety of sauce options they provided. The self-serve area can be cleaner. The vegetables and the seafood at the self-serve bar were okay. The chicken karaage was average as well. Their capril sojus are refreshing. Given it's price point, it's a solid AYCE spot. read more

This place is our usual dine in, but our recent visit says otherwise. We went a couple times this month, thinking it was one bad day. I don't usually leave reviews, but this visit was frustrating enough that I felt I should. The iPad ordering system was more of a hassle than a convenience. It slowed everything down and made the whole experience feel clunky. Our server, Aiden, took a long time to come to our table, and once he did, it was hard to get his attention again. We waited a while for refills and had to look around just to ask for simple things. It also seemed like he spent more time chatting with coworkers at the front and back than checking on his tables. The bartender, Kobe, also seemed overwhelmed. Drinks took much longer than expected, and the bar didn't appear to be running very smoothly. Kept dropping off drinks that we didn't order or drinks that we did order at the wrong table. Whenever we look over at the bar, he seems very attached to his phone when orders are coming out The food runner, Asian tall looking, made things even more confusing by bringing meats and appetizers to the wrong tables more than once. Watching people get the wrong food didn't inspire much confidence that orders were being handled carefully. Overall, the service felt disorganized and inattentive from start to finish. I know everyone has off days, but there were too many issues during a couple of visits to overlook. Holy cow. This was the fastest serving experience I've had in my life. LOLLLL Any moment we placed an order of meat with our server, our meat would be on our table within the next 3 minutes. LOL?? And it was packed that night!! We had to wait for entry. My friends and I were all so amazed because they even gave us our meat before our soup at one point. Our server came around very often too. Perfect speed to maximize your AYCE grind. As for the food, it's all decent stuff. I loved the bar of sauces, noodles, fishcakes, etc. They had SUCH a wide variety!!! And it was restocked/filled quite decently. I never had to wait. The spicy miso broth is very yummy, and I usually am not a fan of that flavor! The tonkotsu is alright. I'm pretty picky about my tonkotsu because I want it to taste a particularly creamy porky way. However, I really didn't care about that in this instance LOL. They have a buffet style for all of the toppings that makes it so fun to self-serve, and they have SO MANY toppings to choose from it's amazing! The broth selections are also delicious, spicy miso is my go-to. It's a really big and well ventilated space, so you don't feel cramped and it's good for couples or groups. You order the meat but everything else is self serve at the food bar in the middle of the restaurant! Lots of different options for vegetables, mushrooms, noodles, seafood and tofu. Now that the temperatures outside have dropped, the frequency of eating hot pots has risen. After searching on Yelp, my friend and I decided to try Sahbuya in Milpitas. We were surprised to find a line ahead of us before their 11:30 opening. As soon as I arrived, I added our name to the kiosk outside-gotta love the text updates thanks to Yelp! We only had to wait about 10 minutes before being seated. We asked the host if the 90-minute time limit started after our first batch of appetizers and meats were brought out, but she told us that our time started when we checked in at the front desk. Yikes! That seemed a bit extreme since we had to wait for a waiter to come take our order. As soon as our waiter came over, we placed our order and then hit the buffet area to grab our additional ingredients and sauces. I ordered the Tonkotsu broth and my friend asked for the Spicy Miso broth. We asked to try their gyoza, chicken karaage, & soy glazed karaage chicken appetizers. We ended up sampling all of the premium meat options available at lunch (they have more available at dinner). The super thin layers of pork shoulder, beef toro, prime blade meat, pork belly, & chicken thighs were waiting for us when we returned from the buffet table, so that was nice to see. We didn't need to order more meats because we really filled up on assorted seafood, tofu, and veggies. Oh, I am a big fan of salt, but I found my broth on the salty side. I used it to cook everything, but I wasn't drinking it up for the broth itself. Personally, I prefer AYCE places where the food is brought out to you from the kitchen instead of this type of free-for-all (germs and pushy people). The assortment of ingredients was okay. They didn't have as wide of a variety as other hot pot places but it wasn't like there wasn't enough food. We were both pleased with the fish-I think we each got three helpings of that). I was disappointed with the lack of sauce options though. I was especially surprised not to see a container with salt & pepper. #ProTip: Know what type of broth & meats you want to get started with since the clock starts ticking before you order. #ProTip: Don't be startled as you enter a stall in the restroom--they have a long strip of toilet paper hanging from the top since there is a big gap between the stall & door (surprised me). read more

Still one of my favorite hot pot places! I'm starting to think I like shabu shabu the most, which is the Japanese version, as opposed to Korean or Chinese. The karagi appetizer is the best. The gyoza is so-so; not enough meat. But the self serve food bar is the best of anywhere! Fish, fish cakes, shrimp, mussels, clams, seafood balls, several kinds of noodles, and lots of veggies. The service is really fast! You order the appetizers and cuts of meat, and before you know it, they're sitting on your table. My friends and I are regular customers at Shabuya. We have been coming here for several years, and our experience has always been very good. The staff has always been very friendly.However, during our most recent visit, we had a very concerning conversation with our server. She told us that during our previous visit, her manager had told her that we had made a complaint against her. It was honestly very embarrassing and uncomfortable to hear this from the server directly, especially in front of us .I truly hope HR can take action regarding this manager and address the fact that he is using paying customers to unfairly target or intimidate his employees. Even with the massive holiday line, the manager Claudya and the server Van L (along with the whole crew) provided excellent, fast service, and the food was outstanding, 5* I've been coming to this store weekly since it opened. The new tablet experience is better - it allows your server to be more proactive in checking in on the experience, rather than rushing from gluttonous table to gluttonous table to order 40 more plates of meat. We were checked in on way more than any previous experience. Payment went quicker too because the servers were freed up. Food was fire, as it always is. A few downsides - the tablet was completely covered in grease/oily fingerprints. It was not sanitized prior to us sitting down or cleaned off. When the tablet went into hibernate mode while we ate, that's when it became apparent when the backlight turned off. Here's the best part. We leave, get to the car, and are about to pull out of our parking spot when an employee came running up to my driver's side window. I was concerned for a quick second, until he held out my better half's left prescription glasses she must've left on the table or seat. That was so kind of them to try to get them to us before we left! Manuel was the one who came after us, so THANK YOU MANUEL! He was genuinely compassionate and really saved us some time and frustration. I only live ten minutes away, but it was thoughtful and warm. Matthew is probably a top 10 human being of all time behind my mom, my lovely girlfriend, LeBron James, and Harry Mack. Matthew's customer service was one of the best I have experienced in my 26 years of being a big back. But all jokes aside, he really makes you feel welcomed and not rushed at all. He checks on you frequently, but not too much so you can still enjoy your meal in peace. He always approaches with a smile and always wants to offer assistance whether that's more napkins, more water, a side of rice, etc. CAUTION: If you get Matthew as your server here at Shabuya, you will probably leave a happier and more satisfied person than you were 90 minutes ago. 10/10 would recommend Shabuya, but 1,000/10 would recommend Matthew. read more

They were stocked pretty full each time I went up to get my sides. There's a small selection of seafood, veggies and carbs. You also get 8 options of meats. The interaction with the staff felt distant and unwelcoming throughout our visit. I chose to come here for my 21st birthday because this restaurant used to be one of my favorite places. Eventually, my boyfriend politely asked our server if the restaurant did anything to celebrate birthdays. Without even acknowledging me or making eye contact, the server simply replied, "No, not really," and walked away. What made the moment upsetting wasn't the fact that there was no birthday dessert or celebration. It was how dismissive the interaction felt. Instead of feeling welcomed on what was supposed to be a special day, I felt embarrassed and like we were an inconvenience for asking a simple question. I love Shabuya, it's always well worth the price and hits the hotpot spot. Being able to join the waitlist online is so convenient. I recommend getting half house/sukiyaki broth, then add hella garlic to it. Also love adding lemons from the sauce bar to my sprite or cola. It's been a while since I've been back, but I was very surprised by the improvement in customer service. The hostess was friendly and communicative. David was the best server, he held down two entire sections by himself, taking orders, bussing tables, bringing ppl napkins drinks etc on a busy Saturday night. This meal really cheered me and my brother up since a family pet passed away today. Thank you staff for finding my wallet, and letting me come back after hours to pick it up. 3.5/5 Been to Shabuya a couple times and it's pretty good AYCE option. Sometimes it can get busy but having the waitlist open is super convenient. Last couple times, it was not that busy thankfully so we were seated pretty quickly. Sometimes bigger parties might be a bit uncomfortable due to seating arrangements since they usually have one side booth and one side with chairs. Might be annoying if you're sitting in the middle. Favorite soup base is the Bone Broth or Sukiyaki. Their karage is pretty solid but only when it's fried fresh. For meats, I avoid getting chicken and just ordering the other beef or pork meats over and over again. They put a few pieces of meat per plate which i understand but the plates do take up a lot of space on the table. The buffet bar has a pretty good selection but just be aware if you're allergic to certain foods since there's no separate tongs for every item. Some are shared. There's also no labels for things which isn't a big deal but would be helpful to know. Service is ok. Sometimes they're a bit hard to get a hold of and they're not always checking up to see when you're ready for another round. Overall, decent price for AYCE but I believe there's better out there. read more

The first time I tried Shabuya was during 2021 when COVID was still active. Therefore, the open bar for veggies and sauce was still closed. My experience at that time was also mediocre and I couldn't see the hype about shabu shabu. We recently came back here for a birthday celebration last month and it was amazing. The open bar has reopened since then and the options are just to my needs. There's plenty of vegetables, dumplings, seafood and noodles. The sauce bar is also available! I personally enjoyed the Sukiyaki broth for my choice of dipping broth. We also really missed their soy glazed chicken karaage so of course we ordered some! It was just as delicious.
