The food was good and reasonably priced for lunch. However, I was disappointed to see that some of my favorite items, such as the quail eggs and egg noodles, have been moved to the dinner-only menu. The new iPad ordering system was convenient and made the menu very clear, but unfortunately it seemed to come at the expense of the customer service experience. The interaction with the staff felt distant and unwelcoming throughout our visit. I chose to come here for my 21st birthday because this restaurant used to be one of my favorite places. I wasn't expecting anything special or complimentary, and I was actually hesitant to even mention the occasion because the atmosphere didn't feel particularly warm. Eventually, my boyfriend politely asked our server if the restaurant did anything to celebrate birthdays. Without even acknowledging me or making eye contact, the server simply replied, "No, not really," and walked away. What made the moment upsetting wasn't the fact that there was no birthday dessert or celebration. It was how dismissive the interaction felt. My friends and I are regular customers at Shabuya. We have been coming here for several years, and our experience has always been very good. The staff has always been very friendly.However, during our most recent visit, we had a very concerning conversation with our server. She told us that during our previous visit, her manager had told her that we had made a complaint against her. It was honestly very embarrassing and uncomfortable to hear this from the server directly, especially in front of us .I truly hope HR can take action regarding this manager and address the fact that he is using paying customers to unfairly target or intimidate his employees. Luckily we joined the waitlist when we were 10 mins away and our table was ready as we were looking for parking. The lot is really not that big because some spots are specifically marked for certain stores. I suggest parking in the lot across the street from behind the restaurant. The price is pretty decent for dinner, although a very limited selection of meat. Sauce bar was also lacking in options in my opinion. The pork was better quality than the beef. Some of the beef were tough to chew. I loved how the vegetables were buffet style and it was nicely stocked. One of the hot pots at our table boiled really slowly throughout our meal too. I think Shabuya - Milpitas is good enough to get your hot pot fix for quantity and quality. The options for meats is minimal but for the quality (+ price!) it's good just keeping a few items on rotation throughout your whole meal. When restaurants have too many options, you might not enjoy every selection/cut and end up getting full from that or the ones with a good amount of options with good quality could be not the typical budget friendly lunch/dinner. Broth: Miso/Spicy Miso has been the go to. I think it tastes better than most of the ayce spots and not bland. Appetizer: Gyoza (lightly fried chicken dumplings) these were okay. It's an easy pass. It tastes like it's been sitting out/room temp. Premium meat: all beef options were so good ribeye, flat iron, blade, cross rib, and my absolute favorite toro! ribeye is my second favorite. The other cuts are great too if you want a break from the fatty meats. They also have an island for toppings, veggies, seafood, noodles, sauces etc.. the ayce "rule" is always "don't get too full off carbs" but I get the udon noodles every time, it compliments my meal! Ofcourse with veggies and sauces too! The seafood selection is an option if you don't want to indulge too much meat. Don't expect fresh, it's more like toppings for your HP but it's nice that it's available. Dining in has been smooth each visit and service has a great each time. I'm craving hp now. read more

Shabuya Milpitas has been our go to for hot pot within the Milpitas, CA area. It's consistent, clean, and excellent quality for what you pay for. Staff is attentive and continuously checks on our table. The meats were delicious and tender with a decent variety options of broth. I recommend spicy miso mix with sukiyaki. My dad's friend and his wife are older and handicapped. We requested to move to another table for them to get in and out more easily without difficulty. The owner said "Sit if you can sit. I didn't have such a good experience because everyone in my party had good stoves, but mine was weak. It took about 15 minutes for my broth to boil in order for me to start cooking without anything added into it. We'd also have to request the same thing twice multiple times since some of the servers would forget. Also, I wish Shabuya didn't cheap out on the meat, it was so thin that we'd have to keep ordering and waving down the server, which felt like an inconvenience. Came here on a Friday evening at around 6pm! We managed to beat the rush and were seated immediately. They have you still sign up for the waitlist even if there is no wait. First off, service was great! Our waiter greeted us immediately and our orders came very fast. I really enjoyed the buffet style counter for the rest of the food, ie. veggies, seafood, noodles and sauce! It was very clean as well. We ordered the spicy miso broths and were able to order 2 appetizers, and 6 plates of meat from the get-go. The soy chicken karaage tasted good, although most of the pieces were mostly batter which made them a bit disappointing despite the taste. The gyoza were nice and crispy. For hot pot, I LOVE ponzu sauce. However I noticed the ponzu here leans a bit on the sweet side rather than sour, so I was a little sad about that. Meat slices were large and not too thin, we ordered the blade meat and rib eye mainly. Overall, not my most favorite place but great for the price as it is slightly cheaper than others! Service was a bit slow with the water (alcohol came first), and we had to remind them a couple times, but we ended up getting some extra cups because we asked different people for the water. The veggie options were plentiful. I like that they also have side appetizers to order in addition to the raw ingredients from the center area. I'm personally not a big fan of the options there, but that's just personal preference. Overall, the broth itself was pretty good. It's also cool that they have spicy sauce on the side. This AYCE hot pot restaurant gets 4 stars from me because of its high-quality meat. You're able to pick from a number of broth options (my go-to is miso) and they serve you multiple plates of meat and side dishes at a time. The rice comes free with the AYCE, and you're able to grab veggies/noodles from a buffet-style area from the middle of the restaurant. In my opinion, I've had better rice/sides from other hot pot restaurants, but this is still my go-to because of the meat (the pork shoulder is amazing). We stopped by for a late dinner (around 9pm) on a week day only for the hot pot, and by then many things were either already out or put away from the buffet/sauce areas. There wasn't much left at the time. We didn't mind that too much as long as the meats were all available, which they were. The meats options were pretty decent, but the soup tasted okay. The sauce options were also pretty limited. The seafoods/veggies/sides options were pretty limited as well from what that was left at the time. The drinks were pretty nice though. The service was okay as well, nothing too great because nobody checked on us to see if we needed our soups refilled and such, but it was nothing too bad either. Overall I thought this AYCE hot pot was pretty mid, especially when compared to the AYCE hot pot places in Houston that I'm used to. For what they had available at the time, it was not bad, but it wasn't good enough or special enough for me to come back here next time. read more

Needless to say, I've been a regular for a while but wasn't motivated to write a review until now. Recently this location implemented new POS software and tablet ordering at the table. This didn't affect my visit yesterday much at all - our server Matthew was incredibly attentive and came by to check on us and refill drinks without being prompted. Came here Friday evening for early dinner. There was no wait at the time so we were seated immediately. The waiter explained that we could dine for 1.5 hours and that as a group of 2, we can order 6 meats and 2 appetizers (gyoza and 3 different types of karaage) at a time. There's a salad bar in the middle of the restaurant where you can get the vegetables, noodles and seafood for your hot pot. There's also a sauce bar where you can create your own. The meat and the vegetables were cut thinly so they cooked very fast. However it took a while for the pot to start boiling, but maybe it was because I added my vegetables to the pot too early. Each plate of meat came with four slices and the staff were quick to take away empty plates. Our waiter came by quite often to check if we wanted more meat or appetizers, so we never had to wait long to order more meat. The restaurant has its own parking lot that had many spots, but by the time we left it was quite full. There was a TV with sports on but also pop music playing in the background. It seems the restaurant can accommodate bigger groups as well. For the price, the quality of the food is what you can expect. I wouldn't come out of my way to dine here again, but if I was in the area, it's not a bad choice. read more

Upon entering it's always an older heavy set Hispanic woman and a tiny, short young girl running things. Both are rude as hell. Like RUDE. I have seen the older woman get sassy with customers including myself. The short girl who can barely see over the counter, never smiles, never says hi & barely speaks. She walks customers to their table then walks away. Not saying 1 word. Not, have you been here before? This is the process. So and so will be your server they'll be right with you. How is someone like her in food service? Every time I put our name on the wait list I request a booth. It's just more comfortable for us with the kids. The last 2 times we were not given a booth. But tons of open booths are around. As the short girl showed us our non booth table today, mind you we were the 2nd party seated, I asked if we could sit in a booth which was right next to our table. She said the server for that section was not there. Then rudely walked away. Then I kid you not. Less than 10 mins the short girl seats a family in the same booth I asked to sit in. And the waiter of that section had been there since opening. My husband and I were absolutely dumbfounded. Food is still good nothing seems to have changed. Except they did not have spinach or baby bok choy. Which is crazy to not have vegetables that are so abundant. We have never experienced missing veggies in all our yrs going. All the same familiar waiters are there and they're still all great. That aspect of customer service is still 5 stars. The 2 ladies at the front desk are horrible and we will probably decrease our visits because of them. Thankfully, we added ourselves in the Waitlist at least an hour before our expected arrival - specially since we had a big group of 7 adults and 1 baby. Our server Wilson was excellent and attentive. I am taking 1 star off because of the very strict implementation of the 1.5 hour limit. We were given a warning at 25 minutes, and 5 minutes.
