I had high expectations for The Shack, I reviewed the menu and all of the other yelpers who were here before. I went to The Shack for the first time last weekend and it was very busy on a Sunday morning as to be expected for the breakfast rush. I got the Smores waffle because it looked amazing. The waffles are very large and filling! I had golden grahams cereal and whipped cream topped on the waffle along with chocolate syrup and regular maple syrup! It was sugar overload for me, but extremely yummy. I also ordered a side of eggs which came to me cold as ice! that wasn't great. The service was fair and its to be expected on a busy day. My BF seemed to enjoy the gluten free chocolate chip pancakes which are also large! The prices seemed pretty good for a place in Frontenac area. I might go back and try them again, the omelettes looked good, just would enjoy hot food that's all! read more

Ordered Corned Beef and Hash, food came on a lukewarm caste iron plate, super greasy, there was a puddle of oil on the plate. Told waitress and was told manager will take a look. Waited, no one came. Waitress then said manager told her that some food are cooked like that, so it is normal. I didn't want to make any big deal until the manager didn't care to come over and was told this was normal. I didn't even bother to tell the waitress of the lukewarm plate, because we all worked in the food service industry before. My son was able to eat the remaining of the food without touching the bottom grease because he has a higher metabolism. I guess the restaurant didn't really have to care because it is a busy eatery and business is good. Really, really poor quality food compared to the hype/price. For example, the eggs tasted like they came out of a carton. Similarly, the biscuits came out of a can, and the gravy tasted like it was a dry mix. Also, the chicken breast was odd. It was not a natural chicken breast. Rather, it had been beat with the bone out and tenderized (in short, processed) and then fried in a greasy batter. On the other hand, the coffee was great. We will not be coming back. I really wanted to love this place. I did. However upon arriving at approximately 830 on a Sunday morning, the food and service left a lot to be desired. The wait was lengthy to say the least. The food was just mediocre at best, served Luke warm and the orange juice tasted like it came out of the fountain soda machine. If you are a Germaphobe like myself, the scribble all over the walls and "was here numbers" all over the furniture and walls make you cringe. Good food and service; not super special or unique in terms of menu, but they let you write on the walls/tables to 'tag' that you were there. Food and coffee were tasty and of good quality, service also good (they leave carafes of water and coffee on the table so you don't run out) we will definitely return. read more

I have to say that I absolutely love this place! Places very hip and laid-back but the food is very creative and prepared wonderfully. I like the Whimsical names of the dishes and the service was friendly and prompt. We stopped in here on a Friday morning around 9 a.m. and the place was packed full. Or wait was about 30 minutes and it was well worth it. I had heard good things in place and if you mean stripe for some time and when the opportunity presented itself, we jumped on it. I ordered the country fried steak and eggs and they were prepared wonderfully. Gravy is made in-house and was exceptional. The hash browns were cooked to perfection, not too crispy on the outside and not too soft on the inside. A friend had the bacon wrapped meatloaf with eggs over a bed of hash browns and it was exceptional. I found their play on food to be very forward and creative but still very delicious. Haven't been disappointed with anything I've ordered here. I've had the Breakfast Tacos (steak), Blueberry Pancakes, Biscuits & Gravy (highly recommend) and the Make a Grown Man Cry. I have gone to the shack on Big Bend many times but the service at this particular shack was amazing. We were seated promptly. The server came over brought water and took order. Custom Drinks showed up immediately and the food was served in about 5 minutes. The taste and portions were good and the manger checked on us twice. Stopped in on a Monday morning with my daughter. Basically empty and we were seated right away. The service was wonderful (not sure if that was because of the lack of people there). The menu looks amazing. I got an egg white skillet with turkey sausage and split a hash brown with my daughter. Great central location and nice not have to drive all the way out west to the other locations. The decor is very basic but lends to a very noisy restaurant. Our food ( turkey panini and short rib sliders) were very good but tasted a little heavy handed on the salt content. The corn with peppers side dish was creative but also too spicy for my taste and I like spicy foods. While the coffee tasted great, it was not piping hot due to the use of the coffee air pots. Staff was more than friendly and their enthusiasm made us feel very welcome. Great potential once some minor kinks work out and we look forward to having breakfast. read more

After all the buzz I finally made it to this place. Walked in to a nice crowd so that's a good sign. The hostess was tentative immediately greeting us. Took roughly 15-20min to get seated while being told a 30 min wait. The place was pretty cool with all the graffiti on the walls which makes you perk up and want look around but after the initial 10 minutes the high is over and it all begins to look the same. Our waiter was pretty dope and seemed excited to have us there. He gave us some really good recommendations. The food was just okay, nothing special. Can get a bit over pricey if you not careful. The pancakes was okay, a bit spongy for my taste. The egg white omelet wasn't anything special BUT the cornflake French toast and the captain crunch boozy shake was DOPE!!! I'll come back if a group of people wants to go but will I be like "yo lets hit up the Shack"... Probably not. I bumped up rating by a star for the customer service. read more

Have been meaning to go here for quite while and mad that I waited so long. First the hostess was attentive and friendly. Waitress was prompt and also friendly and answered all the question for first timers. I don't mind breakfast food at any time but my boyfriend wanted lunch. He wasn't impressed with the lunch offerings so he decided to go with breakfast; meg Ryan with substitution for merica French toast. Mind you he is a prickly eater and he absolutely LOVED the food, so much so he was talking about it an hour later. Why 5 stars...hot food, quick service, friendly staff, great atmosphere, nice twist on an oldie but goody(French toast). Definitely work the trip you won't be disappointed. #1 brunch spot in St. Louis. Hands down. The Meaty Mary is my go-to every time. It tops all bloody mary's in STL. The breakfast quesadilla is second to none. I always ask for extra avacado-ranch because that sh!t is delicious!! Biscuits and gravy can never go wrong. Don't expect to order just one pancake if you want to go the sweet route. This was a very cute brunch spot! St. Louis never has enough brunch spots so I'm always glad to see a new one. I went here with friends on a Sunday morning. We got there right at 10 and were seated right away. There was a wait soon after. The restaurant is adorable with graffiti everywhere. The food is very good - lots of meat and egg options. I ordered a mimosa and one of the skillets and both were good. Everyone was friendly and helpful. They do have a limited kids menu so we will certainly try to go back with kids. read more

Came for a late lunch during the week and wasn't sure what I'd order since they are known for breakfast and I didn't want eggs. I was pleasantly surprised by the funky atmosphere and friendly service. The house salad with roasted tomatoes, cheese and crumbled fried zucchini with delicious house smoked salmon was fabulous and will definitely get me back soon. Went to the shack for the first time a few weeks ago. I was with 6 others. This place is awesome! Great food! Every person at our table ordered differently and all were pleased with their food. It did take a little while to come out, but it was worth the wait. I am on the keto diet and they were happy to find out about what certain ingredients were in the food for me. My favorite breakfast spot. This is a great spot for friends and family! There is usually a wait on the weekends but it's worth it and they try to get you moving pretty quickly. I highly recommend any of the skillets and appreciate that they have a "healthier" side menu as well as gluten free!
