Awesome brunch place. My wife and I love to brunch here and the and the "I don't normally eat hash browns, but when I do" is one of our favorite brunch items anywhere. I had the breakfast tacos. The steak taco was a bit on the bland side but I loved the chorizo taco. They do big burritos as well and lots of other good food. I don't love their drinks but they have a decent selection. It's the best "sneak away" spot in Lenexa currently. The "development" in Lenexa will be done in 2034- BUT before that, come here. Great bar. Great ambiance, good food. The best part is the service. People have worked here for a long time and take care of people the right way. But the bar chairs need to go. So when you sit at the cool bar, you will be uncomfortable for a bit but you will get over it. How no one has changed these chairs is a mystery. But I keep coming back. But overall. Although this restaurant is a chain, this is not your typical brunch spot! The drink menu has interesting names from the shack-offs on the adult swim to the drinkable s'more on the cereal killer menu for non-alcoholic fun. As well as the drink menu the entire menu has very fun names! From the junk on the trunk in the skillets, to downstream is too mainstream in the omelettes, to the notorious BnG - which I almost got, but I chose the starchy & cluck so I could taste the fried chicken & waffles. I like how almost all the plates come with hash browns and nothing is priced too high. They teaming with Travis Kelce for everyone who orders the "Make a grown man cry" all proceeds will be donated to his 87 & running charity. I got my eggs with cheese and my hash browns came covered with it as well, next time if the dish doesn't come with it I'll ask for the homemade queso cheese instead. The eggs are super fluffy! The hash browns have the perfect amount of crisp on the top & bottom then the soft center; and my waffle was the same way. The fried chicken didn't really give me breast vibes, more like chicken tenders and was more on the dry side. I would have to say the hot chocolate and the waffle were definitely the star of the show here, but I'm excited to live close by and to be able to come by and try the more things on the menu soon. read more

My favorite breakfast spot in town! I had never been to the Lenexa location before, but I found it to be just as fantastic as the one in Overland Park. They have great service and lots of unique and creative food choices. I love their bloody mary selection, too! Next time I'll know to join the waitlist, because even though they told us it would be a 45 minute wait, it was an hour. This place is very interesting. There are things written and drawn all over the walls. It's kinda cool. Never been here before so thought me and my cousin would try for Brunch. The breakfast tacos were really good. I got the steak ones but feel like it just needed some sauce though. I don't like hot sauce/cholula , they had those at the table, but I think it needed something. Maybe a salsa? But it was still really good and I loved the hash browns too. My drink was really refreshing. It was perfect with my breakfast tacos. I love any kind of mimosa. Definitely want to come here again and try something else. read more

This was my first time at the Lenexa location! It was definitely packed especially on a Saturday morning. I highly recommend joining the waitlist through their website. The food was DELICIOUS. Because they are busy I like that there is an option to be added to a wait list on your phone and once you arrive just check in with staff! Have been a shack customer for years. Unfortunately the last two visits have been less than satisfying in regards to food. Our servers have always been attentive and professional. My wife had a waffle in which the waffle was well cooked on the exterior and doughy inside. I had the country fried steak with a very unsatisfactory gravy that was very thin, enough that you can see the beef fritter. The other dish was a pancake with a poorly made compote and what was suppose to be a lemon curd but was a watery glaze that tasted like it was from concentrate. I dismissed my first bad visit as a fluke because we have had years of exceptional food. After a second visit with poor food, I am saddened that I can no longer consider the Shack as a regular breakfast destination. As a side note: I don't make it a habit of complaining to servers realizing that they have to bare the brunt of complaints and apologize for food quality that they don't have control over (which can affect tips). read more

Took family from the East Coast here for breakfast and they were amazing. Service and speed 5 stars, the portions were filling, menu items comical, service top notch. The reason I am rating 4 is because I am picky with waffles, and want the waffle crispy on the outside soft in the middle. This is one of our favorite breakfast/brunch spots. They have a quirky menu, with a special called a wolfpack, that varies each month. Kids get paper crowns and feel free to write on the walls. We mainly have breakfast when we go. They can sub a majority of their items. They have chicken sausage, grits, sausage links and patties and many healthy options as well as not so healthy for any type of craving. Did I mention the boozie breakfast shakes? My favorite to order are the breakfast tacos. My husband usually gets the Make a Grown Man Cry. Today we took my mother and ordered something different. All of which was tasty as always. My mother had the Do I Still Look Big in these Pants. (She even liked the brussel sprouts) My husband had the Notorious BNG, which is good if you are craving something down home. Was visiting the area and a friend took me to this place on a Sunday for brunch. So many wonderful options to choose from with funny names/categories. It was me and 3 friends... all struggling with making our choice, as so many things sounded good. I went with a skillet... the Everything but the kitchen sink. This was delicious and filling. I ate half and then took half with me, on a plane/flight that evening, and had it for breakfast the next morning. Still delicious! One friend had an omelet, another had a quesadilla, and my other friend had a hash or skillet.. can't remember. We all loved our choices and couldn't finish our plates. We recently had brunch at your Lenexa, KS, location with my family of four, and it was definitely not a good experience. Waited over an hour, which I had no issue with, which is expected on Sunday morning. The issue I had was with the non-friendly service and the overall lack of customer service. The lady working the front acted like she didn't want to be there. After being seated, we ordered our drinks and food. Food came out, and my order was wrong. The issue is that no one stopped by for 7 minutes after the food was delivered. I explained the mistake and told them I was no longer interested in what I ordered since the other 3 were well through their food and would be done by the time mine came out. Was there an apology? No Did a manager stop by? No Did they try to do anything to make it right? No So frustrating! The food is great, but the service is the exact opposite. Also, the restaurant was dirty. There were napkins and paper napkin ring bands all over the floors that all the workers just kept walking over. read more

My husband & I tried Shack because we were nearby and it was new to us. I should've checked the menu and reviews first, but lesson learned. First off, I'm not a fan of the writing-on-the-walls thing. It looks trashy to me. Secondly, the menu is trying too hard to be cute and clever and it really comes off as a millennial trying to one-up their grandma. Rooty Tooty Fresh & Fruity? So 20th century. Try Toot Toot Here Comes Some Fruit. Embarrassing. I could overlook the annoying aesthetic if the food was well executed, but it just wasn't. I had the avocado toast with an over-easy egg on top and it was as boring as you can get. Like no seasoning in the avocado spread. And the salsa fresca was quite literally just diced tomato. My husband's meal was so unremarkable that neither of us can remember what he ordered despite whatever stupid name it had and the fact that it wasn't that long ago. The one plus was that our server and her trainee were good. No problems with the service at all. The Kansas City area is home to many very good local breakfast & lunch restaurants. Seriously, that was the best breakfast I can recall. I drive by this place all of the time, but this was our first visit. At 10:00 on a weekday morning the parking lot was almost full. We didn't have to wait for a table but they were busy. Service was quick and friendly and our breakfast was served up hot and fresh. Mary had their version of huevos rancheros and I had a breakfast burrito (they have cute names for everything on the menu but I don't recall what they were). Both breakfasts were served atop slabs of hash browns which seems to be how they like to do things. I'm not complaining, the hash browns were done perfectly. The Shack is a little spendy, 30 bucks for two breakfasts and one cup of coffee ($3) before tip. The thing is, I think it was well worth it. We'll be back. read more

I love going here for brunch. Been here for my birthday and with some friends. Food is great and love the names of all the dishes! You can't really go wrong with brunch though, but I do appreciate that they let me reserve online and request when I want to come in. This was ok though I do with that the bread had been toasted more. It tasted more like it was just an un- toasted slice of bread. I probably won't get this again. Hash-browns, sausage patties and 2 over easy eggs (choice). The gravy was a very good sausage gravy with actual flavor, fried eggs are fried eggs, crispy hash browns were very good but I didn't love the sausage patties. The place was clean and had a wonderful laid back vibe. I ordered the "Junk in the Trunk" and it was magnificent. Some heat/spice, just right to my liking.
