Before I came here I had heard all about it. I then came, and it really was not good at all. There are many contributing factors to its mediocrity: Price- way to expensive. The quantity of food I got was no where near what I expected for the large sum of money I was asked to pay. Quality- of the little food I did have, it was below average. Crappy cheese on my burger, undercooked bacon and a low quality burger. Variety- not a very expansive menu. Little options. They didn't even have BBQ sauce and they are a burger place. Absolutely ridiculous. The building itself was nice but poor seating for large groups. A generally terrible establishment which is surprising because there is a chipotle just across the street which is the definition of culinary excellence. read more

This place seems to always be slammed, but if you can get there when there's not much of a line your burger will come out much better seasoned and better cooked than when it's slammed. I'm a huge fan of the smoke shack burger simply for the ingenious toppings of hot peppers and bacon... Delicious! Is it was expensive? If you compare it to MC D's then yeah... But you're getting higher quality meal. I'd recommend slow down the eating process and try enjoying your burger. Can you eat it in 4 bites? Yeah... But should you? Probably not. Shake Shack tries to be a trendy gourmet burger place. All they really are is an overpriced place to get a mediocre burger and drink. The dining room was nicely decorated but the seating was hard benches and picnic tables or cafeteria tables and chairs. Not even as comfortable as a McDonalds. Trash cans are nearby and you bus your own table. Menu is on the wall. Order like you would at a fast food place and they hand you a pager. The person who took our order was friendly but never asked us how we wanted our burgers cooked. I had the Smoke Shack cheeseburger it was a very thin square patty which resembled Wendy's but wasn't as thick or juicy. It was cooked medium rare, which is to my liking. Nasty chewy weird tasting pieces of bacon and some mildly hot cherry peppers topped the meat and were covered by a thin bun. I didn't need to open my mouth wide to fit this inside. It was okay but a very small amount of nothing special. My wife had a Shack Burger which is the thin meat patty with lettuce tomato and their sauce. Hers was cooked even less and she prefers medium but this isn't the place to have it your way. She was also unimpressed. The fries were perfectly cooked but they tasted like the frozen supermarket potatoes. The shakes had a nice taste but they also were very small. My shake was quite lumpy. I think it could have been mixed better. I think the food is just okay and extremely overpriced for the portion size. I can eat a burger, fries and a shake here and be comfortably filled but my son would eat twice as much. Had he been with us the bill would have approached $60.00 for a dinner of sandwiches. I do not recommend that you eat at Shake Shack. There are so many better values and better quality to be had. read more

The shake shack has been designed on the inside to intentionally give its consumer the feeling of being inside an old burger shack from down the shore. It was tastefully done and won't actually make you feel like you need a tetanus shot immediately upon departure. Menu is not very expansive with few options but all I have tried are well executed. Burgers, Dogs, Fries, Shakes make up a vast majority of the menu, though there are some other options for those not interested in their standard cookout food. The staff is definitely friendly and has been well educated about what they are selling but the time it takes to actually receive your food can be a bit lengthy. I will attribute this to the extremely high traffic volumes that have been flowing through on a daily basis. Everyone wants to try the shiny new burger joint. I would like to come back but I will maybe wait until some of that shine has worn off a bit for everyone else. read more

The other Shake Shack have amazing long lines but not here at least not yet. First time ever visited a Shake Shack and was able to walk right up the register and order. They have one of the best tasting burgers around. The have cherry peppers as a topping which is rare at any other burger joint. They have crinkle fries and overall the prices are on the pricey side. The famous Shake Shack burger. I don't know why, but you never feel like you're getting the real thing when they become franchise chain restaurants, but this place still hits the spot. A straight forward grease fest of burgers and fries, cold soda to wash it down - when it's what your craving, you can't go wrong. The lines will be long during lunch and dinner rush but it moves, and it's the price we'll pay for food that hasn't been sitting under a lamp. Servers have always been friendly, and BONUS - it's fun to brag to others that you have Shake Shack in town because it usually invokes envy. I've been here twice. Nothing to call home about. it's a burger, fries, and a (very) overpriced milkshake. The meat used for the burgers is OK but there really isn't anything 'special' about the burger that made me decide it was better than cheeburger, 5-guys, or any other burger joint (especially at around $10 per burger). Overall NOT a good deal for your money. Other than that, the long wait I had to deal with was not worth the food I received. A fast food place with a good vegetarian option, sign me up! The shroom burger is amazing. Its fried with cheese in the center so when you bite into it, the cheese oozes out. Fries are a thick crinkle cut. They're not my favorite fries, but they pair well with the burger. The shakes are always delicious with an ever changing list. I ordered the burger with bacon and hot peppers on it, I believe that is the Smokehouse Burger. Not 100% sure what it's called. But it was delicious! I've been wanting to try Shake Shack for years and I was extremely excited when I found out they built one only minutes from my house so I don't have to travel all the way into Manhattan or Philly to try it. It is very similar to Five Guys, I couldn't tell you which I prefer, they're both delicious! But I highly suggest you try this place at least once. I have been to this Shake Shack a few times and have noticed on some occasions that the burgers are not always fully cooked - the center is sometimes a bit pink which is not desirable for ground beef. Some people may like a medium rare burger, but it's a bit risky. Yesterday, I bit into a burger that was bright pink throughout a large portion of the burger. I got up to take it back to the counter when a manager asked if everything was okay. I showed him the burger and he went off to get me another burger. A few minutes later he came back and this burger was also under-cooked, pink in the center. I showed him and he asked if I wanted him to try again. I declined his offer and will not be going back. I like everything about Shake Shack except their inability to consistently present a fully cooked burger. That's not a small issue for a place that mainly sells burgers. read more

Shake Shack is sprouting nationally and internationally like Duane Reade is in New York City and it has remained consistent. Though my favorite spot is probably the one by American Museum of Natural History, I'm so glad, soo glad they planted one half an hour away from where I live. I've always gone for their Shrooms burger because the crunchy portabello brings in this melted cheese inside. Today, I tried their special Shackmeister and bites of their Shack Burger. Meister is good but I don't know what makes this Shack burger so tasty, so delicious, so addicting. It looks so simple! We've tried many burger places including the so-called gourmet ones (Minetta Tavern), Celebrity Burgers and hipster wanna-be ones, even the hybrid burgers (Chori) but Shake Shack is my all time favorite. Sometimes, I wake up dreaming of it. I thank the Burger gods that I can get it now without crossing a bridge or a tunnel, or enduring a ridiculous queue. read more

Looking at it alone, it's a fantastic place to get this sort of food, but being from Bound Brook I have to compare it to 25 Burgers, as unfair as that may be. On taste and price, they're basically equals (with Shack being slightly pricier). But 25 wins not only because they have more varieties, but their portions are bigger. I can appreciate a flavorful small bite, but we're talking about burgers here. I'd like to leave full, but I simply didn't with Shake Shack. Anyway, the food. Had the ShackBurger, fries, black and white shake. The patty was cooked great, medium as advertised. Fries were crispy outside, tender inside, not over or under cooked, and nicely salted. The shake is in a class of its own. I don't think there's a better shake in the area. Shake Shack is a great addition to our community. Some misc. things: S.S. gets my love for being BYO, although I was a tad disappointed to not see beer or wine on the menu. But then I gotta dock some points for not being able to call ahead for your order. Again, overall a great place for American burger fare, but not my go-to for the area. My wife and I are addicted and definitely indoctrinated into the Shake Shack cult. It's actually kind of sad that the best local burger is at a Shake Shack, but it's the god's honest truth. If you like spice, try the Smoke Shack. Definitely my favorite burger there. The shake of the week and Bridgewater Berry Patch (an exclusive to this location) are always on-point too.
