My boyfriend and I have heard so many times from our friends that shake shack tastes super good, so we tried it out! We were already at the mall the restaurant is in, so why not? Burgers were amazing and the fries were delicious. Price-wise, it's not a place we'd go to a lot since it is a little pricy for the portioning (my boyfriend got two burgers and a fry and was still a little hungry) but only because the burgers were so good we wanted more! This place is definitely a must whenever we're in LA and it's close to us, but we wouldn't go out of our way to come here regularly. Pretty quick and efficient. It's nice that it's open on the later side so we were able to come here and grab some food after the shops were closed. I can't really speak for the burgers since I didn't get any burgers. I recall the fries were not really tasty from another location so I didn't pick up any fries. I did get the peanut butter shake and that was d-e-l-i-c-i-o-u-s. So good! Would definitely get it again and would recommend it to anyone that loves peanut butter. For a similar order at In-N-Out, it would've costed me around $16.00! THAT'S ABOUT 50% LESS!!!! Not only the high prices were ridiculous, so were the size of the burgers! The size of Shake Shack burgers must be at least 20% smaller than In-N-Out's! I hate to say this, but even Wendy's burgers are BETTER! My shroom burger SUCKED! The taste was acceptable, but there was only a paper-thin piece of mushroom and some Gouda cheese deep fried in a breaded crust. When I bit into this deep-fried, mushroom-gouda puck, nearly all my gouda squirted out the other end! I'd say that was a buck lost right there! It's clear from a number of reviews that Shake Shack needs to adjust their prices if they hope to survive. As a fast casual hamburger joint, they are competing against the likes of In-N-Out and The Habit but Shake Shack's price point to food value is completely out of whack. We ordered a double burger, a chicken sandwich, one order of fries, and a shake. Grand total: just under $27. Seriously? Okay, how about taste. The burger tasted good. The cheese was nice and melty. But it was basically just meat, cheese and bun, and the bun was a bit too soft to hold up against the meat and cheese. The chicken sandwich was sufficiently spicy (I ordered the Hot Chicken) but there was not enough slaw to balance out the heat. The fries were nothing special, standard issue crinkle fries that did not appear freshly cut. The salted caramel pretzel shake was overly sweet and did not have enough pretzel flavor. We don't really have a quarrel with the food and would have given it another shot. But we are not tempted to return because the food simply does not justify the price. The chicken sandwich was $6.79, which is fair, but the burger was $9. The portion was small, it's not organic, grass fed beef, and there was nothing about the taste that screamed "artisan" at that price. We favor The Habit, and their double charburger with cheese is $5.10. I don't care for In-N-Out but at last check, their double-double hovers around $4. I've heard soooo many things about Shake Shack, but never had the chance to try it for myself. I thought the burger was really good! It's definitely different from in n out (because of the buns and the way its made) and reminds me more of a diner burger? The burger itself is on the smaller side and is more expensive compared to in n out.. I think it's about $5-$6 for a burger but I still thought that it was good. I guess all in all in terms of pricing and size In n Out trumps Shake Shack, but Shake Shack is still good. There's also an app you can download to pre-order if you want to skip the wait! Finally got to try Shake Shack and I wasn't disappointed. People say it's better than In N Out but you really can't compare the 2 places because they're both very different from each other. I consider myself to be a relatively healthy eater, though I do treat myself to some fast food every now and then. In the spur of the moment, my family decided to try Shake Shack shortly after it opened and see if it lived up to the hype...it did not, which is too bad. I really wanted to like this place. The line to order was exceptionally long and slow, and when it was our turn to order, the employees were not friendly and had little knowledge on the menu. Fast food is fast for a reason - it's greasy and unhealthy. However, I found Shake Shack to be significantly more processed than most other places. For instance, their fries are obviously pre-made frozen crinkle cut fries that are retried at the restaurant, and they are near inedible. In regards to the cheese, it is processed American cheese. Many places use American cheese, but these burgers are COVERED in way too much processed cheese. The cheese fries are also just fries covered in processed, artificial cheese sauce. The food is also way overpriced and too small considering the high price-points. And the quality is not worth it: the fried chicken sandwich tasted odd and had a dark spot in it, for instance. Overall, I don't think I'll be back, which is a shame considering the restaurant's popularity. However, you may like this place if you enjoy processed foods, long wait times, and small portions. read more

The food here is very good and they have lots of menu options. Better quality than most fast food places. The line gets pretty long but definitely worth the wait. And the food comes out fairly quickly. There are lots of spots to sit inside and outside and the remotes they give you that buzz when your food is ready have a long distance range. They also have gluten free buns that taste just like the regular buns. They even make sure to ask if it's an allergy or a preference so that if it's an allergy they can keep the buns away from the gluten buns (for gluten contamination purposes). Overall great place. The prices aren't that bad but starts getting pricier the more people you have eating in your party. But the quality is good so you're getting what you pay for. read more

They get all the stars because they have this thing called a Poochini! This was the first time that I've seen a Shake Shack have a menu for dogs. Our corgi Oslo ended up with one of these in front of his paws. Oslo states," Hi guys! My name is Oslo! My humans got me a poochini! It was cold, creamy, and good, it tasted like my favorite peanut butter with doggy treats. I got a brain freeze, my humans laughed when it happened. But it was so good!!! I had to keep eating it. I finished it, and it was so good. Then stranger humans came when I finished and took a picture with me, I can't get a break in L.A., everyone loves me, and I love them!" What Oslo is talking about is the Poochini, which is a peanut butter custard with a couple of dog biscuits. It was so funny and adorable when he got a brain freeze from eating it so fast. He just stopped eating it after he was attacking it, we all knew what happened. I recently stopped my vegetarian diet and decided to get the Shack burger, and I wasn't disappointed. The bun is so perfect for containing everything and it is so soft and moist. Sorry In-n-Out you aint got this bun, which is a revolutionary transport vessel. I can't stress this enough, this is a lost art in the burger world where people stopped thinking about the logistics of the burger going from my hands to my mouth without it falling apart into different ingredients. Shake Shack has got it down. I'm glad the west coast has Shake Shack, and it is not going anywhere. It was my first time at Shake Shack in 5 years when I had it in NYC and the verdict is still the same - It's good, but it's no In-N-Out. For a meal for two, you can easily spend $30+ whereas at In-N-Out, it's ~ $15. I don't even know if I could say it's right to compare the two because the styles are different (so is the menu i.e. Shake Shack has hot dogs which I really wonder how that tastes), the price points are different, and the tastes are different. The burger is really good, but it doesn't meet the price point or the high expectations. Depending on the line, and the available seating, you are better off going to in n out. I want to make sure that I'm fair here when I say that the burgers are actually really good, I've tried a few and they were all good. I've also had the cheese fries, the hot dog and a few of their shakes. Out of all of the items the hot dog is my favorite and the best value. I'm typically always skeptical about going to a new place that has as much hype and wait time ask this place did. It's hard to meet that high of an expectation when you serve fare like burgers, or things like pizza, doughnuts or cookies for that matter: because they are all typically good. Why would I wait in line for 30 minutes then awkwardly hover over a couple that looks like they are about to leave so that we can have their seat, and pay almost double an equivalent when you can just go to a place like in n out and order in 10 or so minutes (if you go inside), and pay a lot less. The first time I had SS was in Las Vegas and at the time the food, service, milk shakes where awesome, it was definitely worth the 30 minute wait to be seated. So when I saw SS at the Westfield Century City my stomach was definitely excited. When we entered the establishment I thought it would be table service. I was disappointed to see it wasn't and was confused by the menu since I recall it being completely different then the Las Vegas location. Everything is ordered separately so there are no combo 1 , 2 etc. By the time I had to order I still didn't know what to get and ended up ordering their version of a basic burger and fries. We where given a buzzer to return to retrieve our orders. Unfortunately they have limited seating indoors so we had to sit in the communal area of the food court area. It had been close to 20 minutes and our order wasn't ready, at first I thought maybe we are too far out of range, so we decided to go in and check and of course the buzzer started to go off. I wasn't thrilled with the burger I ordered , however the fries where really good. I don't venture out too often to century city unless it's too see a movie at the AMC . I find it VERY interesting that shake shacks in NYC consistently get 4* reviews on Yelp while LA shake shacks get 3-3.5*s, which I think speaks to the ability of your local food environment/context to shape how you experience new food. I lived on the east coast for 5 years, and went to Shake Shack consistently in new haven, as well as NYC. The food I can assure you is the same, and it's GOOD. This is coming from someone who loves In N Out dearly. Without in n out ready to hand on the east coast, shake shack fulfilled my high quality fast food burger cravings. The beef is high quality, the crust/sear on the patty is delightful, the fattyness and juicyness is extremely satisfying. if you can't taste the difference between this patty and other fast food pattys, or even most RESTAURANT pattys, i seriously question your palate. Couple the patty with a soft, sweet buttery bun and fresh vegetables and a tangy sauce, and you have a VERY good burger. The fries are decent and crinkle cut to maximize crunchy surface area (but I'm weird, I'm part of the minority that actually really enjoys in n out fries), and the custard is beyond creamy with usually very complimentary add ins. i still miss the new haven custard with blueberries swirled in and lemon sponge cake (one of the few things i do miss about new haven). Add alcohol and dog friendliness, and you can understand how this place took NYC by storm. Then why the lukewarm reviews in LA? I think it largely has to do with the existing LA food culture. (1) We Californians can be fanatically loyal to in n out. However, I firmly believe deliciousness is not mutually exclusive: these burgers, although different, are BOTH very good. (2) Los Angelinos like their food cheap. My meal, which included a shack burger, fries, and custard, came out to about $15. This is about double what I pay for a meal at in n out. In NYC, you expect to pay this much for food, but in the land of taco trucks and dirt cheap Asian food, we are used to high quality at a low cost, and the math for Shake Shack does not work it it's favor. I do not think we should let our Angelinian biases affect our tastes, although this is admittedly difficult if not impossible. I've been craving just a great sold burger lately having been on a work out craze. I haven't treated myself to a good burger in while, so today was the day. Lol. One recently opened in Century City so I made my way to give it a try. Burgers and shakes are their specialty using just simple great quality. Their menu features not only burgers but many other items as well. Chicken sandwiches, gourmet hotdogs , which by the way, yes I'm a hot dog junkie. Especially " Pinks " that's a whole another story. For starters, it has cheese in the center and when you bite into it, the cheese shoots out like a practical joke! I'm talking cheese everywhere. I wish I could have taken a picture, but I had snuck the burger into the movie theatre, so it was dark. I got the bacon burger single with cheese, pickles, added onions, lettuce wrap and fries and a diet coke. Ordered thru DoorDash. Are you kidding me?? Where's the beef? That burger is smaller than one from In out Out tho I still love them. No cheese at all. Additions of pickle & onions, ok one little pickle slice, bacon bits not strips,a couple of pieces of onions, incredible amount of lettuce (I didn't order a salad), and another addition: FOUR hairs!! I thought at first How did my hair get in there? Kept eating while searching for the meat and three more hairs came up as I continued. That's disGUSTing!! Looked at the pictures on their website, boy, meat a-g-go, spilling off the buns. Nope. The French fries were just so-so. The diet Coke was very small and not worth $2.79. Awesome place and great food. The service was really fast considering half of the mall patrons were eating here. The burgers are amazing and come in a bun that is a pocket instead of your traditional two-part bun. The beef is fresh and a bit on the greasy side but hey, it's a burger so don't complain if you're on a diet. The lack of one star is that there are dozens of people working here and they do a great job however.... They needed to design the order and pick up area with more thought. First, you can't get your own drink refill and you have to go back to the counter and fight your way in with the people who are still waiting to pick up their food. The other problem is that the pagers they give you buzz way too early and you end up at the counter with the rest o the people who are waiting for food and drink refills. This causes major congestion at the front counter and there is not enough room for everyone to get through their order. Other than that, it's great. I'd recommend putting the drinks out so people can fill their own cups and get their own refills without burdening the employees. That way they can focus on getting the food out faster. I'd also recommend not paging customers until their food is on the counter and ready to be carried off. That's all, not too much to ask for but nothing that's impossible to do. read more

I had Shake Shack once in New York and I immediately fell in love. I'm so happy they brought it here! I had the mushroom burger and it was perfectly battered and fried but still nice and juicy when you bite into it. The fluffy toasted bun brings the whole burger together and adds a nice tinge if sweetness to the flavors. The strawberry shake was also phenomenal. Love it! read more

It's become something of a ritual to visit this Shake Shack as I'm about to fly back home after a fun weekend in LA. This location is convenient as it's on my way to LAX from Beverly Hills/WeHo where I usually stay. Shake Shack reminds me of other chains that have a sharp focus on uncommon quality and genuine customer service -- Chick-Fil-A, Culvers, Five Guys -- and that's a very good thing when so many other chains get one or both wrong. I am always greeted with a warm smile and my order is taken patiently even though this location is always packed. For me though, the real story is always this damn good food. On this recent visit I ordered the bacon burger with cherry peppers and queso, queso bacon fries, and then a blueberry cheesecake concrete (yes, all very decadent). The burger was melt in your mouth messy and was great paired with the concrete. The fries were hot and done right. I love how Shake Shack's condiments and toppings are flavorful and work so well together. Wrapping up, the wait can be anywhere between 5-15 minutes but it's nice knowing the food is made to order. The facility is well kept and easy to navigate. It's always a pleasure to visit a Shack as they're hard to find outside of very major metropolitan areas so please come to Salt Lake or Kansas City! read more

I LOVE LOVEEEEEE SHAKE SHACK. It's simple, classic, not too much grease and not too much sauce. In my opinion, Shake shack is different than In n Out. It's more expensive but I prefer Shake shack over In N Out. The fries are always perfect and fresh. The portion size is perfect. I tried the mango lemonade too and it was just okay, not anything special. I don't think i'll get it again. There are a lot of parking because it's located inside the mall (next to Bloomingdales). Extremely slow service, and even that is low quality. Two hotdogs and one of them was completely burnt. We ordered 2 hotdogs with one coke. They didn't even give us the coke until after 10 min the my husband went and asked for it. We waited another 30 min until my husband went and asked about what happened to our hotdogs. The line finished, most people got their food but I have no idea how we got ignored. After he was back, he was carrying the hotdogs. Quick investigation, noooo! So Im thinking Century C mall is under construction so noone will be there, well I was wrong. Guess everyone was thinking the same. Its located outside of the food mall by the other restaurants upstairs. Has indoor & outdoor seating. Its small, 1/2 the size of the WEHO location. You can also order through the app for pickup but since this location is busy the pickup is 2+hrs at times. I was going to dine in but too busy so got to go. Took about 35-45 from line to order to food was ready. I love shake shack. Its not crap quality & super greasy say like carls jr & the rest of the fast food crew. Its more of high end fast food & worth the price of around $6 for single & $10 for double. The burgers are small, single is about size of In & Out but you have alot more options then in & out. The bread is so soft & delicious. I love the smokeshack. Its simple has cherry pepper which gives it a great flavor. The fries are crinkle cut & are amazing. So, first time I ever had shake shack was at their NYC location and I fell in love with the food. Thought It was the best burger, fries and shake I ever tried. So now that they brought them to LA, I was beyond excited. My boyfriend and I went before our movie and we're both really looking forward to our meal. When we received our food, we were instantly disappointed. Our shake was filled little lower than 3/4 of the way. the fries were ok, and the burger was mediocre. The bun was soggy and greasy and the relish was something else.... Even though it seemed it was rush hour, that's not an excuse to lower your customer service and quality.
