Placed a mobile order at 8:40pm for a 9:15pm pick up..... had a very nice male employee try to check on my order three separate times and TRIED to find the manager for help.... needless to say we did not receive our food until 9:45pm. Beyond disappointed in the service. It was truly appalling to see the number of angry customers at the counter waiting for their food or to have their order corrected, only to be talked down to by employees. When they first opened the line was over a block long past Big Bowl. I stopped and asked a few people what was going on and everyone was raving about how it's the best burger you can get your hands on. When the excitement died down, I tried it.... It's a burger. Au Cheval... That's not a burger, it's a work of art (or something, idk), but Shake Shack is just an average burger (it's actually quite small too). It didn't live up to the hype for me... I gave four stars because no one can argue it's not good food. And it's worth trying if you are in the area. But fair warning: you may be disappointed. I got a smoke shack burger, the shake of the week, and cheese fries. Overall, a tab of 20 dollars. That was only the start of my problems. First, seating. It was so crowded that it took several minutes to wait for someone to leave so I could take the vacant spot. When it was time to pick up my order, I was worried I would lose my spot! When I finally got my food (which felt like forever because I was so excited to try my first shake shack burger), I was surprised. The burger was tiny. The shake was not blended enough, and it was like a column of slush in the middle of the cup, with a little bit of liquid on the side. It didn't feel like a drink, but more like shredded ice. So I decided to wait for the shake to melt a little while I tried the fries. Man, they were good! I finished about half of them, and then started the burger. It was a mistake, because the fries become too soft and the cheese losses it's melted godliness. The burger was great as well, but I don't feel like it was out of this world. Although it had a bunch of "special ingredients", in the end it was just a burger. I want to find words to describe how unique it was, but I can't think of any... Perhaps because it wasn't actually that special? The shake was disappointing, to say the least. At five bucks, it felt almost as sweet as raw sugar. I ended up throwing out some of it and pouring myself some water instead: my throat was dryer than a desert. But I decided to give four stars because I probably will be back for more cheese fries, and maybe a burger. Make no mistake, it's good food. Just make sure to not get caught in the hype! read more

i have a feeling people only go here for the gimmick. at $7+ a burger and $2.99 for fries, my boyfriend and i figured it would be big enough to share. we ordered the SmokeShack burger. what we received was a pipsqueak burger the size of a Devil Dawgs slider and a tiny cup of what looked like school lunch tier fries. the 3 bites i got WERE good, but for $17? we got a strawberry shake. with all the hype you think it would at least have some fresh strawberries in it. instead we got something that looked and tasted like it was from Wendy's, for $5.99. whip cream is an extra $0.50 too. at least Wendy's gives you that for free. i honestly would not recommend this place to anyone. too much money for the mediocre product. two stars because the service was fine. read more

I've been waiting for shake shack to open cuz people keep saying it's better than In&out...Hence, I have to try it. The followings are what I got: Double ShackBurger Fries Custard I have to say, the burger is amazingly good. The fries is nicely seasoned and crunchy. To compare it to In&out, I'd say the major difference is the lettuce. While lettuce at In&out is crunchy, the shackburger isn't. So depending on how you like your burger, either side can win. The pattie at both places are seasoned and cooked perfectly though. So my verdict is, burger = ties, fries = shake shack. read more

I finally went to Shake Shack about a month ago, and it was quite tasty. I can see what the hype is about. Those fries! I don't know what they put on those fries, but they are absolutely delicious. I think that they have a light seasoning on them. The burgers are a little on the small side, but I like smaller burgers so that I don't feel like a complete pig after eating. The ice cream is good as well. I tried the vanilla and the chocolate, and actually preferred the vanilla. I would definitely go back if I'm craving a burger. read more

I also really like that they have menu items utilizing local Chicago ingredients, like the sausage from Publican (I order this every time) or the aura of Bang Bang Pie Shop in the shakes (which I've avoided because I'm diabetic and make good life choices). Went here during a mini vacation and had a friend recommend it to me. Even with a packed restaurant everything about the experience was excellent...the staff was incredibly helpful, and I even shared a few quick laughs with the cashier in the midst. The wait time was very impressive considering how busy the restaurant was during the dinner and Chicago busy time. The burger was AMAZING, I'm very simple when it comes to burgers (cheese only) and the temperature was perfect as was the bun. And their CHEESE FRIES!!! Delicious!! Realistically, the menu items are all overpriced for the portions you get. That being said, the burgers are delicious! It was very small though, so I was disappointed that after a few bites, my burger was gone even though I paid $6 for it. It is very plain with the bare minimum cheese, sauce, tomatoes, and lettuce. I've eaten at nicer burger joints and for the same price, the portion should definitely be bigger. They're the exact size as the In n Out burgers but not as good and twice the price! The fries are not very appealing. Also, Shake Shack charges $1.00 for cheese and it's not even a lot of cheese! So now it's $3.90 instead of $2.90 for a small side of fries, but they're still pretty bad and flavorless. There's nothing that makes them stand out and I may very well have bought fries from McDonald's or Burger King. I grabbed a fry from a friend and didn't think the taste is worth the cost. They come with a cute little fork stick that you can use to pick them up with. I also bought dessert - the weirdly spelled Salted Carame'L (why?!) concrete. It was super sweet! I enjoyed it a lot, but the portion was once again, disappointingly tiny for the $5 I paid. The custard reminds me of the custard from Culver's, and I received few mix-ins. The poorly blended concoction contained bits of banana and what appeared to be HALF a donut. Really? Seating is AWFUL, and if you can, I'd get the food to go because there's not many open seats, nor does there appear to be any system of organizing diners. Get ready to ask strangers from numerous nearby tables to spare a chair. Try to get a real table and not the colorful wooden chairs because they're really uncomfortable because the back is at far angle and hard. There also doesn't appear to be any employees cleaning up after diners leave because the first table I grabbed still had wrappers and sauces smeared around. After another party came by and stole it (yes, stole, they simply all sat down despite my protests), I sat at another table after patiently watching a chatty duo of teens talk on despite having already finished their food AND having 2 unused chairs. When they decided to leave, I had already left to grab my food as the vibrator they give you was going off. I returned to find ketchup on the seat/table and had to wipe down the furniture. Besides that the entire restaurant is LOUD - kids screaming and running around, conversations going on, blaring TVs, and yelling from the kitchen - it's hard to even hear the cashiers and give them your order. Overall, I paid over $10 for a burger with ice cream. It reminds me of an overpriced Culver's with a tourist-trap vibe. I left still sort of hungry, but my wallet was empty. Finally got to going here last night. After all the hype it had when it first opened, I'm just not feeling it. Menu offers only 4 different varieties of meat (non vegan) burgers. Place wasn't that crowded but it took about 15 mins for our food. Seems a bit long for a place like this that has about 20 people working in the food prep area....burgers were just ok. Didn't blow us away. Make sure you order a double- meat is kinda thin. Also had a concrete and it was pretty small for the price plus it was missing a couple of the ingredients listed on its description. Prob not returning. I can get faster service at Portillos and better tasting food for a better price. And I'm sorry but NOTHING beats In & Out Burger! Good luck ever topping them, and their prices. read more

I thought the shake had an odd taste and was very different than your typical choco shake (some may view this as a good thing but i think it was a little too far from what you'd expect in a place that is trying to capitalize on the "classic" burger joint). The best part was the buttered grilled bun. A good lunch, but not work the money, the fuss or the hype. I am a connoisseur of thick milkshakes. I won't drink them any other way. I requested very nicely for my milkshake be made "extra thick" at the counter, but the cashier just nodded and said okay. Didn't press any extra buttons or make a note of it, so I knew from that moment my quest for extra thick milkshakey goodness would not be successful... I was definitely right. When I got my milkshake it was very thin, and because it was so crowded, I didn't really feel comfortable asking again so I just handed it off to my husband to drink. I don't feel like this is was a strange or difficult request for a place with shake in its name. I was also not too impressed with both sinks in the women's bathroom being taken up with homeless people filling their water jugs as I had to wait to wash my hands. I won't be back. read more

My boyfriend really likes this place so we come here at least once every 3-4 weeks. Their food is generally consistent in quality. I usually get the shackmeister burger and he gets a shack burger and hot dog. The last time we went I thought my burger looked kind of sloppy falling apart but still manageable. I had their Publican Pork Sausage one time and it wasn't that good. It was incredibly hard to eat and not their best option on the menu. However, their Chicken Shack burger is incredible. It is definitely my new favorite, I prefer it over their beef options. Overall, great place! read more

AMAZING SERVICE AND FOOD!!!!! I went to shake shack for the first time and I had an amazing experience my cashier name was Shawnee. I explained to her that my daughter has a severe nut allergy and she took her time and checked and let see me for myself what we was ordering did not have nuts of any kind. My daughter wanted to try a shake and she recommended that we did not get a shake because of possible cross contact with nuts because of the peanut butter. she was just so amazing and kind. The dinning room attendant Hassan he was so awesome he kept the dinning room clean but he also made sure to take time to check on the guest. The food was amazing and we had an great experience we will be back soon. read more
