Not my go to place for Cajun food but it's an okay restaurant. I came here for my birthday and the employees were really friendly. My group ordered the combo set of shrimp + mussels, blue crab, and also fries. Honestly, there wasn't much flavor. We ordered the pineapple express drink. It came out very aesthetic. Rose gold everything. Very instagram worthy. The drink was good but my group was wondering why there wasn't any prices listed on the drink menu. The shareable drink turned out to cost $40. Apparently my boyfriend stopped by earlier in the day to drop off my birthday cake which the employees were nice enough to let him do so. At the end of the dinner, he went to the back to ask the employees to bring out the cake. 15 minutes later, they still didn't bring out the cake. Again, my boyfriend went to go check in and instead brought it out by himself. It was kind of disappointing and fustrating considering most restaurants would bring out the cake for you when it's your birthday. Im a regular and I like the food, but upper management is absolutely horrible. The workers are extremely stressed out. They are underpaid. When I was there today, Flo is the only person working. He was always a great server and he did his best to accommodate everyone. However, being the only person doing every single job possible, he looked extremely stressed. I watched him ran up and down the stairs running to help people, keeping customers from waiting for too long. In the meantime, Flo, working so hard, is very underpaid. This is just today. It happens the majority of the time when I visit the restaurant. I cannot believe the hard work Flo put in today nor the stress this restaurant puts him through. We ordered the snow crab and shrimp combo, lobster roll, and garlic noddle. None of them are impressive. The lobster roll is way too salty. The Shakin' sauce in the combo was just oily and salty and the shrimp is not fresh. The garlic noodle was just so-so. I don't think I'll come again. read more

This restaurant is close to my hotel, the Revere. I have been eating here each night of my trip. If you are looking for delicious seafood, this is the place. The staff have smiles and want you to have a great experience. The clam chowder has pepper, bacon, and lots of clams. The lobster roll is not small. It comprises a buttered roll that is loaded with lobster salad and is very flavorful. The lobster roll does not just come with potato chips but with either plain or Cajun fries. I saw many patrons enjoying Cajun crab and shrimp. They were singing to the overhead classic tunes. Great staff and service. Go already, you will be happy. read more

This was such a fun experience! We had a reservation and though we were 15 minutes late, they still sat us after just a few minutes. The server, Jern, was super friendly and kept our drinks filled and checked on us frequently! We found out there was a promotion via Clover and though it was limited to one per table the promotion didn't state that so they honored it and gave us the two we planned to redeem! Mable and Jern did their best to get that figured out and they were so customer focused. They could have easily just told us no and moved on. On top of the awesome customer service, the food was AMAZING! We had two boils, both crawfish with the shake it up (adds 1/2 lb shrimp) and boy did it come to us quickly and HOT! The Shaking Crab is a casual and interesting spot to grab a bite to eat. I had been staying into The Boston Common for a few days, and I didn't have any plans for dinner. I walked around a bit until I came upon the "Shaking Crab." It wasn't very busy, so I decided to give it a try. When I first walked in a noticed a cramped bar by the window, and another in the back. There were stairs which I'm assuming led up to a second level. The decor seemed bland, but still gave me a homey feel. I was seated immediately. At first glance the prices seemed fair. Me and my father ordered waters, and went ahead and began our orders. I ordered the Lobster Roll, and my dad ordered a Lobster Tail. The food came out fast. The Lobster Tail came out in a plastic bag where the waiter shook the bag until the contents were mixed up. (Hence the name, haha). I immediately dug into my meal. It came with Fries, and Coleslaw! The coleslaw was on the drier side, and had hints of lime. Very interesting! The fries were your normal fries. My lobster roll was on a soft, and buttery roll. The roll was delicious. I'm not a big fan of fish, so of course I wasn't too pleased with it. I'm always open to trying new things. The lobster tail was a relatively small portion, and my father finished it in minutes. He ended up ordering some Clam Chowder to top it off. The clam chowder was... interesting to say the least. It wasn't the classic Boston Chowder you would normally get. It was very hearty, and had plenty of meat, some of which didn't seem to be clam. It still had great flavor though. In the end, this place is a casual restaurant for you or your family to have a meal here in the Boston Common. Although I may not be too interested in coming back, I know plenty of other people are! Waitress took our order, came back to place the food and was never seen again. She did not ask if the food was okay or if we needed refills for our drink. However, she could be seen playfully hitting her co workers and messing around in front of customers. The mild shaking sauce was very bland and I had the tiniest mussels ever. As a huge seafood boil fan, this was by far the least appealing seafood boil restaurant I've ever been to. I ordered a combo of "easy peal" shrimp, snow crab legs and clams with potatoes, corn and broccoli. The crab legs and clams were okay but my biggest problem with the restaurant is the flavor...the SAUCE. Do not bother ordering the spiciest sauce if you're looking for spicy flavor. I ordered there cajun sauce with the spiciest spice level and it literally had no taste. There was garlic on the bottom of the bag and that probably the only thing that kept me sitting at that table. Since I was so unsatisfied with the tasteless cajun sauce, I ordered a side of their butter garlic sauce with the spiciest spice level. AGAIN, TASTELESS. It taste like straight butter...no seasoning. We tried this place and it was ok. As some other reviews stated the shrimp was actually very bland even though surrounded in spices. The meat of the shrimp had no flavor. Not sure why they wouldn't just cook the shrimp in the bag with all those great flavors. It is definitely pre boiled in saltless water. The crab legs were good probably because they were able to absorb the sauces. The mussels were ok. The fried corn was gross. Overall it was ok. Definitely not as good as the hot n juicy in Vegas. There's a reason they give you bibs and gloves - use them! Shaking Crab is a wicked messy experience, but worth the effort. I'll spare you the plastic bag details because you can see that in the photos. We started with an order of their excellent Cajun fries and had shrimp boils for dinner. The shrimp were huge, tender, and you get A LOT of them. The house Cajun seasoning is very close to what you'd get down south. Unfortunately, the liquid in the bottom of the bag is quite oily. My only other complaint was that the young wait staff (local college students) needed to speak up a bit when taking orders and ask first when clearing items off the table. Overall, I wish I could give this place an extra half star for the atmosphere and the nice view of the Common. Oh, one more thing - make sure you eat a few Tums after. I didn't and I could taste the meal for a solid 6 hours after. read more

Since this was new to us we tried a lot of options. My husband loved the chowder and lobster tail, whereas I went with the shrimp & mussels. All were amazing! The Seoul sauce was so good - messy but amazing! For sides we enjoyed the Mac & cheese and to try to be healthy ordered the greens and coleslaw. Coleslaw was fresh, thick cut cabbage with just the right amount of dressing, not soppy. Collard greens were also super fresh and perfectly cooked, not mushy. We were full but not feeling gross after dinner. All is fairly messy so don't expect a formal affair, expect great food & fun! read more

Had dinner tonight at Shaking Crab for the first time. I was totally unprepared for how the food is served. Rather unique in plastic bags. No forks, knives or spoons.. Just use your hands. A the end of the meal, more is needed to clean your hands and be sure not to wear a good shirt or sweater. But, they provide a plastic bibs. We had soft shell crabs, blue crab and snow crab legs.
