Fried fish basket Shrimp and grilled short ribs came out within 5-10 minutes. The rest came out 10-20 minutes after but we were already chowing down so it wasn't a problem. Surprisingly the short ribs were really tasty and perfectly cooked. The sauce for the shrimp is not like boiling crabs whole sha-bang, but it is definitely better than most of the other cajun/creole places like it. My other half enjoyed the garlic noodles and thought it was pretty tasty. The fried fish basket was OK, or maybe it was because we were so full from all of the other items to really get a good taste. The wait staff was very attentive despite it being a Friday night. We were the 2nd couple to come in but by the time we left the place was packed. We were not ignored or treated differently from bigger parties which was nice. From other reviews, either others standards were way too high, we came on a good night, or a combination of the two plus something else. So, say you want some crab, some shrimp, and some clams, YOU DON'T HAVE TO ORDER A WHOLE POUND OF EACH. You can just try their combos! They even come with corn and sausages! It was mind blowing. So, ordered a combo for our table and few extra pounds of shrimp, because let's face it...I'm filipino and filipinos love shrimp. That's just life. So we ordered one of the combos with "all of the above sauce" mild from the friendly waitresses and played with our phones until the food came. Then a friendly food runner came and delivered our food to our table. She even offered us some gloves because she noticed I had a cut on my finger and probably wouldn't want to touch the spicy sauces with a cut. How thoughtful of her! Now, that's service ;] I ended up getting one glove and digging in like a ravenous Miley Cyrus looking for attention. THE FOOD WAS DELICIOUS! The Cajun fries were a thicker cut than what I'm used to. The seasoning was also a tad bit on the sweet side. I liked that they gave you ranch and ketchup. Their fries pair well with the ranch. My shrimp was extra garlicky. The sauce is thick but very greasy. The flavor is on the mild side so if you're into spicy food order the spiciest level. I will forever be on a hunt to find a restaurant in San Francisco that is most comparable to Boiling Crab. This little place opened up right by the place I used to live. When I saw that it was a cajun seafood joint, I was pretty stoked. And being a foodie, of course I had to give it a shot. We ordered two pounds of shrimp, a pound of crawfish, and a side of sweet potato fries. The seasoning was okay. Definitely better than some other places I've tried. I'd come back if I was craving cajun seafood because it is better than most restaurants I have tried in SF. Update: 2 stars instead of 1 just because the cajun fries and the shrimp actually tasted good this time. I felt bad for our server because there was 1 of him and 15 of us customers he had to serve. They need a minimum of 2 servers at least for better service. The server was in the back, serving us, answering phone calls. New customers had to wait like 10 minutes to be seated. I'm not blaming it on our server though because he did what he could for being alone and his service was great. He checks up on you and he interacts with you. This is my go to place if I'm ever craving cajun food. I usually get 1 lb of shrimp with the atomic sauce (their version of the whole shabang from boiling crab). It comes with plenty of sauce and lots of garlic. Their cajun fries are good too. The one thing that keeps me coming back to this place is the amount of garlic that comes in the sauce - it's so much and sooo good! Pretty solid food, no complaints. Will definitely come back over and over again and will never drive down to San Jose for Boiling Crab, especially since now their food comes with no sauce and they charge about $2.00 if you want more sauce! read more

The atomic flavor shrimp was good and the medium spice level was a good kick. The shrimp was well cooked as oppose to the soggy mess I've had at previous times. I think they got the flavor of the shrimp to a delicious level. I love garlic and there is plenty of finely chopped garlic in their sauce. We also had the raw oysters. I'm not really good at judging raw oysters, but they didn't taste bad. I enjoyed the flavor. The garlic noodle was the low point of the meal. There was a complete lack of an actual garlic flavor. It tasted more like spaghetti noodles with olive oil and lots of parmesan cheese. Definitely need more work on improving the noodles. read more

For one, the ambience is too dark in the middle isle. Social media is a good platform for marketing, use that. Two, I don't like you can't buy half of a pound, only 1 pound but you can purchase 1.5 pounds worth. Three, the servers had no manners. Very terse. This way I can absorb all the flavor and taste every spice of the sauce. Who am I kidding, I'm just super lazy to peel the shell off and I like the crunching sound the shell makes. The raw oysters were good too but they're raw oysters, they taste the same anywhere. They look like giant boogers to me but whatever. The calamari was excellent. Probably one of the best calamari I've had. The clams were good too. The things that were not so great were the garlic noodles and the king crab legs. First off, how the hell do you eat the crab legs. They have like spikes and stuff all over them. It was way too much trouble and pain just to get a little piece of meat out and they didn't have much flavor to them. The garlic noodles didn't really taste like anything except salty noodles. Here's a hint. Just set your phone aside or put it in silent mode. You know like right before you watch a move in the theaters, you turn your phone off or put it in silent? Yeah do that. There is no way you're going to be touching anything but your drink, food and paper towels with your dirty ass sauce soaked hands. Just do yourself a favor and just don't reach for the phone. Let me start off by saying I really like Westlake Plaza! There are so many options to choose from whether you're looking for restaurants, clothes stores, or grocery stores. It really has such a nice, calming atmosphere. Anywho, my boyfriend and I were greeted by a friendly host and got seated right away! We got to the restaurant at around 7 and there was absolutely no wait. Considering it was a Friday night and there was no wait, I'm assuming that you'll never have to worry about having to wait. I got a pound of shrimp with all of the above sauce and a little spice. Their sauce was a little too chunky for me, which made the shrimp less flavorful. The chunks were from the garlic, so whenever I ate a shrimp I ate a lot of garlic with it. Next time I'd get more spice because their spicy isn't even that spicy and I feel like it would add more flavor. We also got sweet potato fries, which I really liked. They were more soft than crispy and were on the thicker side, so you tasted a lot of sweet potato. I actually really liked the sweet potato fries with my shrimp sauce. I dipped it in everytime and it was the perfect combination of salty and sweet. I recommend you try it! Overall, my boyfriend and I agreed that we would come back because it's a good craving killer. I have been here twice now and overall my experiences have been consistent. The first time I came with a large group for birthday party. That experience alone would be a 5 star review. Even though the restaurant was packed, the staff was very accommodating to our group. They were patient when it took us a long time to order and checked in as much as they could while we ate our food. Granted we had such a large order that it took a while to come out, and when it did, there were a few mistakes, but the staff worked to fix it as soon as possible. Even though it seemed like they were a bit short staffed (2-3 people for the whole place), I thought it was a successful outing. Most recently, I brought my mom and family in to celebrate Mother's day. I called in the same day and was able to make a reservation. When we had arrived, I had expected it to be really busy but the place was only about half full. We were seated after a short wait. We put in our order and our food came out really fast. It could probably be that there weren't as many orders in at that time but I was not complaining. We happily ate our foods and left stuffed. The reason I do not give this place 5 stars is because the service can get slow at times and you will need to flag someone down when the place gets busy. Also, the flavor of the food is good but not as amazing as some other places I've been too. The garlic noodles could use more seasoning while the flavor of the seafood is missing something, I just don't know what. Overall, I would come back again. I've gone to Shaking Crab at least four times already and really love ordering Combo One ($26.95) with the original Cajun seasoning. I have tried the garlic butter seasoning, but do not recommend it unless you absolutely love garlic. There was just too much garlic in that bag of seafood. It was as if they drowned the seafood in garlic and just dumped all the other spices. Hence, I continuously chose the Cajun seasoning. The food comes in a see-through plastic bag and once you untie it, you can dig in. Combo One comes with 1.5 lbs of crawfish, 1 lb. of mussels, 2 corns, 2 potatoes, and 2 sausages. Don't expect the corn or sausage to be big because they're actually pretty small. The potatoes, on the other hand, are decent in size - not too big, not too small. The Cajun seasoning just make the mussels and crawfish taste much more delicious than the garlic seasoning. I'm salivating just thinking about it. Moreover, this restaurant lost one star because of the tools used in eating here. Utensils, bibs, cups, gloves, and plates are all disposable, which means less cleaning in the kitchen, but a form of caution when eating here with those things are needed. Utensils, bibs, cups, gloves and plates are very flimsy. The gloves are porous, so when you've finished eating, the oils just seep onto your fingers. Quite messy, but they do offer moist towelettes so you can clean your hands. I would just avoid using the utensils and eat with your hands. Additionally, the servers offer a heaping amount of fresh limes to go with your meal, which is a huge plus in my opinion. Reservations are great to make so you won't have to wait 20 minutes for a table. The restaurant space is small, but it has a good atmosphere. The waitresses here have all been accommodating and quick on their feet, especially when it becomes busy on Friday nights.
