Shannons is a top notch dive bar. From the dollar bills covering the walls and the dark ambiance to the stiff drinks served by local bartenders that always shoot the shit with you and remember your name. NIKKI, BABY, KRIS AND ZACH are all great. Tyson hands down best bar back in the game with the birthday shout outs over the megaphone. Nikki is by far the hottest bartender in LB but the beers are always cold and she always has a great shot to back it up. read more

Decided to ride our bikes on this nice summer day to 2nd street to play some pool and have a drink. My partner ordered a beer and I did not want to drink. I wanted a water since it was so hot. There was only one other person in the bar besides us and the bartender. The bartender says its "policy" that both parties have to order a drink for the bar to make money and to play pool. It's not the bartender's fault that it's "policy" but NO ONE was there. But again I guess at Shannon's ordering a beer isn't enough even though the place was DEAD and we were still going to play several rounds of pool plus you calculate tip. To the owners please do something about this policy. I thought any support of bars by locals during this pandemic would be wonderful. Especially seeing that only one person was there. Imagine sitting at the bar patiently waiting for 15 minutes trying to get the bartender's attention and when you finally do (which an inebriated regular who calls him by name had to flag him down for us) he looks at his watch as if you ran out of time to order and you're bothering him. Well that's exactly what happened to me and my friends. And Jose was quick to let us know he was bothered by the look of disdain on his face and when I called him out about his disrespectful gesture and look of disgust his exact words were "because I'm trying to get out here and go home" Well now my question was answered. Jose didn't care about giving us great service he didn't want to give us service at all because he simply wanted to leave work or hates his job. Which I tell everyone in the service industry or customer service "if you hate your job do us all a favor and quit so someone who enjoys working gets the opportunity" Me being a bartender myself I told Jose you should treat every guest that comes to that door as an opportunity to build rapport and ultimately a reoccurring guest who can potentially help build the growth of the business by word of mouth. It helps your pockets as well being in the service industry it becomes more money for yourself when you have regulars who come in and spend with you. Jose clearly didn't like being called out and his ego let me know that. He became extremely confrontational and aggressive. Not only did he say he doesn't need my money he told me to calm down in an attempt to manipulate the situation to be a victim. I told him I was completely calm and making constructive criticism from a customer's point of view. He then told me "I hear a lot of talking and you running your mouth" then went on to make suggestions of me to shut up. I then was kicked out for zero reason. I guess you could say the reason was me wanting a drink but encountering a rude employee who wanted to get home so he decided he was going to give bad customer service and instead of being apologetic he became extremely disrespectful. As a hardworking adult I choose very wisely where I decide to spend my hard earned money especially in this economy and I like to go to places where I feel welcomed. A quick night out after work trying to snag a couple of drinks and enjoy some time with friends turned into an egomaniac abusing his authority because he didn't like constructive criticism. The smug look on his face as I was being escorted out is enough for me to never want to come back to Shannon's where I frequent both location every so often. Me being a local in Long Beach working near the location downtown and also my daytime office job in Orange County it's been a place I like to suggest to colleagues as a place to get great drinks and usually great service. This only happened a few hours ago but I felt compelled to share my experience because a great day turned sour based off one person's actions. I can say it was nice to see my dollar still posted on the wall which reads "TIME" in the back end the bar. But sadly after this experience I will not be returning as there are others places in the area I can spend my "time" and money with. If I could leave a zero on this place I would! NEVER COMING BACK. I was out celebrating my graduation and I was assaulted and tackled by the three security guards!! They dragged me out of the bar like a corpse for no known reason! I was not asked to leave or even informed that I had done anything wrong to get thrown out. The bartenders were both extremely rude. My friend saw how they carried me out of the bar and asked a bartender to speak to a manager about why they were handling me like that. The bartender refused to help my friend, sarcastically said the owners name was Shannon and, pointed to security to come get her out too! At this point, she was also manhandled and tackled to the ground by these three security guards for simply asking for the manager!!! I'm filing a police report. Also, you can clearly see this man wearing a shirt that says "Shannon's on Bayshore." This is the epitome of what comes to mind when I think of a college bar. It was very dark, very loud, and very packed. There wasn't much of a line at the door to get in when we visited. However, getting to the bar to get a drink did prove to be quite a chore. Once we were able to order, the bartender messed up our order the first time, but it was remade without any issues. After a few drinks we decided it was time to head out. We actually ended up waiting the longest to get our tab. Which was pretty irritating because it was only getting busier. In any case, the drinks were relatively cheap, and if I was in the mood to meet new people in the college aged bracket, I would go back. read more

Location - Prime location on the 2nd St Long Beach area. Parking - Parking can be bad during busy holidays and most parking is paid parking. Venue - Place is a bit smaller than some of the othe places here, but still a decent size and packed on busy weekends. Crowd - Lots of fun people, mixed crowds, a d everyone just here to drink and unwind. Prices - Prices are fair on drinks here. Staff - Chill staff didnt experience any rude ones. Fraud Alert-- I went to Shannon's last week with a group of girlfriends. It was a week night and not very busy. I ordered a round of drinks. The tab came and I provided my card. The female bartender told me the payment didn't go through (which was weird because I had just used the card without issue) and asked for another card. My friend provided hers. Later that week, I checked my bank account and sure enough there was a charge/deduction from Shannon's. I reached out to my friend and she was also charged. I was a bartender and waitresses for many years- as a server you know when a card goes through. I believe this was a deliberate act to make more money on a slow night. Bouncers are there to instigate fights and beat you till you are unconscious, then continue to kick you in the head until you are unable to function. Please please please do not go here!!!! They are going to kill someone and lie about it to the police. I was never asked to leave the bar, rather the bouncer tried to drag me through a window and knocked me unconscious. When I came back he was kneeling over me and repeatedly hitting me in the eye, temple and back of the head. If you are a bouncer and other bar patrons have to pull you off of someone and break up a fight you started, you shouldn't be a bouncer or involved doing this kind of work EVER. Worst part is I tried to leave and he has his other bouncer friends block the door and throw punches at me as I try to. I went to Shannon's today and it was a compete disappointment. This man and his big San Bernard sat right in front of me and the waitress who started petting the dog making all the hair fly all over my food. There was dog hair everywhere and it was disgusting how it was all over my food and my friends food !! I kept trying to make eye contact with her for her to stop or try to move the dog somewhere else away from the customers food but she didn't care. This place is unsanitary and this was unacceptable. Our group of nine ordered from the Italian restaurant and Riley's for food, we where starving. Then the manager showed up, she was extremely rude, she did not introduce her self just came up to us and said this was their spot??? We told her we where waiting for the bar to open, then because we had ordered food from the other two restaurants she said she couldn't serve us. She also gave us two other excuses, even after her waitress said we could stay as long as we ordered drinks. I have never written a negative review but the service was extremely bad, and there was no excuse for this lady to be so unprofessional and rude. read more

I went to this bar with my friend last night and we were just watching people that were playing pool. The security guard came to us and told us to grab those empty glasses behind our feet. I didn't even know there were empty glasses there because we didn't drink them. So, my friend and I refused to take them. Then he started being very rude and called my friend and I motherf***ers I was asking from you guys a favor. I said you didn't sound like you were asking for a favor. Then he said open your fuc*ing ears then. I told him that he can't talk to us like this because we're customers and I wanted to speak with his manager but he pushed me out of the bar. I've never been so disrespected in an establishment in my life. The bouncer is a complete ass. Shoved past my friend in the bar, my friend said "Um excuse you" and the bouncer proceeded to scream at us "excuse me? Excuse me? I work here!" Should have left after that but made the wrong choice to try to get drinks. They had a massive pile of dirty glasses on the bar that was a disaster waiting to happen. The bar back bumped them and like 3 or 4 glasses fell and broke on the floor next to my feet. I told him there was broken glass on the floor and he literally told me he didn't care. My friend told the bartender about the broken glass and she sent the guy to clean it up. While cleaning it up, he whipped a garbage can around and hit me with it. My friend got groped by the bouncer Greg and her ID stolen by the staff. She was taken advantaged of. We insisted for it back. We were first admitted in and then the manager denied us entry because we looked "questionable." Then proceeded to let underage girls in with no ID.
