I came here with my Mami on a Thursday Night... We made reservations for 5:30pm....it was rather quiet with only a few patrons...but the ambiance was wonderful. Everything that had to do with lakes and oceans. The Decor: Model Boats Wall hangings of various fish: Marlin, Salmon, and modern art prints of Lake Erie Perch, and other thematic items. The Music: Classy-Frank Sinatra was playing outside the entryway when we arrived. Various jazz and rat pack music...a classy touch. The Service: The waiter had mastered the menu and was able to describe the tastes of various seafood from its origins...interesting. What We Ordered and Our Thoughts: 1. Caesar Salad-we split it...and they put it in separate bowls which was nice. It was lightly dressed and the croutons were shaved which was an interesting and delicious touch. 2. The New England Lobster Roll-came perfectly piled in a soft roll-with mayonnaise, herbs, celery and bits of lobster. It was served with French Fries and a small side of tangy coleslaw. My only complaint was the the pieces of lobster meat were small bits-my family is from New England and we are used to CHUNKY LARGE pieces of Lobster meat in our rolls. So I was a bit disappointed. 3. Maryland Style- 2, 4-ounce crabcakes. While it was good-it did not have that crabcake texture with the crab. It was molded into two small lumps. Shaw's has been around for quite some time in Chicago...and I'd consider a solid place for seafood and the such. This time, we dined at the lunch hour. The lobster bisque was a good rich tasting bisque. We however thought the chowder was even better. Depending on your mood - you won't be disappointed with either soup. The wedge salad was a what you'd expect and was pretty good. Fish and chips entree had a good batter...clean tasting fish....all made for a good choice for lunch. Went here last night for my son's 30th birthday. Had a party of 9 and was pleasantly surprised to be welcomed to a private dining room. Chris was our server and he did a fantastic job serving our party. We had the cold seafood tower with extra oysters on the half shell. All was amazingly fresh and good. Entrees ranged from whole main lobster, surf and turf, scallops, sushi and halibut. Being from Cali we know what fresh seafood tastes like and this food was superb! We had reservations for Shaw's on a Monday evening. Initially we had a later reservation, but on the day before, we decided to move it up since our timing had changed. Out of all the tables that were available, we were seated all the way in the back corner, right by the waiter's station. It was awkward and uncomfortable, but oh well. Our server was great. I can't remember her name, but I do remember that she said she moved to Chicago in 2019 from St. Louis. She was very very friendly and attentive. We had a mishap where they threw away my entire receipt including the merchant's copy, but she was very polite about it. We had a taste of each oyster on the menu. I enjoyed the oysters, but the first 3 on the menu were probably my favorite. They were also rather larger. For my dinner I ordered the Surf and Surf which came with the king crab legs and a lobster tail. I appreciate that they crack the crab legs for you. The king crab legs tasted great. It came with a side of melted butter. The lobster tail, however, wasn't that great. I didn't even finish it because it was overcooked for me. It was mushy. I didn't like it at all, so i was really disappointed about that. We ordered the brussel sprouts and wild mushrooms to share with the table. Both were good. The wild mushrooms were very good, so I highly recommend this side if you're a fan of mushrooms. All in all, it was an okay dinner. Shaw's treated my wife and I very well. The service is top notch and quick. The clam chowder was very tasty and the Caesar salad was slightly elevated from your typical version. The filet and scallops were perfectly cooked. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her pasta dish. They also gave her a big slice of chocolate cake for free as we celebrated her birthday there. First, the restaurant is simply beautiful. With the architecture and Art Deco decor I felt like I was an extra on the set of Stephen King's movie The Shining. Except, the voices I heard kept saying, "Eat. More. Shrimp." and "Have. Another. Drink." It's not often we do fine dining, so we were a little thrown off by the formality of it all. But, as we fumbled through the ordering sequence it just became laughable. Things got a little more comfortable when our server realized we really weren't there for all the pomp and circumstance and we just wanted to eat and have some drinks. The food was really good. Probably the best buffalo shrimp I've ever had. I just wish the lighting could have been better for the pictures. Towards the end of the meal, our server saw me eat the garnish off my plate which caused him to give me a strange look. When he came over to pick up the check I told him, "This meal cost more than our plane tickets to visit Chicago. You damn right I'm going to eat EVERYTHING I paid for." pretty good spot to have business lunch, it's relatively quiet and has a few private rooms with about 10 people capacity each. It is also not too busy on weekdays, so you can book it last minute if it's a work function. They also have a bar area that is pretty loud. The food is pretty good, I liked the seafood tower, the crabs and the lobsters are pretty fresh, and not very messy to eat as they already help you pre-crack the claws the halibut is really good, the meat is very tender. Had a fantastic dinner here last month. My friend and I both had the lobster bisque and then she had the scallops while I had the halibut. My fish was cooked perfectly with a crispy crust and buttery interior. For dessert we had apple pie a la mode, the portion was humongous but it was a perfect dessert! We chose the dining room and wow the service was so personalized and thoughtful: loved chatting about mini tabasco bottles and getting beer pairing recommendations! Weekend Brunch Buffet! I've been here a handful of times for dinner, but I'll say that I'm most impressed by their Sunday Brunch Buffet which I finally had the chance to try. As of 12/2/18, price for the brunch buffet is $65 and goes down on Saturday and Sundays from 10am-2pm. While steep in price, I think it's justifiable due to quality selection of items. Between the Chef's table featuring fresh carved beef tenderloin, steamed king crab legs, seafood gumbo, and lobster bisque soup and the cold seafood bar with unlimited oyster on the half shell, you'll easily hit your money's worth. In addition, there's also a build your own omelet bar and plenty of brunch favorites from eggs benedicts to lobster mac and cheese to french toast to waffles to fried chicken. Just about something for everyone. I'll go ahead and say it, easily one of the best quality brunches you'll find in downtown Chicago. Adult beverages will run ya at $10 a pop (mimosas, bloodys, etc.). Their buffet price also includes fresh squeezed juices and coffee at no additional cost. And if you have a sweet tooth at the end of it, their dessert bar doesn't disappoint. The creme brule and chocolate covered strawberries I tried were excellent! I admit it--I'm a super #basicbitch. I don't know what it is about brunch but I. Have. Got. To. Have. It!!! And Shaw's definitely has it. I've visited both their Schaumburg and Chicago locations and while the Schaumburg location has parking as endless as the sea of seafood they carry, I've only had brunch at the Chicago location since it has more variety (I believe this has recently changed, however, as I saw something that said Schaumburg has started serving Alaskan king crab legs and beef tenderloin again). The beginning of the buffet is where you'll find desserts like chocolate dipped strawberries, biscotti, coffee cakes, cheesecake...I could go on and on WHAT THERE'S COTTON CANDY?! It's kind of embarrassing when Auntie Vanni is fighting with her niece and nephew over who gets the last cotton candy. Pro tip: they replenish them so no need to fear. In addition to desserts, you can find eggs benedict, crab cakes, au gratin potatoes, breakfast sausage, bacon, fried chicken, etc. Behind the wall is where the magic happens: acquaint yourself with the person standing in front of the station with lobster bisque, KING CRAB LEGS, and beef tenderloin. Don't forget the oysters on the half shell, shrimp, ceviche, and other cold seafood items. There are also salads here, but #realtalk: did you come to Shaw's brunch buffet for salad? I think not. Finally, there's also a waffle and omelette station. My niece and nephew love the waffles. I'm too busy making the Gatekeeper (of crab/tenderloin) my new bff so I can't really speak about the quality of anything with carbs there. Except for the cotton candy. Strands and strands of delicate sugar spun around a paper cone. The concept is so simple yet it manages to evoke an Ego ratatouille-esque moment out of me. *Sigh* All in all, definitely the best seafood buffet I've ever been to in Chicago (if you know of better ones, PLEASE DM me). Service ranges from 8-10/10 with the last visit being a 10. Our servers would hear us talking about how we wished there was this condiment or that drink and it would magically appear in front of us. What more can you ask for? Shaw's, oh sweet, Shaw's. Its bountiful platters of seafood are prancing around in my head right now. I can't wait to revisit and make more seafood dreams come true. P.S. So I am not a seafood person. I went to Shaw's for a work dinner and it was good. I had a fantastic chopped salad and the sushi my co-workers had looked good and they liked it. I had the twin filet with Bernaise sauce, which is one of my favorite things on earth. The Bernaise was phenomenal, but there was a small portion of it on the side. The filets were great cuts of meat and perfectly cooked. They have a nice wine selection and a great selection of bubbly. My favorite part - since I am not a seafood fan and this is in fact a seafood restaurant - it didn't smell fishy inside! This is a huge plus and was greatly appreciated. read more

Ordered the hot appetizer tower that included among other things, grilled lobster tail. Fantastic! Highest quality seafood, expertly prepared and delicious. Moved on from there to a couple sushi rolls, and they blew my mind. Ordered a California roll, a staple, but the difference is Shaw's uses KING CRAB. It simply tasted of the sea with a richness that Krab will never be able to emulate. Also had a tuna roll with some of the freshest yellowtail slices on top I've had. The shellfish was top notch, but the sushi was really over the top. It's a must to order at least one roll whenever you stop in. The bar staff was excellent and had no problem accommodating our special requests and substitutions. Is a $200 lunch a bit of a splurge? Of course. We decided to try this restaurant for our anniversary and it was a wonderful experience. Our server was attentive and they do provide heat lamps while dinner is served outside. The ambiance is different as we are seated outside next to traffic while under the bridge with passing cars but nonetheless, the food definitely made up for it. People love this place. I was not a fan. The seating especially in the booths is incredibly cramped. I felt like the other people I was at dinner with were on top of me and this was summer without all the coats, hats and layers. If you're trying to get more than 3-4 people in good luck. The food was a disappointment. The bread before hand was some of the best ever. The salad was not great. The lettuce felt like it was 2-3 days past due, it was more like something you'd see at a chillis, residence inn or strip mall pizza takeout. The portions did not match what you'd expect for a legendary place and big night out. I was incredibly underwhelmed. If you want a brand/scene/ambiance/history and to say you did it good for you, but dark, cramped spaces and food that you really ask yourself is this the best they can do in 2024 doesn't make it worth it for me. read more
